Music/Writing/Performing MUSIC Novice Guitar for Non-Musicians Blues Guitar Blues is the great “roots” music of America—the foundation of rock ’n’ roll, rhythm ’n’ blues, funk and jazz, and the “granddaddy” of heavy metal. It’s the secular, Saturday-night flip side of Sunday morning’s spirituals and gospel. When musicians from different genres such as country, bluegrass, jazz, rock and even classical get together to jam, the blues is usually where they find common ground. Come explore this widely influential and uniquely American genre in a practical, hands-on way. Learn the standard 12-bar blues chord progression and its variations, as well as a common eight-bar pattern. We’ll play and jam on songs by artists like Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker and Chuck Berry. Prerequisite(s): No prerequisite; however, practical experience playing the 1, 4 and 5-7th chords in the keys of E, A and G would be helpful. 44160036 / $149 Jan 16 - Feb 27
