President Donald Trump on Tuesday fired FBI Director James Comey in a shock development, saying Comey was no longer able to effectively lead the agency. “It is essential that we find new leadership for the FBI that restores public trust and confidence in its vital law enforcement mission,” he said in a letter to Comey released by the White House. A tunnel partly collapsed on Tuesday at a plutonium-handling facility at the Hanford Nuclear Reservation in Washington state, but there was no indication workers or the public were exposed to radiation, federal officials said. Workers evacuated or took cover and turned off ventilation systems after damage was discovered in the wall of a transport tunnel about 170 miles

east of Seattle, officials with the Department of Energy’s Hanford Joint Information Center said. The damage was more serious than initially reported, and the take-cover order was expanded to cover the entire facility after response crews found a 400-square-foot section of the decommissioned rail tunnel had collapsed, center spokesman Destry Henderson said in a video posted on Facebook. An apparently mentally unstable man caused panic among passengers on a airliner heading for Cairo from Jeddah in Saudi Arabia when he threatened to blow up the aircraft, airport sources said. The 61-year-old man, a retired textile worker from Egypt, was subdued by security staff on the plane, operated by Saudi airline Flynas, and arrested when it landed in the Egyptian capital, the sources

said. The man told police he was not aware of what he had done, according to the sources. He was being questioned and was expected to be referred to a psychiatrist to determine his mental state. State-run newspaper Ahramgate said no weapons or explosives were found with him. Air security is a sensitive topic in Egypt. An Egyptair plane crashed in the Mediterranean last year, killing all 66 people on board. REUTERS

CNN reported on Tuesday that Graham intended to look into Trump’s business ties to see if any connections exist between Russia and the Trump campaign or the president’s associates. REUTERS

FBI Director James Comey has been ‘terminated and removed from office’ Comey had been overseeing key FBI investigations.

KIMBERLY M. AQUILINA @KimESTAqui kimberly.aquilina@metro.us

President Donald Trump fired FBI Director James Comey on Tuesday, saying that Comey is incapable of leading the agency. “Today, President Donald J. Trump informed FBI Director James Comey that he has been terminated and removed from office,” a statement tweeted by White House spokesman Sean Spicer read. “President Trump acted based on the clear recommendations of both Deputy Attorney General Red Rosenstein and Attorney General Jeff Sessions.” “The FBI is one of our nation’s most cherished and respected institutions and today will mark a new beginning for our crown jewel of law enforcement,” Trump said in a statement. The firing came as Comey was leading the investigation into whether Trump and his colleagues colluded with Russia to influence the 2016 election. Trump has called that investigation a “hoax.” Comey was one in a line of officials who were investigating Trump that Trump fired. Sally Yates, former acting attorney general, was dismissed in January after she refused to defend his travel ban on citizens from seven Muslim-majority countries. Preet Bharara, the former U.S. attorney, refused to resign after Sessions asked for the resignations of 46 federal prosecutors. “I did not resign,” Bharara tweeted in March. “Moments ago I was fired.” Yates, Bharara and Comey were all part of in-

vestigations into Trump or his appointees. “While I greatly appreciate you informing me, on three separate occasions, that I am not under investigation, I nevertheless concur with the judgment of the Department of Justice that you are not able to effectively lead the bureau,” Trump said in a letter to Comey. On Tuesday, a report suggested that Comey had exaggerated the number of emails from Hillary Clinton’s friend and aide Huma Abedin to her husband Anthony Weiner’s laptop. Instead of “hundreds and thousands,” it appears to have been a handful of emails not marked classified. The termination comes on the heels of a two-page letter the FBI submitted to the Senate Judiciary Committee correcting Comey’s testimony. Only “a small number” of the thousands of emails found had been forwarded. Most of the others were backed up from electronic devices, CBS reported. Comey told the Senate Judiciary Committee last week that it makes him “mildly nauseous” that he might have impacted the 2016 election. A memo from Rosenstein stated that Comey was “wrong to usurp the attorney general’s authority on July 5, 2016, and announce this conclusion that the case should be closed without prosecution.” “It is not the function of the director to make such an announcement,” the memo continued. “At most, the director should have said the FBI had completed its investigation and presented its findings to federal prosecutors.” Comey, 56, was nominated by President Barack Obama in 2013.

FOREIGN EXCHANGE Dollar slips after Trump ďŹ res FBI director The dollar slid and the perceived safe-haven yen gained after President Donald Trump abruptly ďŹ red FBI Director James Comey in a move that shocked Washington. Comey had been leading his agency’s investigation into alleged Russian meddling in the 2016 U.S. presidential campaign and possible collusion with Trump’s campaign. Democrats immediately accused Trump of acting out of political motives.

Any U.S. political turmoil tends to weigh on the dollar, as a divided Congress could derail Trump’s promised tax reform and stimulus steps. The dollar index, which tracks the greenback against a basket of six major currencies, slipped 0.2 percent to 99.437, moving away from a three-week high of 99.688. The dollar dipped 0.2 percent against its Japanese counterpart to 113.77 yen, below its overnight high of 114.325, which was

its highest since March 15. Rekindled fears that North Korea could be gearing up for another weapons test also underpinned the yen. “In the early morning hours of Asian trade, the yen started to strengthen, and it could have been the reaction of overseas markets to a North Korean diplomat’s comments, said Mitsuo Imaizumi, Tokyo-based chief foreign-exchange strategist for Daiwa Securities. News on Tuesday, Pyongyang’s ambassador to the UK, Choe Il, said North Korea is ready to conduct a sixth nuclear test. Observers of that country have said such a test was likely, but his comments reminded markets that tensions could escalate on the recently calm Korean peninsula. South Korea’s newly elected liberal leader Moon Jae-in, who will be sworn in on Wednesday, is expected to try to engage Pyongyang with dialogue. REUTERS

THE FBI BYE BYE I knew FBI Director James Comey was doomed the day he announced his findings in the Hillary Clinton email investigation. After scrutinizing of thousands of her messages, questioning key players, and having his crack agents analyze the whole shebang Comey took the extremely unusual step of announcing his findings publicly. And it was something to behold. Comey hammered her for sloppy handling of classified information, for her private server, for her judgment — suggesting unmistakably that she had done something terribly wrong. In the process, he threw gasoline on the raging perception among many voters that she could not be trusted. With a hot presidential contest afoot, Democrats were furious. But Republicans were angry too. Many of them were chortling over the prospect of Clinton being frog marched off to the Iron Bar Hilton to star in a real-life version of Orange Is The New Black. But the punch line to Comey’s diatribe was not what they expected: He refused to charge her with any crime. More followed — including Comey’s 11th-hour announcement that new emails had caused him to reopen the investigation, and his even later announcement that he was closing it again. Many Democrats believe it cost Clinton the election, and they could not forgive him. The White House suggests his handling of that whole matter is why he

TOM FOREMAN Opinion

was fired. However, it is not lost on anyone that Comey’s FBI is also conducting a vigorous investigation into Russian connections swirling around Team Trump — and plenty are insisting that’s the real reason for his dismissal. The late gonzo-writer Hunter S. Thompson famously described the music business as â€œâ€Ś a cruel and shallow money trench, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs.â€? I don’t know if James Comey is a good man. But I do know there was a time not long ago when big-name Democrats and Republicans alike praised him as the rarest of D.C. habituĂŠs: a guy who would speak truth to power and investigate without favor regardless of the backlash. But then he started piling up too many enemies and not enough friends on both sides of the aisle. And when that happens in DC, it’s a time to start packing boxes.

Potholes along a Philly street. Mayor Kenney’s proposed new budget would increase spending on street quality. CHARLES MOSTOLLER

CITY COUNCIL SHOULD PUMP SOME LIFE AND MONEY INTO STREETS Governments often get chastised for throwing money at problems. Which can be reasonable, especially when there’s no discernible plan behind the money. But sometimes, throwing money at the problem is the only way to solve it. Money can be the great equalizer, and Philly’s streets have not typically been treated as equals, especially compared to their paved counterparts in our peer cities. According to a 2015 report by the Bicycle Coalition, cities such as Baltimore, Pittsburgh and Chicago have regularly outspent Philadelphia — both as a total, a percentage of the entire city budget and per capita — on streets spending. For instance, while Pittsburgh has typically spent about 4.2 percent of its budget on city streets, Philly has spent just 0.7 percent. When Baltimore has spent $143 per capita on city streets, Philadelphia has spent $16. And when it comes to some of our rich neighbors, like Washington D.C. and New York City, the comparison is even more dire. But this year’s budget could be the moment that changes, if the City Council approves the mayor’s recommended budgetary requirements for our streets, and the Streets

RANDY LOBASSO

Department. The Streets Department manages 2,525 miles of city streets, 320 miles of bridges, roughly 20,000 intersections, 100,000 street lights and more than 400 miles of bike lanes. And with the budgets that department has been given over the last decade, it’s no wonder cyclists, buses and people alike regularly find themselves avoiding sinkholes and gashes in the streetscape. The city’s paving budget has regularly been underfunded, but we got a quick boost in 2009 thanks to the stimulus, at $20 million. The next year, we got a dismal $2 million to repave streets, and since then, it’s never got anywhere close to the $20 million we used in 2009. And given those con-

straints, the paving backlog (that is, the total miles of streets that need to be paved but aren’t) has grown to more than 1,000 miles. Few people talk about this, but the repercussions are felt by anyone who tries to move throughout the city on a daily basis, whether by motor vehicle, bicycle or by walking. Cracked sidewalks, faded bike lanes and pot holes are a regular part of life in Philadelphia. But they don’t have to be. Mayor Kenney’s Capital Program through 2023 recommends that $174 million in new funds be invested in the reconstruction and resurfacing of city streets enabling the city to reach a pace of resurfacing 131 miles of streets annually within seven years to ensure a state of good repair. Additionally, $52.5 million will be invested in other Streets Department projects over the six-year program, including the critical replacement and renovation of bridges and increased street lighting. Of that, $5 million for street re-engineering through Vision Zero has been included. The Kenney budget’s proposal to pump some life — and money — into the Streets Department is moving the city in the right direction. Council should pass it.

Is Donald Trump lying about being good at golf? Several claims of Donald Trump cheating at golf suggest he might be exaggerating a bit. EVAN MACY @evan_macy

evan.macy@metro.us

In 1994, former North Korean dictator Kim Jong-Il claimed that he shot a (by far) record of 38-under par, a score of 34 on a par 72 — witnessed by 17 bodyguards. In that incredible supposed performance, he was said to have made five holes-in-one in the round, also a record. Golf has long been a hobby for world leaders. In the U.S. alone, 19 presidents have taken up golf, the best among them John F. Kennedy, Dwight D. Eisenhower and George W. Bush. The current president of the United States is no less in love with the game, as Donald Trump has, according to some sources, played nearly 20 rounds of golf during his first 100 days (Obama played just once in that timeframe). Just how good is Trump on the links? The reports are mixed. According to a spotty, not regularly updated entry in the USGA’s handicap tracker, Trump boasts a 2.8 index, by far the best of any president. He also claims to have 19 club championships under his belt — one of which, according to the Washington Post, was won before his club even opened in 1999. Another uncorroborated claim is his amateur course record at Mar-a-

A 2.8 index is pretty good for anyone. Deciphering the information available, Trump has posted nine rounds above 80 over his last 20 posted scores — a little much for a low single-digit handicapper. Golf Digest writer Jamie Diaz played a round with Trump three years ago and was a bit suspect of his swing. Diaz writes that Trump drove the ball around 230 yards due to a steep backswing that was better suited for iron play. His iron-striking was, to Diaz’s eye, pretty solid and his short game “servicable.â€? Trump himself told Diaz: “I think of golf as a very natural game. I never

really wanted to know a lot about my technique. I really trust instinct a lot, in golf and a lot of things. There are no shortage of cheating Trump stories, and it’s hard to imagine anyone playing golf with the president — a former reality TV star and real estate mogul — and imagining he took a few “gimmies or “mulligans. Rock star Alice Cooper all but came out and said Trump was the biggest cheater he’s ever played golf with, and Sports Illustrated writer Rick Reilly saw quite a few liberties taken by the president. “He took the world’s first gimme chip-in, Reilly said. Reilly wrote that on holes 1, 13 and 17, Trump took mulligans. Not surprisingly, Trump refuted the claim. “I always thought he was a terrible writer, he said. “I absolutely killed him, and he wrote very inaccurately.

A judge has vacated the 2013 murder conviction of late NFL star Aaron Hernandez. Hernandez hanged himself in his Massachusetts jail cell on April 19. The following week, his lawyers then filed a motion to vacate the former Patriots tight end’s murder conviction. In Massachusetts, murder convictions are automatically appealed before the state’s highest court, but since Hernandez died before that appeal could go through, a legal

Quinn said this is especially pertinent when “a defendant’s death is a result of his own conscious, deliberate and voluntary act, as with suicide, the AP reported. A 73-year-old Bucks County man faces up to 80 years in prison after he pleaded guilty Monday to sexually assaulting a 6-year-old girl multiple times in his home, during “secret games” he had played with the child. According to information released by the Bucks Country District Attorney’s Office, Tony Carter, of the 600 block of East Street Road in Warminster, pleaded guilty to two counts of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse in front of Judge John J. Rufe at Bucks County Common Pleas Court in Doylestown. Law enforcement officials said that Carter’s crimes came to light in November, after the young victim told an interviewer at the Philadelphia Children’s Alliance that she and Carter played secret “games” that she considered “bad.” These “games” consisted of oral sex and other violations, and had

Texas border town sues over state law to punish ‘sanctuary cities’ A small Texas town on the Mexico border filed suit in federal court on Tuesday seeking to throw out on U.S. constitutional grounds a new Texas law that aims to punish socalled “sanctuary cities.” El Cenizo, near Laredo, said it has offered refuge since before Texas, the largest Republican-controlled state, was part of the United States. It said the new law forces it and other localities to forgo their duties to serve and protect at home to become de facto immigration agents. “The use by the state of city and county resources for federal immigration enforcement breeds distrust of local government and officials, who have no power to change federal laws, and can also wrench apart

family and community structures,” said the lawsuit. The Texas law signed by Republican Gov. Greg Abbott on Sunday takes effect on Sept. 1. It comes as Republican U.S. President Donald Trump has made combating illegal immigration a priority. Texas, with the longest border with Mexico of any U.S. state, has been at the forefront of the immigration debate.

The lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court in San Antonio by El Cenizo’s mayor and others, named Abbott and Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton as defendants. On Monday, Paxton filed a lawsuit on Texas’ behalf in a U.S. district court seeking to have the law, known as Senate Bill 4, declared constitutional, calling it “a vital step in securing our borders.” The Texas law, the first such measure passed since Trump took office, calls for jail time for police chiefs and sheriffs who fail to cooperate in immigration enforcement. The law also allows police to ask people about their immigration status during a lawful detention, even for minor infractions. REUTERS

Don’t worry, Zooey Deschanel is still twee even as a mom ALL PHOTOS GETTY IMAGES

Oh, snap: Abby Lee Miller is going to the clinker. The “Dance Moms terror’s bankruptcy fraud case has come to a close after a year and a half. Miller has been sentenced to one year in federal prison, followed by two years’ supervised release. According to People, Miller was charged with attempting to hide $775,000 of income from her Lifetime series and its spin off “Abby’s Ultimate Dance Competition during Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings. She allegedly hid the money in secret bank accounts from

2012 to 2013. Shady! She was also accused of splitting $120,000 in Australian currency into separate plastic bags, and having different friends carry the amounts in their luggage. That’s against the law, apparently: People are supposed to report if they are bringing more than $10,000 of a foreign currency into the United States. Damn, the government is always up in someone’s business. Here’s hoping her experience in prison will be just like the first season of “Orange Is the New Black, but perhaps less cinematic.

Zooey Deschanel — the most famous manic pixie dream girl there ever was — welcomed a son with husband Jacob Pechenik last week. According to People, his name is Charlie Wolf. The woman can’t deny herself a subtle dosing of twee, I tell you. Deschanel and her husband also share a daughter together, Elsie Otter. Yeah. Otters and wolves. ence goes, but what do I know? I’m not the star of “New Girl, a show that has majorly waned in popularity because, let’s be real, who wants to watch a bunch of people in their late 30s live in a perpetual state of young adulthood in a loft they absolutely can’t afford? I mean, I used to like “New Girl a lot. But like most fantasies about marginally attractive people living together in what I assume used to be a Nabisco factory, it takes quite a bit of suspension of disbelief. But I digress. Congratulations to the happy couple!

Katy Perry says words about her new album Katy Perry and Taylor Swift are in a near-constant state of beefing. All because Perry apparently stole a dancer from Swift. It all started in 2014. Swift told Rolling Stone that “Bad Blood was about another female artist. “She basically tried to sabotage an entire arena tour, Swift said. “She tried to hire a bunch of people out from under me. According to Entertainment Weekly, some internet sleuthing led the majority of us to believe that her vaguely veiled comments were about Perry, since

she and Swift have had the same dancers on their tours. Now, Perry is set to release an album and she’s talking about it to everyone who will listen. But will she have a response to Swift’s “Bad Blood? “There is no one thing that’s calling out any one person, she says. “One thing to note is: You can’t mistake kindness for weakness and don’t come for me. Oh lovely. Perry spouted a bunch of words without actually saying anything. That’s chill!

We soon start wondering if this neglected woman and this sometimes quite forward European will fall in love. But “Paris Can Wait isn’t a simple “Will they or won’t they? movie. And Lane likes that the two characters spend most of the movie in a gray zone. “We’re so used to that ‘thumb up or down’ thing — live or die, does she or doesn’t she, black or white, Lane says. “There’s very little patience for mystery. That’s where I think reality abides — in the amorphous question mark about how we feel. Jacques even confronts her about how

That’s why they say, ‘Pardon my French.’ Because if you actually do a literal translation of a lot of French, it’s actually pretty frank, she says, with a laugh. For roles like “Paris Can Wait — a romantic film about a middle-aged woman — Lane has to go outside Hollywood. In Hollywood she mostly plays mothers. Right now, she’s Martha Kent, aka Super-

man’s mom in the DC Cinematic Universe. (She’ll be reprising the role in this fall’s “Justice League.) But even that, she thinks, can be empowering. “Being Superman’s mom is quite heroic, as far as the impact she has in creating a good man, Lane explains. After all, moms are big deals. “We all make our therapists rich talking about our mothers, right? If it’s not one thing, it’s your mother — that’s the joke.

Making a movie in which you eat tons of food isn’t as fun as it sounds. Diane Lane spends most of the romantic comedy “Paris Can Wait traveling through France, digging into scrumptious-looking French dishes. It was all delicious. But acting and eating at the same time isn’t always easy. “I had some low notes in the reality of eating food, Lane tells us. “My eyes started to strobe from eating too much chocolate — like I was going to have a seizure or something. They say chocolate is a drug, and I proved it. I thought they were joking. She wouldn’t describe herself as a foodie, though. “I make sure I have foodie friends, and I allow them to show off their foodie-ness to me. And I reap the benefits, she says. In the film, the Oscar-nominated actress, 52, plays Anne, the wife of a big-shot film producer played by Alec Baldwin. LOVE WHERE YOU LIVE

Own a rare piece of Philly’s history, $750K Your weekly dose of #RealEstatePorn. ALEXIS SACHDEV @lexsachdev

alexis.sachdev@metro.us

As Philadelphia’s skyline grows, boasting of modern angles and draped in a sheath of reflective glass, residents and visitors are relieved to find one street that time has seemingly forgotten. Here, uneven cobblestones trace a small path between rows of some of the oldest homes in the nation, lovingly restored inside and out. Elfreth’s Alley has preserved three centuries of history through 32 residences. While the alleyway, originally built in the early 1700s as a cart path, is open year round to visitors, homeowners open their doors only twice a year for rare

tours: during Christmastime and on Fete Day, which falls this year on June 3. An even rarer opportunity opened last week: the chance to own one of the alley’s Federalstyle homes, built in 1741. It served as a baker’s residence and a commercial bakery at one time. One of the largest on the block, 123 Elfreth’s Alley is a four-bedroom trinity that oozes historic charm on the outside, but boasts all the modern amenities a homeowner wants inside. It’s currently on the market for $749,900. At a whopping 2,600 square feet, 123 Elfreth’s Alley draws you in with its spacious living room, complete with original pinewood floors, brick fireplace and natural light. An eat-in kitchen,

formal dining room and backyard oasis round out the first floor. The master suite, with three closets, an adjacent den with built-in bookcases and a master bathroom dominate the second floor. Up the trinity stairs to the third floor are two more bedrooms, a sitting room and a full bathroom. Though the home’s previous owners have painstakingly restored many of 123 Elfreth’s Alley’s outdated elements, parts of the baker’s home still remain, like original exposed brick and the baker’s oven in the basement, and the spiral stairs. Other parts of the home are very new, like a rooftop deck offering sweeping views of the Ben Franklin Bridge, Old City and Philadelphia’s ever-changing skyline.

Defenses improve all around NFC East after NFL draft The Eagles’ three biggest rivals made improvements in the NFL draft. LUKE MILLER @LukeFM7

sports@metro.us

Among the 12 picks the teams had on the first two days of the draft, NFC East teams took a combined 10 defensive players, with the Giants contributing the lone two offensive selections. The Eagles’ positive draft isn’t about to be cancelled out by the Cowboys, Giants and Washington turning in their own good hauls, but you may as well get acquainted with the talent you might soon see frustrating the Birds.

Cowboys Like the Eagles, the Cowboys biggest concern entering the draft was cornerback: They lost two starters, Brandon Carr and Morris Claiborne and to this point had signed Nolan Carroll to replace them. Also like the Eagles, the Cowboys spent their first three picks on a pass rusher and back-to-back corners. Taco Charlton became an every-down player as a senior at Michigan and had 9.5 sacks. At an intimidating 6-foot-6, he was a nice grab at 28 overall. Their two cornerback picks, Chidobe Awuzie and Jourdan Lewis (a second Michigan selection) might be even better value, coming at 60 and 92, respectively. Awuzie was oft-connected to the

Eagles and should be ready to step into a starting role from day one. Lewis’ size (5-foot-10) and traits has him projected to a nickel role, which he should be ready to fill pending the outcome of a domestic violence charge.

Evan Engram gives the Giants and Eli Manning even more ďŹ repower.

Giants The Giants’ passing game continues to get scarier on the back of their first round pick: Ole Miss tight end Evan Engram, taken 23rd. With 6-foot-3, 236-pound size and a 4.4 40-yard-dash, Engram looks more like a wide receiver running routes than a tight end. A firstteam All-American last year, he racked up 926 yards and eight touchdowns. He’ll be their most dangerous weapon at the position since

Jeremy Shockey. They didn’t waste any time replacing Johnathan Hankins at defensive tackle either. Their second pick, No. 55, went to the second Alabama defensive tackle to go off the board, Dalvin Tomlinson. The news gets a little better from there. It’s hard to picture Jared Goff’s successor at Berkeley, Davis Webb, who the Giants took with the 87th pick, fulfilling the same role with Eli Manning. Â

Washington Picking three spots after the Eagles, Washington had Johnathan Allen fall into their laps at 17. He had 10.5 sacks and won the Bednarik and Nagurski awards after returning for his senior season. He was considered among the top five players in the draft, but even with concerns about his shoulder durability, no one expected the slide to last this long. With their second pick

they avoided moving to a second school, taking Alabama linebacker Ryan Anderson 49th. Anderson made a living rushing the passer in college but will probably play a more traditional linebacking role in the pros, without great athleticism to come off the edge. Another favorite Eagles target, UCLA corner Fabian Moreau was the selection at 81, and should be a steal after a pectoral injury caused him to drop.

Kelce-Ingram swap makes sense, but how realistic is it? With Saints center Max Unger injured, the Eagles may finally have a suitor for Jason Kelce.

more or less irrelevant for a swap to work. One or both teams may need to throw in draft picks to smooth it over, but the deal makes sense — in theory. It is even more realistic given that NFL. com insider Ian Rapoport tweeted that the move is a possibility. But would the Saints be willing to give up on Unger for the entire year? The Saints could choose just to rely on back ups to make it through the absense of Unger, for however long it would be. But there is little doubt that a veteran 1,000-yard rusher would be a huge asset to the Eagles, particularly with them expected to cut ties with injured back Ryan Mathews at some point this offseason. Some other sources suggest that talks have happened between the two teams but there has been no concrete news on the rumor of late.

Sports fans know better than most people that just because something makes total and complete sense doesn’t mean it will happen. Such are the recent rumors that the Eagles and Saints are in talks to strengthen one another’s core weaknesses. After news broke that Saints center Max Unger injured his foot and wouldn’t be healthy when the 2017 season begins, New Orleans now has a big hole at the middle of its offensive line. With the Eagles on the market to trade or even cut Jason

Ingram could be the short-term running back solution the Eagles need. GETTY IMAGES

Kelce before the end of training camp, their Pro Bowl center is no doubt an appealing piece for the Saints, who will need all the help they can get protecting new running back Adrian Peterson and gunslinger Drew Brees. The Eagles have depth at offensive line with Stephen Wisniewski and

Isaac Seumalo each able to step in and start at center. The addition of Peterson makes last year’s starter, 27-year-old Mark Ingram, expendable. And he plays a position, running back, that the Eagles are desperately thin at. He also is being paid around $1 million less than Kelce is, making the salary issue

Phillies hot prospect watch: Hoskins on fire in Lehigh Valley For whatever reason, the Phillies seem to be content in letting their current crop of veteran ballplayers vie to keep the team in contention, somewhat, in the early part of the season. That is good news for future pieces like Odubel Herrera and Maikel Franco, as well as for surprise contributors like Aaron Altherr. But a few talented prospects are being blocked at positions like catcher, starting pitcher and first base as the struggles of Cameron Rupp, Jerad Eickhoff and Tommy Joseph continue. Eventually, the top prospects on the list below will get their MLB opportunity. Until then, here’s a look at the top performers currently in the minors: Jorge Alfaro, C, Lehigh Valley The 23-year-old catching prospect has cooled

sporting an error-free month at second base. He is also hitting .287 and flexing some power with seven home runs through 26 games.

Rhys Hoskins is raking in Triple-A while Tommy Joseph Struggles.

down, slightly, from a redhot start hitting .288 over his last 10 games but still boasts an impressive .326 batting average over 24 games. He’ll likely remain in Triple-A a little longer as the Phils are happy with their MLB catching so far. Tom Eshelman, SP, Reading Fresh off eight shutout innings tossed in a Monday night win, the 22-year-old pitching prospect is 4-0 with an impressive 2.43 ERA on the year.

Mickey Moniak, OF, Lakewood Last year’s first overall pick isn’t far from home, playing for the Blue Claws in Ocean County, New Jersey. And just ahead of his 19th birthday, the teenage phenom continues to hit well as a professional. He’s compiled a base hit in seven of his last 10 games and is hitting .282 on the year. Scott Kingery, 2B, Reading Kingery won an award in April as the Phillies’ best minor-league fielder,

Rhys Hoskins, 1B, Lehigh Valley Hoskins was the organization’s top hitter for April and is still scorching hot in Triple-A, with eight homers and a .343 batting average through 30 games. Will he leap to the big leagues soon? “Look, this is Rhys’ first taste of Triple-A,” Phillies GM Klentak told the media last week. “He’s off to an incredible start, though I’ll add not necessarily all that more incredible than what he did at Lakewood, where he was awesome, what he did at Clearwater and what he did at Reading, where he was also awesome. ” Nick Williams, OF, Lehigh Valley Williams was touted as a future power-hitting outfielder but he still hasn’t found his power stroke. He makes out hot list because of his current stretch of hitting, lifting his average from .237 three weeks ago to .278 as of Tuesday. EVAN MACY

Aries Be creative. Taking the time to do something special for a loved one will be appreciated. A unique relationship will evolve if you discuss your needs.

Libra A money matter will fare far better if you separate your feelings from the process. Investing in your surroundings must be done with intelligence, not your emotions.

Taurus Offer to help someone in need and make a point to be mindful of others. How you relate to others will determine how successful you are and the progress you’ll make.

Scorpio Handle relationship issues swiftly. Be open to discussion of what needs to be done to make things better. Offer suggestions and put your plans in motion.

Gemini Your emotions will play tricks on you. Be careful not to react too quickly if someone does something suspicious. Gather evidence before you point fingers.

Sagittarius Keep personal information a secret by keeping your feelings, financial concerns or health issues to yourself. Personal changes look promising.

Cancer An unusual development with someone close to you will require attention. Taking the lead and making a physical gesture will help keep the peace.

Capricorn Your ideas may appear unorthodox to some, but once developed, they will come across as genius. Spend time working out the details in the privacy of your home.

Leo Don’t fight the impossible. You have more going your way than you realize. Speak up and compromise to get what you want. Travel is encouraged.

Aquarius Deal with matters concerning institutions diplomatically. Use your ingenuity to come up with a plan that will not result in ramifications affecting others.

Virgo You’ll convince others to see things your way. Attending a business meeting or taking a course that will add to your skills or knowledge will bring good results.

Pisces An idea you have can be taken to the next level. Call in favors if it will help you move forward faster. An unexpected encounter will turn into a joint venture. EUGENIA LAST
