President Donald Trump on Thursday said he did not make and does not possess any tapes of his conversations with former FBI Director James Comey, laying to rest speculation that arose after he tweeted last month that Comey better hope there were no tapes. “With all of the recently reported electronic surveillance, intercepts, unmasking and illegal leaking of information, I have no idea whether there

are ‘tapes’ or recordings of my conversations with James Comey, but I did not make, and do not have, any such recordings,” Trump wrote on Twitter.

Minnesota’s government and businesses will continue to engage with Cuba in the areas they can, like agricultural trade, despite U.S. President Donald Trump’s partial rollback of the detente, Lt. Gov. Tina Smith said on Thursday. The first U.S. state representative to make an official visit to Communist-run Cuba since Trump’s announcement on Friday, Smith said authorities there

were worried about the setback to bilateral relations.Leading a bipartisan trade delegation from Minnesota, she said she was therefore glad to carry the message that there was still plenty of support for continuing to normalize relations. “There is no denying the actions Trump took last Friday are a real setback,” Smith, a Democrat, said in an interview in the gardens of Havana’s iconic Hotel Nacional.

Former Manhattan U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara, who earned a reputation for fighting crime on Wall Street and public corruption before President Donald Trump fired him in March, has signed a book deal with Alfred A. Knopf. The book, as yet untitled, is about “the search for justice, not just in criminal cases but in life and society in general,” Knopf said in a statement on Thursday. Publication

is expected in January 2019. Bharara said his book would be about the law, “integrity, leadership, decision making, and moral reasoning.” “It addresses what it means to do the right thing, how to avoid doing the wrong thing, and the role of thoughtfulness in making the best choice,” Bharara said in a statement.

AMAZON TO CHARGE $2.8M FOR NFL AD PACKAGES

Amazon.com Inc. is looking to charge advertisers $2.8 million for packages that include 30-second spots during the Thursday night National Football League games it will stream live to its Prime customers this coming season, two people familiar with the matter told Reuters. The offering will be closely watched by the advertising and broadcasting industries as the world’s largest online retailer and cloud-

computing company makes its first high-profile push into live sports. Amazon is paying $50 million to the NFL to stream this season’s 10 Thursday night games, sources told Reuters in April. The games will be shown simultaneously on either CBS Corp. or Comcast Corp.’s NBC, which are broadcasting five games each. Amazon takes over from Twitter Inc., which paid $10 million to stream Thursday night games last season.

Finding sanctuary in new geodesic dome The latest addition to public art in Philly is a massive geodesic dome. SAM NEWHOUSE @scnewhouse

sam.newhouse@metro.us

If you need to take a break from the sunrays in Center City, you might want to pop by the giant geodesic dome recently installed at 11th and Locust streets. There are hammocks and nooks to hang in, and the entire project, “Toward Sanctuary,” is encouraging city dwellers to share their thoughts about how Philadelphia can offer sanctuary toward marginalized citizens. “We hope people [do] not just walk through, but sit for a moment and have a conversation with someone they’ve never met before,” said Acorn Swiggum, a cultural artist who worked on the project. The work is part of a larger series of works called “Philadelphia Assembled.” The dome, titled “Toward Sanctuary,” has a sign inside begging the question, “How can Phil-

adelphia become a true sanctuary?” This project is intended to compile acts of “resilience, resistance and community building” by collecting ideas and stories from the people who visit. It takes the concept of a sanctuary, often understood in relation to Philly’s controversial immigration policies, a step further. “We call ourselves a sanctuary and tell our police officers not to cooperate with ICE [Immigrations Customs & Enforcement], but there are so many other forms of sanctuary that need to be created,” said project coordinator Phoebe Bachman, mentioning LGBT youth, sex workers and drug users as groups who struggle to find safe places. There are corners to draw or write in, pillows for people to sit on and origami cranes constructed at Broad Street Ministry containing messages from clients and residents there. Sanctuary stewards trained in “radical hospitality” are welcoming people and encouraging them to participate in the project. “People tend to be really delighted by the space,” Swiggum said. “It’s a place to be received and hosted. You can sit in the corner and hang out, but there are also people to be there with and enjoy it with you.” The larger dome and its interior were designed by artists Mayyadah Alhumssi and Lynda Grace and built with artists from the Traction Company. This dome and other elements of Philadelphia Assembled will be exhibited at the Philadelphia Museum of Art’s Perelman Building in September. The dome is open Tuesday to Sunday, 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., through July 8.

City Controller: Philly threw millions in the trash There is no evidence the city saved any money from investing in hightech trash cans.

Since 2009, Philadelphia has spent more than $6.5 million on solarpowered BigBelly Trash Compactor trash cans, located throughout the city, but City Controller Alan Butkovitz said Thursday that the city might have just as well

thrown the money away. In 2009, his office questioned the city’s purchase of 800 of the trash-compacting trash cans, which were touted as a way to save the city money on collections, as trash trucks wouldn’t have to collect as often — since these compacted trash — and each of the $3,700 BigBelly units was supposed to communicate with the Streets Department to let drivers know when they were full. But, he said, there is no evidence that the city saved any money from these units. Then, seven years after the city first purchased these units, Philadelphia bought another 300 of them. Still, he said, in the years they have been installed on sidewalks across Philadelphia, the city hasn’t been able to provide any info that these units saved any money at all versus standard wire trashcans, which cost about $100 a piece. “None of this was true in 2010,” said Butkovitz of claims initially made about the Bigbelly devices saving taxpayer money. “And, none of it is true now.” In fact, Butkovitz said that not only did these solar-power trash compactors waste $6.5 million of taxpayer money for their purchase, they continue to waste money by having to be replaced when they break. And broken or malfunctioning units, he said, take cleanup crews longer to

empty than a standard trash can does. Members of Butkovitz’s office have been documenting issues they have seen with BigBelly trash compactors throughout the city. They have released a video of their findings, to show some examples of the issues that, Butkovitz said, are apparent throughout the system. In fact, according to Butkovitz’s office, over just a two-day period, one-third of all the BigBelly trash compactors investigators encountered were not working correctly. Overall, Butkovitz said, the BigBelly trash system is “practically useless,” claiming the city purchased expensive, high-tech equipment and wasted the devices by not properly monitoring the system and not utilizing the technology. “This was touted as a high-tech cost savings,” said the city controller. “But, we’d like it monitored to know [if] that’s true.” However, some of Butkovitz’s concerns could be addressed immediately. Also on Thursday, the City Council was set to vote on a bill that would allow the city to generate a profit from BigBelly trash compactors through ads and would allow the Philadelphia Municipal Authority to take over maintenance costs of the units. Results of that vote were not immediately available.

Senate healthcare bill: Everything you need to know Low- and middleincome Americans will pay more. ERIN TIERNAN @ErinTiernan

erin.tiernan@metro.us

Senate Republicans revealed their secretive healthcare bill Thursday, unveiling a plan that would impose deep cuts to Medicaid, try to defund abortion providers like Planned Parenthood and scale back tax credits for low- and middle-income Americans while slashing taxes on the nation’s wealthiest citizens. Thursday’s unveiling of the bill that was written entirely behind closed doors is the first time Senate Democrats and much of the GOP conference have had a chance to take a look at the healthcarereform bill, titled the “Better Care Reconciliation Act of 2017.” Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is pushing for a vote by the end of next week — which won’t give Senate Democrats who were snubbed during the drafting process much time to review the 142page bill. To pass, the bill needs only a simple majority, which means McConnell can’t lose more than two seats on the GOP side. In the event of a 50-50 tie, Vice President Mike Pence will cast the deciding vote. Here’s a look at some of the major tenets of the Senate’s healthcare bill: It eliminates the individual insurance mandate. The Obamacare mandate requiring individuals to purchase insurance would be eliminated under the Senate Republicans’ healthcare plan. There are tax credits, but there’s a catch. To help people afford insurance, the Senate bill proposes incomebased tax credits that

are slightly less generous than what is currently offered under Obamacare. This is a change from the House healthcare bill, which proposed age-based tax credits that estimates said could cause premiums for older Americans to rise more than 700 percent — plan aims to make sure older Americans aren’t penalized. The Senate plan would make tax credits available for anyone earning up to 350 percent of the poverty level — about $86,000 a year for a family of four. The Obamacare cap was 400 percent — about $98,000 a year for a family of four. The credits would be capped at a lower percentage of overall medical costs than those under Obamacare. It cuts Medicaid – a lot. Starting in 2020, millions of people would be rolled off of Medicaid, the federally funded health insurance program for low-income Americans. The bill plans to wind down the Obamacare expansion which extended benefits to people making 138 percent of the federal poverty limit — about $34,000 a year for a family of four. Those people would be tossed back into the individual insurance market where they would be eligible for tax credits, though they would no longer be mandated to purchase insurance.

The bill has Medicaid work requirements. Low-income Americans still eligible to receive Medicaid could face work requirements. The bill would allow states to create provisions requiring people to maintain employment in order to keep their benefits. The provision would not apply to students, pregnant women or the disabled. Taxes for the wealthy are slashed A 3.8 percent tax on investment income for people earning more than $200,000 a year would be repealed under the Senate healthcare plan, meaning taxes would fall predominantly for a small percentage of very wealthy Americans. It offers no funds for abortions. The bill would effectively defund Planned Parenthood, as it bars any funding allocated under the healthcare bill to be given to providers that offer abortion. Plans purchased using funding from the bill would not cover abortions under the bill. It establishes one-time grants to fight the opioid crisis. The bill would create a one-time $2 billion fund for state programs that “support substanceuse disorder treatment and recovery support services for individuals with mental or substance-use disorders.”

President Trump ‘just doesn’t want a poor person’ in his cabinet President Donald Trump said he’d prefer not to have a “poor person” in top economic positions in his administration during a 2020 campaign rally on Wednesday. Despite campaign promises to “drain the swamp” of special and elitist interests in politics, since taking office in January, Trump has amassed one of the wealthiest Cabinets in the country’s history. His explanation? “I love all people, rich or poor, but in those particular positions, I just don’t want a poor person. Does that make sense?” Trump asked a cheering crowd at the rally in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Trump told supporters he would consider a “poor person” for such roles, if his supporters insisted.

“But I like it better this way,” he said. Trump picked billionaire Wilbur Ross, who made a fortune buying up distressed companies, as commerce secretary, and appointed Todd Ricketts, a member of the billionaire family that owns the Chi-

cago Cubs, as his deputy. “Somebody said, ‘Why did you appoint a rich person to be in charge of the economy?’ No, it’s true. And Wilbur’s a very rich person in charge of commerce,” Trump said. “I said, ‘Because that’s the kind of thinking we want.’” The Trump cabinet has been padded with the likes of Betsy DeVos, the billionaire education secretary, and — despite vocal condemnations of Hillary Clinton’s ties to the Wall Street banks on the 2016 presidential campaign trail — Trump appointed former Goldman Sachs executive Steven Mnuchin as treasury secretary and picked former Goldman Sachs President Gary Cohn as one of his chief economic advisers. THE FUN STARTS HERE TH

For Alison Brie, ‘GLOW’ is a dream come true wknd Alison Brie gives you ’80s wrestling luxury as Ruth in “GLOWâ€? on Netix. ERICA PARISE/NETFLIX

The actress takes on her first leading role. RACHAEL VAUGHAN CLEMMONS @rachaelclemz

rachael.clemmons@metro.us

If you run into Alison Brie, ask her to show you her sweet wrestling moves. “A lot of people want me to pull these moves out as a party trick, says Brie. “I’m just a pro-wrestler now. That’s not too far from the truth. The actress is starring in Netflix’s latest series, “GLOW, which follows the personal and professional lives of a ragtag group of misfit women transforming themselves into the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling. It’s a delicious trip to the ’80s, and Brie, who plays Ruth, is right at the center. “I really felt like a team captain, she says over the phone,

upbeat. “I wanted to really prove myself while working on the role. It’s Brie’s first go at leading a television show. And the 34-year-old — who is perhaps most popular for her roles in “Mad Men as Trudy Campbell and “Community as Annie Edison — fought damn hard for it. “I was told kind of early on that people weren’t sure if I was quite right for the part, she says. “You audition for certain things and you’re like, ‘Oh, this would be a cool job, but I don’t know if I’m quite right for this part.’ And there are other things that I read and it’s immediately like, ‘This is my role!’ [‘GLOW’ was] one of those. Premiering Friday, we’ll get to see her as a bona fide wrestler babe. One that discovered pretty early on that wrestling

is a bit more, let’s say, intimate than other sports. “The first bigger move that I learned for the show is the headscissor. And learning the headscissor [my stunt double] was like, ‘Basically you want your vagina to hit [your opponent’s] chin, and that’s how you know you’re in the right position. If you feel contact, you did it right.’ We were like ‘Oh!’ She laughs, hard. “‘Great!’ And even though she doesn’t do party tricks yet, she has taken her new moves on the road. “I did put Larry King in a headlock [a few] days ago, and that was kind of cool, she says. Brie’s quick to assure though, it wasn’t hardcore. “It was a very gentle headlock. Even outside showing Larry King her wrestling prowess, the Los Angeles native can’t be stopped.

The actress was recently cast in “The Papers, a film to be directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep. “I’m just as shocked, trust me! she says, in disbelief. Plus, “The Little Hours, (“This is the most difficult movie to describe. Raunchy medieval nun comedy?) is coming later this m o n t h , and “BoJack Horseman later this year. She’s enthusiastic about the return of the animated series, which sees her voicing Diane Nguyen, the rare human in an anthropomorphic world. “This is so rude to Diane, but given her behavior, I almost GETTY

want to see her as a sloth, Brie says. “She’s deadpan a lot of the time, and she

has gone through periods of not knowing what — Brie starts talking slowly, imitating whatever it is a sloth might sound like — “she wants to dooo. She laughs again. “It’s not a perfect fit, but you know! But for now, “GLOW — with its imminent release and near-constant press — is her main focus. “It was really a dream come true, she says. “It sounds so boring, but I was just grateful and excited. And more than anything, I just wanted to do a really do a good job. For what it’s worth, Brie is anything but boring. She’s warm, she has a quick wit and — as she’s mentioned many, many times — she’s grateful. “There’s nothing more fun than working on a comedy and getting to laugh with everyone, she says. Good thing “GLOW is a riot.

Give “Transformers: The Last Knightâ€? credit: It opens with King Arthur. This summer’s other lumbering, endless ďŹ vequel, the latest “Pirates of the Caribbean,â€? simply began with some more ships. From stem to stern, “The Last Knightâ€? is the rantings of a madman, even for a franchise that once featured a robot with wrecking ball-sized testes. Within its ďŹ rst minutes, we’ll see a drunk Merlin (Stanley Tucci!). Leter, there will be a ashback to Nazi Germany,

Marky Mark will paraphrase Arthur C. Clarke and Michael Bay will solve the mystery of Stonehenge. All that, and a robot voiced by Jim Carter of “Downton Abbeyâ€? quoting Ludacris while Anthony Hopkins chuckles, too. Bay’s “Transformersâ€? movies have always come o like a fratboy playing with toys, but “The Last Knightâ€? is nextlevel, white-hot nonsense. It has more plot than usual, some of it followable, all of it deranged. The gubmint has declared war on Transformers, falsely painting them as all bad. Maybe you think this

down their batshit ideas for the next “Transformers, threw those ideas into the air, then Scotch-taped them together at random. Combined, the “Transformers cycle now runs longer than Jacques Rivette’s 12-hour epic “Out 1, only it’s considerably less fun. But we’d be lying if we said this last one wasn’t gripping, even if it’s gripping the same way our president’s Twitter feed is gripping. If nothing else, it’s not boring — until its bulldozer climax of CGI vomit, which really doesn’t make any sense, and not in a good-bad way. MATT PRIGGE

Is “The Hero Sam Elliott-proof? Very nearly! It’s pure male fantasy — an old man’s fantasy, to be exact, in which a 70-ish dude, among other things, gets to bed a 30-something. The catch? He’s played by Elliott, in one of the god’s too few lead performances. Everything about him makes what should be noxious (if beautifully made) go down easy: that nicotine-stained baritone; those sad eyes; that charming smile. It’s like a so-so novel whose audio book version is read by one of the world’s great voices, lulling you into thinking it’s good. The content almost sounds like it should be as strong as Elliott’s performance. He plays Lee Hayden, basically Sam Elliott if his career hadn’t had the same turns. He gets a ton of voicework, too. He’s even known for a classic ’70s Western. But that’s all he’s

known for. Where the real-life Elliott is married to Katharine Ross — that’s right, Elaine from “The Graduateâ€? didn’t run o with either Benjamin Braddock or the fraternity “makeout king,â€? but Sam Elliott — Lee has an ex-wife and an estranged daughter (Krysten Ritter). He also just discovered he has cancer. As Lee’s luck changes — including stumbling into that MayDecember romance (with Laura Prepon) — “The Heroâ€? threatens to turn eye-rolling, sappy. But Elliott always reins it back in. His every expression reveals a long history of hurt. Elliott gives “The Heroâ€? the soul its schematic script wishes it had. Even what should be a cornball moment — Lee calling a cancer-treatment center and being moved to tears by the dramatic hold music — could make a stone cry. See it for Sam. If nothing else, hearing his voice for an entire movie will do your ears good. MP

‘Carnivolution’ returns to Powelton Village The carnival and circus sideshows of the past are given new life.

One of the most unique performances in Philadelphia will be carrying on without its mentor for the first time on Friday. As they say, the show must go on. For over 13 years, Squidling Bros., the colorful minds behind “Carnivolution,” used their show to bring the captivating sights of old carnival sideshows to life. While it has been performed at many locations around the city — and even around the country — its home base was the Ellen Powell Tiberino Memorial Museum in Powelton Village. Artist and museum curator Joseph Tiberino, who founded the museum in honor of his late wife, invited the troupe into the property’s backyard

in 2004 to do “whatever they wanted.” The June 23 show will be the first “Carnivolution” event since Joseph Tiberino passed away in February. Despite the absence of perhaps its biggest fan, the man who gave the event its home, there is no doubt that “Carnivolution” will nevertheless

amaze audiences. The spirit of carnival sideshows is apparent in the event, with performers doing everything from stepping onto broken glass to Hula-Hooping to spinning fiery batons. Not for the faint of heart, audiences are only a few feet away from the action at all times, enhancing

the experience. “The story is told through puppetry, aerial acrobatics, pyrotechnics and circus sideshow with sketch comedy and live music mixed in,” co-founder and lead performer Eric Broomfield explains. “Some of my favorite moments have included

Matterz Squidling being buried in broken glass, the first time Jellyboy swallowed a rifle during the show, trapeze acts from a tree and Great Grandma Madoodi singing ‘Peggy,’” he says. As Broomfield’s memories may reveal, “Carnivolution” is not a random smattering of circus

acts, but rather has an ongoing storyline. Needless to say, the storyline is just as colorful and off-thewall as the show itself. “Currently, the Squidling Bros. are transitioning to the dimension of the Goddess of Ulana Abadod. With the power of the Kidney Stone we attempt to open up a star gate under the water, a water gate,” says Bloomfield. Past storyline arcs have included everything from space travel to a postapocalyptic Philadelphia being taken over by the Revengers, a CIA superhero group.

Something about the neighborhood blocks in Philadelphia is a little different than anywhere else, and Molestice is evidence of that. The free annual block-party music festival June 24 celebrates the summer solstice on the 100 block of North Mole Street. Everyone is invited for an eclectic mix of music, craft beers, all-ages activities and Philly food-truck favorites. Brendan Walsh, cofounder of Mole Street Artists and a resident of the block, says there is a story of community here. “It’s been around since the 1830s, and it’s one of the only preserved

residential blocks in that area. It’s got an old feel, he notes. Philadelphia, a city long recognized for its music, has one of the biggest music festivals in the country with Made in America. But Walsh wanted to build more on what he now calls home. Last year, the festival hosted over 1,500 people and, according to Walsh, people are coming from all over. “Our real mission

behind it these days is to give free music access to any and all Philadelphians, he adds. “We feel like our gift to the city is an authentic music experience. Here’s a peek at some of the music lineup:

76ers make Fultz second No. 1 pick in two offseasons

As expected, the Sixers tagged Markelle Fultz as the next integral piece of their infamous “Process. EVAN MACY @evan_macy

evan.macy@metro.us

The Process continued Thursday night, as the Sam Hinkie-inspired rebuild of the 76ers — a historic exercise in burning it all down to build it back — reached a milestone adding a second straight No. 1 overall pick. Markelle Fultz joins the Sixers after being taken No. 1 overall, technically passed over by the Celtics who traded

the first pick in the draft Philly’s way after a trade earlier this week. Fultz averaged 23.2 points, 5.9 assists and 5.7 rebounds per game during one season with the University of Washington and has been touted as the best player in the draft class by several scouts. Philly gave Fultz the nod in part due to his ability to score and run an offense, and in part for the perfect fit he’ll likely find playing alongside franchise staples Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons, last year’s top draft choice. The trio could be the core of the next championship team in Philly, and Fultz — who hails from Maryland — is buying into “The Process. The city of Philadelphia

has already responded, as the team has reportedly already sold more than 14,000 season tickets, the most of any season in team history. The Sixers are starting a waiting list for those still interested in getting a season slate of seats. Fultz is coming into a situation where he can shine and create something from the bottom up. “Embiid and them,

coming out, it just shows how good of teammates they’re going to be if I get chance to go there, Fultz told the media after a work out with the team Saturday. “It was just fun to have them come out. It just made it a little bit better, just knowing that it wasn’t just all of the organization seeing me. It

was some of the coaches and stuff like that. So, it was cool. When Fultz was asked by media members this week when the Sixers would start winning again, he replied “as soon as I get there. The Lakers pick followed Philly’s and, as expected, they selected

UCLA’s Lonzo Ball. He’ll run point for L.A. after the team shipped De’Angelo Russell to Brooklyn earlier this week. At the third spot the Celtics went for the raw talent of Jayson Tatum, who slowly ascended draft boards en route to last year’s top-seeded team in the east in Boston.

The Eagles secondary has been subject of much chatter around NFL circles — and among fans — due to their inability to field a group of workable cornerbacks over recent team history. With a youthful infusion on the way in rookies Rasul Douglas, Sidney Jones and secondyear player Jalen Mills expected to provide some stability at the position, it is easy to overlook the other half of the secondary — one that has been a beacon of consistency and leadership. Ever since Malcolm Jenkins came to Philly from New Orleans, the safety position has been a strength for the Birds. And after last year’s addition of Rodney McLeod, the Eagles sport one of the most formidable safety tandems in the NFL, entering Year 2 together. A pair of Pro Bowl seasons from the safeties is not out of the question. “We see the game the same, McLeod, a 26-year-old former Ram, said of Jenkins during

minicamp. “It’s helping my game out a lot when I can just go back to him and ask him what he sees on certain plays and pick his game. That’s one of the reasons I came over. It got better from Year 1 to Year 2 and it will only get better as we continue to play and get a feel for one another. McLeod had three interceptions and a sack last year, the most of his NFL career. He also had 83 tackles, another season high. His play brought out the best in Jenkins

as well, who returned two interceptions for touchdowns last year whole adding 72 tackles of his own More impressive than the individual production is the fact that the two are extremely versitile — an important attribute in the NFL in 2017. “This spring, we’ve been able to add a few new tricks to our sleeves,â€? Jenkins said. “The interchangeability we have, the ability to see the game the same way and then communicate it to the defense is big. It’s a lot less on my shoulders and both of us have taken that next step in our maturation process and in our relationship as a tandem, and I am excited for it.â€? The pair are the leaders of the defense both vocally and by example. And they are two peas in a pod in the locker room, too. “The relationship is strong,â€? McLeod said. “We trust each other and when both of us are on our ‘A-game,’ it’s pretty much unstopable.â€? EVAN MACY

On-the-fence players attempting to make it onto Flyers’ roster

There could be some very tight and exciting battles for roster spots as the Flyers prepare for the upcoming season. ERIC GOLDSTEIN @EricEsponda sports@metro.us

The Flyers, along with the rest of the NHL teams, debuted their new jersey for the upcoming season on Tuesday night. Beginning this year, Adidas will be producing and manufacturing them instead of Reebok. Fortunately, the Flyers jersey remained the same. Now, the more pressing question surrounding the “new” jersey is who will be wearing it this fall. Following Wednesday night’s release of the Expansion Draft, we now know that Pierre-Edouard

camp will likely decide their fate.

Bellemare will not after being selected by the Las Vegas Golden Knights. The Flyers lost one of their alternate captains — he was named one after alternate captain Mark Streit was dealt to the Lightning at the trade deadline — and penaltykill specialist. Here are the players who we are unsure of whether they will wear a Flyers, Phantom or another organization’s jersey this season.:

2Jordan Weal

The unrestricted free agent has been in negotiations with the Flyers. According to reports, the team and the center have agreed on the length of a deal but are not square on the money yet. If Weal, who scored eight goals in 23 games last year, does not sign with the Flyers by July 1, he will be free to negotiate with any NHL team.

Patrick or 1Nolan Nico Hischier

One of the two will be selected by the Flyers Friday night with the second overall pick in the NHL Entry Draft. Scouts and experts are split on whether either one will play in the NHL right away. Some say they both need some more season-

and Hischier can make an immediate impact in the league. No matter who the Flyers pick, their performance at training

ing in juniors, and Flyers GM Ron Hextall is typically a fan of not rushing kids into the NHL. Others are confident Patrick

The Flyers protected the rookie netminder in the expansion draft — and exposed veteran goalie Michal Neuvirth — but that still does not guarantee him a spot on the roster this season. Coach Dave Hakstol was impressed with Stolarz’s small sample

size last year but was not ready declare him the backup yet. Plus, there are rumors that Stolarz could also be used as trade bait this summer. So, he could be with the Flyers, Phantoms or even another organization.

Hagg/ 4 5Robert Sam Morin ,

The two defensemen each made their NHL debuts — albeit one game — late last year. With Nick Schultz and Michael Del Zotto leaving via free agency and Streit’s departure in March, the Flyers have openings on the blue line. They’d love to see one, or both, kids earn a job out of training camp. However, don’t be shocked if Hextall signs one or two veteran defensemen in free agency as competition or an insurance policy.

Virgo Discover what life has to offer. Network with people who share your interests to find inspiration to develop new relationships and expand your dreams.

Pisces Making home improvements or hosting an event is highlighted. If you use imagination, you will come up with an idea that will please the people you love. EUGENIA LAST
