SENATOR: TRUMP JR. TO TESTIFY IN CONGRESS

President Donald Trump’s son and his former campaign chairman have been given approval by a U.S. special counsel to testify publicly to Congress as part of investigations into Russian meddling in the 2016 election, the top Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee said. U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein told Reuters the special counsel, former FBI director Robert Mueller, said that Donald Trump Jr. and
Paul Manafort, campaign manager from March to August, were free to speak to the committee. Mueller is investigating allegations by U.S. intelligence agencies that Russia interfered to help Trump win the presidency and possible collusion between Moscow and the Republican’s campaign.
The father of an Australian woman fatally shot by a Minneapolis police officer called for justice hours after a local medical examiner ruled that her death was a homicide. A Minneapolis police officer shot Justine Damond, originally from Sydney, through the door of a patrol car as she approached him and his partner in an alley near her home shortly before midnight on Saturday, according to the Minneapolis
Star-Tribune reported, citing three unnamed sources. Damond’s father, John Ruszczyk, told reporters in Sydney that her death was “our worst nightmare”. “Justine was a beacon to all of us. We only ask that the light of justice shine down on the circumstances of her death,” he said. The Hennepin County medical examiner said Damond died of a gunshot wound in the abdomen and concluded that her death was a homicide.

Former U.S. House of Representative Speaker Dennis Hastert has been released from prison in Minnesota and moved to a Chicago halfway house after serving a 13-month sentence for a financial crime tied to sex abuse, federal records showed. The 75-year-old was sentenced to 15 months at the Federal Medical Center in Rochester, Minnesota in April 2016 for banking violations that
revealed he sexually abused teenage boys while coaching wrestling at a high school in Yorkville, Illinois in the 1960s and 1970s. He is scheduled to be held at a residential re-entry facility office in Chicago until Aug. 16, according to Federal Bureau of Prisons records on Tuesday.

US PUTS NEW SANCTIONS ON IRAN
5
The United States slapped new economic sanctions against Iran on over its ballistic missile program and said Tehran’s “malign activities” in the Middle East undercut any “positive contributions” coming from the 2015 Iran nuclear accord. The measures signaled that the administration of President Donald Trump was seeking to put more pressure on Iran while keeping in place an agreement between Tehran and six world powers to
curb its nuclear program in return for lifting international oil and financial sanctions. The U.S. government said it was targeting 18 entities and people for supporting what is said was “illicit Iranian actors or transnational criminal activity.” Those sanctioned had backed Iran’s military or Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps by developing drones and military equipment, producing and maintaining boats, and procuring electronic components, it said.

Trump vowed that the healthcare effort was not dead. Republican efforts to overhaul or repeal Obamacare collapsed in the U.S. Senate on Tuesday, dealing a sharp setback to President Donald Trump and the Republican Party’s sevenyear quest to kill former President Barack Obama’s signature healthcare law. The disarray in the Republican-controlled Senate rattled financial markets as it cast doubt on the chances of getting Trump’s other domestic policy priorities, such as tax reform, through a divided Congress. Trump said he was disappointed by the failure and suggested he might let the insurance markets created under Obamacare go under and then try to work with Democrats on a rescue. “We’re probably in that position where we’ll just let Obamacare fail, Trump told reporters at the White House. “We will let Obamacare fail, and then the Democrats are going to come to us. U.S. Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell had announced a vote on a straight repeal of Obamacare, which would take effect in two years, after it became clear on Monday night that he did not have enough support to pass an overhaul of the healthcare law. But the new approach unraveled within hours. Moderate Republican senators Shelley Moore Capito of West Virginia, Susan Collins of Maine and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska quickly announced they would not back repeal. “I do not think that it’s going to be constructive to repeal a law that at this point is so interwoven within our healthcare system and then hope that over the next two years we will come up with some kind of replacement, Collins told reporters. Obamacare has boosted the number of Americans with health insurance through man-

dates on individuals and employers, and incomebased subsidies. About 20 million Americans gained insurance coverage through the law. Republican senators debated over lunch on Tuesday whether to go ahead with the repeal vote, which McConnell said afterward would occur “in the very near future. “This has been a very, very challenging experience for all of us, McConnell said, adding that the chamber needed to move on to issues like tax reform and a spending package to bolster the country’s infrastructure. As the healthcare bill collapsed in the Senate, leaders in the Republican-controlled House of Representatives unveiled a budget plan putting a proposed tax code overhaul on the same partisan procedural path that led to the anti-Obamacare initiative’s chaotic downfall. Republicans had hoped to finish with healthcare before an upcoming August recess so they could
tackle a wide-ranging rewrite of the U.S. tax code in September. Separate talks on taxes appear unlikely to reach Trump’s pledge to reduce the corporate tax rate to 15 percent from 35 percent. But their failure exposed the sharp divide within Republicans’ own ranks, with moderates concerned the healthcare bill’s Medicaid cuts would take insurance away from millions of lowincome Americans while conservatives backed the cuts and wanted even more dramatic changes to Obamacare. The U.S. dollar stumbled to a 10-month low against a basket of currencies and U.S. Treasury yields fell after the fresh setback to the healthcare bill raised investors’ doubts about Trump’s ability to enact tax cuts and infrastructure spending. Reaction in the stock market was muted, and analysts said the expectation for business-friendly legislation out of Washington is all but priced out of the stock market. REUTERS

What should you do if you witness Islamophobia in public? Posters around Boston will soon give tips to help people in that exact situation. Mayor Marty Walsh announced this week a citywide public service announcement to help raise awareness about how bystanders can deescalate harassment and Islamophobia. Over the next two weeks, 50 posters will be placed throughout the city on places such as bus stops. The posters detail a step-by-step guide to “diffusing situations where an individual may be facing Islamophobia or any other type of harassment,” the city said in a statement. The first step is to engage in conversation with the person being targeted. “Go to them, sit beside them and say hello,” the poster details. “Try to appear calm, collected and welcoming.
Ignore the attacker.” Next, pick a random subject to start discussing with the person. The campaign suggests anything from a movie you like to the weather to complementing something the person is wearing and asking where they got it. “Keep building the safe space,” the poster suggested next. “Keep eye contact with them and don’t acknowledge the attacker’s presence.” This should prompt the attacker to leave, according to the PSA. Finally, continue talking with the person until the attacker leaves, or escort them to a safe space if that is necessary, though the poster also advises that you “respect their wishes if they tell you they’re OK and just want to go.” In November 2016, hate crimes against Muslims spiked, according to the FBI’s annual hate crime report, which found that in one year, anti-Muslim hate crimes rose 67 percent in the United States. “These posters are one tool we have to send the message that all are welcome in Boston,” Walsh said in a statement. “Education is key to fighting intolerance, and these posters share a simple strategy for engaging with those around you.”
ranking the popularity of every governor in the United States. Baker earned the top spot with a 71 percent approval rating, according to the poll. Seventeen percent disapprove of Baker’s performance and 12 percent of responders were undecided about the Republican governor, who is up for re-election next year. The top 10 most popular governors were all Republicans, and a few of them, like Baker, are in control of blue states. Behind Baker at No. 2 was Maryland’s
Larry Hogan with a 68 percent approval rating, and Vermont’s Phil Scott came in at the eighth spot with a 62 percent approval rating. All three of those states voted overwhelmingly for Hillary Clinton in the 2016 presidential election, despite their Republican governors. Clinton won Massachusetts with 60 percent of the vote, while President Donald Trump got about 33 percent. New Jersey’s Chris Christie had the lowest approval rating of all governors with just 25

R. Kelly “cult” member speaks out On Monday, some concerned parents spoke out to Buzzfeed, accusing R&B star R. Kelly of keeping their teenage daughter in a twisted sex cult. Kelly, 50, shot back with a statement through his attorney Linda Mensch, denying any wrongdoing. Now, one of the alleged cult members is speaking out. Kate Mara and Jamie Bell secretly got married, presumably over the weekend. I mean it wasn’t a secret. We just weren’t invited. Bell shared the same image to his Twitter, writing “Me & Mrs B.” Aw.

All because, essentially, he wants to be Drake. “I wanted to have a really big show,” Mayer told AP. ‘I went and saw Drake’s show and … real artists say, ‘Wow!” ... Because you see something that wows you, and as an artist yourself, you go, ‘I want a little of that.’” Of course, Mayer — who by the way, is very talented, just really annoying — is a fan of Drake’s, and would go to a Drake set and be like, “Ooh, gimme!” So I guess those of you who are willing to spend money on supporting John Mayer’s career will have to let me know if it was all worth it.

Kate Middleton made a joke
Fascinating!
Kate Middleton, y’alls fave, just joked about having more children. Very interesting! Middleton — ahem, I mean the duchess of Cambridge — already shares two children with The duke of Cambridge, aka Prince William: Prince George, 3, and Princess Charlotte, 2.
But during a royal trip to Poland, Middleton made a joke that some people are freaking out about. Sure! When the duke and duchess received a gift for a newborn baby from a Polish fan, she quipped, “We will just have to have more babies.” Stop the presses! Get the guns!
Man the whatevers! A woman and her husband might have another kid! It’s just so unbelievable! The only sad thing about this is that with every child, Prince Harry gets further and further away from the throne. Although, to be fair, that’s kind of what he wants.

When we talk, it’s Essence Fest weekend, the same event that draws the film’s cast of estranged besties — played by Regina Hall, Jada Pinkett Smith, Queen Latifah and Haddish — down to NOLA for a long-timecoming, raucous reunion. “Girls Trip” is hilarious, but it also has a great message about female friendship: It’s not always easy, but those relationships are worth fighting for. Do you relate in your own life? Yes. A lot of women get their man and forget they had girlfriends, but when that man’s gone, they’re like, “Uh, where are my friends?!” If you’ve got real friends, they forgive you for that. Sometimes in your 20s you get “dickmatized,” you don’t know any better. But you learn! I loved the dance-off scenes in the movie. Who would you want to dance battle in real life? Girl. In my dream danceoff-battle world, I would love to battle dance Bruno Mars. Me and Bruno, head to head. What you got, Bruno? [Laughs] At the BET Awards, I challenged him. Did you know about that before “Girls Trip”? I’ve been talking about oral sex in my stand-up comedy since 2003. Then this woman comes out — if you go to YouTube and put in “grapefruiting,” this lady Angel decided to do a tutorial on how to properly provide oral sex. When I saw it I was like, “Oh my God, that’s what I do on stage but not as graphic or as good as she does it!” When I read it in the script I just fell out laughing because I knew exactly what it was. Why you should see ‘Dunkirk’ on 70mm film

For starters, what is 70mm ďŹ lm? It’s a high-resolution celluloid film format, twice the size of 35mm, which for decades was how most films were projected in theaters. What that means is higher quality: a clearer picture, even stronger colors and blacks and whites. In 70mm’s heyday, from the 1950s to the early ’70s, it was usually reserved for big epics such as “Lawrence of Arabia and “2001: A Space Odyssey.â€? Its high costs led to it falling from favor. Over the last handful of years, some filmmakers have brought it back, including P.T. Anderson (“The Masterâ€?), Quentin Tarantino (“The Hateful Eightâ€?) and Christopher Nolan (first with “Interstellar,â€? now with “Dunkirkâ€?). Can I only see “Dunkirkâ€? in 70mm? No. There are several ways you can see it. In addition to 70mm,
theaters in America, Australia and New Zealand. “It’s just a different experience, Sittig says about 70mm versus digital. “I use the words warmer or softer. Digital is strikingly sharp — almost unrealistically sharp to me, in some cases. Film has a warmth or some kind of texture that is more realistic. Christopher Nolan’s “Dunkirk, in theaters Friday, concerns the evacuation of 40,000 English troops after a World War II battle in northern France. WARNER BROS. PICTURES
it will be showing in plain old digital, Imax Laser, Imax Xenon (shorter than Imax Laser), and 35mm film. The ideal way to see it, which is to say Nolan’s preferred format, is 70mm Imax. But if there isn’t an Imax theater near you, you can see it in 70mm in traditional multiplex theaters that are showing it. (Check our site to see which theaters will show it that way.)
OK, which format should I see if I can choose from any option? We say Imax 70mm. Nolan has been making films with partial Imax footage since “The Dark Knight in 2008. We’d guesstimate 70 to 75 percent of “Dunkirk is in 70mm Imax, and it really is something to behold. But if you don’t live near an Imax theater showing it on 70mm, regular 70mm is better than any kind of digital. Movie tickets are expensive, and with 70mm, you get more bang for your buck.
Frankly, why should I care? Nolan did shoot it in 70mm (and 35mm), but we get it: Unless you’re seeing it in giant, retinafilling Imax 70mm, the average moviegoer may not notice the difference between film and digital. To explain the difference, we turned to an expert: John Sittig, a longtime projectionist who runs the projection unit at Reading Cinemas, which owns

Find Skin Cancer Early: Dana-Farber Wants You to Know Your ABCDEs With an estimated 8,500 new cases of skin cancer diagnosed in the U.S. every day, it is important that you not only protect yourself from the sun’s UV rays, but also regularly check your skin for anything out of the ordinary. While freckles and moles are often harmless, it is important to perform regular self-exams and follow the ABCDEs (asymmetry, border, color, diameter, evolution) to determine if a mark could be something more serious. If any spots seem unusual, consult your doctor as soon as possible. To learn more about melanoma and skin cancer research and treatment visit DanaFarber.org. Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, a principal teaching affiliate of Harvard Medical School, is world renowned for its leadership in adult and pediatric cancer treatment and research. For those looking to join the surge of tenants in Boston’s thriving Seaport District, the nearly finished Via and brand new The Benjamin offer the finest in modern, upscale apartment living. The pair of 20-story towers, encased in hybrids of glass and metal for breathtaking sea views, will feature over 832 luxury units where two drab parking lots stood just over four years ago. “We wanted to shape the experience of these buildings but also this area,” says Senior Vice President of Berkshire Group Heather Boujoulian. “Everything is booming, and the residents love being here at the center of the city.” While both towers are built off “a high performance, state of the art enclosure,” there are a variety of differences which set The Benjamin and Via apart according to project manager Peter Zmuidzinas of Elkus
Manfredi Architects. In essence, The Benjamin is marketed toward the “urban sophisticate” who values serenity and the crème de la crème of amenities, while Via is a bit flashier and was designed to fit the tastes of a younger resident. “Via is still about timelessness, but has some more fun elements like bolder colors and many smaller apartments with collaborative areas,” says Boujoulian. Named “Fusion,” these microstudios at Via average at 400 square feet and are by far the most affordable option across either building with monthly rent starting around $2,000. Each unit includes standard luxury amenities at a smaller footprint for individuals who tend to spend more time around the city than at home. Fusion tenants, as well as all of those living at Via, will have access to a series of sweeping decks providing outdoor space across several stories of the building. Meanwhile, those fond of attention to detail should note the separation between “luxury” and “premium” floors at The Benjamin. The 17th floor and higher include special perks
such as glass backsplashes and private elevators to push the grandeur even higher. The expansive complex, located just past the Seaport Boulevard bridge, will also invite residents and the public into a 250,000-squarefoot retail space enclosed in the first three stories of each building. Todd Norley of WS Development notes that “[the Seaport] is an ecosystem for some of Boston’s best workers and thought leaders. And while many more are choosing to live here, there’s a huge void of retail space -- until now.” LL Bean, Equinox, Cafe Nero, Tuscan Kitchen as well as a new bar and club named Scorpion are a just a few of the names to expect in the lineup. The top notch facilities and optimal location of The Benjamin and Via have certainly not gone unnoticed, as leasing “is going extremely well” according to Boujoulian, with “contracts into the double-digits being signed each week since opening.” All available apartments at The Benjamin can be toured now and the Via will be opening in three waves through November.

OH NO. NOT OJ Last year, O.J. Simpson murder trial nostalgia (as sickening as that is to say) reached a high point in America. There was that unintentionally funny FX OJ show with an exceptionally strange John Travolta and Ross from “Friends,” and ESPN had that 73-part “30 for 30” on OJ and race relations. Believe it or not, OJ

Of course, Vegas has betting lines open on whether or not OJ will be paroled or not (he is in jail for a 2007 armed
NO, WE’RE THE SWEATIEST!!
Bostonians love winning, so they’ll be highly disappointed to find out that they finished in a lowly fifth place when it comes to the “sweatiest” city in America. Rival New York finished No. 1, followed by Washington, DC, Chicago and Miami. “To identify the sweatiest cities across the nation, we looked
at data in a number of national records to determine the percentage of homes without central air conditioning, the popularity of public transportation and citywide bike sharing programs, as well as the cities with the ‘hottest’ professions,” said Dr. Ted Myatt, who led the study by EH&E and the mar-
keters of Honeywell Fans. Hottest profession? Try the hairy guy who cooks the sausages at Sausage King outside Fenway, or the guy who plays his guitar, praying for a quarter, at the Kenmore T-stop on a Red Sox game night in July. No way we shouldn’t be first. This is crap.
Ancestry.com is cool until you have to, like, pay them money to find out who your great, great, great, great Aunt on your mom’s side is. I refuse to pay $2.50 for information. Bill Belichick doesn’t have money problems, so he probably already knows that he’s related to Hugh Hefner, Clint Eastwood and Warren Buffett. Yup, grumpy Bill is a distant cousin of Hefner — the guy who has been laid more times than God and Wilt Chamberlain combined. The Boston Globe recently ran an article regarding Belichick’s bloodlines and not only is he like, 10th cousins with

Hefner, Eastwood and Buffett — he’s also related to two presidents: William Taft and Grover Cleveland. I suppose if you dig deep enough,
everybody is related to everybody, and this was just a piece to re-prove the fact that Belichick is a genius. So … more like, Taft and Cleveland are related to Belichick, right?

NSF-2017 Boxing has always used race to sell fights, so it’s no surprise that Conor McGregor “went there.” McGregor said, “Dance for me, boy” to Mayweather during one of the over-the-top pressers and also referred to “Rocky III” as the movie
with “dancing monkeys in the gym.” Mayweather had some vile NSF-2017 jabs of his own for McGregor, calling McGregor the gay slur of, “f-----.” Ahhh, Trump’s America. Mayweather remains
a heavy favorite to win the Aug. 26 boxing match at -700. It won’t help McGregor’s cause that there are rumors currently floating around that he was recently KO’d in a sparring session with some nobody.
