FISHER HAD COCAINE, US, RUSSIA, IRAN DRAW JUDGE WANTS DETAILS MDMA AND HEROIN IN HER NEW RED LINES IN SYRIA ON SHKRELI’S FINANCES

1

The autopsy report for Carrie Fisher revealed the actress had traces of cocaine, heroin and MDMA in her system when she fell ill on a plane last year, but doctors couldn’t say how the cocktail of drugs contributed to her death. The full autopsy report, released by the coroner’s office Monday, stated Fisher may have taken cocaine within 72 hours of the Dec. 23 flight where she fell into

cardiac arrest. The 60-yearold “Star Wars” actress died four days later on Dec. 27, Reuters reported. The report followed an announcement by coroner’s officials Friday that attributed Fisher’s death to sleep apnea and other causes. ERIN TIERNAN

Russia, Iran and the United States are drawing new red lines for each other in Syria, with Moscow warning Washington it would treat any U.S.-led coalition planes in its area of operations as potential targets after the U.S. air force downed a Syrian jet. Tensions escalated on Sunday as the U.S. army brought down the jet near Raqqa and Iran launched missiles at Islamic State targets in eastern Syria — the first time each

state has carried out such actions in the multisided Syrian war. A proDamascus commander said Tehran and Washington were drawing “red lines.” Russia, like Iran an ally of President Bashar al-Assad, issued a warning of its own to the U.S. in response to the downing of the Syrian jet, saying on Monday it would view as targets any planes flying west of the Euphrates River, though it stopped short of saying it would shoot any down. Former drug company executive Martin Shkreli should reveal more about his finances if he wants his $5 million bail cut to $2 million, a Brooklyn federal judge said Monday, a week before Shkreli is set to face trial on securities fraud charges. Lawyers for Shkreli said in a court filing last week that he needed the $3 million to pay back taxes and his lawyers and accountants. Federal prosecutors

have not agreed to the request. U.S. District Judge Kiyo Matsumoto did not rule on Shkreli’s request at a hearing on Monday, but said she would be “reluctant” to release the money without knowing more about what assets Shkreli had and what he had done to liquidate them. REUTERS

U.S. student Otto Warmbier, who was imprisoned in North Korea for 17 months before being returned home in a coma less than a week ago, has died in a Cincinnati hospital, his family said in a statement on Monday. “Unfortunately, the awful torturous mistreatment our son received at the hands of the North Koreans ensured that no other outcome was possible beyond the sad one

we experienced [Monday],” the family said in a statement following Warmbier’s death at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. His family has said that Warmbier, 22, had lapsed into a coma in March 2016, shortly after he was sentenced to 15 years of hard labor in North Korea. He was arrested, according to North Korean media, for trying to steal an item bearing a propaganda slogan. KIMBERLY M. AQUILINA

New Men’s Sex Pill Makes Viagra Obsolete Scientific advance made just for older men. Works on both men’s physical ability and their desire in bed. By Harlan S. Waxman Health News Syndicate New York – If you’re like the rest of us guys over 50, you probably already know the truth… Prescription ED pills may work, but they don’t solve all the problems in the bedroom and they are very expensive. Dr. Bassam Damaj, chief scientific officer at the world famous Innovus Pharma Laboratories, explains, “As we get older, we need more help in bed. Not only does our desire fade; but erections can be soft or feeble, one of the main complaints with prescription pills. Besides, they’re expensive… costing as much as $50.00 each.” Plus, it does nothing to stimulate your brain to want sex. “I don’t care what you take; if you aren’t interested in sex, you can’t get or keep an erection. It’s physiologically impossible,” said Dr. Damaj.

MADE JUST FOR MEN OVER 50 But now, for the first time ever, there’s a pill made just for older men. It’s called Vesele®. A new pill that helps you in bed by stimulating your body and your brainwaves. So Vesele® can work even when nothing else worked before. The new men’s pill is not a drug. It’s something completely different. Because you don’t need a prescription for Vesele®, sales are exploding. The maker just can’t produce enough of it to keep up with demand. Even doctors are having a tough time getting their hands on it. So what’s all the fuss about?

The new formula takes on erectile problems with a whole new twist. It doesn’t just address the physical problems of getting older; it works on the mental part of sex too. Unlike the expensive prescriptions, the new pill stimulates your sexual brain chemistry as well, actually helping you regain the passion and burning desire you had for your partner again. So you will want sex with the hunger and stamina of a 25-year-old.

THE BRAIN CONNECTION Vesele® takes off where Viagra® only begins. Thanks to a discovery made by 3 Nobel-Prize winning scientists, Vesele® has become the first ever patented supplement to harden you and your libido. So you regain your desire as well as the ability to act on it. In a 16-week clinical study, scientists from the U.S.A. joined forces to prove Nitric Oxide’s effects on the cardio vascular system. They showed that Nitric Oxide could not only increase your ability to get an erection, it would also work on your brainwaves to stimulate your desire for sex. The results were remarkable and published in the world’s most respected medical journals.

THE SCIENCE The study asked men, 45 to 65 years old to take the main ingredient in Vesele® once a day. Then they were instructed not to change the way they eat or exercise but to take Vesele® twice a day. What happened next was remarkable. Virtually every man in the study who took Vesele® twice a day reported a huge difference in their desire for sex. In layman’s terms, they were horny again. They also experienced harder erections that lasted for almost 20 minutes. The placebo controlled group (who received sugar pills) mostly saw no difference. AN UNEXPECTED BONUS: The study results even showed an impressive increase in the energy, brainpower and memory of the participants.

“Once we saw the results we knew we had a game-changer said Dr. Damaj. We get hundreds of calls a day from people begging us for a bottle. It’s been crazy. We try to meet the crushing demand for Vesele®.”

VESELE® PASSED THE TEST “As an expert in the development of sexual dysfunction, I’ve studied the effectiveness of Nitric Oxide on the body and the brain. I’m impressed by the way it increases cerebral and penile blood flow. The result is evident in the creation of Vesele®.

New men’s pill overwhelms your senses with sexual desire as well as firmer, long-lasting erections. There’s never been anything like it before. It’s sure-fire proof that the mind/body connection is unbeatable when achieving and maintaining an erection and the results are remarkable” said Dr. Damaj.

HERE’S WHAT MEN ARE SAYING • I’m ready to go sexually and mentally. • More frequent erections at night and in the morning. • I have seen a change in sexual desire. • Typically take 1 each morning and 1 each night. Great Stamina, Great Results! • An increased intensity in orgasms. • My focus (mental) has really improved… Huge improvement. • Amazing orgasms! • I feel more confident in bed.

HOW TO GET VESELE® This is the first official public release of Vesele® since its news release. AFFOA opens Cambridge headquarters by unveiling hat that transmits audio

The innovation center unveiled two new fabric technology prototypes: a hat that transmits audio via light and a programmable, scannable backpack. KRISTIN TOUSSAINT @kristindakota

Within Advanced Functional Fabrics of America’s new Cambridge headquarters, AFFOA-emblazoned hats line tables in the product room. But these aren’t just any hats. AFFOA is a high-tech fabric innovation center, working to change what our fabrics can do for us. These hats are one of two new fabric technology prototypes AFFOA unveiled at its headquarters opening ceremony on

Monday. The first obvious thing that makes these hats unique is that they have earphones attached to them. Not attached to an audio device within the hat or a phone, but attached right to the fabric. That’s because these hats actually communicate audio to the wearer through the fabric. It’s a “world-first,” Fink said, not just because of the audio output, but because of how the hat gets that information. “It’s the world’s first fabric-based communication system that allows you to receive audio from the lights above you,” he said. That’s right, the LED lights in the ceiling transmit the audio through a technology dubbed “Fabric LiFi.” The fibers of the hat are made of a new, technological material

that can receive information from LED lights, turn it into audio and transmit it to the wearer. In AFFOA’s product room, there are 12 white dots under the floor, each under LED lights. As you put on the hat, affix the earbuds and move to stand under a light, music fills your ears. Under different lights, different audio plays. If you move away from the lights, the sound fades, and if you put your hand on the top of the hat — essentially blocking the light — the sound stops. “Sound is not directional, but the fact that you can send sounds in particular directions [like you can send light] is fascinating,” Fink said. Fink sees multiple places for this technology. First: indoor navigation. “There’s no GPS system that works inside, so

getting around and knowing where you are, and being directed inside,” he said. Second is what Fink calls “perspective-based content,” where, as you turn an object or walk around an area under different lights, you hear different audio. Third is collision avoidance, in which a vehicle’s headlights could activate the audio to alert pedestrians and cyclists. The other prototype AFFOA unveiled is a backpack produced by JanSport (an AFFOA member) and made of a “breakthrough” fabric that is programmable and scannable. Basically, users link their backpack to AFFOA’s smartphone app called “Looks” and program want information they want it to show: their name, company, a song or even a website.

New high-tech innovation center aims to create fabrics that communicate Technology has already been integrated into nearly every aspect of our lives, and now, even the fabrics on our backs will become more advanced, thanks to the new center unveiled Monday in Cambridge. MIT started Advanced Functional Fabrics of America (AFFOA) in April 2016 with more than $300 million in funding from federal and state governments, as well as academic and corporate partners. MIT won that funding as part of a national competition to create a textile manufacturing innovation institute. At AFFOA, the aim is to create “fabrics that see, hear, sense, communicate, store and convert energy, regulate temperature, monitor health and change color,” CEO Yoel Fink said. AFFOA is one of about 14 such institutes so far under Manufacturing USA, which is the national network for manufacturing innovations, and the first to be headquartered in New England. The headquarters, called a Fabric Discovery Center, is a $10 million, 25,000-square-foot, 2-story building. The space will have three main functions: to serve as a startup incubator (AFFOA already has 110 member organizations, 45 of which are startups) and provide tools and guidance to emerging companies who are developing fabric-based products; to focus on education and hands-on opportunities for students to get involved in this emerging field; and to turn ideas into functional products by creating prototypes.

SEE NO, HEAR NO Picture the scene: a room full of eager folks on the edges of their seats. Eyes wide. Ears open. Waiting to heave questions — to see how hopes, plans, dreams, vendettas and more will collide and then — nothing. No pictures. No sound. Sounds like the end of “The Sopranos,” right? But I’m describing Monday’s press briefing by the White House. In the administration’s latest peculiar take on “freedom of the press,” Team Trump decided to forbid news networks from broadcasting video and/or audio of the daily media briefing on Monday. Oh sure, press secretary Sean Spicer took some questions but allowed no one to electronically record his answers. He’s been steadily cutting back on the number, length and answers in his press briefings anyway, and he now seems to be going even deeper undercover. He defended his no cameras/no mics rule by saying President Trump had appeared on camera already that day, but there is a big difference between a photo op and a presidential press conference in which myriad, serious issues can be explored. In short, this is the leading edge of — well, if not a press blackout then a gray out. From the White House’s perspective, I get it. President Trump made it clear before he was even elected that he likes the media only when it treats him precisely as he wishes — when it praises him, fawns over his accomplishments and blindly accepts his version of the truth. He knows his most dedicated followers love it when he bashes the media. He knows public faith in what we reporters do is extremely low. In other words, he

POLITICS Lordy, there might actually be tapes of James Comey, Donald Trump conversations After President Donald Trump posted a cryptic tweet about tapes of his conversations with fired FBI Director James Comey, the words on everyone’s lips at the White House lately are, “Where are the tapes?” It’s a question journalists can’t seem to get an answer to and the White House is now referring inquiries about the existence, or nonexistence of tapes,

to Trump’s personal attorney. The Secret Service denied the agency has tapes in response to an Freedom of Information Act request by The New York Times, saying, “There are no records pertaining to your request.” But presidential historian and liberal journalist Rick Perlstein isn’t buying it. He says there should at least be tapes of any phone conversations between the president and Comey. When Trump fired Comey last month, rumors soared about

whether the president’s firing of the nation’s top law enforcement official rose to obstruction of justice — a claim for which the FBI may or may not be investigation Trump. In a hearing before the Senate Intelligence Committee that followed, Comey addressed Trump’s tweet saying, “Lordy, I hope there are tapes.” And in a video made in collaboration with Moveon. org, a progressive public policy advocacy group and political

action committee, Perlstein says there should be some. “As I understand it, every White House phone call is already recorded. That means there should exist on some server somewhere in the White House, a very thorough record of the kind of phone calls that nay investigator of the Trump campaign and the Trump White House’s ties to Russia any obstruction of justice regarding the investigation of those ties, should be able to access,” Perlstein said. You know this administration has been caught time and again making definitely false statements. You know President Trump’s approval rating among voters is stunningly low. And you know all of that because the media — for all our faults — accurately reports it. No audio or video of press briefings? Call me a cynic, but that seems like the action of a White House that has grown tired of seeing and hearing the relentless evidence of its own problems. And refusing to let the media record what you say is the first step toward denying you ever said it.

The city of Boston continues to be a champion for climate change action with a new website sharing information from the Environmental Protection Agency. Not long after President Donald Trump took office, the EPA began to remove data on climate change, including links to global warming research and data on emissions. The site, called climate changedata.boston.gov, is an official city website and a partnership with other cities across the country. “The city of Boston wishes to acknowledge and attribute this information to the United States Environmental Protection Agency and other federal agencies for the decades

But, as far as the people who were injured, it’s an absolute shame.” Then the kicker. “Fortunately the guy was a really bad shot,” she added. “Liberals can’t even shoot straight!” Oh, dear. Here’s hoping she learns her lesson soon. There are too many tragedies happening every freaking week to make light of them. a picture for the listener. It’s not always pretty, but it’s real.

Here are four ways “All Eyez on Me wound up being far from the ideal 2Pac movie:

It looks cheap “All Eyez on Me isn’t Lifetime-cheap, but it’s hard not to wince at all the cut corners: the copious stock footage inserts, the noticeably poor rear-projection car scenes, concert scenes that look like they were filmed by a rando with a smartphone. Compare and contrast with the

gorgeous “Straight Outta Compton, which had around the same budget but knew how to make it shine.

Bad writing The writing, on the other hand, is definitely Lifetime-level — superstar movie cliches, laughable dialogue. It’s the kind of biopic where characters tell our complicated hero, “You’re a walking contradiction, where white label execs praise him by saying, “You paint

It’s no “Straight Outta Compton “Straight Outta Compton had cheesy biopic scenes, too. It also had the talent and the budget to overcome them, to make you feel like you were there alongside N.W.A. “All Eyez on Me is all Cliffs Notes, compiled by a sweaty octopus. You can picture all the cooks in the kitchen, fumbling over how to cram an entire life into one movie, resulting in the depressing mess that is “All Eyez on Me.

Enjoy a picnic in the park with Davio’s The Boston restaurant wants you to soak up the sun in style.

It finally feels like summer in Boston, which means it’s the perfect time for a picturesque picnic in the park. But instead of going through the hassle of packing an outdoor meal yourself, let Davio’s do the work for you. The popular Back Bay Italian steakhouse is launching its picnic basket program on June 21 so hungry locals can enjoy a bit of fine dining along with a nice view of the city. Each basket will feature a three-course, prix-fixe meal for two prepared by Davio’s Executive Chef Eric Swartz, including two salads, two sandwiches, fresh fruit, Italian cheeses as well as a bottle of still or sparkling water. Menu choices range from fresh salad options such as mixed

greens topped with balsamic vinaigrette or baby arugula with shaved Parmigiano and lemon olive oil to chicken Parmigiana, prosciutto or caprese sandwiches. “Our gourmet picnic basket is the best way to capitalize on the beautiful summer weather

and enjoy your favorite Davio’s items outside, whether you are going down the street to Boston Common or to the Cape for a beach day,” says Steve DiFillippo, owner of Davio’s. “We make it easy for you so it’s packed with everything that you need, including a keep-

sake picnic blanket.” The picnic fare will be available Monday through Friday, between 11:30 a.m. and 10 p.m., until Aug. 31. And since the Boston Common, Public Garden and the Esplanade are all in walking distance from Davio’s, there are plenty of places nearby to soak up the sun as you munch on a luxurious feast. Each picnic for two will cost $95, however, guests will receive a $25 refund when they return their baskets to the restaurant. Make sure to call ahead of time, though, as Davio’s asks patrons to reserve their basket and blanket at least one hour in advance.

MAKE HEALTHY YOUR NEW HAPPY The Flex is the latest product innovation to help end period shaming.

Why create a disposable product?

KATE MOONEY @yatinbrooklyn

kate.mooney@metro.us

Did you know ihatetampons.com is an actual site? It’s the URL for The Flex Company, which sells disposable menstrual “discs online. The tampon alternative is the latest entry in a wave of menstrualproduct innovation, which includes “period underwear Thinx, Go Commando yoga pants by Dear Kate and breathable “oxygen-release pads To2M. The 31-year-old founder Lauren Schulte began the company in 2015 after suffering from yeast infections “from the time I got my period through my late 20s, she says. The culprit? Tampons. “I learned that cotton itself is disruptive to the pH balance of the vagina, she explains. “Since it’s organic material in a warm, dark, moist environment, it’s the perfect place for bacteria to grow. Schulte tried over 30 period products, including the most wellknown reusable menstrual cup, the DivaCup. While Schulte is an advocate for safe and effective menstrual devices — the more available on the market, the better, she believes — she found most of the cur-

menstrual cup, such as SoftCup, in its shape and placement.) She and her cofounder, Erika Jensen, former director of ecommerce for the high-end sex toy company Jimmyjane, came up with Flex. The disposable, single-use discs, which you can wear up to 12 hours, are made of FDAapproved, medical-grade polymer, which Schulte explains is a “bodysafe plastic that’s proven safe and effective in medical devices. Plus, “it’s an inert material, which means bacteria cannot grow in it, she notes. It’s BPA- and phthalate-free, without silicone and latex (common allergens). The material “uses your body heat to warm up to form

your natural shape, creating a leak-free seal, the brand explains on its site.

An eight-pack of Flex good for one cycle, $20. PROVIDED

It rests in the vaginal fornix, located at the base of the cervix, where a diaphragm goes, as opposed to sitting inside the vaginal canal like a tampon or menstrual cup. Schulte

“Changing human behavior is the most diďŹƒcult thing,â€? Schulte says. “To me, I think that Flex is a step in between a completely reusable product and classic applicator tampons, which the majority of American women use.â€? During the testing phase of Flex, Schulte gave women reusable prototypes, and while they said they loved the idea, when she checked back months later, the majority had discontinued them. She considers Flex a “stepping stoneâ€? for women to start on, and then “we can move women in the directionâ€? of reusable.

says that, coupled with the fact that it’s soft and collapsible, makes it more comfortable, with an added bonus: you can have less messy sex while you’re wearing it. While you can wear it with an IUD, Schulte advises women first consult with their doctor, because it’s possible the IUD strings could be disrupted during insertion or removal of the Flex. While Schulte envisions a future where Flex is stocked in drugstore and retailers nationwide, she says there’s still a ways to go. “This product requires a lot of education. If it’s static on a retail shelf, you’re like, ‘What is it?’ Using an internal device for the first time as a grown woman is pretty terrifying, she says. (Remember putting in a tampon for the first time?) The ultimate goal is to remove the cultural taboo and shame around menstr uation and to increase education and conversation. “I think with women’s products in general, we’re told, ‘Do this,’ or ‘Don’t do that,’ she says. “It’s women to women too, the shaming — ‘Why do you use this; why don’t you use that? I do this; this is better.’ Let’s have a conversation and be educated about what we choose. Visit ihatetampons.com for more information, and to get an eight-pack of Flex delivered for $20 monthly.

Golden State’s Klay Thompson goes in for a layup against the Celtics at TD Garden. GETTY IMAGES

THOMPSON TRADE A DREAM SCENARIO FOR CELTICS

OPINION

MATT BURKE @burke_metro

Celtics boss Danny Ainge is a master at milking the clock on the trade market. While right now it looks like the Celtics will trade the No. 3 overall pick in the draft to the Bulls in exchange for guard Jimmy Butler, another team could swoop in before the draft kicks off at 7 p.m. on Thursday. If there is a team in the NBA that does NOT have to make a move on draft night, it is the NBA champion Warriors, who currently own what is being regarded as the best roster in pro basketball history. All indications are that the Warriors will re-sign Steph Curry and Kevin Durant to new deals this summer. That would make fourth-wheel

Klay Thompson the Warriors player next up in search of a new contract. The Warriors are not in a position to panic given that they can just ride out the next two seasons with Thompson on the roster. Money is not much of a motivating factor for Thompson, who grew up pretty well to do as the son of an NBA player. The only thing that the Warriors need to worry about with Thompson is ego. In the playoffs, Thompson averaged just 15 points per game, a considerable dip from his 24.3 average the year prior. Thompson has never stopped saying the right things during his time in Oakland. He was fine being the Solange to Steph Curry’s Beyonce during the early Splash Brothers days, and he seems fine to be the fourth most recognizable player on the Warriors now.

Butler rumors heat up ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith said on “First Take” Monday that the “Celtics are planning on acquiring Jimmy Butler [from the Bulls]. They don’t know if they’ll be able to, but their hope is they’ll be able to use the No. 3 pick, get themselves Jimmy Butler, go into free agency, get Gordon Hayward.”

The Vertical’s Chris Mannix asked Thompson during the NBA Finals if he had thought about “one day being the face of another team.” Thompson shrugged, and said, “Yeah. … It’s just winning is so much fun.” Ainge could likely convince Thompson that Boston was a great fit for him in free agency considering that Thompson could “be the man” and

win as a member of the Celtics. The problem, of course, is that Thompson is not a free agent, is under contract, and it’s extremely unlikely that he’s just going to walk into Bob Myers office this summer and demand a trade. But the rumors of Thompson being the odd man out will persist so long as the Warriors remain a juggernaut. ESPN’s Zach Lowe wrote last week about the Warriors’ future situation and that “no team has ever paid anything like [what the Warriors would have to pay to retain all of their stars]. “The Warriors almost certainly won’t [pay all four],” Lowe wrote. “The only way out is to trade one star. Thompson would seem like the likeliest candidate.”

It’s a longshot Much like the pipe dream of landing

Anthony Davis, the Celtics would be best advised to wait in trying to swing a Thompson trade. But given everything we’ve heard in the past few days regarding a potential Celtics trade, it seems that Ainge is done waiting. There are big names to be had, but

none of them of them are perfect. Paul George is hellbent on going to the Lakers next summer and could wind up as a one-year rental, and it’s very much up for debate on whether or not Butler is a bona fide superstar (i.e., a top-15 player).

Moreland has been a force for Red Sox The veteran first baseman has provided some relief since the loss of David Ortiz. MATT BURKE @burke_metro

matthew.burke@metro.us

Each World Series-winning Red Sox team since 2004 has had some unexpected players step up in key spots and has had an unlikely veteran or two have a career year. If the 2017 Red Sox go on to championship glory, Mitch Moreland will be remembered as this team’s Bill Mueller, Mike Lowell or Shane Victorino. Moreland, who is 31 years old and spent the first seven years of his MLB career with the Rangers in Texas, is tied with Andrew Benintendi, Mookie Betts and Hanley Ramirez for the team

lead in home runs on the season as they each own nine. He also has 36 RBIs on the year, and is on pace to smash both of those individual season

marks. That’s not to say that Moreland was useless in Texas. Far from it, actually. In 2013, 2015 and 2016 he belted over 20 hom-

ers and he had an 85-RBI campaign in 2015. What has separated Moreland from the pack this season is his propensity for hitting doubles.

MEDICAL RESEARCH

The lefty loves pulling the ball to right field at Fenway where the ball can bounce around in the outfield. This season Moreland already has 18

two-baggers, which is fifth best in the American League. The doubles high for an individual season in his career is 27 in 2015, a mark he should easily surpass this season. “[Hitting doubles] is not something I’m really concentrating on, I guess, but when I go to the plate I’m trying to keep it as simple as possible and get a good pitch to hit and try to get the barrel to it,” Moreland said. “If they go for doubles I’ll take them all day long.” Moreland broke a Red Sox franchise record earlier this season by hitting doubles in seven straight games. David Ortiz, Jason Varitek and Bill Regan all shared the previous record of six. Moreland is also tied with Mookie Betts for the most walks on the team with 31 and he has the best on-base percentage on the team, getting on .382 percent of the time.
