JURY SELECTED IN COSBY’S PROTEST AT MCDONALD’S FORMER TRUMP CAMPAIGN SHAREHOLDER MEETING ADVISER PAGE TO TESTIFY SEXUAL ASSAULT TRIAL

Seven men and five women, including two black jurors, will determine comedian Bill Cosby’s fate at his upcoming sexual assault trial in Pennsylvania, after claims from his lawyers that race played a factor in their selection. Judge Steven O’Neill seated the 12th and final juror on Wednesday, along with three alternates. The judge is planning to add three more alternates, likely by Thursday.

Over three days of jury selection, O’Neill grilled around 200 prospective jurors on their familiarity with the case and whether they could set aside any preconceived notions about what will be one of the highest-profile celebrity trials in recent memory. REUTERS

Hundreds of fast-food workers demanding wage increases marched on Wednesday outside of the McDonald’s Corp. headquarters in a Chicago suburb during the company’s annual shareholder meeting. The demonstrators were part of a larger nationwide protest organized by the labor group “Fight for 15,” which has regularly targeted McDonald’s calling for

higher pay and union rights for workers. Dozens of protesters also rallied outside of United Airlines shareholder meeting in downtown Chicago. “I saw my mother, who worked 30 years for Hardee’s, struggle on food stamps to raise her family and now I’m doing the same thing,” said Terrance Wise, a 42-year-old from Kansas City who was protesting outside the McDonald’s meeting. Facebook Inc has signed deals with millennialfocused news and entertainment creators Vox Media, BuzzFeed, ATTN, Group Nine Media and others to make shows for its upcoming video service, which will feature long- and short-form content with ad breaks, according to several sources familiar with the situation. Facebook is planning two tiers of video entertainment: scripted shows

with episodes of 20 to 30 minutes, which it will own, and shorter scripted and unscripted shows with episodes lasting about 5 to 10 minutes, which Facebook will not own, according to the sources. All of the sources asked to remain anonymous because the deals are confidential. Facebook’s move to acquire and license original content is the latest in its push to attract more advertising dollars. Lesbian porn is the most popular category in Boston. GETTY IMAGES

Feminist porn is popular in Boston, data shows Girls are on top in Boston’s list of most-watched porn videos, study says. ERIN TIERNAN

Bostonians may watch slightly less porn than the average American, but when they do, it’s all about the ladies, according to a new report. The number crunchers on Pornhub’s Insights team found Bostonians are 20 percent more likely to watch “female friendly” or feminist porn compared to viewers elsewhere in the U.S., according to data released in its new report on the largest U.S. cities’ appetite for porn. Feminist porn is all about gender equality in the sex industry. It doesn’t necessarily mean a specific type of porn, but it empowers women to partake in and watch any kind of porn that gets them off. Oh yeah, and no fake orgasms; feminist porn is all about real pleasure or equal pleasure for

all, if you will.

Porn searches point to city values, culture In the progressive Northeast, Boston’s rising rates of female-friendly and feminist porn watching most likely point to more women tuning in. Pornhub says searches reflect “the diverse ethnicity of cities” like Boston, New York City and Philadelphia, revealing their cultural richness in their relative search term popularity — the same logic could be applied to growing appreciation for women’s role in porn. When compared to the rest of the country, searches for “Indian” porn on the site are 220 percent more popular in New York City, “Latina” is 103 percent more popular

and “Asian” is 52 percent more popular. In Boston, “Chinese” is 173 percent more searched for than elsewhere in the U.S.

Lesbian porn is the most viewed in Boston Sticking with their penchant for the ladies, horny Bostonians watch a lot of lesbian porn, the stats revealed. The popularity of this category speaks even more to rising rates of women watching porn. A 2014 Pornhub report entitled “What Women Want” found women overwhelmingly want to watch lesbian porn, and according to more recent stats, they still do. Since studies have shown men tend to prefer categories like teen, MILF and ma-

ture, the fact that lesbian porn is top in Boston could mean women are making up a larger slice of viewers in the city. As women take a more active role in watching porn, they could be responsible for searching and watching more female-friendly and

feminist porn too The second most-searched porn star in Boston is 24-year-old Lebanese actress Mia Khalifa. Khalifa is a collegeeducated woman who’s made headlines for years with her unapologetic use of her body and her

In Boston, “Chinese” is 173 percent more searched for than elsewhere in the U.S. feminist porn. Following lesbian porn on this list of mostwatched categories on Pornhub in Boston were ebony porn and MILF porn, which proves men are still watching too.

Boston’s favorite stars are known for

affinity for calling out NFL and NBA players and other guys who try to spit game to her online. Another actress on the list, Lisa Ann, has been an outspoken critic of extreme porn and porn mimicking abuse or rape, which can be damaging for women’s mental and physical health. Ann is

now retired, but she has been lauded by feminists for speaking up about the realities of how this type of porn affects culture and society.

Boston is kinkier too, Pornhub says Where Boston did stand out though was in its penchant for kink. Bondage porn didn’t make the most-popular list for Boston viewers, but Pornhub connoisseurs certainly have a larger appetite for ropes and chains than average viewers. Pornhub says Bostonians consume 25 percent more bondage porn than other cities. Boston porn-watchers also liked to watch blowjob porn more than most of the country, clocking about 19 percent more clicks in that category.

Mark Zuckerberg is in town this week to give the commencement speech at Harvard, but before the CEO and cofounder of Facebook visited his alma mater, he and his wife, Priscilla Chan, stopped by her old high school, Quincy High, on Tuesday. Chan was born in Braintree and raised in Quincy, where she graduated from Quincy High School in 2003 as valedictorian. From there, she also went on to Harvard, where she first met and started dated Zuckerberg — but unlike the scheduled commencement speaker, Chan actually graduated from the university in 2007. She then showed up Zuck again when she went to medical school at the University of California, San Francisco. Now she’s a pediatrician and prominent philanthropist. But even after all that higher education, it seems Chan’s high school holds a special place in her heart. “I went back to high school today!â€? Chan wrote in a Facebook post. “15 years ago, I was in their very seats — nurtured in their community, challenged by classes and simultaneously nervous and excited about the future.â€? Chan mentioned that her time working in the science lab, on the robotics team and playing for the tennis team were the foundations for her success in college. “It’s wonderful to see that the same teachers and programs are build-

ing passion for learning and science in students today,â€? she wrote. “Thank you Quincy High School for nurturing generations of students and young scientists.â€? Zuckerberg also chronicled the trip in his own Facebook post, writing that the two stopped by Chan’s old high school and that “Priscilla is a legend here.â€? “[She] took every science class the school offered. When she ran out of classes, she bought a textbook and created a cancer biology class herself,â€? he wrote. “Her old teachers talk about how she looked out for them as much as they looked out for her. Even back then, they knew she was going to take care of people.â€? Chan gave some advice to the graduating seniors, Zuckerberg wrote. He noted that she was the first in her family to graduate from college and even though she excelled in high school, it still was challenging. â€œMost of the seniors we met were worried about college too. Priscilla talked about how important it is to ask for help, and how even if college feels uncomfortable at first, you’re not alone and it gets easier,â€? he wrote. “Priscilla is an amazing person. On days like today, it’s great to meet lots of other people who know that too.â€? Zuckerberg and Chan are next headed to Cambridge, where Zuckerberg will give the address at Harvard’s 366th commencement on Thursday, May 25.Â

Catcalling is sexual harassment: Here’s what to do when it happens ‘The most important thing to acknowledge about harassment is that it is unwanted.’ NIKKI M. MASCALI

Although there is no off-season for catcalling, the offensive act toward women usually ramps up this time of year as temperatures rise and summer clothes come out. As “harmless” as many may think catcalling is — after all, “What woman doesn’t want a compliment like, ‘Hey, beautiful?’” is a common question raised when a women expresses that she is uncomfortable after a catcall — it isn’t. In fact, we need to stop classifying the act as “catcalling” altogether. “The term ‘catcalling’ really does minimize what we’re talking about. It’s important for us to call it what it is — it’s harassment,” Debjani Roy, deputy director of Hollaback!, told Metro. Hollaback! is a global'

grassroots initiative to “understand harassment, ignite public conversations and develop innovative strategies to ensure

equal access to public spaces,” its website said. While street harassment is historically defined as sexual harass-

ment in public spaces, “it’s often at the intersection of other forms of discrimination including racism, homophobia,

ageism, sizeism,” Roy explained. “It is basically unwanted attention or act of a sexual nature that could start with verbal harassment, but also include nonverbal gestures, looks of intimidation, leering, being followed by one or more individuals, touching, grabbing, groping and can escalate into physical violence.” If you find yourself being harassed, Hollaback! suggests you: • Assess your safety: If you feel you may be at risk of the situation escalation, do not engage and keep moving. If you do decide to address your harasser, “don’t give an indication that you’re trying to start a conversation,” Roy said. “Oftentimes, that’s how it’s read if you do respond in any way.”

• Keep it short: Say something succinct like, “That’s not OK” or “Leave me alone.” • Make eye contact and be firm. • Quickly move away from the situation.

What to do if you see someone being harassed “The most important thing to acknowledge about harassment is that it is unwanted,” Roy said. For the person being targeted, “it can be a frightening experience,” but it is not one they should face alone. “It’s not just an individual’s responsibility to respond or protect themselves when they experience harassment — it’s a community’s responsibility to respond,” Roy said.

Massachusetts’ town meetings are ideal to build anti-corruption movement, organizers say The anti-corruption group Represent Us says it is utilizing town meetings to build local interest in what they hope will be statewide and eventually nationwide reforms. KRISTIN TOUSSAINT

When many hear the phrase “campaign finance reform,” they probably think of Bernie Sanders talking about “big money” corrupting politics during his bid to be the Democratic presidential nominee. Though Sanders didn’t win and a billionaire businessman is currently in office, the fight for reform soldiers on. Recently, an anti-corruption movement has been sweeping across the state, gaining steam through a quintessentially New England practice: town meetings. “It used to be the primary way of governing,” said Reed Schimmelfing, a spokesperson for the Western Mass. chapter of Represent Us. Though cities and some large towns no longer have town meetings, “Massachusetts has maintained the town meeting tradition quite

strongly,” he said. The resolutions call on elected officials to support the American Anti-Corruption Act and craft their own anti-corruption reform for each jurisdiction. Schimmelfing described what has so far passed as “a set of principles related to issues that need to be fixed for democracy to be on more solid footing.” “Every town that has voted has passed it,” Schimmelfing said. “People are just so excited to express an opinion about government finance and campaign reform.” If it sounds a bit vague, that’s intentional. Represent Us wants each community to define the legislation that would work best for them. But ideally, legislation would touch on public funding for elections, gerrymandering and closing the “revolving

door” when legislators, after losing or resigning, become lobbyists. People who identify as Democrats, Republicans and inbetween have supported

Represent Us, Schimmelfing said. The movement isn’t a direct response to the election, he added, but they’ve seen a more intense interest since then.

“[It’s related to] the process of the election and watching the ridiculous amount of money that was spent, the sense of Congress getting approval

ratings in the single digits, people are fed up,” he said. “They’re seeing gerrymandering happening, democracy is being laughed at, and they want to say ‘enough.’” Represent Us is a group of mostly volunteer citizens who describe the collective as the nation’s largest grassroots, nonpartisan, anti-corruption campaign. Represent Us was founded in Northhampton, Schimmelfing said, and 24 communities throughout the state, including North Shore towns like Marblehead and Nahant, the nearby (and historic) Lexington and Concord, and all the way out to Amherst, have passed the resolutions — most of them in the last month alone as annual town meetings take place.

Pope Francis urged President Donald Trump to be a peacemaker at their highly anticipated first meeting Wednesday, and Trump promised he would not forget the pontiff’s message. Under clear blue skies, Trump, who exchanged sharp words with the pope during the presidential election campaign last year, received a tribute from the Swiss Guard in a Vatican courtyard when he arrived. He entered a small elevator taking him to the third floor of the Apostolic Palace and, after a long ceremonial walk past frescoed corridors, shook the pope’s hand at the entrance to the private study, which the frugal pontiff uses only for official occasions. Before the door of the wood-lined elevator closed, a Vatican protocol official was heard quipping to the president that it was not “like Trump Tower in New York. Francis smiled faintly as he greeted Trump outside the study and was not as outgoing as he sometimes is with visiting heads of state.

Trump, seeming subdued, said “it is a great honor. Even when the two were sitting at the pope’s desk in the presence of photographers and reporters, the pope avoided the small talk that usually occurs before the media is ushered out. Both men looked far more relaxed at the end of the private meeting, with the pope smiling and joking with Trump

Things you need know for Boston Calling 2017

There’s a lot going on this year.

The annual Boston Calling Music Festival is getting a facelift for 2017, featuring a new venue at Allston’s Harvard Athletics Complex, more than a dozen food and drink options, plus a who’s who lineup of today’s top music and comedy stars. Before you head to the big Memorial Day weekend bash, here’s everything you need to know for this year’s fest.

Who’s performing? Hip-hop and R&B fans are in for treat on Friday night, as both Chance the Rapper and Beyonce’s sister Solange will perform on the main Green Stage.

Saturday night will see The 1975 and The xx rock out on the Delta Blue Stage and Xfinity Red Stage, respectively, before that night’s headlining performance by Mumford and Sons. The final day of the fest is packed with big names with Weezer, Run the Jewels, Major Lazer and Tool all set to hit the stage.

Which comedians will be there? A late addition to the festival after Natalie Portman’s curated film experience was forced to drop out, this year’s comedy lineup will take over the Complex’s indoor Bright-Landry

Friday’s festivities will feature only Massachusetts natives, as Pete Holmes, Eugene Mirman, Lamont Price and Kelly McFarland are all scheduled to perform. “The Eric Andre Show” star Hannibal Buress headlines on Saturday night before returning on Sunday to host the comedy portion of the fest with Tig Notaro serving as the final night’s headliner.

What’s available to drink and eat? The general admission area will feature more than a dozen local favorites, such as The Smoke Shop and its deli-

cious barbeque menu of pulled pork, chopped brisket and smoked chicken. El Pelon Taqueria will also be there serving up savory steak and chicken tacos and burrito bowls. Those who splurged on VIP tickets will be able to munch on special treats ranging from oysters on the half shell from the Shuck Food Truck to poke and sushi bowls from Love Art Sushi. And for platinum ticket holders, there will be a luxury food experience with menu offerings from the likes of Alden & Harlow’s Michael Scelfo.

Each stage will be accompanied by special sections designated for VIP ticket holders, while platinum ticket holders will have an area all to themselves near the Red Stage. Food, drink and merchandise stations will be lined all across the Complex, and fans can watch all the action from the top of the new Ferris wheel, located in the middle of the field.

How do you get there? While people with platinum passes will get to park at the festival, most attendees will likely have to take public transportation to Boston Calling. The Complex is just a 10-minute walk from the Harvard stop on the Red Line, and can also be accessed via the 66 and 86 buses with stops at Harvard Square. If you’re a cycling enthusiast, bicycle parking will also be available for free.

The “OITNB” star is enjoying her latest trip to Boston.

As the typically silent inmate Norma Romano, fans usually don’t get to hear Annie Golden speak on “Orange Is the New Black.” But if you find her walking the streets of Boston ahead of her new play “Ripcord,” which opens May 26 at the Calderwood Pavilion, she’s more than happy to stop for a friendly chat. The 65-year-old actress opens up about her gig with the Huntington Theatre Company, what it was like touring with her band in Boston back in the day and more.

What made you want to join “Ripcord”? We wrap [“OITNB”] around Christmastime, and we don’t start up again until the summer. As an actor, once you’re steady gig or long-running show closes or wraps for the season, then you think you’re never going to work again. When someone offers you a job for May, you totally say, “Uh, yes please.” [Director Jessica Stone] offered it to me, and I read the play in January. I thought it was absolutely charming.

Have you spent a lot of time in Boston? Before your time. I toured with my band, The Shirts, and I played Brandeis University and Boston University. I played a club behind Fenway Park in Kenmore Square called The Rathskeller … I played with The Police at The Rathskeller. They came from London. We had just toured England and we came back and we had a new record out and we played The Rathskeller while The Police were playing Boston.

Boston was always very fertile for working class artists. Have any “OITNB” fans stopped you for a selfie during your Boston stay? The kids were graduating. They were spilling out of the Berklee School of Music and it was my day off. I was walking by and this girl was with her family and she backtracked and said, “Oh my god!” Her father didn’t know what she was doing. She went, “Hi, is it you?” I said, “Hi and congratulations,”

and I winked at her. Then another girl was hugging her dad and over her shoulder she said, “Is that Norma?” I winked and said, “Congratulations, you should be very proud.” They were like, “Why is Norma Romano in Boston?” Your co-star Uzo Aduba is a Boston native. Do you have any fun behind-thescenes stories with her? We did a very gut-wrenching finale for Season 4. The fans will know, no spoilers, but it was very

emotional. Uzo does Broadway as well and I was in the scene with her. We did many, many takes and she started to get raspy and hoarse. I know, because she’s my girlfriend, what she had lined up. She was doing “The Wiz” live on TV. I took her aside and said, “Sweetheart, they have it in the can, you can’t keep wailing like this.” I gave her my breather’s lozenges and I said, “Keep it wet and suck on these. Next time they do it, sing it, don’t shout it.”

Local Real Estate Agent Guarantees to Sell Your Boston Area Home or Buy it for Cash Boston - Every month, thousands of homeowners are faced with the stressful dilemma of whether to buy first or sell first. You see, if you buy before selling, you could run the risk of owning two homes. Or, just as bad, if you sell first, you could end up homeless. It’s what insiders in the industry call the Real Estate Catch 22, and it’s an extremely anxious position to find yourself in. This financial and emotional tightrope is one you usually have to walk alone because most agents have no way of helping you with this predicament. But one local realtor is using a unique Guaranteed Sale Program which solves this dilemma. This program guarantees the sale of your present home before you take possession of your new one. If your home doesn’t sell in 120 days, they will buy it from you themselves for the previously agreed price ensuring that you never get caught in the Real Estate Catch

22. Before you hire any professional, you should research the market to find out who can do the best job for you. When interviewing agents, find out what kind of guarantee they are willing to give you with respect to the selling of your home. Unfortunately, you’ll find that most agents simply cannot make such a guarantee. To help you learn more about this program and how it can make your move less stressful, a FREE special report has been prepared entitled “How to Avoid Getting Stuck with Two Homes”. To hear a brief recorded message about how to order your FREE copy of this report call toll-free 1- 800-597-1519 and enter 1022. You can call any time, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. When Matthew Gaudet’s much-lauded Kendall Square restaurant, West Bridge, closed in 2015, the Boston restaurant scene suffered a loss. But now, with Superfine doing better than fine in Manchester-by-the-Sea, the 45-year-old chef’s recently returned to Cambridge with the brand-new Freepoint Kitchen & Cocktails. We chat with the Sudbury native about his favorite (and most delicious) seaside hangs.

Matthew Gaudet BRIAN SAMUELS

Place you recommend for out-of-towners? J.T. Farnham’s in Essex for fried clams and lobster rolls. It’s quintessential New England roadside food that does it better than anyone else. The fried clams are some of the best I’ve ever had and the lobster roll is super juicy and delicious, plus the setting out there on a marsh is equally as impressive. 88 Eastern Ave., Essex, jtfarnhams.com

Best late night meal? Peach Farm, obviously. It’s consistently good food, always exotic — they’ll literally present you with a live eel before they cook it up for you. It’s always busy and is a known chef hangout. I never know who I might run into at 2 in the morning. It’s like a little homecoming in the middle of Chinatown. 4 Tyler St., peachfarmboston.com Best hidden foodie gem? I’ve lived around the corner the corner from both the South End and Cambridge Formaggio, and both have always been my go-to spot for a quick foodie fix. I would often go there by myself just to sample cheese and snack on the jamon and butter sandwich. So simple and so delicious. 268 Shawmut Ave. and 244 Huron Ave., Cambridge; formaggiokitchen.com Best place to dine alone? A ramen joint. The last ones I went to were Santouka in Boston and Ippudo in New York City. 66 Hereford St., santoukausa.com

19

Go-to date spot? Oleana if we still lived in Cambridge. Spring if we were back in Paris. But now we head to Halibut Point in Gloucester — thickest chowder, coldest draft beers and they are great with our daughter. 289 Main St., Gloucester, halibutpointrestaurant.com Best place to catch up with friends? Fenway Park! Expensive beers, sketchy pitching staff even with the addition of Chris Sale, cheesy sing-alongs, obstructed views but still a great time! 4 Yawkey Way, boston.redsox.mlb.com/bos/ ballpark Most Instagrammable dish in town? I am too busy eating to take pictures! It’s a little tacky to pull your phone out and take the time to snap the perfect picture at a dinner table as some sort of cultural trophy when you are spending time with loved ones but if you had to, anything at Superfine photographs beautifully! Haha! 25 Union St., Manchester-bythe-Sea, superfinefood.com

You don’t need to hitch a ride with Captain Jack Sparrow aboard the Black Pearl in order to get a taste of the pirate life. Massachusetts has plenty of history with these seafaring swashbucklers thanks to the tale of the Whydah Galley, the world’s first authenticated pirate ship, which was discovered off the coast of Cape Cod. Helmed by Captain “Black Sam” Bellamy, the vessel sunk to its watery grave following a harsh storm in 1717, carrying $400 million worth of gold and silver

with it. The Whydah and its treasure were merely the stuff of legend until Bay State native and archeological explorer Barry Clifford, along with his famous frequent diving buddy John F. Kennedy Jr., located a bell engraved with the ship’s name in 1985 after spending years swimming through the shark-filled waters of the Cape for the wreckage. Today, hundreds of thousands of artifacts have been salvaged from the wreck, with many now on display at the Whydah Pirate Museum,

If that wasn’t enough, “Black Sam” will soon give Johnny Depp’s beloved bearded pirate a run for his money on the big screen, as the discovery of the Whydah is being turned into a movie by Clifford and author Casey Sherman (“The Finest Hours” and “Boston Strong”). Just in time for the fifth “Pirates of the Caribbean” movie, here are five awesome attractions you have to check out at the Whydah Pirate Museum.

HEADLINING THURSDAY-SATURDAY

Surprisingly, the lives of the Whydah crew were just as exciting as how Johnny Depp and company portray pirates on the silver screen. Prior to becoming a home to vagabond sailors, the Whydah served as a slave trading vessel until it was seized and turned into a pirate ship by a Dutch-African crewmember, a small boy, the captain and a Miskito Indian helmsman. No wonder why they want to make the Whydah tale into a movie.

There would be no Whydah Pirate Museum without the discovery of the ship’s bell in 1985 by Clifford and JFK Jr. The artifact is what allowed the Whydah wreck to earn its title as the world’s first authenticated pirate ship, as well as led to the recovery of hundreds of thousands of other previously lost items.

Linda Cardellini as Meg Rayburn in the Netflix thriller ‘Bloodline.’ The third and final season streams Friday, May 26.

The actress wades through the final season of Netflix’s thriller set in the Florida Keys. KATE MOONEY

Linda Cardellini is deep into some family drama. The “Freaks and Geeks” actress heads into the third and final season of “Bloodline,” the Islamorada, Floridaset thriller about a tightly knit family unraveling after the black sheep, Danny (Ben Mendelsohn), returns home. In her turn as daughter Meg Rayburn, the “Mad Men” alumna plays a charming, yet tightly wound lawyer, who does her part to mend the rifts in the family while wrestling

with her own demons. Since Danny met his fate, literally at the hands of the eldest son John (Kyle Chandler), in season one, siblings Meg and Kevin (Norbert Leo Butz) have tried to cover up and recover from the mess. But Season 2 closes with even more bloodshed. Heading into the show’s final 10 episodes, airing Friday, May 26, “there’s even more splintering of the family,” Cardellini tells us. “Where they were trying to survive together last season, now they’re trying to

survive on their own.” The 41-year-old actress calls in from Boston, where she’s filming the comedy “Daddy’s Home 2” alongside Mel Gibson, Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg — quite a departure from the intensity of “Bloodline.” In a way, Meg and Kevin betrayed John last season. Up until that point, at least, they were loyal to each other. That’s the fun thing about the show: It’s all about whose side you’re

us to paradise — and hell on. Because if you’re on Meg’s side or Kevin’s side, you could look at it like they were just trying to help [John] and they just kept going down this rabbit hole. For Meg, I think she really believes that she picked up the phone and helped her brother, and she didn’t kill anybody, but from an outsider’s perspective, she was very much an accomplice in everything. Where do they stand and how guilty are they? It weighs on their own moral center to figure out how they’re going to deal with it and live with themselves and with each other. Danny was the scapegoat for them for a long time, and once he was gone, everybody points to the other as the reason their life is miserable. Meg does a good bit of drinking, especially this season. What’s it like playing a lush? [Laughs] It’s always slightly

daunting, but it’s really fun, too. She’s a mess and a lot of times she has feelings she can’t really cope with, so that’s her coping mechanism. It’s been in the family for a long time; the family drinks together a lot and on

their own as well. And there are varying degrees of it, too; times when she’s just a little tipsy and other scenes where she’s just sort of out of it, she’s so wasted. It’s trying to find degrees of how drunk she is. The setting is so key to the show. What was it like ďŹ lming down there and how does the show reect the culture of the Florida Keys? The Keys are a very fascinating place. On the one hand, it has this history of people hiding out there after they do strange, nefarious things. And then it has this other part of it, this beautiful, heavenly, gorgeous, tropical paradise. Going there and being there over the past few seasons — it’s been beautiful. We’d have manatees come up to where we were living. And then it’s hot and it’s humid, and the sweat on us is all real. Living in a very sunny place and having really dark things happening ‌ it’s the swamp meets paradise meets hell. [Laughs]

Life between the waters ‘Tween Waters Inn PROVIDED

Florida’s Captiva Island will charm you with its natural splendor and laid-back fun. ED CONDRAN

Stepping onto the Captiva Island beach will have you feeling like you’re in the Caribbean — but in fact, you’re just off the mainland. The beguiling seaside getaway sits just an hour’s drive from the Southwest Florida International Airport in Fort Myers. The six-mile island stretches straight as an arrow, with a sleepy hamlet that boasts tons of character. The beaches here are more luxurious than Florida’s east coast, with powdery white sand that’s as soft as a pillow. If you’re a treasure hunter, Captiva Island is the place to be. We thought people had some posture issues, until we figured out that everyone is bent over marveling at

the gorgeous shells that line the coast. This stooping is so common that it has a name: the Captiva crouch. Sand dollars, sea glass and pretty ornate shells are ubiquitous and easy to find in the crystalclear water. That’s about the pace of life on Captiva Island. The art-lovers have Fort Lauderdale, the partiers have Miami, but those seeking a slower pace are best served by this smaller sister island to the well-known Sanibel Island. Outdoor activities are the big draw, from fishing and boating to bike riding and golf. Instead of spotting celebrities on the beach, you’re more likely to see dolphins and tons of colorful subtropical birds —

Boating is just one of the many ways to enjoy Captiva Island.

and that’s how Captiva likes it. You’ll want the right hub to experience it, and that’s the only place more chill than the beach: the ‘Tween Waters Inn Island Resort and Spa. Opened in 1931, the property spans from the turquoise

Gulf of Mexico waters to the picturesque Pine Island Sound, with 13 stunning acres of beach, where you can opt to stay in a two- or threebedroom seaside cottage. Don’t let the name fool you — the property is a hub of outdoor activity, with an Olympic-size

pool (with accompanying kids’ wading pool) and tennis courts, as well as relaxation in hot tubs and a recently remodeled day spa that overlooks the property. We were surprised to find that the hotel has its own marine biologist, hosting daily beach walks at 7 a.m. And while the day starts early, it can also go until late with full moon tours. Paddle out through the mangrove forest of Buck Key by moonlight and prepare to be taken aback by the bioluminescent schools of fish and marine life in the dark Gulf waters. If you prefer a conventional open water adventure, there are plenty of options available for booking right at

the front desk. You can fish, snorkel or take a unique ecocharter with a focus on the diversity of marine life, habitat and history of Captiva and Sanibel. The marina offering private charters is just a few steps from the ‘Tween Waters. Seafood-lovers will be well served at the Inn’s upscale Captiva House restaurant, which also offers the island’s only sushi menu. Or try the beach tapas at the Crow’s Nest, where the fish tacos are always the special featuring the day’s catch. The combination of history, luxury and laidback beach vibes makes Captiva Island and the ‘Tween Waters Inn a rare Florida vacation experience.

Try a slower pace These slow travel experiences give you a deeper and richer sense of a place.

Sometimes the best way to connect with the people, food and culture of a destination is to take it easy. Why not test new ground with one of these slow travel experiences?

Relaxed agritourismo Italy’s Umbrian countryside is known as the nation’s “green heart” and is popular for its lush rolling hills, foraged truffles and local wine. The mother-daughter duo behind Il Fontanaro puts the region’s finest delicacies quite literally at your fingertips with

their hands-on cooking and olive oil classes. Spend a full day with the culinary masters inside their kitchen kneading pasta, slow-simmering farm-fresh tomato ragu and whipping up their family recipe for tiramisu, then enjoy the fruits of your labor with an alfresco lunch.

A foodie bike trip Even the French would consider Burgundy the core of their traditional gourmet culture. A multiday bike trip through the historic province with VBT is a totally immersive experience. Highlighting the bounty of Burgundy’s farm-totable ethos, the 10-day excursion takes you along scenic canals and through ancient vineyards with stops includ-

ing a Michelin-starred dinner in Tournus and a visit to Dijon’s bustling central market.

An escape from tech These days, simplicity is truly a luxury. Ditch the modern pressures of a too-wired world and

live tech-free — for a few hours, at least — in Ohio’s Amish Country. Take a slow drive along winding back roads and stay a weekend to bask in the area’s quaint and distinct offerings: a leisurely, home-cooked Amish family meal, shopping for handcrafted furniture, and freshfrom-the-tree maple syrup tastings in the spring or apple butter in the fall. Wineries and cheese houses are also a staple in this pocket of the U.S.

Arizona’s most forwardthinking artists, jewelers and craftspeople. Plan a trip around one of its intimate special exhibits or concerts; you’ll be privy to a behind-the-scenes look at Cattle Track’s efforts to preserve and celebrate authentic Arizona heritage.

Asian river cruise One of the benefits of a river cruise is that it necessitates a smaller ship, which means fewer crowds and a more

Relaxation on rails Onboard the Belmond Royal Scotsman luxury train, you can indulge in stress-relieving spa treatments between stopovers thanks to its new Bamford Haybarn Spa. Kick back for a facial reflexology session or hot stone massage and listen as the carriage chugs melodically through the Scottish Highlands, taking you and just 35 other rail-riders to and from local landmarks like Glamis Castle and Royal Dornoch Golf Club. Journeys range from two to seven nights.

Desert air studio tour Arizona’s Cattle Track Arts Compound opened in 1936 and is still somewhat of a local secret. Tucked into a typical suburban Scottsdale neighborhood, the discreet creative enclave is home to some of

relaxed atmosphere. The Sanctuary Ananda cruises along the Irrawaddy River to showcase Myanmar’s ancient golden temples and iconic fishing villages on stilts, the grandest pagodas, palaces and monasteries, and villages and ancient towns visitors rarely see.

Walking tapas tour Sip and see your way through Spain’s rich and delicious Mediterranean

history with Devour Malaga’s Foodie Feast & Cultural Walking Tour. Dining with locals at the best under-the-radar and family-run restaurants, you’ll meet the Spanish masters behind your food, stopping at a traditional breakfast cafe, local Atarazanas market and your guide’s favorite tapas bar.

Explore protected ocean waters Kayak California’s protected ocean waters around San Luis Obispo’s Morro Bay with the aces at Central Coast Outdoors and you’ll likely spot elephant seals, sea otters and maybe even a heron or two while you paddle. The day’s tide and wildlife activity is what decides your route, but each excursion ends with a leisurely trek through the area’s famous sand dunes.

Oceanside storm watching Known for its ancient rainforest and ecological diversity (you can also surf here year-round), the list of outdoor opps in Tofino, British Columbia, is endless: kayaking, whalespotting, hiking and even storm-watching, to name a few. The latter takes place in Pacific Rim National Park, where unobstructed vistas offer prime viewing of the storms as they barrel into Vancouver Island’s rocky western shoreline.

We did this exercise last year and it created great debate. Who are the top 10 NBA players of alltime? Like last year, we’re doing this list before the NBA Finals – so some things could change. For instance, last year we had LeBron James at No. 9 on our list. Because of his otherworldly 2016 NBA Finals against the Warriors though, he jumps up a few spots this year. Here is the 2017 edition.

1. Michael Jordan Last week there was great national debate regarding whether or not LeBron was as good as Michael Jordan. In short, no. The difference has always been that Jordan gets better when he’s punched in the mouth, and LeBron does his best work when he’s ahead. LeBron is a classic frontrunner. The Celtics, who have one of the worst teams to ever appear in the Eastern Conference Finals without Isaiah Thomas, held LeBron to 11 points on Sunday night and Kyrie Irving had to bail LeBron out in Game 4. Both games were in Cleveland, mind you. Jordan was simply the most ruthless competitor in sports history and would have eviscerated this Celtics team.

The battles between Bill Russell and Wilt Chamberlain are the stuff of legend. GETTY IMAGES

In his prime, Jordan never scored less than 17 points in a playoff game and he was facing defensive juggernauts like the Knicks and Pistons.

2. Bill Russell The Wilt people were all over me last year for putting Russell ahead of him. Sorry, you can’t argue with 11 titles in 13 years. I don’t care if

there were four teams in the league at the time. He’s the greatest winner in sports history.

3. Magic Johnson For those who think I’m a homer with the Russell over Wilt pick, here’s proof that I call it right down the middle. Magic won five titles. Bird won three. That’s why he gets the edge here.

4. Larry Bird Much like Pedro Martinez, you could make the case that no player’s peak level (1986 for Bird) was ever as good. Larry Bird of 1986 could have beaten Michael Jordan of 1992, I have no doubt.

5. K. Abdul-Jabbar

Magic Johnson comes in at No. 3 on our list. GETTY IMAGES

Kareem is the league’s all-time leading scorer and won six NBA titles along the way. I thought about putting LeBron here, but Kareem still has double the rings as the so-called King.

6. LeBron James Let’s give credit where it’s due. He’s about to make it to his seventh straight NBA Finals. That is unreal. And if he duplicates what he did last year in the Finals, I’ve gotta think about putting him in the Magic-Bird range.

7. Tim Duncan Duncan hasn’t even been retired a year and I feel like some people have already forgotten how great he was. I have LeBron leap-frogging him here just because we’re seeing how great of a coach Gregg Popovich is now. LeBron never had someone as good as Popovich on the bench.

8. W. Chamberlain He averaged a ridiculous

SLEEP@APEXNEURO.COM

50.4 points per game in the 1961-62 era due the fact that he was that much bigger and stronger than every other player in the league at the time. Gotta think though that if Shaq played in the 1960s, he would have put up similar numbers. For the record, Shaq is not on this list.

9. Jerry West “The logo” made the All-Star team 14 times and led the Lakers to the Finals a LeBron-esque nine times.

10. H. Olajuwon Hakeem (he was a “snub” last year) gets the nod over Oscar Robertson this year because of something Russell Westbrook did. Westbrook

The Snubs

As is the case every time we do this, there are some notable snubs. Oscar Robertson is out of our top 10 this year after making it last year, and he didn’t do anything wrong. Kobe Bryant and Shaq both miss the cut. Julius Erving misses out, as do Steph Curry, Karl Malone and Charles Barkley.

pulled off Robertson’s famous triple-double for a whole season – which diminishes the Big O a hair. Hakeem has two rings, the Big O has just one – so it’s an Hakeem kind of year.
