So What?
Hello all, and welcome to the first issue of UMAmi: a monthly music zine via the Oklahoma Underground Music Archive. Who are we? The official, formal version is that the OK UMA is a local cultural history project started by the Special Collections and Research Department in the Metropolitan Library System of Oklahoma County. The Oklahoma subcultural or underground music scene has a rich history that we're preserving for future generations, as well as featuring the current bands and music scenes within our state.
The informal version is that we're a gaggle of people passionate about music and community. We mosh to the beat of our own drum. We're here for the quirky, weird, and off-the-beaten path (or hit list). We're not here to gatekeep, we welcome all who wish to join in and jam.
So grab your instrument of choice (mic, sharpie, casette tape, whatever you prefer) and let's make something awesome together. -The OK UMA Roadies
