SHOOTING AT SOUTHERN TILLERSON FACES TOUGH ROOF PLEADS GUILTY TO TALKS IN MOSCOW CALIFORNIA SCHOOL STATE MURDER CHARGES

1

At least two adults were killed and two other persons, possibly students, were struck by gunfire in a classroom shooting at a Southern California elementary school, police and fire officials said. San Bernardino Police Chief Jarrod Burguan said the shooting at Northpark Elementary School in San Bernardino, about 65 miles east of Los Angeles, appeared to a “murder-suicide,” but details were sketchy. “Two adults are deceased

in a classroom,” the chief said in a Twitter post, adding, “There are two wounded, possible students,” who were taken to hospitals. He said their conditions were not immediately known. “We believe the suspect is down, and there’s no further threat,” Burguan said. Authorities did not immediately furnish additional details about the circumstances surrounding the shooting, or the identity and motive of the shooter. REUTERS

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson’s visit to Moscow this week will be an early test of whether the Trump administration can use any momentum generated by a missile attack on a Syrian air base to craft and execute a strategy to end the Syrian war. Even before Trump ordered last week’s strike in retaliation for a nerve gas attack, Tillerson’s visit was certain to be dominated by

thorny issues, including Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. election, an apparent violation of an important arms control treaty, and seeing what cooperation, if any, is possible in the fight against Islamic State. Now, Tillerson, a former oil executive with no diplomatic experience, is charged with avoiding a major U.S. confrontation with Russia while exacting some concessions from Moscow. REUTERS

The white supremacist sentenced to death in federal court for the 2015 shooting massacre at a historic black church in South Carolina pleaded guilty to separate state murder charges. Dylann Roof, 23, was charged in state court with murdering nine African-American parishioners as they closed their eyes in prayer at a Bible study session. Roof agreed to plead guilty in state court under a deal with prosecutors after

being convicted of 33 federal crimes, including hate crimes and obstruction of religion resulting in death. In January, a jury found he deserved the death penalty. Pleading guilty to the state charges allows for Roof’s transfer to death row and spares survivors and relatives of the victims a second round of testimony. REUTERS

ILLINOIS JUDGE FATALLY SHOT OUTSIDE HOME

An Illinois judge was shot and killed outside his Chicago home on Monday and a woman was injured in the incident, police said. Raymond Myles, 66, was found shot multiple times by police responding to a report of gunfire at the address on the city’s South Side, according to the Chicago Police Department. Myles was an associate judge in Cook County Circuit Court’s Criminal Division, according to the court’s

website. Cook County includes Chicago, the third-largest city in the United States. The incident started when a woman exited the home and encountered a man with a gun, Chief of Detectives Melissa Staples said at a news conference. Words were exchanged by the two before the man fired, hitting the woman once. Hearing the gunshots, Myles exited the residence to investigate and was fatally shot multiple times. REUTERS

Eyes off that phone: New app rewards distraction-free driving The Mojo, created by Boston startup TrueMotion, lets a driver win points and possibly prizes for keeping hands on the wheel and off the phone.

“Distracted driving has that unfortunate psychological loop.”

kristin.toussaint@metro.us

Have you ever looked at your phone while driving? For an overwhelming majority of people, the answer is yes. That kind of distracted driving contributed to 3,400 deaths on the road and nearly 400,000 injuries, according to a 2015 report by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Whether it is talking or texting on the phone, scrolling through the news or adjusting a map navigator, few people can avoid the dangerous but tempting proposition while hurtling down the open road. But what if there was an app that rewarded drivers for staying off their mobile devices? That’s the concept behind Mojo, a smartphone application developed by TrueMotion, a Boston-based startup. The app awards drivers virtual points, which can turn into actual gifts for “distractionfree” driving. Rafi Finegold, vice president of product

Rafi Finegold

PROVIDED

at TrueMotion, thinks the app provides a fun incentive for drivers to put the phone down. He acknowledges that it’s no easy task. “Distracted driving has that unfortunate psychological loop,” he said. “You do it a few times and get away with

it, so it provides a kind of reinforcement, ‘I did it that time and here I am, I’ll do it again.’” Using technology to curb distracted driving isn’t new, and even some insurance companies have separate devices to track a driver’s habits. Some apps on

it won’t track speeding or sudden braking. Once downloaded for free, Mojo can run in the background, detecting movements and identifying patterns. After the app automatically recognizes when the user is driving a vehicle, it collects data on how often that person interacts with the phone while driving. At the end of the trip, Mojo awards a score. Each minute of distraction-free driving counts as 1 point. When a driver collects 300 points, he or she can spin a virtual “prize wheel” for a chance to win. For now, TrueMotion is offering $5 Amazon gift cards. The startup is hoping to partner with other companies for more potential prize options.

GETTY IMAGES

Apps won’t eliminate distracted driving A report issued in 2015 found that 70 percent of drivers used their phones while behind the wheel, but a recent survey by TrueMotion put that figure at more like an eye-popping 99 percent. When using Mojo, the company claims a 20 percent reduction in the number of people who grabbed for their phone while behind the wheel. Clearly, that still leaves roughly 80 percent of people on the phone, even with the Mojo. The problem is not going away overnight, TrueMontion’s Rafi Finegold acknowledged. While he said “people tend to shut down in the face” of negative and fear-based conversations about distracted driving, TrueMotion employs the opposite method. “Instead of docking you points, we’re trying to give you points for distraction-free driv-

ing.” That way it creates “more of a positive energy around it, rather than a fear based or negative approach.”

Other distracted driving apps In October, the City of Boston debuted an app to find the “safest driver,” which tracked when someone was distracted by their phone, along with factors like rapid acceleration, harsh braking and sharp turns. That app also gave you a score and had a leaderboard, along with the options to win prizes, but it proved cumbersome because a person had to manually start the app before each trip. Other apps like LifeSaver and AT&T Drive Mode attempt to curb distracted driving by blocking incoming texts or calls for the duration of your trip. KRISTIN TOUSSAINT

Bikers feel brotherhood in nation’s oldest gay motorcycle organization Empire City Motorcycle Club was founded in 1964 by 12 bikers. JOSEPH JAAFARI @MetroNewYork letters@metro.us

Outside the LGBT Center in Chelsea, a smattering of parked motorcycles line the street. Inside, their owners call a meeting to order, per Robert’s Rules of Order. Roll call. Executive news. Member news. New business. The formality seems a bit out of place considering the group of men here are bikers. But this isn’t the typical biker club. This is the Empire City Motorcycle Club, the nation’s oldest gay motorcycle club. The club’s mission is virtually identical to

any other biker club: to provide a brotherhood for men who just want to ride their Harleys, BMWs and Triumphs. These men just happen to be gay. “When people see this back patch, they know exactly who we are. They know what we stand for,” said Chaz Antonelli, club president, referencing the massive blue and orange Mars symbol patch stitched into the back of their leather waistcoats. “We’re a brotherhood. A family.” There was a time when gay motorcycle clubs were seen as protectors of the gay community, offering security outside of bars, for example. That mindset has changed as the number of gay bars in the city has dwindled and the need for protection has all but been

JOSEPH JAAFARI

eliminated with a more progressive police force like the NYPD, which even has its own LGBT unit. “Stonewall and the gay movement was re-

ally pushed by drag queens, and the only place to meet were gay bars. For those that were more closeted, these motorcycle clubs provided a safe and in-

conspicuous meeting space,” said Mark Wind, who joined Empire City in the mid-1970s and has been a member longer than any of his fellow bikers.

The club operates as a nonprofit group, doing charity work and raising money for the leather community while also maintaining a biker bond of brotherhood. “This group provides a family, especially for those of us that don’t have a family,” said Mike Matles, 67, whose been with Empire City for nearly four years. “Sometimes even your blood family won’t even help out. These guys will.” For some of the new recruits, the club reaffirms their feeling that being gay doesn’t have to be a stereotype. “When people think of bikers they don’t necessarily think gay, and when they think gay they don’t necessarily think bikers,” said Loki, the newest brother of the group. “But here we are.”

An achievement for advocates of free tuition at public New York colleges has disappointed some, including undocumented immigrants, part-time students and experts concerned about how public and private universities will accommodate a new dynamic in admissions and financial aid. On Monday, Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s Excelsior Scholarship, a firstin-the-nation program that provides free tuition to full-time college students whose families earn up to $125,000 a year, passed the state budget vote and will be phased in as early as fall of 2017. “This budget ensures that our young people will have a full and equal opportunity to compete for high-paying jobs, without having to incur a mountain of debt in the process,” Cuomo wrote in an op-ed in the Daily News. Although Cuomo had originally tried to include undocumented immigrants in the legislation, the program that passed the vote requires eligible students to be U.S. citizens, a permanent resident or have refugee status. “His decision is mystifying and puts the lie to the governor’s professed support for the New York State Dream Act,” the New York Immigration Coalition’s executive director Steve Choi said in a statement Monday. Students who cannot

attend college full time also feel slighted. “As a mother of two, I have attended two CUNY schools, BMCC and CCNY, part time while working full time,” said Rosa Valiente, who is currently attending CUNY School of Law. “I would have greatly benefited from the tuition-free program, as I’m sure many other nontraditional students would.” Bart Astor, author of “Graduate from College Debt Free,” said that while this is an excellent step for affordable higher education, there could be many downsides, including the possibility of overcrowding at public colleges, shifts in admissions standards and an income threshold that might be punitive to the wrong people. “Are you going to have to have a 4.0 grade point to get in?” Astor wondered. “We are already subsidizing wealthy people with very low public school tuition,” Astor said, referring to the $3,500 to $6,700 annual tuition at New York’s public colleges. “How will people feel about their tax dollars potentially going to the wealthy?” He also wonders how the income eligibility will pan out. “Thresholds are by definition pretty unfair,” he said. “If I make $99,999 I will qualify, but if I make $100,000 plus one, I won’t.” He said his concern is that people might be able to show an eligible income and still have sizable assets, or hide income in a private business, while someone with a set salary and no deductions might be disqualified for slightly exceeding the limit.

Study: Librarians asked to pull Cosby books after sex assault charges The book is based on Cosby’s childhood. Bill Cosby’s “Little Bill” children’s book series landed on a list of the 10 books Americans most often asked librarians to remove from shelves last year after he faced sex assault charges, according to a ranking released on Monday. The popular series written by Cosby and illustrated by Varnette Honeywood made its debut in ninth place on the American Library Association’s (ALA) annual list of the books that are most often challenged in libraries. “This children’s book series was challenged because of criminal sexual allegations against the author,” the nation’s oldest library organization said on its website. More than 50 women have accused Cosby of sexual assault in a series of alleged attacks dating back to the 1960s. Most of the claims are too old to be the subject of criminal prosecution, but Cosby, 79, is due to go on trial in June for charges made in Pennsylvania.

The “Little Bill” series was the subject of some of the 323 challenges to books reported to the ALA’s Office for Intellectual Freedom. The once-heralded children’s series includes three titles selected by Oprah Winfrey for her influential book club, including “The Meanest Thing to Say,” “The Treasure Hunt” and “The Best Way to Play.” The most challenged book for 2016 was “This One Summer,” a young adult graphic novel written by Mariko Tamaki and illustrated by Jillian Tamaki. It won two prestigious prizes — a Printz and a Caldecott Honor Award — but was banned from some library shelves because of lesbian, bisexual, gay or transgender characters, profanity and was considered sexually explicit, the ALA said. Another Cosby book, his autobiography “Childhood,” is the subject of a court battle in his case, with prosecutors seeking to introduce as evidence excerpts which they say show his willingness to use intoxicants to incapacitate women before assaulting them. Baby Boomers May Avoid Knee Surgery With Modern Arthritis Treatments Doctors say these two factors are the keys to knee arthritis treatment success and relieving pain without surgery By Matt Edgar America’s Health Writer New York City - Everyone has said it at one time or another. If I had only known about “this” sooner - things would be very different today. That’s what many knee arthritis pain sufferers are saying about this technology and treatment. “We all know that countless lives are being saved every year because of early detection and better treatment ” noted the clinic director at the NY Pain MD in New York City. “The same holds true for treating arthritis pain. The director believes one of the most important factors for the success of viscosupplementation is making sure you are getting it into the joint space precisely. That’s why the doctors at NY Pain MD use advanced imaging technology to apply Precision Arthritis Targeting during every treatment. Knee Pain Screenings Offered To Help Determine If New York Metro Area Residents Qualify For Popular Treatment Knee pain sufferers have limited time to claim knee pain screening to see if all-natural knee arthritis treatment might work for them If you qualify for this treatment, it might be one of the happiest days of your life. That’s because, for the past year and a half, hundreds NY Pain MD of knee pain sufferers have New York City. That’s when their specially trained-doctors added Hyalgan treatments to their already successful comprehensive knee pain relief program. Viscosupplementation is unique because - eventhough it is manufactured by a pharmaceutical company, it is NOT considered a drug because it is a natural substance with an incredible story.

Why So Many Want It You see, when you suffer with arthritis - the lubricatThis means instead of gliding smoothly - your bones start to rub and grind against each other. This causes a little pain in the beginning - but over time the pain steadily gets worse until it is excruciating.

Like “Joint Oil” Viscosupplementation works so well because it is like ‘joint oil.” It is a natural substance that contains one of the natural building blocks of the synovial fluid that lubricates your knee. Scientists and researchers discovered this natural building block to synovial fluid in the rooster’s comb - that big red thing on top of the roosters head. It is extracted from the roosters comb, purified and concentrated. They have also developed medical lubricants that are also natural but made a bit like yogurt and "cultured" into highly effective arthritis pain-fighting medical lubricants. When introduced directly into your knee joint, it is like squirting oil on a rusty door hinge. Viscosupplementation allows your joints to glide more smoothly eliminating a lot of the rubbing, grinding and pain.

Can Supplements Do The Same Thing? No. Glucosamine and chondroitin and other supplements are much different. You can only get this from a doctor and it often helps knee pain sufferers who got limited or no success from glucosamine and chondroitin. Beware of unsubstantiated claims made by supplements to do what this advanced medical procedure does.

Why You Should Try This Even If You’ve Already Had Similar Treatments Without Results... “We have been able to help so many knee pain sufferers - even many who have already tried other treatments like Synvisc, Supartz, Orthovisc and even Hyalgan. This is because our treating doctors always use “Precision Arthritis Targeting Technology”. This allows us to place the Viscosupplementation exactly where is needs to be. Studies show doctors doing joint injections without technology can miss the joint up to 30% of the time.” noted the Director of Center NY Pain MD is a state of the art medical facility offering only the best technology.

Advanced Medical Technology Can Make All The Difference: T Ňuorososcopic imaging allows doctors to see directly into the knee joint so supposed to. Studies show that procedures done without this technology can miss the joint up to 30% of This is one reason NY Pain MD uses this P.A.T. Imaging Technology. with each and every treatment. And that’s not all “Every case is individual. Some patients get quite a bit of relief right away - others take a little more time. But most have been extremely happy. We’ve noted results lasting no less than 6 months for many but up to 2 years for some patients.. Patients who were suffering for years with bad knee pain are getting their lives back... going for walks again and exercising. It’s amazing to see. They tell all their friends - that’s why we are swarmed. After getting treatment and feeling better, many patients have decided to cancel their total knee replacement surgeries.” added the director.

3-D printed titanium to shave millions in Boeing Dreamliner costs Boeing Co. hired Norsk Titanium AS to print the first structural titanium parts for its 787 Dreamliner, the Norwegian 3-D printing company said on Monday, paving the way to a cost savings of $2 million to $3 million for each plane. The contract is a major step in Boeing’s effort to cut the cost of its barely profitable 787 and a sign of growing industrial acceptance of the durability of 3-D printed metal parts, allowing them to replace pieces made with more expensive traditional manufacturing in demanding aerospace applications. Strong, lightweight titanium alloy is seven times more costly than aluminum, and accounts for about $17 million of the cost of a $265 million Dreamliner, industry.

GETTY IMAGES

Boeing has been trying to reduce titanium costs on the 787, which requires more of the metal than other models because of its carbon-fiber composite fuselage and wings. Titanium also is used extensively on Airbus Group SE’s rival A350 jet. “This means $2 million to $3 million in savings for each Dreamliner, at least,” starting in 2018 when many more parts are being printed, Chip Yates, Norsk Titanium’s vice president of marketing, said in an interview. Boeing declined to

comment on the estimate but said Norsk’s technology would help reduce costs. The aircraft maker in February said it had hired privately held Oxford Performance Materials to print plastic parts for its Starliner spacecraft. Norsk worked with Boeing for more than a year to design four 787 parts and obtain Federal Aviation Administration certification for them, Yates said. Norsk expects the U.S. regulatory agency will approve the material properties and production process for the parts later this year, which would “open up the floodgates” and allow Norsk to print thousands of different parts for each Dreamliner, without each part requiring separate FAA approval, Yates said. Trump’s pick Gorsuch sworn in, restoring top court’s conservative tilt Donald Trump reveled in the biggest political victory of his presidency at a White House ceremony on Monday in which his Supreme Court pick Neil Gorsuch was sworn in, poised to make an instant impact on a court once again dominated by conservatives. Trump was able to fulfill a top campaign promise when the Republican-led Senate voted to confirm the conservative Colorado-based federal appeals court judge to the lifetime job on Friday despite vehement Democratic opposition. With Gorsuch aboard, the court has five conservative justices and four liberals, a majority that could be pivotal in deciding a range of issues including abortion, gun control, the death

penalty, presidential powers, political spending, environmental regulation and religious rights. Standing in the White House Rose Garden under bright sunshine on a warm spring day, Trump tied the occasion to the political aims of his administration, as the eight other members of the nation’s highest court looked on. “Together we are in a process of reviewing and renewing and also rebuilding our country,”

“He will decide cases not based on his personal preferences but based on a fair and objective reading of the law.” Trump Trump told an audience that included conservative activists and administration officials. “A new optimism is sweeping across our land and a new faith in America is filling our hearts and lifting our sights.” Gorsuch filled a vacancy that had lingered for nearly 14 months after conservative Justice Antonin Scalia’s February 2016 death. Symantec attributes 40 cyber attacks to CIA-linked hacking tools Past cyber attacks on scores of organizations around the world were conducted with top-secret hacking tools that were exposed recently by the web publisher Wikileaks, the security researcher Symantec Corp. said. That means the attacks were likely conducted by the Central Intelligence Agency. The files posted by WikiLeaks appear to show internal CIA discussions of various tools for hacking into phones, computers and other electronic gear, along with programming code for some of them, and multiple people familiar with the matter have told Reuters that the documents came from the CIA or its contractors. Symantec said it had connected at least 40 attacks in 16 countries

to the tools obtained by WikiLeaks, though it followed company policy by not formally blaming the CIA. The CIA has not confirmed the Wikileaks documents are genuine. But agency spokeswoman Heather Fritz Horniak said that any WikiLeaks disclosures aimed at damaging the intelligence community “not only jeopardize U.S. personnel and operations, but also equip our adversaries with tools and information to do us harm. â€œIt is important to note that CIA is legally prohibited from conducting electronic surveillance targeting individuals here at home, including our fellow Americans, and CIA does not do so,â€? Horniak said. She declined to comment on the specifics of

Symantec’s research. The CIA tools described by Wikileaks do not involve mass surveillance, and all of the targets were government entities or had legitimate national security value for other reasons, Symantec researcher Eric Chien said ahead of Monday’s publication. In part because some of the targets are U.S. allies in Europe, “there are organizations in there that people would be surprised were targets,â€? Chien said. Symantec said sectors targeted by operations employing the tools included financial, telecommunications, energy, aerospace, information technology, education and natural resources. Besides Europe, countries were hit in the Middle East, Asia and Africa. One computer was infected in the United States in what was likely an accident — the infection was removed within hours. All the programs were used to open back doors, collect and remove copies of files, rather than to destroy anything. REUTERS

Is Brad Pitt dating Sienna Miller now? As you know, Brad Pitt has recently returned to his peak form. Maybe he’s working out his recent deluge of post-divorce emotions through intense cardio! And now? He might be flirting intensely with Sienna Miller — when he’s not overcome with intense melancholy about the dissolution of his marriage. Fun! Page Six reports that the almost-divorced 53-year-old was doing some “serious flirting” with Miller, 35, during a private dinner for “The Lost City of Z.” Miller stars in the film, and Pitt is a producer. Spies — I’m picturing

some characters dressed in the finest World War II-era garb — claim the pair were heavily enjoying each other’s company, and were talking to each other all night. Sounds like pretty standard behavior, but OK! Miller shot down rumors in 2015 that she was flirting with the then-married Pitt, saying, “You know, he’s the producer of the film and I’ve met him twice. It’s insane.” Maybe third time’s the charm, eh? But like, probably not. Brad Pitt is way too sad right now to be flirting with young starlets all willy-nilly.

Ryan Phillippe wouldn’t deign to date Katy Perry Ryan Phillippe is insulted that you think he would ever consider dating Katy Perry. The outrage! Phillippe —a hot dad who occasionally dabbles in acting — took to Twitter to shoot down rumors that he’s been seeing the “Chained to the Rhythm” singer. “I AM NOT DATING KATY PERRY,” he wrote. I love a man who can only express blinding frustration through

the artistry of all caps. “BARELY KNOW HER. PLEASE STOP FLYING HELICOPTERS OVER MY HOUSE. SHE IS NOT HERE. thx” That’s right: In Hollywood, if you flirt with a pop star at Elton John’s 70th birthday party, paparazzi will harass you and fly helicopters around your house, waiting for that special moment when a woman — perhaps a Katy Perry — walks out of your home after a night of making sweet, sweet love.

Mariah Carey dumps rebound beau, is over it Mariah Carey and her beau, Bryan Tanaka, have called it quits after five months. Considering it was very clearly a rebound relationship, it lasted for quite a long time. The pop diva was linked to Tanaka after her messy AF split from fiancé James Packer. Tanaka, 33, spent a great deal of time telling everyone that the pair was destined to be. I bet he feels great about that now. According to TMZ, Tanaka was essentially a gold digger brimming with jealousy. Gold digger? Probably. I don’t know why he would feel jealous, but I guess Carey’s people gotta spin it somehow. “Bryan

had unbridled fury over Mariah’s relationship with ex-hubby Nick Cannon…. They vacation as a family and go to dinner and parties together, sometimes without the kids. We’re told it drove Bryan insane,” a source told the site. Oh, and Carey got tired of footing the bills for Tanaka’s expensive taste, which she really should have expected. He’s a backup dancer, she’s the third-bestselling female artist in the United States. While TMZ’s source says Carey worried Tanaka’s endgame was fame — yeah, could have told you that, too — I’d say they both got something out of this not at all fake relationship, no?

Seeing the modern world reflected back at them from 100 years ago was a sobering realization for the curators of “Posters and Patriotism.” The new exhibit now open at the Museum of the City of New York features over 60 propaganda posters created to bolster public support for America’s entry into World War I on April 6, 1917. the exhibit veers into the uglier tactics used to drum up public sympathy for the war: vilifying Germans. For a nation of immigrants, it’s ironic that newcomers have never been particularly popular. But the fear and persecution that these this posters inspired was different — just as being Muslim is equated with being a terrorist now by much of the far right — to be German was to be untr ust wor thy and liable to cause trouble in the U.S. The posters depict Germans as apes and bloodthirsty Huns; German residents certainly bristled at the poster of combat boots with a silhouette of Germany on them standing above the words “Keep These Off the USA ; a dead woman and child at the bottom of the ocean evoke the Lusitania, the

MAKE HEALTHY YOUR NEW HAPPY $80 a month It’s hard not to love Madonna’s bubbly former trainer Nicole Winhoffer. She’s upbeat, loves to whip her hair, and clearly loves to move her body. Winhoffer follows in the footsteps of Anderson (who also trained Madonna), posting nonedited videos filmed directly in-studio as she teaches her sweaty classes. As for the class itself, it’s part toning, part dancecardio. A new hourlong workout is posted every Sunday.

Keep up your exercise routine without leaving the house. SHARON FEIEREISEN @MetroNewYork letters@metro.us

Welcome to the world of online fitness. Whether you’re new to working out or you’re just too busy to make time to attend classes IRL, there are now a number of ways to sweat it out with some of the biggest names in the fitness industry, without even having to leave your apartment. With summer around the corner, there’s no better time to check out one of these accessible options, which will save you time, money and make it harder to find excuses to skip out on exercise.

Tracy Anderson $90 a month or $475 for six months

Anderson was one of the first to enter this space, and the first to do it in a raw, unfiltered way (there’s literally just a camera set up in her studio filming her Master Class). A new Anderson-led workout is uploaded every Wednesday — replacing the prior week’s — and includes her signature arm and floor movements as well as a separate dance cardio workout. The cost is a bit steep, but remember that Anderson’s studio membership is $900/ month with a $1,500 initiation fee.

AKT also offers live private training, nutrition sessions, program consultations, and a 10day workout calendar.

Physique57 $30 a month If you’re looking for a barre or Pilates-inspired workout, check out Physique57’s streaming options. They have more than 40 videos from 10 minutes to an hour each and cover strength training, cardio, and restorative workouts. If you have a specific goal in mind, you’ll also be able to pick from two to 12-week workout plans. Unlike Physique57’s in-studio classes, these can be done without equipment.

Peloton $1,995 for the bike and $39 a month for streaming Peloton is more of a commitment than the other streaming options because it requires purchasing a bike (though the one-time investment pales in comparison to the cost of regular SoulCycle or Flywheel classes). Use the at-home bike to ride along with live in-studio classes or a spinning workout from its on-demand library. Riders benefit from the bike’s real-time performance tracking — and from instructors giving real time shout-outs.

DanceBody $12.99 a week, 34.99 a month, or $419.88 a year The growing library, with new workouts added each month, includes dance-inspired sweat sessions ranging from 10 to 90 minutes. While not mandatory, DanceBody’s specifically designed equipment like the Hex Mat and Dance Bands do come in handy for the floor work and dance cardio portions.

GEORGETOWN JOB WELL-DESERVED FOR EX-KNICK PATRICK EWING OPINION

MARC MALUSIS @marcmalusis

When I first became enamored with college basketball, I was a huge Georgetown Hoyas fan. I loved their frenetic style, the intimidation they brought to the floor and the presence and confidence they played with under John Thompson Jr. No player exemplified Georgetown basketball during that era more than Patrick Ewing. Ewing was a looming presence at the center position who owned the interior while getting in the heads of his opponents with blocked shots and sheer presence. He was the one

that helped define Hoya Paranoia. Ewing was introduced last Wednesday as the next head coach of Georgetown with his former coach, Thompson, in attendance. He replaces Thompson’s son, who was fired after 13 seasons. During his news conference, Ewing said that Georgetown was the only college job that he would take and I believe him. After all, it is his alma mater and Ewing helped shape the identity of Georgetown just as much as the school helped shape him as a young man. Will Ewing be successful? Nobody can say for certain. One thing I do know is that he does deserve the opportunity that was afforded to him. When a program

decides to turn to a former great player to try and bring about change, success and old glory, it certainly grabs the headlines. At Ewing’s news conference, T-shirts were handed out that read “Home Sw33t Home.” But this is not about winning the news conference; it is about winning basketball games. For Ewing, he has certainly paid his dues. He has been an assistant in the NBA for 14 seasons and he worked to understand the intricacies of being a head coach after working under Steve Clifford and Jeff Van Gundy. He also was bound to pick up some coaching tips from some of the men he called coach, whether it was Van Gundy, Pat Riley or Hubie Brown.

Ewing was not the first choice for Georgetown. Reportedly, Xavier’s Chris Mack and Harvard’s Tommy Amaker were a couple of coaches that did not show much interest in the vacancy. Just because Ewing was not the first choice does not mean he will not turn out to be the right one. Ewing is the greatest player in Georgetown history. He was a three-time All-American and helped propel the Hoyas to a national championship in 1985. He was looking for an opportunity to lead a team from the bench and his alma mater has provided just that. He deserved and earned the opportunity that was afforded to him. Certainly the college game is different than the pro game. Coaching

Patrick Ewing takes questions at his introductory news conference. GETTY IMAGES

and recruiting young basketball players can be a grind, but as long as he goes into this challenge completely aware of all the responsibilities now on his shoulders, then he is ahead of the game. Will he bring about a revival of Georgetown

basketball? As a longtime Knicks fan and Georgetown fan growing up, I am certainly rooting for him. I think it is great for the Big East, who is still searching for a national identity. It is great for Georgetown and it is great for Ewing.

Aries Take pride in everything you do. Pay attention to detail and be consistent. You have plenty to gain if you are confident and informative. Avoid bad influences.

Libra Information you receive will spark you to make a sudden change in the way you deal with others and how you view yourself and the things you stand for.

Taurus Take on the role of instigator and get everyone around you fired up about something you want to see happen. Your enthusiasm will be contagious.

Scorpio An emotional plea will help you sort out differences you have with someone. Expressing your thoughts will help you live up to your standards and implement changes.

Gemini Deal with personal papers and any problems you face with government institutions. Taking care of business will help ease uncertainty and ongoing stress.

Sagittarius Question anyone asking for something that makes you uneasy. Avoid getting trapped by someone pressuring you to make a commitment.

Cancer Take time to evaluate and develop your ideas instead of rushing into something you know little about. Be a leader, not a follower.

Capricorn Too much of anything will turn into a bad thing. Keep moderation in mind and avoid anyone who is inconsistent or unreliable. Concentrate on your loved ones.

Leo You can bring about positive change. Taking responsibility and sticking to your plans will help you avoid getting into a disagreement. Honor your word.
