EDITORIAL I Thank God... For Mitt Romney And you should too. As this is my first editorial and not wanting to sound like a neophyte nor alienate any potential readers, it was my plan to to express this magazines views from a neutral position with respect to politics. However as I constantly devour the political sections of online newspapers like the NY Times, Huffington Post, and sites like, nj.com, and CNN.com, and TV networks such as Fox and MSNBC, I am starting to reach a conclusion about the 2012 presidential election. Over my fifty plus years here on this earth I can not recall any president being liked more, nor being prayed for as much as President Barak Obama. With all the prayers for the “Jackie Robinson of America"...that he would be safe, successful, and that he would have a second term, that desire and prayer for his continued presidency 'til 2016 is being answered before our very eyes and should be clearly visible to everyone, especially in the months of August and September. God works in mysterious ways... We have all heard it. We have all known someone who has experienced it. And we ourselves have been
EDITORIAL partakers of the Devine miraculous intervention by God in our lives, at one time or another. Could it be happening again? If you were to design the ideal candidate to run a political campaign against and could choose from all of the past presidential candidates, who would you pick? Who would make your candidacy look good? I believe you would be hard pressed to say the least to find someone better than Mitt Romney to run against to insure your odds of success. Millions have prayed that President Barak Obama would have a second term in office. I believe God has sent an opposition candidate whose own party is not enamored with him, whose own convention was lack luster to say the least, and whose supporting speakers pushed his numbers down rather than lifting him up in the polls. And I need not mention the fallout over the remarks about the 47%. It just could be that Mitt Romney is God's answer to prayer for a second term for President Barak Obama; And that's why I thank God for Mitt Romney, and you should too. - Pastor Rick

Photo Caption: On Saturday, September 8, 2012, the Newark Police Clergy Academy held its graduation ceremonies at Calvary Gospel Church at 17 Lyons Avenue, in Newark’s South Ward. 33 members of the Newark clergy graduated from the eightmonth class, which taught the clergy members the role of a chaplain in the Police Department, psychology, emotional first aid, ethics, crisis response, suicide, and police protocol and procedures. At the ceremony, Police Chief Sheilah A. Coley presented the graduates with certificates from the International Conference of Police Chaplains, certifying them in their new role, and marking their completion of the course. Police Clergy Alliance Executive Director and Police Chaplain Leslie L. Jones, a retired Newark Police officer, served as Master of Ceremonies. Newark Police chaplains assist officers and victims of crimes after incidents. They also respond to homicide situations, and assist with informing next-of-kin of victims. They also participate in Police Department ceremonies, including promotions and funerals. Here, Police Chief Coley congratulates graduates and instructors at the ceremony. “It was really comprehensive. We looked at many aspects of chaplaincy, leadership, self-examination, and in helping not only the police officers, but the community at large, as well. We are now prepared for most crises that may occur. It was a fascinating course. I enjoyed doing this,” said Metro Christian Ministries Pastor Rick Greene, who completed the course and is now a Newark Police Chaplain. Police Clergy Academy 2012 03

The Book of Nehemiah is an essential component in Scripture. Nehemiah’s model of Urban transformation emphasizes faith, sacrifice, and integrity. The key principles and procedures include the necessity of prayer and action, knowledge and goal setting, leading by example, and overcoming opposition. “So I prayed to the God of heaven” is stated frequently throughout Nehemiah. As Nehemiah accepted his call to return to Jerusalem and assist the exiles, he continuously prayed and fasted (1:4, 2:4). In chapter four, upon the first threat from the enemies, Nehemiah prayed (4:4-5). As conditions changed, and opposition grew, Nehemiah instituted actions (4:9), through which God could provide deliverance (4:20). However, Nehemiah knew that prayer alone would not be enough. Nehemiah was able to overcome the pressure of the so called “friends” by remembering that God had called him to a great work. Sometimes as Christians we give in into temptation because of pressure even though initially we had resisted it. Here Nehemiah models for us a pattern of godly character by outright refusing to leave the great work of God and hang out with a bunch of people who attempted to harm him. In addition to prayer, one must be available trust God with everything and then work to accomplish the necessary goals. After arriving in Jerusalem, Nehemiah continued to act wisely. He arrived quietly, and spent several days secretly surveying the condition of the walls (2:11-12). Nehemiah began with a chaotic situation of disarray and discord (2:17), established a strategic analysis, shared his plan, took inventory of the progress
(4:6-6:11), and finally, completed his initial goal of rebuilding the wall (6:15). In order to accomplish his goal, Nehemiah portrayed organization and administrative skills. In addition, he lead by example and established wide spread support in the wall-building project. A good leader is one who is not above those he leads. Throughout it all, Nehemiah continued fostering teamwork by spreading the workers along the wall (4:16), creating a defense that united the people in work while allowing them to protect their families. Nehemiah reminded the people of their calling, their goal, and God’s protection. He never underestimated the opposition, and despite his fear, he consistently refused to compromise, negotiate, or be worn down through repeated temptations. To those of us who will take the Transformation message abroad know the work of the Lord’s people is often met with opposition. Just as Nehemiah we too are to work as a transformation team. We are currently working with a city-ward community project to bring about local community and merchant awareness that will promote thriving communities to cause and endorse healthy successful businesses It is necessary to recognize we are to bring God to the forefront in all of our dealings that we no more be a “disgrace and a reproach” There will be no triumph without trouble, no success without tests. Our community, businesses, educational and political systems and churches must come together to pray, persevere, and sacrifice, just as Nehemiah did. Ultimately, God’s plan will prevail.

7 Ways to Encourage Your Pastor or Ministry Leader! 1. Take notes on the Sermon and during Bible Study. One of the most rewarding experiences is to see that the people your are trying to help grow in God’s word are actually trying to grow in God’s word. 2. Appreciate the work they do throughout the week as well as on Sunday. What you may not realize is that the work done during the week is far more challenging than what you see on Sunday mornings. 3. Speak well of your local congregation. Ministry leaders make many sacrifices and give much care and effort to growing and sustaining their churches. By speaking well of your congregation it acknowledges the hard work that your ministry leader is doing. 4. Pray for them. Pray earnestly for your pastors and ministry leaders... they are going through difficulties too, all the while, trying to help you with yours. 5. Serve. There are few things that encourage ministry leaders as much as seeing people become “involved” in the
work of the Lord. True ministry leaders wholeheartedly desire not to be the only ones doing the ministry. 6. Speak well of their spouses. Spouses of pastors and ministry leaders make major sacrifices as well. They often carry the burden of totally managing their domestic issues and do ministry as well. It really encourages a pastor to see that their love one is loved as well. 7. Give generously. To maintain a ministry takes money and other resources. The truth be told is that while the stereotype is that the ministry leaders are living in comfort off of their congregations giving, the truth is that rings true for only about 1% of those in ministry. The other 99% are living on modest incomes and often times less than that of many in the congregation because much of their income is put back into the ministry. And despite what may be seen on TV, most pastors and ministry leaders feel very uncomfortable about asking others for money and resources. - Pastor Rick

God spoke the world in existence; therefore our first experience with God is through the creative power of His words. In Gen.1:26 we see that God created man in his Image and likeness. Likeness: A representation of, picture or image, the state or fact of being like. Therefore if we are in God’s likeness, just as He has creative power in His words we do as well. 2012 Feast of Trumpets Convocation Rosh Hashanah
A Celebration of God's People by Curtis Mincey
One of the last things you would expect to find in a predominately black neighborhood in Newark, New Jersey is a black church that celebrates Jewish Holy Days. But at Beth El International Church Ministry, Inc, located at 818 So. Orange Avenue (rear building) Senior Pastor Rev. Dr. Gloria Harris has her congregation doing just that. Beth El International Church Ministry is celebrating the 2012 Feast of Trumpets Convocation (Rosh Hashanah). HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
As a group of called out believers and followers of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We are to be lead by the Holy Spirit on every manner of conduct that we exhibit to this lost and dying world. We shouldn't sound like the world when we talk. Whining and complaining about the government, or the school system, or the legal system or our place of employment. But we should be thanking God for this country the United States of America. We should be praying for our government leaders, our teachers, our police officers and our employers. We should be thanking God for the fact that His will is being done through all of these individuals. We shouldn't look like the world. We don't have to embrace the same dress code of world. We don't have to walk around with our pants hanging down to our knees and wearing our T-shirts on our head or hanging out of our back pocket showing the world what type of underwear we have on. Oh no he didn't, Yes I did. We don't have to wear fashion that is so revealing that it leaves nothing to the imagination, that it becomes a distraction and gives the wrong impression. We should dress like responsible men and women who have been trained by our parents and guardians. Who are serious about life and have the desire to train up the next generation in the respect and adoration of the Lord. Who are more concerned with displaying inner beauty than outer confusion. Who Love the Lord God Almighty, and want nothing more than to glorify Him. We can't allow the world
to influence our lifestyle to the point that we live a life that is contradictory to the purpose that God created us. In the beginning He created and man and woman. But what we should do is place all of our attention, all of our focus, all of our consideration on the things of God. You see the problem is the love for the things of this world, the desire for attention and the need to be important are the very things that are isolating many people from God the Father. And that's why Paul is inspiring us to look to God and not the things of this world. Jesus said that we should seek the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things should be added to you. Paul is calling us to take satisfaction in what God has given us. Because God knows what is best for us. And God knows that this city needs to be transformed. But I want you to remember that transformation doesn't start with the President, it d o e s n ' t s t a r t w i t h t h e G o v e r n o r. B u t transformation starts with me. Transformation doesn't start with the Mayor, it doesn't start with the Council People. But transformation starts with me. Transformation doesn't start with my momma, it doesn't start with my daddy. But transformation starts with me. Transformation doesn't start with my neighbor, it doesn't start with my enemy. But transformation starts with me. Min. Curtis Mincey

REASONS TO
7 Reasons To Take A Stand By Curtis Mincey As a ministry leader I am discovering more and more the need to stand up and to be prayed up. In other words there is a need for me to take a position regarding the word of God and to stand up for it. To defend it and to have faith in it. It is not an easy task to defend the word of God. It's not an easy task read and learn the word of God. This is an endeavor that requires patience and diligence. It requires commitment and sacrifice. But the results are a better understanding of the true nature of God, the true nature of humanity and the true need for salvation. As believers in the body of Christ our willingness to proclaim the true gospel message of salvation
through Jesus Christ should be the activity that we are the most committed to. We should have the understanding that... 1. Our commitment to Christ will cause us to lose some friends and family members. It may even cause us to have to walk away from certain resources that we have become accustomed to. 2. Our commitment to Christ will allow us to gain new friends and family. It will put us in a position to trust God more and allow Him to give us the resources we need. 3. Our Christian lives will put us in the unique position of being able to have a positive impact on the lives of those around us. We become a living visual testimony to God's transforming life altering power.
4. Our stance on the word of God will give people the ability to see how true our faith and commitment to God and his word really is. When we back down and give in to fit in we weaken the impact and dilute the message. 5. Our desire should be one of letting God get the glory through our lives. And we learn how and what glorifies God by reading His word. 6. Through reading His word we learn the how, when, why, where, who and what of prayer. 7. It is through His word and His spirit that we gain the courage and insight that is needed to confront and correct those around us. This is done with a sense of love toward the individual, a reverence for God and a desire to see people saved.

ADOPT A FAMILY Families Praying for Families with PrayForNewark Adopt A Family Prayer Trust “Only as we carry out a Campaign of Hope successfully inside our churches will Christians be able and willing to embrace wholeheartedly our mission outside, from neighborhoods, to the poor, to the earth’s unreached peoples.” David Bryant with Richard Ross, Christ is All (p.8)
FROM ESSEX COUNTY IN THE UNITED KINGDOM to Essex County in the United States, the Lord brought the vision of Adopt a Family. The Lord gave this vision to Wendy Thomas of “Street Pastors Ministries” in Essex County UK. He connected us, at Families of Faith, by Lloyd Turner of PrayForNewark. The result is a shared vision of families praying for families. Over a period of several months, the Lord made it clear that this was answer to specific prayers and desires of, not only the Families of Faith team, but the PrayForNewark team as well.
Building Families for a Mission
The Vision To change the world, beginning with our city, one family at a time, through prayer; to see every family in every church prayed for, as a unit and as individuals to become what God intended Christ-centered ad set-apart from the world for the purpose of the world. Tel: The Mission To inspire and help churches develop a plan that will involve every family in the church praying for at least one other family, as a unit and as individuals. The Goal To see the church comprised of strong, healthy families who will embrace Jesus’ call to go into the world and bring His love and mercy to the lost and hurting.
We envision families praying for families un l every family in every church is prayed for (vision of Families of Faith) and every individual in Newark is prayed for (vision of PrayForNewark). Prayer always precedes work, and results follow prayer in God’s economy. So, it is as we place our hopes and dreams for families, of our ci es and suburbs, before God that He will be honored and bless us. Subsequently, when the families in the church become strong and 862-371-5529 resilient, they will be equipped to minister to the masses that desperately need Christ’s love and grace!
Families of Faith Families of Faith (FOF) (FOF) is a non profit ministry commi ed to the well being of the family. We want to see the family as a whole, as well as every individual member, grow strong and thoroughly equipped to serve God in the community and world. We perceive families praying for families as the most e ec ve means of accomplishing this. www.families of faith.org pepcfamily@gmail.com

The Nehemiah Model Introduction: The only model in the Bible of urban city transformation occurred about 500 years before Christ, as recorded in the Old Testament Book of Nehemiah. The Pray for Jerusalem initiative, however, which helped position the transformation, is recorded in the Book of Ezra. In following the Nehemiah model, as herein detailed, we are insured success.
PrayForNewark : This prayer saturation initiative which precedes transformation has 900 persons praying daily for each of Newark’s 900 streets. The Bible: Prayer Saturation for the Nehemiah Model was positioned before Nehemiah arrived at Jerusalem. King Darius’ decreed to let the Jews alone to build the House of God and “offer up sacrifices of sweet savors unto the God of heaven” including prayer for the king and his sons. (Ezra 6:10, also, Jesus referred to Temple, his Father’s House, as House of Prayer)
Nehemiah Transformation Model: 7 Steps Mission Visualization: The mission we have for Newarkers is the same as Nehemiah’s. The Bible: Nehemiah’s vision was for his city to become a city where the inhabitants would no longer be in affliction and a reproach. That too is our vision for Newark. (Nehemiah 1:3,10 &17)
Team Mobilization: Identify those who will begin and complete the work in Newark. The Bible: Nehemiah assessed the situation. He then approached the Jews, priests, nobles and rulers and the rest that would do the work and said to them, let us build up the wall of Jerusalem that we be no more a reproach. It will begin with the church, as with Nehemiah it began with the priests. (Nehemiah 2:16-17, see 3:1 & 5)
Enemy Identification: Identify those motivated to obstruct Newark’s transformation. The Bible: Enemies who tried to obstruct Nehemiah’s transformation were primarily outsiders who were grieved exceedingly at the prospect of improvement in the welfare of the city’s inhabitants. They were perpetuating, and probably profiting from, the reproach. In Nehemiah’s case enemy leaders were Sanballat, Tobiah and Geshem. (Nehemiah 2:10, 4:1-3 & 7-8, 6:1-2)
Economic Equalization: Newark’s economic opportunities playing field must be level. The Bible: There was a great cry from the people and their wives against Jerusalem brethren because of the economic disparity and bondage that resulted from exacting usury. (Nehemiah 5:1-4, 7) Nehemiah firmly requested the nobles and rulers to restore to those deprived their lands, houses, and part of their money (Nehemiah 5:11). And they made an oath to do so. (Nehemiah 5:12-13)
Word Saturation: The City of Newark must be saturated with the Word of God. The Bible: After the walls were built and genealogies confirmed, Ezra the priest was summoned to read the Book of the Law of
Moses before the congregation of men and women. (Nehemiah 8:1-3,7) When they heard it the people wept. Ezra told them to sorry not “for the joy of the Lord is your strength.” (Nehemiah 8:9-10)
Holy Day Observation: With believers support, all must see the Lord’s Day reverenced. The Bible: After hearing the word, the people cleaved to their brethren, their nobles, and made an oath that if the people of the land bring ware, or any victuals on the Sabbath day to sell, they would not buy it of them on the Sabbath day or on a holy day. (Nehemiah 10:31 and 13:15-17)
Righteous Family Unification: Unified righteous families will strengthen our city. The Bible: Nehemiah vehemently opposed the “great evil” of marrying “strange wives” and reminded them how “outlandish women” caused King Solomon to sin. He also expressed concern for the adverse affect on children born of such relationships. (Nehemiah 13:24-27)
