OBESITY LEADS TO EARLY DEATH, REGARDLESS OF PHYSICAL EXERCISE ABILITY
Obese people who are physically fit are still significantly more likely to die young than people of normal weight in poor shape, according to a new study in the International Journal
of Epidemiology. “In recent years, the concept of ‘fat but fit’ has emerged, implying that high fitness can compensate for obesity,” the researchers write. New findings add to a growing body of evidence refuting this idea. Exercise provides impor tant health benefits, and just 30 minutes five times per week is more effective at preventing and managing chronic diseases than any drug. Obesity is a major risk factor for many of the same diseases that exercise helps stave off, including hear t disease, diabetes, and cancer.
Do your weights workout first
BRUSH UP ON HYGIENE Many people don’t know how to brush their teeth properly. Improper brushing can cause as much damage to the teeth and gums as not brushing at all. Lots of people don’t brush for long enough, don’t floss and don’t see a dentist regularly. Hold your toothbrush in the same way that
Only 20% of adults in the U.S. are getting the recommended amount of exercise, according to a new repor t by the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention). The research showed that one in five American adults is meeting both the aerobic and muscle-strengthening components of the physical activity guidelines issued by the federal government. According to The Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans, adults should be getting at least two and a
half hours each week of moderate-intensity aerobic activity - like walking - or one hour and 15 minutes each week of vigorous-intensity aerobic activity - like jogging - or a mixture of both. The recommendations also say that adults should engage in muscle-strengthening activities, including sit-ups, push-ups, or exercise using resistance bands or weights. All major muscle groups should be involved in these activities, which should be done at least two days every week.

would hold a pencil, and brush for at least two minutes. This includes brushing the teeth, the junction of the teeth and gums, the tongue and the roof of the mouth. And you don’t need a fancy, angled toothbrush – just a sturdy, soft-bristled one that you replace each month.
ONLY 20% OF U.S. ADULTS GET ENOUGH EXERCISE
“Heavy sweating is a sign that your body is producing a lot of heat,” says Bergeron, which could lead to heat exhaustion if conditions don’t improve or get worse. In fact, heat is more dangerous on humid days, because sweat can’t evaporate off the skin—which normally produces a cooling sen-
sation—as easily as it can with dry or breezy weather. Feeling thirsty is also a sign that your body needs more water. Even if you don’t feel parched, it’s impor tant to sip water frequently on hot days. If you’re out in the heat for more than an hour, a spor ts drink can also help replenish lost hydration.
BABY BOOMERS: LIVING LONGER, BUT NOT HEALTHIER As each generation gets older they like to think that they are healthier than the previous generation, however, the baby boomers are now unable to stake this claim. New findings published in JAMA Internal Medicine, in a study conducted by a group of researchers from the West Virginia University School of

Medicine, revealed that a portion of the baby boomer generation, specifically the 78 million Americans who were born in the post-war baby boom, (1946-1964), were less healthy than most of their parents. Historically, the baby boomer population has been labeled the “healthiest generation”,
due to their long life expectancy and their ability to take advantage of the newest medical care and public health campaigns. However, this label may no longer apply as studies reveal baby boomers have higher levels of certain conditions, including: obesity, high cholesterol, diabetes, and hypertension.
Exper ts say weight training should be done first because it’s a higher intensity exercise compared to cardio. Your body is better able to handle weight training early in the workout because you’re fresh and you have the energy you need to work it. Conversely, cardiovascular exercise should be the last thing you do at the gym because it helps your body recover by increasing blood flow to the muscles, and flushing out lactic acid, which builds up in the muscles while you’re weight training. It’s the lactic acid that makes your muscles feel stiff and sore. The added benefit of doing cardio last is that you use up most of your glucose and glycogen. This is the energy stored in your blood and muscles. Once you body uses these two fuel sources It has to turn to stored body fat for energy. Weights before cardio equal a flatter stomach.

ATER IS ALMOST ALWAYS YOUR W HEALTHIEST DRINK OPTION A lot of popular beverage choices out there have no nutritional benefits. Soda is mostly liquefied sugar, and a lot of juices are surprisingly in the same boat. Everyone knows alcoholic beverages should only be enjoyed in moderation, and sports drinks are really only a good choice when you’re in the middle of some intense activity. In most cases, if you’re going to buy a drink, water is your best choice. EXTRA TAKE-AWAY: BOTTLED WATER VS. TAP WATER Now that you know it's important never to forget keeping up with your water intake. What about tap water vs. bottled water? Well, not only is bottled water a bit more convenient, it might also be safer. In recent study from the Environment Science and Technology, researchers found possible risks of acute gastrointestinal illness from aging water distribution systems. Why risk cramps and discomfort when it can all be avoided with purified, bottled water? Next time you're packing the gym bag, need a bottle for the office or grabbing something onthe-go. Look for brands that are pulling water from the purest sources and distributing directly into their bottling plants. Also, check to see it the water supply is free of any local industry, farming or pesticides and ensures your water never touches outside air until you open the cap.

Global Medical Center:
More than just chiropractic care… LOTS MORE!
by Liz Maddox
Everyone thinks Global Medical Center is just a chiropractic office, but we’re so much more! –Dennis Peyroux
Global Medical Center of Slidell is more than just a chiropractic facility, it’s a wellness facility helping people improve their health and happiness. It’s a perfect blend of old-school practices complemented with new-age techniques. For the past 20 years, Dr. Dennis Peyroux has used a hands-on approach while utilizing advanced technologies to better help his patients achieve all of their health and wellness goals. The foundation of Global Medical Center (GMC) is chiropractic care, the first stop for the diagnosis and treatment of injuries and any mechanical disorders. The main purpose for chiropractic services according to Dr. Peyroux is “to reduce physical stress and irritations in the nervous system to allow people to perform at a higher level.” That higher level applies to athletes looking for optimum performance as well as grandmothers hoping to keep up with grandchildren. Chiropractic care should be the window to all heath care. “GMC can decide an appropriate treatment and/or refer you to the right place.”
A
Dr. Peyroux has been ahead of the game for 20 years! Melissa Brown,NP
graduate of Holy Cross and Life University College Chiropractic in Marietta, Georgia, Dennis Peyroux, one of four boys three of whom are also chiropractors, has been practicing for over 20 years. He and his wife Michelle, who is a Family Nurse Practitioner in the ER at Slidell Memorial Hospital, have planted roots in this community. Two years ago Kyle Smith, D.C. joined the practice. Dr. Peyroux likes to say that this is the best combination of the old and the new. Dr. Smith brings many cutting edge techniques to the practice, and says, “We offer a variety of diverse innovative treatment options that allow us to provide the best possible care to our patients.” Global Medical Center has always been a service-oriented clinic, and when Dr. Peyroux realized that his patients wanted something beyond chiropractic, he was determined to fill that need. He recognized that “people are looking for ways to be more vital in their lives. They want a stronger libido; they want to look and feel younger.” So he decided to branch out. He enticed two Nurse Practitioners, Tammi Labarre, FNP-BC, and Melissa Brown, ANP-C, each with thriving practices of their own, to join him. Together with Mike Isabelle, a collaborative MD, Dr. Peyroux has made GMC a holistic, comprehensive wellness facility. A few services that Dr. Peyroux is most proud of are Hormone Replacement Therapy, Cryopreserved Amniotic Membrane Allograft which is more commonly referred to as stem cell treatment, and BioCorRx which is an alcohol and opiate addiction medical rehabilitation treatment.
HORMONE REPLACEMENT THERAPY The correlation between hormone balance and good health has been scientifically proven many times over. BioTE is a hormone pellet therapy that combines appropriate hormones including testosterone with vitamins and minerals. Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) is not only one of the best anti-aging treatments available, but it will also reduce joint and muscular pain, increase vitality and energy, and of course improve libido and overall quality of life. For people who may be searching for the fountain of youth, HRT may be the closest thing on the market. And in Louisiana, the only place you can find BioTE is at Global Medical Center.

STEM CELL THERAPY For over 30 years, stem cells from bone marrow have played an import ant role in medical science. However, amniotic stem cells have proven to be much more powerful and beneficial. GMC uses Surforce which is the high est quality flowable amniotic mem brane allograft on the market. It’s no exaggeration to call Amniotic Stem Cell Therapy (SCT) the miracle cure for ulcers, arthritis, pain, inflammation….. it can actually grow, repair, and restore soft tissue! Dr. Peyroux understood the full potential of SCT when his motherin-law opted not to have a second surgery for a knee replacement. Instead, she tried SCT and physical therapy with huge success!
Naltrexone is a medication that blocks the effects of opioids and was approved by the FDA for the treatment of alcohol dependence. BioCorRx is a long-term, yet cost-effective alcohol recovery program. Global Medical Center offers this highly effective naltrexone implant that significantly reduces cravings for alcohol and opiates for as long as a year. This treatment has an 85% success rate which is much higher than most traditional addiction treatment centers. This addiction treatment offers patients a way to live a happier, healthier, more productive lives away from the damaging effects of drugs and alcohol. Global Medical Center has become a full service Primary Care facility that can service your cosmetic needs such as botox as well as your day-to-day health needs such as diabetes and blood pressure checks or the flu. As a medical integrated clinic, GMC can also take X-rays, and does blood and lab work. They accept most major medical insurances. The hours are 8:30 to 5, but their appointments are flexible. If you’re interested in learning more about Global Medical, contact them at 985-641-4898, or stop by Monday through Friday at the office on Old Spanish Trail. Expect the staff at Global Medical to be friendly; there’s a real deep-south atmosphere here!
Dr. Peyroux and Dr. Smith are the BEST. They go above and beyond to get you back to normal…better than normal!”….. Joshua Pearl
