GORE: TRUMP CAN’T STOP HACKERS HIT RUSSIAN BANK CUSTOMERS PROGRESS ON CLIMATE

1

President Donald Trump cannot stop momentum to tackle climate change, former U.S. vice president Al Gore said on Monday as he promoted his latest film on global warming at the Cannes Film Festival. “An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power” is the follow up to “An Inconvenient Truth,” the documentary credited with bringing climate change into mainstream political discourse in the United

States a decade ago. Shot mostly before Trump’s election, it features the Republican candidate on the campaign trail promising to abolish environmental regulations and boost the coal and oil industries. At one point Trump tells a rally: “We need some global warming — it’s freezing!” REUTERS

Russian cyber criminals used malware planted on Android mobile devices to steal from domestic bank customers and were planning to target European lenders before their arrest, investigators and sources with knowledge of the case told Reuters. Their campaign raised a relatively small sum by cybercrime standards - more than 50 million roubles ($892,000) - but

they had also obtained more sophisticated malicious software for a modest monthly fee to go after the clients of banks in France and possibly a range of other Western nations. Russia’s relationship to cyber crime is under intense scrutiny after U.S. intelligence officials alleged that Russian hackers had tried to help Republican Donald Trump win the U.S. presidency by hacking Democratic Party servers. Former White House national security adviser Michael Flynn declined to comply with a subpoena from the Senate Intelligence Committee as it investigates possible Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. election. He invoked his Fifth Amendment protection against self-incrimination. The retired lieutenant general, a key witness in the Russia probe, sent a letter to the committee inform-

ing members of his decision. The Senate Intelligence Committee is conducting one of the main congressional probes into U.S. intelligence agency allegations of Russian meddling in the U.S. presidential election and whether there was any collusion between President Donald Trump’s campaign and Russia. PREP SCHOOL STAFFERS IN SEXUAL MISCONDUCT

An elite New Hampshire prep school acknowledged on Monday that 13 former members of its staff engaged in sexual misconduct with students in incidents dating back decades, following an independent review by a Boston law firm. The St. Paul’s School apologized and said that it had failed to adequately investigate allegations of sexual abuse by staff. The report follows the arrest last year of a former

Episcopal priest, Howard White, who served as the school’s chaplain in the late 1960s and early 1970s on charges that he sexually assaulted a teenage student. “The school failed to protect students from sexual abuse and sexual misconduct done to them by adults entrusted with their care,” wrote Rector Michael Hirschfeld and Board of Trustees President Archibald Cox in an open letter to school families. The letter that Thomas Elsman left for his daughter on Monday at the Times Square crash memorial.

The letter left at a memorial in Times Square from Thomas Elsman, the father of two victims, one of whom died, in last Thursday’s car crash at the busy intersection. CARLOS LLAMAS

Heartbroken dad of Times Square rampage victim pens open letter Alyssa Elsman’s father vented his rage and grief in a letter he posted at a Times Square memorial to his daughter, who was killed after an intoxicated driver plowed through a sidewalk crowded with pedestrians. HAYDEN MITMAN @MetroPhilly letters@metro.us

Over the weekend, the father of the 18-year-old girl who was killed in Times Square when an intoxicated man plowed his car through a pedestrian-filled sidewalk at the famous tourist spot left a touching note in memory of his daughter at the place where she died. “Alyssa loved this

city ... she loved Times Square,” Michigan resident Thomas Elsman wrote of his daughter. “She would appreciate all your kind words, but she would also tell us all to get back up and continue.” Over the weekend, Elsman placed his letter near the place where his daughter was fatally injured. He had driven to New York City from his family’s home in Portage, Michigan, to visit his 13-year-old daughter – who was injured in the same crash that killed Alyssa and injured more than 20 others – and Elsman also took the time to place a personal letter at the makeshift memorial in Times Square. On May 18, military veteran Richard Rojas intentionally drove his vehicle into a crowd in Times Square. At the time, Rojas had consumed K2, a variety of

synthetic marijuana, which was reportedly laced with PCP, and he also said he intended to commit “suicide by cop” when he caused the fatal crash. When he came to the city, Elsman initially traveled to the police district in Midtown South, shouting that he

On-time rate not key for MTA: Report “They’ve convinced themselves they don’t need to worry about abysmal ‘ontime’ performance,” a source said. NIKKI M. MASCALI @MetroNewYork

nikki.mascali@metro.us

To say the MTA is inundated with New Yorkers’ complaints of late is likely an understatement, and the reveal of a new internal report from the agency, which was obtained by the New York Daily News, may not help matters. The city’s subway system is the largest in the world, and its users rely on it, many solely, to get them where they need to go in a fast, efficient manner, but on-time importance is not top of mind for the agency, according to the report. The report was authored by an MTA senior director of performance

analysis and two associate analysts who examined the system’s frequent train delays as well as the “seeming impossibility of improving the numbers,” the Daily News reported. Despite the morethan-100-year-old system facing constant issues due to aged train cars, tracks and track equipment such as signals, the MTA

is requesting that its staffers address the long wait times between trains by having them travel faster or slower, wait in stations or skip stops altogether, the report said. The trains, the report said, should be held to an “on-time performance” guideline, which means they have a window of arriving at their last stop no

more than five minutes late. The agency is “not that worried about service,” a source with knowledge of the internal study told the Daily News. “They just think that it’s not really that bad. They’ve convinced themselves they don’t need to worry about abysmal ‘on-time’ performance.”

In fact, the report indicated that there is a “high level of interest” among agency brass to dissolve the “on-time performance” standard from their monthly public reports. MTA interim Director Ronnie Hakim told the Daily News that she did not read the internal report and was “not go-

ing to give credibility to a report that is not a formal NYC Transit position statement.” Last week, the MTA released a six-point plan to improve its system issues and get back in the good graces of its millions of users. “We know riders are frustrated — we are too — which is why we are embracing this new plan,” Hakim said when the initiative was announced. “Increasing delays are simply unacceptable, which is why we have to commit to addressing the immediate problems with all the tools at our disposal.” Leadership reorganization, the addition of new trains, improving signals, increasing EMT and police presence in certain stations and more were among the plan’s bullet points. The MTA did not respond to a request for comment from Metro regarding the internal report.

Alamo Drafthouse to bring movies, booze and gourmet food to FiDi: Report The movie chain is set to open a 10-screen complex at 28 Liberty next year. NIKKI M. MASCALI @MetroNewYork

nikki.mascali@metro.us

Come next year, the Financial District won’t just be for moving and shaking — it’ll be for drinking, movies and gourmet food with the addition of the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, the second such theater in the neighborhood. The Alamo Drafthouse is set to become one of the tenants at 28 Liberty, the former One Chase Manhattan Plaza between Pine, Liberty, Nassau and William streets in the Financial District, the New York Post reported.

The 20-year-old Austin, Texas-based cinema chain, in which moviegoers can drink alcohol and eat gourmet fare while they enjoy fine cinema, is slated to sign a lease to bring a 10-screen, 600seat theater complex to 28 Liberty in 2018. Terms of the lease are unknown at this time, but the lease is expected to be inked sometime within the next two weeks. Rents for the 200,000-square-foot retail space are reportedly about $100 per square foot, according to the Post. In 2015, building owner Fosun International received approval to turn 200,000 square feet of 28 Liberty’s five below-ground levels into retail space. The Alamo Drafthouse will be located on the third underground level, a source

A rendering of 28 Liberty, which is set to be home to Manhattan’s first Alamo Drafthouse Cinema. 28LIBERTY.COM

told the Post, and will occupy 40,000 square feet of the now-underconstruction property. It will open just a few blocks from the South

Street Seaport, where iPic, a theater chain that also serves alcohol and gourmet food, opened last fall. 28 Liberty is a 60-sto-

ry skyscraper that is the city’s 15th tallest building. Construction, which was commenced by then-Chase Manhattan Bank president

David Rockefeller, was completed in 1961, and the public plaza surrounding it opened three years later. Alamo Drafthouse has 26 theaters across the country, including one that opened last year in Brooklyn and one in Yonkers that opened in 2013. A Staten Island location was announced back in April, and is set to open in the summer of 2019 at the Boulevard shopping center in New Dorp, SILive. com reported. Additionally, as part of the 28 Liberty’s revamping, celebrity restaurateur Danny Meyer is slated to open a new restaurant on the skyscraper’s 60th floor. Metro reached out to Alamo Drafthouse about its upcoming 28 Liberty location but has not heard back as of press time.

The scent of spray paint wafted through the air as an ordinary-looking wall in the Bronx quickly went from a blank slate to a colorful work of art designed for — and by — the very kids who will benefit the most from it. “The idea of doing something with kids is always appealing to me,” artist John “Crash” Matos told Metro as he shook a spray can during a brief respite from painting during last week’s heat. Matos and Wilfredo “Bio” Feliciano from Tats Cru, two graffiti artists who have long gone legit after cutting their teeth in New York’s infamous street-art scene back in the ’70s and ’80s, have created a vibrant mural in the private playground area of the Barrier Free

The building is a permanent, non-shelter residence for survivors of domestic violence and their families, including 91 children, many of whom attend the in-house childcare center connected to the outdoor playground. The area’s formerly white wall has been turned into a brightly colored mural with a boom box and music notes, flowers, a glasses-wearing smiley-faced emoji and more. “It engenders hope, positivity, lightness and color for the kids, who have seen a lot of darkness in their life,” said Scott Hess, director of communications for BFL. “This will brighten up their day, and it doesn’t seem so secluded or like they’re back in the shelter again,” added GiGi, the president of the building’s tenant advisory board who declined to give her last name. “They’ll see what they wanted on the wall, and it’s very important because they constantly come from where no one listens, so to actually have someone do something and listen, it means their voices are be-

A man at the scene has been identified as the probable suicide bomber, who killed at least 19 in a “serious incident” amid reports of an explosion during an Ariana Grande concert on Monday, according to reports. At least 50 people were reported injured. Witnesses reported hearing two loud bangs around 10:35 p.m. local time as Ariana Grande finished her performance. A CNN correspondent reported at least one blast occurred in a hallway outside of the arena and resulted in bedlam as concertgoers attempted to flee the venue. Shortly after the event, an emotional witness told CNN that she saw 20 or 30 bodies laying on the floor, but at the time, the number

of deaths had not been confirmed. Some deaths and injuries could have been caused by a stampede, NBC tweeted. “We were making our way out and when we were right by the door, there was a massive explosion and everybody was screaming,” Catherine Macfarlane, who was at the concert, told Reuters. “It was a huge explosion – you could feel it in your chest. It was chaotic. Everybody was running and screaming and just trying to get out.” Police are treating the incident as a terror attack until they know otherwise, but they are not confirming that the attack was indeed terror-related. Witnesses reported that many chil-

dren were at the U.S. pop star’s concert. If confirmed as a terrorism incident, it would be the deadliest attack in Britain by militants since four British Muslims killed 52 people in suicide bombings on London’s transport system in July 2005. The blast also came two and half weeks ahead of an election in which Prime Minister Theresa May is predicted by opinion polls to win a large majority. Family members are posting photos of loved ones on Twitter in the hopes that someone has been in contact and knows if they are OK. Britain is on its second-highest alert level of “severe,” meaning an attack by militants is considered highly likely. KIMBERLY M. AQUILINA

18 NEWS LEGAL Scandal-plagued Fox News hit with more lawsuits in U.S. court Fox News was hit with new sexual harassment and discrimination lawsuits on Monday, adding to the catalog of complaints that has rattled the U.S. cable news network and its corporate parent 21st Century Fox Inc. New York City lawyer Douglas Wigdor filed lawsuits in federal court in Manhattan on behalf of Kathleen Lee, a Fox News Radio shift editor who says she was sexually harassed and subjected to “unceasing retaliation” for complaining, and Naima Farrow, who maintains she was fired from her job as an accounts payable coordinator after telling supervisors she was pregnant. In a third case in the same court, Vidya Mann, a Fox News accounts receivable specialist,

said she was taken on as a temporary employee but passed over for permanent jobs in favor of white coworkers. A spokeswoman at Fox News said the company believes the suits are without merit, noting that the company took prompt action and takes all complaints of discrimination seriously. The new legal claims come as Fox News is already battling a series of lawsuits that led to the resignations of former chief executive Roger Ailes, who died last week, star anchor Bill O’Reilly and network co-president Bill Shine. Wigdor said he was also representing an unidentified black information technology employee who was subjected to racially insensitive remarks by Bob Beckel, an on-air host who was fired last week, days after the worker complained. Alcoholics Anonymous sues to recover original manuscript The original manuscript that became the basis for Alcoholics Anonymous is the subject of a new lawsuit by the organization, which wants to reclaim it before it can be auctioned next month. According to a complaint filed in New York on Monday, the working draft for AA’s basic text, known as the Big Book and describing the famous 12-step program to help people stop drinking and stay sober, is scheduled to be auctioned on June 8 by Profiles in History in Calabasas, California. But the plaintiff Alcoholics Anonymous World Services said the seller, Ken Roberts, had no right to consign the manuscript because it had been gifted to AA in 1979, though because of the “extreme negligence” of others was never turned over. AA said it learned

about the gift in 2007, three months after Roberts bought the manuscript for $992,000 at Sotheby’s, and sued after he refused its demand to turn over the manuscript rather than sell it. Profiles in History has estimated that the manuscript could fetch $2 million to $3 million. The lawsuit filed in a state court in Manhattan

names the auction house, Roberts and Questroyal Fine Art, a New York gallery that displayed the manuscript this month, as defendants. “The manuscript is an original, historical document of unique importance to AAWS, and undeniably is a critical piece of its history,” and the defendants “are wrongfully detaining

the manuscript for their own pecuniary gain,” the complaint said. Roberts and a spokeswoman for Profiles in History did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Questroyal declined to comment. The Big Book, also known as “Alcoholics Anonymous,” was written mainly by AA co-founder William Wilson, better known as “Bill W.” First published in 1939, it is in its fourth edition and has sold more than 30 million copies, according to AA’s website. The group has more than 2.1 million individual members. AA said Bill W.’s widow inherited the original manuscript after his 1971 death and gifted it to Barry Leach in 1978, who the following year gifted it back to AA upon his death, which occurred in 1985. Scarlett Johansson and Colin Jost do some heavy petting Scarlett Johansson — a woman who thinks monogamy is for suckers — was caught making out with a dude from “Saturday Night Live” the other day. The 32-year-old, who briefly starred as Ivanka Trump on the cold open for Saturday’s “SNL” finale, headed to the after party and made out with none other than “Weekend Update’s” Colin Jost. Girl, I guess. Multiple sources confirm to Page Six that the two hit it off at the boozy postfinale celebrations. Sounds to me like a classic, get drunk and make out with whoever is closest to you sort of thing, to be honest. Another

source said the pair was flirting and canoodling and can we just agree that “canoodling” is the worst word, ever? Anyway, whether this was a one-time thing, or these two will be touching mouths for months to come, kudos! We’ve all been at an after-party where the lighting is dim and romantic, and the booze is just a-flowing, and your lips come this close to someone else’s lips and you just make out. And then, some sneak who has been creeping on you goes to Page Six and tells all your business. I mean, we’ve all been there, right?

Put that divorce behind you, girl.

The best man at Pippa Middleton’s wedding was actually the worst You know how Pippa Middleton finally married her very rich beau, James Matthews, this weekend? No, I know — I was too focused on whatever was happening with Meghan Markle and The Hot Ginger Prince, too. But after all, it was Pippa’s day, so let’s give her some attention for a little while. According to E! News, the reception was the perfect opportunity for Matthew’s best man, Justin Johannsen, to make some uncomfortable bro-y jokes. Hooray! The bawdy groomsman started off by referring to 33-year-

old Pippa as the love of James’ life, deeming her “beautiful” and “energetic” and “loyal” and … “softmouthed.” He added that she “comes on command” and has a “great behind.” Oh, dear. “But that’s enough about James’ spaniel,” he quipped. “I’m here to talk about James’ love, Pippa.” Wow, this dude sounds like a nightmare! But he said some nice stuff, too. Addressing Pippa directly he said, “I think I can say for everyone, that you look stunning. The image of perfection … You make James extremely happy.” Nice, I guess!

How Bryan Cranston stays sane in the Trump age The legend says his new film “Wakefield” taps into our need to escape reality.

Looking back “Better Call Saul” has been bringing more and more “Breaking Bad” characters onto the show. Giancarlo Esposito’s Gus Fring is on it now. Do you ever feel left out of the party? No. “Breaking Bad” had such a natural beginning, middle and end to it. It felt complete to me. I was able to walk away without feeling, “Oh man, I wish we could do more. It feels like an open wound.” It really felt like it had closure to it. Most shows are canceled without being completed. But “Breaking Bad” wasn’t like that. It had a brilliant close, and I felt great about it. It was time to move on. So, no, I’m just a big fan of “Saul.” I love the show, I think it’s brilliantly done, and Bob [Odenkirk] is killing it. The look is very familiar, and yet the characters are mostly different, what’s going on is different. It’s interesting and alluring.

MATT PRIGGE @mattprigge

matt.prigge@metro.us

Bryan Cranston’s post“Breaking Bad” life has been going great. He played Lyndon B. Johnson on Broadway and won a Tony. His role in “Trumbo” received an Oscar nod. He’s co-created an Amazon show, “Sneaky Pete,” starring Giovanni Ribisi. His even popped up in the “Power Rangers” movie. Now the 61-year-old legend is in “Wakefield,” which really allows him to shine. He plays a wealthy man who whimsically decides not to go home one night. Instead, he holes up in the attic of his garage, pretending to be missing, presumed dead, all while spying on his wife (Jennifer Garner) and kids. And this goes on for months and months. Ignoring how cruel it is to abandon his family, what your character does here — drop out of society — is pretty alluring these days. This need we have to slow down or to get away, to release yourself of any kind of responsibility, has been eternal. Especially now, in

The hottest characters on the new ‘Twin Peaks’ Both Dale Coopers can get it.

Cooper and Laura Palmer in the Black Lodge

KATE MOONEY @yatinbrooklyn

kate.mooney@metro.us

The new “Twin Peaks” has arrived, and the residents are looking damn fine 25 years later. Lynch’s new take brings with it a whole new level of bizarre — and no shortage of eye candy. Based on who we’ve encountered so far in the first two episodes, here’s who’s still got it from the returning cast, and who’s looking fresh among the new arrivals. (Spoiler: not Matthew Lillard.) Dale Cooper No. 1 (Kyle MacLachlan) We’ll call him “Good Cooper,” the FBI agent we know and cherish, with boyish good looks and equal passions for cherry pie and the truth. He’s currently trapped in the Black Lodge, being a pretty good sport about having to contend with bizarro versions of

BOB-possessed Dale Cooper

Deputy Hawk, still fine.

ALL PHOTOS SHOWTIME

Laura Palmer, the onearmed man and even a deranged, sentient tree, while his Bob-possessed doppelganger wreaks havoc in the real world. We hope he gets out soon. In the meantime, just look at those kind eyes, that lovely head of hair, that chin! Dale Cooper No. 2 (MacLachlan) Bad Cooper! We’re pleased that Dale’s BOBpossessed doppelganger is more badass than scary, because we’re not sure we could handle the lat-

ter. Bad Coop is a lowlife con man with bottomless black eyes, shaggy hair, a ’70s era leather jacket — and just enough sex appeal. We’re pretty sure MacLachlan is wearing bronzer. (Yes, he’s slightly caricatured, but we’re here for it.) We’re ready for Good Coop’s emancipation from red-roomed hell, but we’ll gladly watch his villainous version strut around, seduce and set fire to everything in his path. Laura Palmer (Sheryl Lee) The show’s central victim

has returned, and while we can’t say for sure what or who she is now (“I died, yet I live,” she tells Cooper, in that slow motion, Black Lodge effect, sashaying across the patterned floor) we’re happy to lay eyes on her again, this time, not wrapped in plastic. Lee a quarter century later is still a looker, and we didn’t realize how satisfying it’d be to see her lean over and plant a kiss on Cooper’s lips, before ascending with a witchlike wail, possibly swallowed up by the red curtains forever. Long live

Laura Palmer. Deputy Hawk (Michael Horse) What a silver … hawk. Deputy Tommy “Hawk” Hill was fine as hell in the original “Twin Peaks,” and we’re pleased to report he looks exactly the same, dangly earrings and all, except now he’s rocking an exquisite silver mane. He fields calls from the Log Lady, who tells him “something’s missing,” and roams the woods, using his Native American instincts to try and find it. Go, Hawk, go.

Shelly Johnson, (Madchen Amick) Grown-up diner girl Shelly Johnson is now a total MILF. We catch her throwing back shots with her gal pals at the Roadhouse, while James (James David Greenblatt) — still creepy and annoying — can’t take his eyes off her from across the room. Where’s Bobby? We like the idea of Shelly single and free of dirtbags Leo and Bobby who both dragged her down in her early years. Free Shelly! And James, get a life.

We spend so many hours sitting in front of the computer at work, and we need pick-me-ups to keep energized throughout the day. Besides coffee, we often find a boost in the form of snacks; but opting for chips or candy from the vending machine is a caloriepacked trap we’d do best to avoid. Here are 10 healthy and delicious snacks — nutritionist approved! — that you should try instead.

Willow Jarosh and Stephanie Clarke, registered dietitians of C&J Nutrition, recommend this semisweet, healthful treat. “Chia seeds absorb up to 10 times their weight in water, which means that they provide hydration along with protein and fiber,” says Clarke. “Make a simple chia pudding with mashed banana, milk, and chia seeds and keep it in a small jar in the fridge until you’re ready to eat … or opt for a premade version like the Chia Pods from The Chia Co.”

This crunchy, proteinfilled snack makes for a great salty fix, says Kayleen St. John, director of nutrition at Euphebe. “They’re easy to make homemade — drain a can of chickpeas and dry well, toss in olive oil, salt, cayenne and paprika, bake at 400 degrees for 30 minutes or until crunchy,” she says.

Beef, turkey or chicken jerky Need an energy boost? Vitamin-B and protein is what you need, according to Rebecca Scritchfield, Washington, D.C., nutritionist and the author of “Body Kindness.” Opt for a lean-meat snack; Whole Foods sells a pack of its 365 brand organic turkey jerky for $7, and it alsos carry Krave artisanal sesame beef jerky, $6.

Peanut butter and fruit sandwich Peanut butter has the protein you need, but the sugar-packed jelly that rounds out a PB&J makes the childhood favorite a less healthy option. Instead, “spread your favorite peanut butter on a slice of whole grain bread, layer with your favorite sliced fruit (we are loving strawberries right now since they’re in season), fold in half and enjoy as a snack that delivers protein, healthy fat, and high fiber carbs,” recommends Jarosh.

Hummus and veggies

Edamame

For an afternoon nosh, try crunchy, hydrating veggies — like baby carrots, grape tomatoes, mini-cucumbers — dipped in hummus, a great source of protein and healthy fat. “Think of it as dinner one. You want something savory, and chances are you didn’t get enough veggies yet in your day,” says Scritchfield.

“Keep a bag of frozen edamame pods at work. When you need a snack, heat up a few handfuls in the microwave and snack away,” suggests St. John. “Full of fiber and protein, this snack will also keep your mind occupied while you shell the edamame pods,” she adds.

One to two squares of 85 percent dark chocolate “If you’re craving something sweet and can’t resist — go for it, but be sure to go dark,” says St. John. She recommends one or two squares of dark chocolate that “will kill that craving while providing a solid dose of antioxidants and even fiber,” she explains. “The darker it is, the less sugar and more fiber there will be — win-win.” 166 Fifth Avenue

Once a great strength, pitching is now the Mets’ biggest weakness New York’s arms have been a train wreck this season. JOE PANTORNO @JoePantorno

joseph.pantorno@metro.us

Remember when the Mets’ pitching rotation was the toast of Major League Baseball? Five young, fireballing starters, a solid setup man, and a premier closer had many predicting the Mets to rise to the top of the standings in low-scoring games. Myself, you, your neighbor and the guy yelling on television about this were all wrong. No Noah Syndergaard, no Seth Lugo, no Steven Matz and no Jeurys Familia (that premier closer) has left the Mets with a ragtag bunch of arms that are a shell of what they used to be. Through their first 42 games this season, the Mets’ pitching allowed 5.64 runs per game, most in the majors. The bullpen has been a dumpster fire and the starting pitching has been inconsistent, to say the least. New York has already experienced 25 games

Yankees bullpen shining under heavy workload The pinstripes’ relievers have stepped up in a big way over the past week. JOE PANTORNO @JoePantorno

joseph.pantorno@metro.us

Forget opposite day. It might as well be opposite year given the way things have played out during the early portions of New York’s baseball season. While the Mets’ struggles on the mound continue, the Yankees’ bullpen has been solid despite working under some difficult conditions, especially as of late. In their last 11 games entering Monday

night, the Yankees did not see a single starter get past the seventhinning point. Masahiro Tanaka was the last to do so when he spun seven together against the Cincinnati Reds on May 8. Since then, he’s only pitched a combined 4.2 innings in two starts to headline starting inconsistencies within the rotation. But the bullpen has picked up the slack greatly. In 138.2 innings entering Monday night, the Yankees’ bullpen ERA was at 2.73, thirdbest in the majors having only allowed 42 runs and a .202 batting average against. Compare that to the

crosstown Mets, whose bullpen is one of the worst in baseball with a 5.08 ERA (28th in MLB) and .271 batting average against. The Yankees have continued the success even without closer Aroldis Chapman, who has been sidelined because of rotator cuff inflammation. Six different arms have picked up the slack within the bullpen, allowing the Bronx Bombers to stay in contention:

Tyler Clippard: 1.45 ERA, 27 K’s in 18.2 innings

Chad Green: 0.00 ERA, 11 K’s in 9.1 innings

Adam Warren: 2.31 ERA, 22 K’s in 23.1 innings

Dellin Betances: 0.66 ERA, 2 saves, 25 K’s in 13.2 innings

Jonathan Holder: 1.93 ERA, 20 K’s in 18.2 innings

Chasen Shreve: 0.00 ERA, 12 K’s in 11.1 innings

On Sunday against the Rays, Green, Clippard and Betances combined for 3.3 innings of no-hit, shutout ball to secure a Yankees 3-2 win.

Dellin Betances, who is acting as closer while Aroldis Chapman recovers, has led the Yankees’ bullpen. GETTY IMAGES

But this core of relievers can only keep this kind of performance up for so long. It will be up to New York’s starters to get deeper into games to ensure these suddenly stellar arms stay fresh as baseball moves closer to summer.

Aries Take any opportunity you get to learn something new. Enlist the help of an expert to ensure that you get things done properly. Love and romance should be priorities.

Libra Money matters will be difficult to figure out. You’ll want to be prudent, but at the same time will be tempted by an offer that appeals to your sentimental side.

Taurus You’ll come up with a great idea, but before you share it with others, get the groundwork done. You’ll need help, but it’ll only come if you’ve prepared the way.

Scorpio Emotions will take control and should be channeled into something that will make your life and a relationship with someone special better. Focus on love.

Gemini Jump in and get things done. Your ability to adapt, take charge and make things happen will turn you into the go-to person. Your popularity is on the rise.

Sagittarius Engage in things that you can do with someone you find easy to collaborate with. Working as a team player will encourage you to promote your capabilities.

Cancer A partnership will suffer if you don’t do your part. Consider the best way to keep each party’s responsibilities equal if you want to avoid any change of plans.

Capricorn Time spent at home working or doing things that you have left unfinished will be most satisfying. Don’t engage in other people’s projects. Do your own thing.

Leo You’ll adapt easily to whatever comes. Take action and get things done in order to avoid an emotional standoff with someone who tends to be stubborn and critical.

Aquarius Share your feelings with someone you can help or be helped by in order to come up with a dynamite plan. Working together, you will be quite a team.

Virgo Share your thoughts and feelings if you want to get others to listen and contribute to what you are trying to accomplish. A business trip is encouraged.

Pisces Uncertainty will lead to mistakes. Ask questions, gather facts and make your move before time runs out and an opportunity is missed. Know your limits. EUGENIA LAST
