DUTERTE DC INVITATION TRUMP OPENS DOOR TO NY ZOO NAMES RAISES EYEBROWS AT UN NORTH KOREA MEETING GIRAFFE CALF ‘TAJIRI’
1
Fighting back once again against criticism, the White House says its invitation to Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte comes down to unity over North Korea. North Korea test-fired a ballistic missile on Saturday and is vowing to continue the tests. White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus said on Sunday Trump’s Duterte invite was to firm up support in Southeast Asia. Duterte,
who came to power last year, is accused of supporting the extrajudicial killing of more than 9,000 drug suspects in his country, an issue UN Human Rights High Commissioner Zeid Ra’ad al-Hussein says must be addressed directly by the White House. REUTERS

President Donald Trump opened the door to meeting North Korea’s Kim Jong Un, saying he would be honored to meet the young leader under the right circumstances, even as Pyongyang suggested it will continue its nuclear weapons tests. “If it would be appropriate for me to meet with him, I would absolutely, I would be honored to do it,” Trump told Bloomberg News
in an interview. “Under the right circumstances I would meet with him,” he added. Trump did not say what conditions would need to be met for any such meeting to occur or when it could happen, but the White House later said North Korea would need to clear many conditions before a meeting could be contemplated. “Clearly conditions are not there right now,” White House spokesman Sean Spicer said. “Tajiri” was picked as the winner of a naming contest for a baby giraffe whose long-anticipated birth, hooves first, was watched online last month by millions tuning into his mother April’s pen. Zoo owner Jordan Patch, announcing the name on ABC’s “Good Morning America” on Monday, said
the Swahili word was chosen for its forwardlooking meaning when translated into English. “Tajiri is a word in Swahili that means hope,” Patch said. But it seems no one had a dictionary of East Africa’s Kiswahili language handy, as the translation of Tajiri is “rich” or “wealthy.” Hope is usually translated as “tarajio” or “matumaini.” REUTERS

EIGHT SHOT DEAD NEAR MEXICO’S LOS CABOS

A shootout near the Mexican beach resort of Los Cabos early on Monday between suspected gang members and navy forces left eight dead, including one soldier. The incident took place before dawn on the outskirts of San Jose del Cabo, about 20 miles northeast of the area’s main tourist hub of Cabo San Lucas.
Security forces later recovered unspecified drugs, vehicles, communications equipment, military-issued weapons and uniforms, the navy said in a statement. Western Baja California Sur state, popular with international tourists and ex-pats, has seen growing gangland violence over the last several months. REUTERS

Massachusetts immigrants, activists say they’re ‘here to stay’ at May Day rally Advocates used the day to call on the commonwealth to become a sanctuary state to further protect immigrants. KRISTIN TOUSSAINT @kristindakota
kristin.toussaint@metro.us
President Donald Trump has been outspoken about wanting to help American workers. But workers here who weren’t born in America don’t feel included in that sentiment. For International Workers’ Day, or May Day, on May 1, dozens of immigrants and activists gathered at the Massachusetts State House to show support for immigrant labor and to urge the commonwealth to become a “sanctuary state.” Between chants of “We
are here to stay,” members of the Boston immigrant community, union leaders and state Sen. Jamie Eldridge spoke about the importance of recognizing immigrant labor. “We know that the Trump administration is attacking our communities, and we are here to stay and here to be united,” Jose Palma, organizing director of the community group Neighbor to Neighbor, told the crowd. One-fifth of Massachusetts workers are foreignborn, and immigrant households in the state pay $9.5 billion in federal and local taxes, according to the Massachusetts Immigrant and Refugee Coalition. Immigrant-rights advocates argue that the president’s executive orders concerning travel bans and stricter deportation tactics are used to exploit immigrant workers and
General Maura Healey issued an advisory stating that her office “serves all workers, irrespective of immigration status, and does not inquire about an individual’s immigration status.” Elena Letona, a 56-yearold East Boston resident originally from El Salvador, said it was inspiring to see people rally for immigrant rights, especially on a day that has been monumental for workers’ rights in history. “I do believe that Massachusetts can definitely be a leader across the United States in demonstrating what happens when we act from a place of love rather than from a place of fear,” she said. “I think it’s very powerful that the immigrant rights movement has reclaimed May Day, and it reminds us that the roots of this day are here in the United States.”

edly ends. After three years and millions of passenger miles as the largest operation of our kind in the country, Bridj is winding down,” he wrote. George said the company had been pursuing “a deal with a major car company,” rather than go after venture capital funding, but it didn’t work out. “This is sad and frustrating for all of us, but I firmly believe that letting pride and hope continue to push us forward in this situation would create an unacceptable level of risk for employees, investors and customers,” he wrote. Riders hailed Bridj
through the app, reserving their seat on the eight-to-10-person bus. The company would then match the user to the shuttle with the best route for their destination and the rider would walk to a pickup location to wait for their Bridj. Bridj had submitted a proposal to the MBTA in November to use Bridj buses to provide late-night service for commuters in a partnership with the transit authority. Bridj launched in Boston in 2014. The shuttle service worked with transit officials in Kansas City, Missouri, to launch a pilot program there. Ridership there was low — less than 1,500 people took Bridj rides, according to Wired — and the project ended in March 2017, but transit researchers said they still learned from the experience. “While we have been one small part of starting the conversation around mobility in the modern city,” George wrote, “we hope that you will continue to support innovators and leaders who will pick up where we left off, delivering on the promise of what cities can and should be.”

The nine-day-stint helped to strengthen West and Kardashian’s marriage, a source tells Us Weekly. “She didn’t realize how much of Kanye’s behavior stems from a mental illness.” And Kanye is serious about treatment, with

What is Katy Perry even talking about? Another day of the week ending in “y,” another daft, clueless comment from Katy Perry. That’s right: Y’alls problematic fave is up to no good again. The “Chained to the Rhythm” singer took to Instagram to make a questionable comparison that isn’t so much racist as it is just straight-up nonsensical. Replying to a fan’s Instagram Live comment about her hair, Perry said “Oh, someone says, ‘I miss your old black hair.’ Oh, really? Do you miss Barack Obama, as well? Oh, OK. Times change, bye. See you guys later.” Was there a joke in
there? And if so, did I just … miss it? I’m not trying to focus solely on the vapid, thoughtless things Perry does. For example, I appreciate that she generously agreed to help Orlando Bloom seem more famous than he actually is. But it’s hard to ignore the other stuff: you know, those gross and casual fits of cultural appropriation. Or the time when the 32-year-old boasted about being woke AF for acknowledging the Black Lives Matter movement. Katy Perry continues to be ignorant AF. And it doesn’t look like she has any intention of changing.
“JRod” is moving very, very fast Jennifer Lopez is still trying to prove to you that her and Alex Rodriguez’s love is real. So much so that, while talking about how supportive A-Rod is of her new Spanish-language album, she made a little note about the
Lopez-Rodriguez living situation. “I think it’s one of the best albums I’ve made in a long time and I’m superproud of it,” the 47-year-old told “Entertainment Tonight.” “[Alex] loves it. I’m so excited, you know, every time I finish something, I bring it home and I want him to hear it.” I’m sorry. You’re living with your boyfriend of two months? Lopez also told ET that she’s totally fine with the “JROD” moniker. “It’s fine. We kind of thought that would happen,” she said. Good to
know that Lopez and Rodriguez spend romantic, candlelit nights at their possibly shared home, chatting about what portmanteau the world could refer to them as. You gotta give it to JLo. She plotted her way to this man over a cobb salad, and now she’s telling the world it’s love. She’s truly a master of the celebrity dating form. She could teach the rest of Hollywood a thing or to, no?
Did Jesse Williams leave his wife for Minka Kelly? In late April, news broke that “Grey’s Anatomy” star and Black Twitter bae Jesse Williams filed for divorce from his wife, Aryn Drake-Lee. The couple were together for 13 years and married for five. Now reports are out that Williams split from his wife for Minka Kelly, of all people. In fact, a source tells Page Six that Williams and Kelly are definitely seeing each
other. “They started seeing each other last year. He ended things with his wife this year. … People know [about the relationship], but weren’t saying anything because he was still married.” This move is decidedly unchill of Williams. Allow me to explain. Williams’ main motivation for divorce was reportedly that he just wants to be a big-time Hollywood star — a regu-
lar Brad Pitt, which, LOL, in your dreams, dude. A source spilled to Page Six: “He wants to go out and be the hot single Hollywood guy. Jesse wants to do whatever he thinks will make him a bigger star. “He’s drinking his own Kool-Aid, and it’s ‘the Jesse show.’ He’s dead f—ing wrong.” Oh snap! Ya burnt, Williams! Jacob Latimore hits the big time The actor and musician is everywhere right now, including in the new film “Sleight.” MATT PRIGGE @mattprigge
matt.prigge@metro.us
Jacob Latimore is having a moment. He’s had them before. Since the age of 9, he’s been a professional singer. At 11, his single “Superstar” cracked the U.S. R&B charts. By 13 he was an actor, too, and has since appeared in “Black Nativity,” “Ride Along” and “The Maze Runner.” But the last handful of months have found Latimore, now 20, particularly busy. He had a key role, among the likes of Will Smith, Kate Winslet and Helen Mirren, in “Collateral Beauty.” He released an album, “Connection,” around the same time. He recently wrapped “Detroit,” Kathryn Bigelow’s hotly anticipated account of the 1967 Detroit riots, due in late summer. And there’s “Sleight,” in which he plays a magician trying to get out of the drug trade, which is now seeing a wide release.
Jacob Latimore (with Seychelle Gabriel) plays a street magician trying to escape the drug world in “Sleight.” BH TILT PUBLICITY
When we speak, Latimore’s still busy; he’s currently filming Showtime’s “The Chi,” his first time being in the main cast of a TV show. But being stuck with one, timehogging gig isn’t a bad thing. “People who do TV get to be a little more picky,” Latimore tells us. “They find they’re a little more eager to look for movies they actually want to be a part of, instead of doing a movie just because

they want to keep working.” After making one film with a pile of screen legends and another for Bigelow, he understands that he has to be picky now, too. “It’s important that my next film is my best film.” “Sleight” is a big showcase for Latimore — a lead role. He plays Bo, a young orphan who’s turned to magic to escape the world of drug dealing. He’s created an electromagnet he wears on his arm that
makes it look like he can m a k e c o i n s levitate. (Think of him as a young Magneto, except not evil.) It’s Bo’s way of d o i n g something original,
something the world will notice. Latimore gets that. “I definitely relate to going the extra mile to do something you love, to break into an industry that’s oversaturated. You want to do something that sticks out,” Latimore explains. “I always try to do things that are outside the box. It’s a perfect time for that. No one’s looking for things that are cliched. Everyone’s looking for something new.” When Latimore filmed “Detroit,” he was blown away by making a difficult film about harrowing subject matter, involving racial profiling and w h i t e cops who killed three innocent black men and wounded nine others, including two women. GETTY
Talking music Juggling an acting and a music career is tough these days. To be a successful musician, you don’t only have to be original; you have to be prolific. “A lot of my peers, their attention spans are very short,” explains Latimore. “If you’re an artist like Drake, who dropped three albums in one year — he never stops putting out projects — it’s almost like forcing people to love you, forcing them to pay attention. You can’t just put out one project every two or three years. Things get old as soon as they explode.”
“It was probably the most emotional set I’ve ever been on,” Latimore recalls. “You had everyone breaking into tears, even the ones playing the cops. They were breaking character over what was going on in the story, what was going on in those scenes. It was tough for all of us. But it was a time to come together as brothers of all colors and really tell this story.”

He’s coming to America Mexican star Eugenio Derbez hits Hollywood with “How to Be a Latin Lover.” MATT PRIGGE @mattprigge
matt.prigge@metro.us
In late August 2013, a little movie came out of nowhere and made a lot of money. It was “Instructions Not Included,” a comedy from Mexico starring Eugenio Derbez — a big star in his native country yet largely unknown in the States. And yet it went on to gross $44 million (and $66 million more abroad), making it the highest-grossing Spanish-language film of all time in the U.S. market. “It opened a lot of doors for me,” Derbez tells us. Not long after, he decided to take a leap of faith: He closed down his production offices in Mexico and relocated to Los Angeles. “I started everything from zero: a new company, a new
home, everything.” It’s paid off. Derbez scored a five-picture deal with Lionsgate. First out of the gate: “How to Be a Latin Lover,” his first starring role in an English-language film. He plays Maximo, a gold digger whose rich, 80-something wife of 25 years abruptly trades him for a younger model (in the form of Michael Cera). Rather than recreate himself in middle age, he squeezes his potbelly into the same swanky clothes and tries to find another senior citizen to fund his lavish life. It may have been a no-brainer to pair Derbez and Hollywood, but “Latin Lover” was no picnic. For one thing, comedy doesn’t always translate across national borders. “Drama is universal; we all cry for the same reasons. But comedy is very particular. It depends on each country, each culture,” Derbez explains. “It was hard to make a script that would appeal to the U.S. and also to my
audience. Because I didn’t want to forget my audience.” While “Instructions Not Included” was a Woody Allen-style auteur project — written, directed and starring the same person — “Latin Lover” was helmed by Ken Marino, the prolific star of American comedies like “The State” and “Party Down,” and written by Americans Chris Spain and Jon Zack. The supporting cast is stocked with American comedy names like Rob Corddry, Rob Riggle, Rob Lowe, plus Raquel Welch as the wealthy lady he most wants to seduce. “At first I wanted to direct it, but then I decided it was too risky. It’s a new market. It’s not in my first language,” Derbez recalls. Though he says he’ll direct again in the

future, he thinks this was the right decision: O n c e he got on set, he realized he didn’t always understand why the American jokes were funny. Hispanic humor generally tends to be very different.
“We’re probably more broad,” Derbez explains. “If you watch any Hispanic channels, we’re really big. The jokes are big, the laughs are big. In the U.S., everything’s very grounded, very cool. You don’t want the U.S. market to think, ‘This is too broad, too slapstick.’” So everyone worked at finding a balance between the two cultures. Derbez himself had to change his comedy style a touch. “Usually, I play a lot with words — making jokes playing with the Spanish language,” he
says. But he can’t do that with English yet. “I’m still learning. I’m not confident enough to play with words in English. But I’m getting there.” Derbez also found himself playing someone who’s not like him at all. “In real life, I’m very, very shy,” Derbez admits. Gaining weight helped. He put on 20 pounds, so that Maximo’s gut protrudes out of his fancy duds. “He’s not aware that he’s already old. He feels he’s still hot and sexy. But he’s not anymore.”

Surviving barre in Boston It’s not as easy as it looks. ERIN TIERNAN @ErinTiernan

Strike a pose.
My arms shook and my glasses slipped down my nose as my skin slicked with sweat. Was this plank ever going to end? But just as I was about to collapse into the perspiration pool starting to form on my yoga mat, I heard my barre instructor, Dani MacNevin of Starr Yoga in Roslindale, start the countdown. “Thank God, I said to myself. Alas, it was false hope. Just as she hit zero, we were ordered to stick our right leg out to the side and start pulsing. My mat was beginning to look even more welcoming. I was two minutes in and I wasn’t sure how I was going to make it to the end of my first-ever barre class. My only knowledge of barre workouts prior to signing up was when I’d pass people leaving a class on my way into yoga — they looked sweaty, like really sweaty. As a slightly pudgy, almost30-year-old, all that pizza and beer from my 20s has been starting to catch up and I was looking for a workout that works. Walking into barre class was a little intimi-
dating. I hit the treadmill a couple of times a week and do a bit of strength training once in a while, but I was worried I’d have trouble keeping up. In barre there are straps, balls, dumbbells and, of course, the barre — none of which I had any experience using. As the name suggests, barre draws on ballet-inspired exercises to focus on isometric strength training — basically you hold your body still while performing small, pulsing movements. Easy enough, right? The barre
Heavy lifting.
(also used in ballet) is actually just a regular old bar that runs along the wall that you can hold on to when it’s time for legs — but it definitely made me feel a little bit like a ballerina too. It sounds easy, but you try holding your leg at hip level for over a minute while pulsing upward. Oh, and don’t
forget to point your toes. I was thankful Dani wasn’t the drill sergeantstyle instructor that barks orders at the class. She walked us through the 60-minute workout — from planks to pushups, to arms, to legs and finally to core. She’d occasionally walk around and fix our form, but for the most part she was working out with us. We even got to take a child’s pose or two. Toward the end of the hour we dropped down our mats and stretched ourselves out. And then it was over. I survived. I felt strong — slightly dehydrated, but accomplished. Yes, I might have done most of the pushups on my knees, and my legs felt like JellO, but I stuck to it. If you’ve ever experienced a runner’s high, you understand. Waking up the next morning, I quickly learned that my hunch that barre would be a good totalbody workout was correct. From my triceps to my quadriceps, I knew foam-rolling would barely touch the soreness of my muscles. But it was the kind of pain that comes with the satisfaction of knowing you did something good for yourself. Three days later I’m still feeling it in my glutes, but I’m definitely going back.

14 HEALTH An NYU Langone fertility expert talks us through IVF and more. KATE MOONEY @yatinbrooklyn
kate.mooney@metro.us
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 15 percent of couples in America experience infertility issues. But seeking treatment for infertility is no easy process. It can be prohibitively expensive, emotionally and physically taxing and time consuming. A recent study showed that 25 million reproductive age women lack nearby access to fertility clinics. The success rate of treatments varies widely depending on the age of the woman, the infertility diagnosis and the fertility clinic. While some women become pregnant after the first course of combined fertility medications and intrauterine insemination, others require multiple cycles of in vitro fertilization, or IVF. And still others will undergo treatment after treatment and never conceive. The cost also varies widely. Currently only 15 states mandate that insurance companies cover infertility costs. Paying out of pocket can be exorbitant, with The American Society of Re-

productive Medicine listing the average cost of an IVF cycle at $12,400. It’s easy to be overwhelmed. We spoke with NYU Langone fertility expert Dr. Brooke HodesWertz, who shared some tips on what to expect when you’re not expecting. Who should undergo fertility treatment? The National Infertility Association defines infertility as “the inability to conceive or carry a
pregnancy to term after 12 months of trying.” Hodes-Wertz tells us the recommendations vary depending on age: if a patient is under 35, it’s 12 months; over 35, six months; and over 40, three to six months. The first step is a medical evaluation, in which a fertility specialist will assess everything from ovarian reserve (egg quantity and quality) to HSC (diagnostic hysteroscopy, which determines whether the uterine cavity is the normal size and shape) to the male partner’s semen analysis (sperm count and motility). If the results show that everything’s normal, some patients decide to keep trying naturally; if abnormal, they’ll begin treatment.
In vitro fertilization is often not the first procedure IVF is an assisted reproductive technology, in which eggs are extracted from the woman’s uterus, fertilized with sperm externally and then implanted back into the uterus. For women over 40, it’s appropriate to go right to IVF, Hodes-Wertz explains. Younger patients often start with an oral medication (to induce ovulation) coupled with an IUI (intrauterine insemination), although she notes that success rates are only 15 percent. If that doesn’t work, then patients move onto IVF.
minimally invasive and there’s a less than 1 percent chance of bleeding or infection, says HodesWertz. One of the bigger risks is something called ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome, that can occur in women who

Embryo testing is a promising new treatment “In the last couple years, clinics including NYU Langone have started to test the fertilized embryos before we put them back [in the uterus],” Hodes-Wertz explains. This process is called preimplantation
genetic diagnosis and screening, which tests the embryo for any chromosomal abnormalities (like having more or less than 46 chromosomes) that would prevent the embryo from implanting successfully. Whereas before, fertility doctors would often transfer two embryos simultaneously to increase the chances of one successfully implanting, which would sometimes result in twins or triplets, now with embryo testing, specialists can insert one normal embryo at a time. Another perk with embryo testing: Women can do several cycles of IVF to obtain multiple normal embryos, implant one and then freeze the others to have in the future — a process called embryo banking, which is similar to egg freezing. Wellness and infertility Many patients are advised to do acupuncture or yoga in conjunction with their fertility treatments, which Hodes-Wertz explains can be very helpful for the patient in reducing anxiety. However, “it’s another cost and time commitment that hasn’t been shown to improve your pregnancy rate, but might improve your experience, so it’s hard to recommend it widely,” she says.

A NEW LOW FOR GOODELL It’s a great thing that the NFL has former players, service men and women, and the handicapped announce picks at the NFL Draft. It is not a great thing that the leader of the most popular sports league in this country now feels the need to wipe his boogers on the backs of those people, though. Goodell was caught, on video, wiping his nose and then smearing his hand across the back of the dress of a girl with
one leg after she announced a pick in Philly this past weekend. If Goodell or the NFL were to address the situation (and of course they won’t … you think Peter King is going to ask him if he wiped a booger on a handicapped girl?), they will tell you that Goodell was just giving this poor young lady a literal pat on the back. Goodell is like the son of someone who inherits Reese’s or Hershey’s. It’s basically, “don’t F this up
kid … eh, whatever. Do whatever the F you want, because it’s impossible to mess this company up.” Goodell has worked in the NFL offices since 1982, which means he hasn’t been hit with any adversity in his adult life. The league is a gravy train. He’s so detached from a normal existence at this point that he can suspend the biggest star in the NFL without warrant, and feel the need to wipe his snots on handicapped girls.

THE TRUTH ABOUT OUT SPELLING Paul Pierce is done playing the sport of basketball, and that’s sad. Pierce has been the face of the Celtics organization since the late 1990s, and even when he was playing for other teams the past few years — it was clear that he was still a Celtic. Hell, Pierce wore a Celtics warmup jersey at Fenway on the day Derek Jeter retired and he hadn’t officially been a Celtic in over a year. Only in Boston does this type of stuff happen. Pierce thanked a bunch of people (including the city of Boston) on Twitter on Sunday. The tweets were heartfelt for sure, but the grammar

summer day they magically shrunk.” Instead, he showed some class and answered the question. He went on to answer seven more questions about his small hands in the interview. Much like our current POTUS, Pedroia has a little bit of small hands syndrome going
on. And it’s gotta sting now that his secret is out. “He has the smallest hands I’ve ever seen on a major league player,” former Sox manager Terry Francona said in Kurkjian’s piece. If Manny Machado brings this up at Fenway this week, look out.

also tweeted that he’s “TEADY” for a new chapter in his life. Time for a new blackberry, PP. Enjoy your retirement.
Nightlife is important to NBA players, even in the postseason. Golden State Warriors forward Matt Barnes was asked by ESPN about playing either the Utah Jazz or LA Clippers in the second round and the difference in party culture was immediately at the forefront. “No comparison,” Barnes said. “There’s no nightlife in Utah.” Barnes is mostly correct. If you’re stuck in an American city on an off-night, anyone would
rather party it up in LA than in Salt Lake City. (The Warriors will indeed face the Jazz, FYI.) That said, I’m here to defend Utah a little. You can actually drink there, and it’s not “dry” … mostly thanks to Mitt Romney, of all people. When Romney got the 2002 Winter Olympics there — the liquor laws changed dramatically. In fact, you can buy beer until 1 a.m. in Utah. Try buying beer past 11 p.m. in Boston. Ain’t happening.

Isaiah Thomas had a weekend that he will not forget for the rest of his life — for different reasons. Thomas, still grieving after the death of his sister, was in Washington state on Saturday for the funeral services. He then got on a flight back to Boston, arriving at 4 a.m. for a 1 p.m. Game 1 against the Washington Wizards. He proceeded to score a game-high 33 points as he led the Celtics to a Game 1 victory. But that isn’t all. Thomas did it with one less tooth than he had to begin the game, having a front tooth knocked out while attempting a steal during the first quarter. He calmly picked it up off the floor and trainers eventually popped it back in — only to have it fall out again later during the game. He played the rest of the game with a noticeable gap.
No matter what obstacles are thrown Thomas’ way — and there have certainly been plenty of them — he continues to power through. And because of that, the Celtics are looking to go up 2-0 on the Wizards tonight at TD Garden (8 p.m., TNT). A win would be huge for the Celtics, as historically speaking they are 34-0 all-time in best-ofseven series when leading 2-0 (the most series wins without a loss in NBA history), according to ESPN.

AL HORFORD’S REBOUND AVERAGE IN THE PLAYOFFS SO FAR
Horford’s impact The Al Horford haters were very quiet on Sunday afternoon as the C’s big offseason signing finished with 21 points, nine rebounds and 10 assists. Oftentimes, Horford’s impact on the game doesn’t show up in the box score, but that wasn’t the case in Game 1 and certainly not the case for anybody who saw the game. Another bonus of having Horford on the C’s is his playoff
Everybody who has followed the Celtics over the last couple of seasons knows they have a bit of a history with the Wizards. In short, both teams really don’t like each other. That adds another added element to the matchup where it’s easy to get caught up in the emotional aspect of the game, especially with guys like Jae Crowder and Marcus Smart. Smart got a little frustrated with his play and the officiating in Game 1, admitting to reporters on Monday that he took himself out of the game in the third quarter. When that happened, Horford sat down next to him on the bench to talk and perhaps show that veteran presence. Crowder, meanwhile, had a very strong game for Boston, finishing with 24 points, six rebounds, and a gamehigh plus-26.
C’s lucking out with injuries It’s hard to talk about the C’s Game 1 win and not mention the fact that Wizards power forward Markieff Morris left the game with what appeared to be a severely sprained ankle. Morris was a plusseven at the time of his departure, and Crowder and Horford went on to have stellar games in his absence. Will Morris be available to play in Game 2? He told reporters after Game 1 that he would be, but also said it was one of his worst sprains. And if he does play, how effective will he be? The C’s will need to prepare for another physical battle with or without Morris, as Marcin Gortat had his way on a number of occasions, finishing with 16 points and 13 rebounds.

Aries Going on a shopping spree or getting together with friends will improve your day. A romantic gesture will turn out to be more entertaining than expected.
Libra You’ll enjoy the benefits that go along with being popular. Don’t let it go to your head. Give back as much as, if not more than, what you receive from others.
Taurus Don’t let the little things get to you. If someone tries to make you feel guilty, don’t feel obliged to play along. Look at what you can accomplish and make it happen.
Scorpio You’ll have to think outside the box to avoid an emotional scene. Be creative and initiate plans that will please everyone. Leaving someone out will lead to trouble.
Gemini A sense of compromise will lead to accomplishment. Personal improvements will enhance your love life. Share your feelings and engage in romantic interactions.
Sagittarius Put more time, money and energy into improving your environment and relationships. A little effort and attention will make a difference in your life.
Cancer It’s in your best interest to put greater emphasis on personal change instead of trying to change others. A relationship will suffer if you are inconsistent or mercurial.
Capricorn Be careful about your emotions. Whether an arrangement is business, financial or personal, you cannot let your feelings dictate what you should or shouldn’t do.
Leo A personal pick-me-up will do you good. Find something you enjoy doing and ask a good friend to join you. The experience will be enlightening.
Aquarius Personal gains should be your top priority. Whether it’s a mental, physical or emotional change you want to make, this is a good day to start the process.
Virgo Take better care of your appearance and how you present yourself to others. Looks and attitude can make a difference when you are trying to get ahead.
Pisces Take better care of your health and physical well-being. A little exercise and a nutritious diet will help you be more productive. Trust your instincts. EUGENIA LAST
