TRUMP GROWING COSBY: NO PLANS FOR FRUSTRATED WITH CHINA SEXUAL ASSAULT TOUR
NYT: KUSHNER HIRES PROMINENT TRIAL LAWYER

President Donald Trump is growing increasingly frustrated with China over its inaction on North Korea and bilateral trade issues and is now considering possible trade actions against Beijing, three senior administration officials told Reuters. The officials said Trump was impatient with China and was looking at a range of options, including tariffs on steel imports, which Commerce
Secretary Wilbur Ross already has said he is considering as part of a national security study of the U.S. steel industry. Whether Trump would actually take any steps against China remains unclear.

Bill Cosby said on Tuesday he has no plans to hold town hall events to discuss sexual assault, days after his spokesman suggested the comedian planned a series of public talks to educate men about how to avoid false accusations. Cosby’s spokesman, Andrew Wyatt, first put forward the idea for the town hall talks in an interview with a Birmingham, Alabama, TV station last week, five days after
Cosby’s sex assault trial ended in a hung jury. The proposal drew immediate criticism from a lawyer representing some of the dozens of women who have leveled sex assault accusations at the 79-yearold entertainer, whose long career was built on a family-friendly style of comedy. “The current propaganda that I am going to conduct a sexual assault tour is false,” Cosby said in a statement released by Wyatt on Tuesday.

President Donald Trump’s son-in-law and adviser, Jared Kushner, has hired a prominent trial lawyer to help represent him in inquiries linked to Russia, The New York Times reported on Monday citing another member of his legal team. Kushner took on Abbe D. Lowell, the newspaper said, joining other senior administration figures including U.S. At-
torney General Jeff Sessions, Vice President Mike Pence and Trump himself in hiring private attorneys. The White House has come under increased scrutiny since Department of Justice Special Counsel Robert Mueller and a number of congressional committees launched investigations into whether there were ties between Russia and Trump’s 2016 election campaign team.

FACEBOOK HITS 2 BILLION-USER MARK
5
Facebook Inc. said on Tuesday that 2 billion people are regularly using its flagship service, marching past another milestone in its growth from a college curiosity in the United States to the world’s largest social media network. Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg disclosed the number to his followers in a Facebook post. “It’s an honor to be on this journey with you,” he wrote. The user base is bigger than
the population of any single country, and of six of the seven continents. It represents more than a quarter of the world’s 7.5 billion people. Facebook defines a monthly active user as a registered Facebook user who logged in and visited Facebook through its website or a mobile device, or used its Messenger app, in the past 30 days. It does not include people who use the Instagram or WhatsApp networks but not Facebook.

Facing revolt on healthcare bill, Senate Republicans delay vote The legislation would repeal major elements of Obamacare and shrink the Medicaid government healthcare program for the poor. Facing a potentially disastrous defeat by members of his own party, U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell on Tuesday delayed a vote on healthcare legislation that has been a top Republican priority as he scrambled to win more support. President Donald Trump summoned all 52 Republican senators to the White House on Tuesday afternoon to discuss how to proceed after party leaders failed to win over a small band of holdouts. “We’re going to talk, and we’re going to see what we can do. We’re getting very close,” Trump told senators as the meeting began. Sen. McConnell had been pushing for a vote ahead of the July 4 recess that starts at the end of the week. McConnell, whose party has a razor-thin majority in the 100-member Senate, told reporters that Republican leaders were still working to get the 50 votes needed to pass the bill. Vice President Mike Pence could provide the crucial vote needed to break a tie. McConnell said the White House was anxious to help write legislation that could pass the Senate. “We’re going to press on,” McConnell said after he announced the delay in the vote, saying that leaders would keep working to make senators feel “comfortable” with the bill. “We’re optimistic we’re going to get to a result that is better than the status quo.”
While the House of Representatives narrowly passed a measure last month to replace Obamacare, the Senate version faces concerns from both moderate and conservative Republicans, as well as united Democratic opposition. Moderate Republicans worried that millions of people would lose their insurance. Conservatives said the bill does not do enough to erase Obamacare. The bill’s prospects were not helped by a Congressional Budget Office analysis on Monday saying the measure would cause 22 million Americans to lose insurance over the next decade, although it would reduce the federal deficit by $321 billion. The report prompted Senator Susan Collins, a key Republican moderate, to say she could not support the bill as it stands. At least four conservative Republican senators said they were still opposed after the CBO analysis. Three more Republicans, Rob Portman of Ohio, Jerry Moran of Kansas and Shelley Moore Capito of West Virginia, said after the delay was announced that they opposed the current draft of the legislation. Portman and Capito cited the bill’s Medicaid provisions and how that would impact efforts to combat the opioid epidemic that has taken a heavy toll in both their states. “I think giving time to digest is a good thing,” said Sen. Bob Corker after the delay was announced. “I think that some of the issues that people have raised, that are heartfelt issues, to their own families, we exacerbated by the way the bill is constructed, and I think there’s a way to overcome that.” REUTERS

Kizomba, a hot trend in Europe, is making its way slowly to Philly, as most trends do. CASSIE HEPLER @MetroPhilly letters@metro.us
You must let the man lead. Learning to let go of control is probably the hardest lesson I learned in Kizomba class. Through a long trail of Latin dance lovers in the Philly community, I was led to the lovely Ekaterina Lezhava of EKA Dance Academy in the Northeast. Kizomba is the newest trend, hot in Europe and making its way slowly to Philly, as most trends do. Kizomba means “party” and is a popular genre of dance and music evolution originating in Angola, southern Africa. Kizomba music has a slow and usually very romantic rhythm. My first Kizomba dance lesson was over a month ago when I met Lezhava, who goes by “Eka,” a very warm and personable woman from Soviet Georgia with over 32 years of dance experience. There are three types of kizomba dancing: traditional, romantic and sensual, she explained. We would be learning the basics and technical aspects. First, we learned how to step each leg in place with small steps — barely any movement and slightly moving our feet off the ground. “Like a robot,” Eka said in her Russian accent. The key is staying straight instead of dramatically swaying your hips like the Latin salsa I learned in college or bachata, the Dominican Republic social dance style I dabbled in recently. We rotated, taking
turns with Eka as the male lead and a dance friend Raul who smelled like men’s cologne and mint gum. We learned a side turn she called tick tock. “Gather your legs,” Eka said. “If you slide your feet, you will never step on his toes.” Tarraxinha, or as I call it, the “backward twerk,” is where the woman tightens her abs, bends her knees, does squats then repeats in reverse, which is way more complicated than it sounds and was quite an ab workout. Men do it too, but it’s more subtle because they are so boxy. Wearing the right shoes is as important as watching yourself in those studio mirrors. “Flats are fine, but midsize heels are best with front support. Men can wear most dress shoes,” Eka said. Kizomba can be danced with only four or five moves, yet mastery lies in the subtle movements and the lead/follow connection. Some of those movements include steps like the lady saida (walking back for two counts and then crossing your leg over to the left of the man for the next three) and gentleman’s saida (where the man pushes you back with his chest) as well as the three-step basic and shuffle (like a cha-cha). Somehow I am now on Kizomba class No. 5, after Eka urged me to keep coming to class every Sunday at noon, going to a Latin dance pool party this summer and possibly attending a Latin dance conference in D.C. in the fall. The Latin dance community in Philly is addictive, inclusive and exciting, and I am hooked. See you on the dance floor! To learn more about EKA Dance Academy, visit ekadanceacademy.com/.

Some would-be immigrants left in limbo after Supreme Court travel ban order
BUSINESS Fed’s Yellen expects no new ďŹ nancial crisis in ‘our lifetimes’ U.S. Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen said on Tuesday that she does not believe that there will be another ďŹ nancial crisis for at least as long as she lives, thanks largely to reforms of the banking system since the 2007-09 crash. “Would I say there will never, ever be another ďŹ nancial crisis?â€? Yellen said at a questionand-answer event in London. “You know probably that would be going too far but I do
think we’re much safer and I hope that it will not be in our lifetimes and I don’t believe it will be,â€? she said. Yellen said it would “not be a good thingâ€? if reforms of the ďŹ nancial services industry since the crisis were unwound, and urged those who had helped manage the fallout at the time to be vocal in preventing such a dilution. President Donald Trump has said during his election campaign that he would cut
banking regulation. The U.S. Treasury Department earlier this month proposed easing up on restrictions big banks now face in their trading operations. Yellen declined to comment when asked about her relationship with Trump but said she had a good working relationship with U.S. Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin. She also reiterated her view that the U.S. central bank would continue to raise interest rates only gradually.
“We think it will be appropriate for the attainment of our goals to raise interest rates very gradually to levels that are likely to remain quite low, although there is uncertainty about this, to remain low by historical standards for a long time, she said. Asked about share price valuations by a member of the audience, Yellen said “by standard metrics, some asset valuations look high but there’s no certainty about that. Many advocates for immigrants say they are hopeful that the vast majority of people from the six targeted countries applying for U.S. visas will qualify for such exemptions. GETTY IMAGES
Without close family in the United States, Elly and her husband had few options for getting permission to immigrate to America from Iran. So when they won a U.S. government lottery last September for a so-called “diversity visa allowing them to resettle in the United States, the couple was thrilled. “Since last year, we made all the important decisions in our lives because we hoped we would get a visa, Elly said, declining to give her full name because her visa application is still in process. The couple decided to put off having children and purchasing a home until after their move to the United States. But the visa, which they still hope to get, is still being processed. Their attorney provided Reuters email documentation of their application to verify some of their account. Elly and her husband are two of the many people who fall into gray areas created by Monday’s U.S. Supreme Court order allowing parts of Donald Trump’s travel ban to take effect. While the court said it would exempt travelers from the ban who have “bona fide relationships with Americans, the ruling did not specify exactly
what that means, leaving would-be travelers from the six countries affected by the ban uncertain whether they will be allowed to enter the United States. In its ruling, the Supreme Court said Trump’s blanket 90-day ban on travelers from Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen could proceed, but only for foreigners with no “bona fide relationship with an American person or entity. The court gave examples of what might qualify some travelers for exemptions from the ban, including close family ties in the United States, admittance to a U.S. university, or offers of employment from an American company. But the ruling leaves some things vague, and has led to confusion and anxiety for those like Elly and her husband, who had hoped to come to the United States but do not fall into one of the clear exemptions laid out in the ruling. Also in the gray area are such things as travel strictly for tourism or to attend conferences. Would-be travelers are also asking how close family members need to be, and whether traveling to see close friends in America might qualify. REUTERS

Jellied sea creatures confound scientists and fishermen on the Pacific Coast
No relation to jellyfish, they resemble bumpy, opaque pickles in the water, typically a few centimeters or inches long, though some grow 1 or 2 feet in length.
Drifting throngs of jellylike, glowing organisms native to tropical seas far from shore have invaded Pacific coastal waters from Southern California to the Gulf of Alaska this year, baffling researchers and frustrating fishing crews. Known as pyrosomes, they are tubular colonies of hundreds or thousands of tiny creatures called zooids, enmeshed together in a gelatinous tunic roughly the consistency of gummy bear candy. They feed by filtering microscopic algae, or phy-

Greek for “fire body. Pyrosomes have rarely if ever been seen along the West Coast until 2012,
when first spotted in California waters. Since then, they have gradually multiplied and spread north, before exploding in numbers this spring, according to scientists with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Although harmless to humans, they have been
especially troublesome to the commercial salmon catch in Oregon, with large globs of the rubbery critters clogging fishing gear by the thousands in recent months. Some have even washed ashore. “It gets to a point where they’re so abundant, you can’t even fish
out there, so you have to pick up your gear and move elsewhere, Nancy Fitzpatrick, executive director of the Oregon Salmon Commission, said Monday. A single five-minute trawl with a research net by scientists off the Columbia River in late May scooped up roughly 60,000 pyrosomes, NOAA reported. Fishermen were also hit in southeastern Alaska, where some crews suspended operations earlier this year when pyrosome densities were at their height, said Aaron Bald-
win, a fishery biologist for the Alaska Department of Fish and Game. “There were clouds of them in the water, he said. Karen Johnson, who fishes for halibut and tracks pyrosome reports on her Facebook page in Sitka, Alaska, said she has personally seen them glowing in a bucket of live specimens caught by her brother. “I stuck them in a dark room, and moved the water a little bit, and sure enough, they were bioluminescent, she told Reuters. U.S. says it saw preparations for possible Syria chemical attack Pentagon spokesman Capt. Jeff Davis said activity had been identified recently at Shayrat airfield, the same base targeted by a U.S. cruise-missile strike April 6.
Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has previously said the Khan Sheikhoun incident was fabricated. GETTY IMAGES
A U.S. warning to Syria’s leadership against staging a chemical weapons attack was based on intelligence about what appeared to be active preparations at a Syrian airfield used for such an attack in April, U.S. officials said Tuesday. Russia, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s main international backer, denounced the warning and dismissed White House assertions that a strike was being prepared as “unacceptable,” raising the tension between Washington and Moscow over
the Syrian civil war. “This involved specific aircraft in a specific hangar, both of which we know to be associated with chemical weapons use,” Davis said. Davis said the activity occurred during “the past day or two.” He did not say how the United States collected its intelligence. The White House said Monday it appeared the Syrian government was preparing for another chemical weapons attack and warned Assad that he and his military would “pay a heavy price” if it went ahead. The U.S. strike on Shayrat followed the deaths of 87 people in what Washington said was a poison gas attack in rebel-held territory two days earlier. Syria denied it carried out the attack. Russia challenged the
U.S. intelligence about a possible attack. “I am not aware of any information about a threat that chemical weapons can be used,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said during a conference call with reporters on Tuesday. “Certainly, we consider such threats to the legitimate leadership of the Syrian Arab Republic unacceptable.” Russian officials have privately described the war in Syria as the biggest source of tension between Moscow and Washington, and the April cruise missile strike ordered by U.S. President Donald Trump raised the risk of confrontation between them. Assad visited a Russian air base at Hmeymim in western Syria on Tuesday, his first visit to the base from which Russian jets
have supported his war effort. Photos circulated showed the Syrian leader in the cockpit of a Russian Sukhoi SU-35 warplane, and inspecting weapons, personnel and armored vehicles at the base near Latakia.
U.S. warning The Syrian military and foreign ministry did not comment on the White House warning, although a Syrian staterun television station, al-Ikhbariya, said the allegations were fabricated. U.S. Senator Bob Corker, Republican chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, said the concerns about preparations for a chemical weapons attack were authentic. “The claims that they made, from my perspective, are valid claims,” he said. A ransomware attack spread across Europe and affected firms in Ukraine, Britain and Spain. GETTY IMAGES
Ransomware virus hits computer servers across the globe Cyber security experts said those behind the attack appeared to have exploited the same type of hacking tool used in the WannaCry ransomware attack that infected hundreds of thousands of computers in May before a British researcher created a kill-switch. A ransomware attack hit computers across the world on Tuesday, taking out servers at Russia’s biggest oil company, disrupting operations at Ukrainian banks, and shutting down computers at multinational shipping and advertising firms. “It’s like WannaCry all over again,” said Mikko Hypponen, chief research officer with Helsinki-based cyber security firm F-Secure. He said he expected the outbreak to spread in the Americas as workers turned on vulnerable machines, allowing the virus to attack. “This
could hit the USA pretty bad,” he said. The Department of Homeland Security said it was monitoring reports of cyberattacks around the world and coordinating with other countries. The first reports of organizations being hit emerged from Russia and Ukraine, but the impact quickly spread westward to computers in Romania, the Netherlands, Norway and Britain. Within hours, the attack had gone global. Danish shipping giant A.P. Moller-Maersk, which handles one out of seven containers shipped globally, said the attack had caused outages at its computer systems across the world on Tuesday, including at its terminal in Los Angeles. Pharmaceutical company Merck & Co. said its computer network had been affected by the global hack. A Swiss government agency also reported computer systems were affected in India, though the country’s cyber security agency said it had yet to receive any reports of attacks. After the WannaCry

attack, organizations around the globe were advised to beef up IT security. “Unfortunately, businesses are still not ready and currently more than 80 companies are affected,” said Nikolay Grebennikov, vice president for R&D at data protection firm Acronis. One of the victims of Tuesday’s cyberattack, a Ukrainian media company, said its computers were blocked and it had a demand for $300 worth of the Bitcoin crypto-currency to restore access to its files. “If you see this text, then your files are no longer accessible, because they have been encrypted. Perhaps you are busy looking for a way to recover your files, but don’t waste your time. Nobody can recover your files without our decryption service,” the message said, according to a screenshot posted by Ukraine’s Channel 24. The same message appeared on computers at Maersk offices in Rotterdam and at businesses affected in Norway. Other companies that said they had been hit by a cyberattack included Russian oil producer Rosneft, French construction materials firm Saint-Gobain and the world’s biggest advertising agency, WPP — though it was not clear if their problems were caused by the same virus. Miranda Kerr loves herself some jewelry
Serena & Alexis’ rom-com-worthy meet cute Vanity Fair, a publication obsessed with having naked pregnant celebrity ladies on the cover, has the oral history of how the “seemingly mismatched” — their words — pairing of Serena Williams and fiance Alexis Ohanian came to be. The year was 2015. The month was May. The place? Rome, duh. At the Cavalieri Hotel, Williams and her mini entourage of three sat down to order breakfast. Then Ohanian came down to have breakfast too, and sat down at the table next to Serena — even though many, many other tables were free. Sounds like a nightmare, right? “We were trying to get him to move and get out of there,” said Williams, embodying “Mean Girls,” and basically saying, “You can’t sit with us!” And then, Serena said the
GOSSIP
Former born-again virgin and Australian model Miranda Kerr has handed over $8.1 million worth of jewelry that U.S. authorities say was given to her as part of a Malaysian money laundering scheme. Oh dear. Apparently, Kerr, 34, was gifted the jewelry in 2014 by Jho Low, a financier and maybe former flame — who is embroiled in a corruption scandal that’s taken over the Malaysian government. The jewelry was allegedly purchased with stolen government money. I will never understand why people with means do the most. Kerr follows Leonardo
DiCaprio’s lead — the actor and perpetual man-child recently turned over $3.2 million worth of artwork gifted to him by Jho Low. This is sad, because basically it looks like this Jho Low character was just trying to convince celebrities to be his friends (or girlfriend!) through elaborate gifts. You don’t got to pay for friends, man.

Mike Tyson loves ‘The Notebook,’ too
BOTH PHOTOS INSTAGRAM/
Mike Tyson — former heavyweight champion, who, never forget, once bit off Evander Holyfield’s ear — has a confession to make. And that confession is that he loves Noah and Allie’s tale as much as you do. Yeah, I’m talking about “The Notebook,” a weepy film brought to us by trash novelist Nicholas Sparks, that later spawned a great deal of movies about white people in rural parts of America falling in love. I mean, “The Longest Ride”? Come on. Anyway, Tyson took part in a
@KIMKARDASHIAN
questionnaire with Uproxx, and there are some gems. He loves Migos! If he had to choose between cats and dogs, he’d choose tigers! And he can’t resist watching “The Notebook” whenever it’s on. And who can blame him? Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams give the best performances of their damn lives! What other uh, “romantic” movies are up Tyson’s alley? He doesn’t say, but I’m guessing Tyson’s Netflix homepage says he likes movies with a strong female lead.
Good luck with living, Sushi.
In utterly fascinating news, Kim Kardashian has decided on a name for daughter North West’s new puppy. Exciting! On June 17, the 36-year-old revealed that she had gotten sister puppies for North and her niece Penelope — daughter of Kourtney Kardashian and Scott Disick. “Penelope named hers honey,” she wrote on her Instagram. “What should we name ours?”
This question proved difficult for the “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” star. So on Tuesday, she pleaded with her Twitter followers to help. Names are hard! She made a poll with North’s final four: Baby Jesus, Peachy Pop aka Peaches, Sushi and Goldie. I, like almost everyone else, voted for Peachy Pop. But apparently, Kardashian never wanted anybody’s opinion in the first place.
“FYI the puppy’s name is Sushi,” she wrote early Tuesday morning. Well thanks for telling us our opinions don’t mean s—, Kim! Here’s hoping Sushi will fare better than Kim’s other pets — she once had a dog named Dolce, but he was mysteriously killed by a coyote, and she’s admitted to “not being the biggest animal person.” Yikes!

12 FILM
Reasons ‘Baby Driver’ is the summer’s best big movie Arriving like the cavalry to save the depressingly franchise-heavy season, the latest from Edgar Wright stars Ansel Elgort as a young getaway driver who’s also an ear-buds-addicted audiophile. Here are five ways the movie, out today, goes against the modern blockbuster grain to come out on top. MATT PRIGGE
1 It’s the rare action-comedy that works
Action and comedy are two great things that, we’d argue, rarely go well together. Ramp up the comedy, and suddenly we’re not taking the action seriously; ramp up the action, and suddenly things aren’t so funny anymore. Edgar Wright has always been more about comedy than action; “Hot Fuzzâ€? is a loving action parody whose genuinely thrilling moments are framed by giant quotation marks. With “Baby Driver,â€? he loses those quotation marks. But amazingly, the comedy still hurts. His action scenes are visceral rushes, but they also ďŹ nd time for visual gags. And it gets to the heart of what makes action, when done right, so thrilling: We’re laughing because we’re excited.
It’s by a real director 2allowed to do his thing
Jamie Foxx is no fan of getaway motorist Ansel Elgort in Edgar Wright’s “Baby Driver. COLUMBIA PICTURES
3 It has a killer soundtrack
Recently, “21 Jump Streetâ€? and “The Lego Movieâ€? directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller were ďŹ red from the Han Solo spin-o movie for being too them. Let’s hope they make like Edgar Wright, who four years ago walked o “Ant-Manâ€? due to creative dierences with Marvel. The movie he made instead, “Baby Driver,â€? is 100 percent uncut Edgar Wright. It’s ďŹ lled with all the things he loves, quick with a joke and quick with action. In other words, it feels like it was made by one particular person. This is the ďŹ lm you’d show to today’s studio execs when you tell them that giving ďŹ lmmakers ďŹ nal cut is not something you forbid.
One of “Drivers’â€? main hooks is that Elgort’s Baby insists on doing his getaway gigs with his ear buds in, cranking up a carefully selected song timed right down to the second. And so we get The Damned. T. Rex. Dave Brubeck. Barry White. Boards of Canada. Deep-cut Blur. This doesn’t only make the scenes more exciting; it gives each one its own air, its own personality. Even when Wright uses a song for nonchasescene purposes — as when Baby irts with a diner waitress (Lily James) by playing her Beck’s “Debraâ€? — the moment is transcendent. Sound is something few viewer’s pay attention to, but Wright forces you to listen.

4 It doesn’t play nice
Movies are way too nice these days. “Baby Driverâ€? isn’t always nice. It has a good heart, with a likable lead; Baby only wants to get out of the crime business, but they (or at least a kingpin played by Kevin Spacey) keep pulling him back in. His attempts to get out for good, with his new lady friend in tow, isn’t easy. It involves ďŹ ghting Spacey, as well as fellow criminals, including a hothead (Jamie Foxx) and a cokehead played by a winningly against-type Jon Hamm. There are unexpected deaths; there are shocking plot twists. It’s the kind of movie big studio execs would ruin through too many notes. But Wright didn’t make this for a big studio.

5 It doesn’t need a sequel
It’s depressing to talk about movies this way — that we even have to address the possibility of spin-os and sequels and franchises. It cheapens a ďŹ lm that stands on its own just ďŹ ne. It also reminds us how few big movies these days are rewatchable. Instead, most Marvel movies are forgettable, to be replaced by some forthcoming sequel or fellow Cinematic Universe entry. So much of their running times are eaten up with setting up future installments or following up on plot threads planted in previous outings. They live primarily in the past or the future; they rarely live in the present. “Baby Driverâ€? is all about the present, and it’s so jam-packed with goodness that it does what all truly great movies do: It makes us want to see it again as soon as possible.

Debi Mazar says ‘Younger’ is too white The veteran actress talks Season 4 of the TV Land comedy.
Kellyanne Conway, she’s like Kristin Chenoweth. The reason “Younger” is a success is because it’s not about politics. We don’t need anything more about politics. If you want that, turn CNN on. [Younger] is light, refreshing fun.

Debi Mazar is the spitfire that shakes up every production. The 52-year-old actress, who you might know as Vincent Chase’s blunt publicist Shauna on “Entourage,” or Henry Hill’s smart-mouthed, coke-snorting girlfriend Sandy in “Goodfellas,” brings her signature attitude and charm to the role of Maggie on “Younger.” On the TV Land comedy, filmed in Brooklyn’s glorified Williamsburg, the NYC native plays Liza’s (Sutton Foster) best friend and roommate, an older, lesbian artist, probably the only real grownup on the show. Although it was Maggie’s idea that Liza lie about her age (40, not 26) to get her job in
How is the Brooklyn depicted in the show different from the Brooklyn that you know? I don’t live the Brooklyn life that’s on the show. I’m not a hipster, I’m a mom. I stay home, I run my errands, I see my friends. On the show I get to do that. They’ll say, “You’re not in the next two scenes,” so I’ll get two hours in Williamsburg. I take myself out for lunch, I go to little

publishing, Mazar says it was a necessary fib. “You gotta hustle in life. It’s New York,” she explains. “[Liza] has a teenager in college! She’s got a deadbeat ex-husband who gambled away the money. She’s trying to get a job. Who cares if she lies?” When we chat, the Windsor Terrace resident is headed to Ireland to film the “Younger”
Season 4 finale. She lets us in on the fact that it’s going to be “dramatic”: At the close of Season 3, Liza came clean about her real age to her other bestie, Kelsey (Hilary Duff), and Season 4, out tonight, is about the repercussions. “The truth’s coming out,” Mazar says. “Liza’s been spinning her little web, and things are starting to unravel.”
This season, the Kellyanne Conwayesque pundit (Kristin Chenoweth) is pitching a book that’s basically about alternative facts. Is “Younger” getting political? Not at all. She’s not like

shops. I feel like I’m on location in a different country, almost. [Laughs] What makes “Younger” relatable? What women tell me is that they’ve been through exactly the same thing. They took some time off or had kids and then tried to come back to work. It’s an experience that I as an actress have somewhat felt in aging, but I have always managed to work. I’m like, “OK, I can’t be bitter.” I keep my chin up and say, “F— everybody, I’m gonna own it and figure it out.” I think some of my best roles are yet to come. This show is very pro-women. I’d like to see more color in the show, quite frankly, but [my character] seems to have affairs with mostly black and Latin women, so I’m responsible for bringing some color. [Laughs] Season 4 of “Younger” premieres Wednesday, June 28 at 10 p.m. on TV Land.

Washington Square West Camac Street is one of the Philly’s most idyllic streets, complete with historic houses and cobblestone. NEAL SANTOS FOR VISIT PHILADELPHIA
Cobbled streets meet buzzing nightlife in this eclectic neighborhood. LILY WILLIAMS @MetroPhilly letters@metro.us
From quaint pedestrian alleys straight out of the 18th century to the bustling sidewalk cafes of Midtown Village, Washington Square West — bounded by Seventh and Broad, Chestnut and South streets — is a neighborhood that blends the best of old and new. Stephen Ferguson of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices, Fox & Roach Realtors says Washington Square West residents have it all. They can enjoy the neighborhood’s quintessential charm just steps from boutique shopping and trendy restaurants and bars. In contrast to Rittenhouse Square’s “more intense, dramatic and energetic hustle, Ferguson describes Washington Square as “idyllic, a peaceful cocoon amidst the bustle of the city. While some people hunt here for their first house, new residents tend to be more advanced buyers who are looking for a lifestyle upgrade, like a shorter commute or more amenities. Buying in Washington Square West “is more than just about
brick and mortar, Ferguson confides. “It’s an opportunity to own a piece of Philadelphia history. And history is important here. Washington Square West is home to America’s oldest theater — Walnut Street Theatre — and its first public hospital, founded by Ben Franklin in 1751. Even the park for which the neighborhood is named was part of William Penn’s original design for his “greene country towne. While the neighborhood’s residential quarter retains a sense of timelessness, its business districts have undergone a metamorphosis over the past decade and now thrum with 21st-century vibrancy. The staid antique shops that once dotted Pine Street have largely given way in favor of stores selling stylish home design and fashion. And a tidal
wave of urban renewal transformed 13th Street south of Chestnut from a seedy stretch of peep shows, check-cashing businesses and empty lots into one of the city’s hippest districts. Informally dubbed the Gayborhood, this area is also a destination for anyone seeking LGBT-friendly establishments. Stalwarts like Woody’s and Tavern on Camac (don’t miss the nightly piano bar) are now joined by newcomers like Boxers, a gay sports bar. Jason Evenchik, who owns local hot spots like Time, contends that the neighborhood’s vitality is due, in large part, to its diversity and tolerance. “When I look at my clientele, I see lawyers, hairdressers and bartenders; gay and straight; black and white. They’re a microcosm of the city itself, diverse and open-minded.

Eagles may have struck gold with rookie Gerry The Eagles have gotten fruitful results from their decision to move Nate Gerry from safety to linebacker — so far. EVAN MACY @evan_macy
evan.macy@metro.us
The Eagles took the second best safety in college football in the fifth round of April’s NFL Draft and have been playing him at linebacker this spring. In one of the final reps of mandatory minicamp Thursday Nate Gerry, a rookie from Nebraska (the only Cornhusker taken in the draft), made a leaping off balance interception off of Carson Wentz and darted past the rest of his teammates in a seven-on-seven drill
to the end zone. The positional switch could turn out to be a brilliant move by the Eagles front office. “I think right now I am trying to get comfortable with a new position change and understand the new scheme,” Gerry said recently, packing his locker up for a five-week escape from the NovaCare Complex before training camp starts on July 24. “Each day I feel more comfortable. I feel like I get back to my old, self making plays and today was one of those days.” Playing linebacker professionally after playing safety in college so well is a difficult leap for an athlete to make. But pursuing an NFL dream will lead a young man to do whatever it takes to succeed. “Right now I am trying to soak everything

Coming from South Dakota, not a lot of kids get a chance to do this.” He has help, with his locker right in between those of Mychal Kendricks and Nigel Bradham, each stepping up to help mentor the young linebacker prospect. “I think Nigel and Mike have helped me the most they are both veteran guys,” Gerry said. “They have been here and have done it. Free agents 76ers should be targeting The Sixers need to find shooting and veteran leadership in a free agent this offseason. EVAN MACY @evan_macy
evan.macy@metro.us
The Sixers have money to spend and a playoff spot to chase this season. With a young and highpotential core in tow with Joel Embiid, Ben Simmons and Markelle Fultz expected to be healthy and star, there is a need for veteran role players, shooting and depth. Last year, Gerald Henderson represented the voice of wisdom in the locker room. As Sixers head coach Brett Brown told the media prior to last week’s NBA draft, “[Sixers GM] Bryan [Colangelo] and I have had hours of discussion leading up to this on what the next step is in regards
to the formation of the team and free agents. I know he has shared with you the owners’ plan and, hence, our path that there is still a large part of this growth that will happen organically, not force fed. And so somewhere out there without being reckless and the formation of some of those qualities that we’re looking for to make up the rest of the team, that will be the next step.” Here are five good fits for the Sixers both in terms of scheme, veteran leadership and shooting abilities:
Dion Waiters The former Thunder and Cavaliers guard played 46 games for the Heat in 2016-17, scoring 15.8 points per game and shooting a decent 39.5 percent from long distance. He was rumored to be heading to Philly last season but he decided to route himself to Miami

instead. At 25 years old, he still have the potential to be potent scorer in the NBA and could be a good fit at the two-guard for Philly. He earned just over $3 million last year and will likely be seeking a slight raise, but his salary will be in the Sixers’ price range.
J.J. Redick Rumors continue to swirl that the 3-point specialist is being pursued aggressively by the Sixers. Redick has had three straight healthy seasons with the Clippers, averaging 15 points and shooting threes at a clip in the mid-40 percent range. He is 33 years old and has ample playoff experience, making him a great fit as a locker room voice for the youthful current roster. Redick got paid just under $7 million last season.
Kyle Lowry Lowry is the highestpriced free agent the
J.J. Redick has the shooting touch and experience the Sixers desperately need.
Sixers have been linked to, and he has Philly ties having played his college ball at Villanova. With the Raptors he’s been a perennial All-Star leading a perennial playoff team. Last year he scored 22.4 points per game and dished seven assists per contest running the point. In Philly, ball-handlers Fultz and Simmons could minimize his point guard abilities, but coming off his best season as a pro in 2016-17 there’s no doubt he could help the Sixers big time — if they

are willing to part ways with upward of $12 million per season.
Kyle Korver Korver was drafted by the Sixers, and in 18 NBA seasons and more than 1,000 games he’s established himself as one of the best 3-point shooters ever to play the game. He served a brief stint with the Cavaliers last season and will be a free agent when the league year begins on July 1. At 36 years old, there are few veteran presences more desire-
able than he.
Ersan Ilyasova The Turkish power forward started last season with the Sixers where he scored 14.8 points per game and showed a knack for scoring with the basketball. He fit in very well with the locker room culture and played hard for Brown. After being traded to the Hawks at the deadline, Ilyasova is a free agent again and could be a nice piece off the bench to pair with Dario Saric.
NBA rumors: Sixers tied to Anthony, Iguodala ESPN’s Chris Haynes reported Tuesday that the Sixers were named as one of a group of teams requesting meetings with free agent Andre Iguodala. The former Sixer becomes a free agent on July 1 and while Kevin Durant’s decision to opt out and re-sign for less money this offseason opens up a little more money for Golden State to use Bird Years to offer the 33-year-old defensive specialist closer to market value, teams like Philly will be able to offer him much more money —

and a bigger role. Philadelphia craves veteran leadership and experience in its locker room, helping to mentor and encourage their youthful core of Joel Embiid, Dario Saric, Ben Simmons and newcomer Markelle Fultz into champions one day. Iguodala has as much playoff and NBA Finals experience as anyone in the league today, having won the 2015 Finals MVP award thanks to his stellar defense on LeBron James.

possibly have interest in trading for or signing Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony, could they? According to Anthony himself, the 10-time AllStar would consider playing in either Philly or Washington, in order to stay close to New York and near his son. As he goes through some issues with his wife, actress La La, Anthony is reluctant to move too far away fron the Big Apple. Frank Isola of the New York Daily News broke it down Monday, saying, “According to

a person familiar with Anthony’s thinking, Carmelo is no longer enamored with playing in Los Angeles if it means having to be away from his son for an extended period of time. Anthony, according to the same source, was toying with the idea of orchestrating a move to either Philadelphia or Washington, which would keep him close to New York. However, Anthony’s mind-set now is to stay in New York and play for the Knicks … even though Jackson doesn’t want him.” EVAN MACY
