PUBLISHER’S NOTE

“I truly believe you never take a horse out of his game. No matter how you try strategizing, it doesn't work. If the horse wants to run close to the lead, you let him run close to the lead. He has to run the style that makes him comfortable.” -Nick Zito, legendary horse trainer Born in Brooklyn, Nick Zito grew up around horses at Aqueduct race track in Queens, and knew from an early age that he wanted to spend his life around these majestic animals. In a profession that can often be inhumane and heartbreaking, Zito stands out as a horse trainer with a big heart. The world of horses has treated Zito kindly. Take a walk with Nick throughout Saratoga with his business partner Robert DiPippo of ZD Racing & Horse Management, and the old horse trainer stops to talk with everybody and anybody. They all want to ask him about his life’s passion—horses. Zito has that face that people know - he is a major celebrity in the horse game and he’s still humble and kind as hell. He grew up modestly and got to the top of the Horse Racing business the right way. One winning race at a time. He’s won well over 2,000 races to date. His secret? Nick Zito has a huge heart - and the experience and eyes to recognize a champion thoroughbred. Secretariat had a huge heart too. Literally. It was twice as big as other horses and that made all the difference —and horse-racing history as well. Sports enthusiasts/businessmen like Adam Weitsman and David Portnoy are just two of the shrewd investors that know that a horse vetted and trained by Nick Zito is always going to be a smart bet. 2024 is here and we are off to the races with some amazing content for all horse-lovers and fans of our industry-leading luxury-business magazines. Enjoy!

EDITOR’S NOTE
25A
Can’t repeat the past?…Why of course you can!” -Jay Gatsby When Metropolitan Magazine first hit the scene in 1895 it was an instant sensation. It featured photographs of the world’s most beautiful women and articles by some of the greatest writers of the next 25 years, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Joseph Conrad, Rudyard Kipling and Jack London just to name a few. Metropolitan, Metropolitan Palm Beach and 25A Magazine (named after the spectacular mansions of the Gold Coast of Long Island that Fitzgerald wrote about in The Great Gatsby), continue to be relevant in 2024, because like Jay Gatsby, our publisher, Chase Backer, knows no other way than to create and build and pursue greatness daily. That pursuit of greatness just led Chase to develop a new friendship with our latest cover star, and horse racing legend, Nick Zito. The Triple Crown-winning trainer and his business partner Robert DiPippo are on the lookout for the next Secretariat. If you love everything horses, you are going to love this issue. And if you love Palm Beach, then our 2024 Palm Beach Power List ought to give you something to talk about over your morning coffee. Grateful to our loyal readers for their helpful input on this year’s list and their role in making Metropolitan the shining green light on the dock that we aim to be, by inspiring us daily to try to be the best. Enjoy! & Happy New Year!

REGINE GUEVARA

From Runway Model to Media Producer Asia TV founder Regine Guevara on pushing art & cultural diversity across continents through art, fashion, music and creativity. Life is more worthwhile when you have found the driving force of all your thoughts, words and actions – your purpose, your calling. Not all people are gifted with the inner knowing of such, but some are blessed beyond belief to have found the mission of their existence. Before she became the Philippine secretariat of UNESCO Artist for Peace Organization, Regine Guevara was a runway model turned media producer. In 2020, she founded AsiaTV, a media production company engaged in creating music videos, fashion shows and art exhibits, all meant to push advocacies important to her. “My mother has always been my inspiration when I founded AsiaTV. She started as a titled beauty queen and supermodel, turned producer of fashion shows in the Philippines,” Regine shared. “We launched AsiaTV with UNESCO in 2020, with the vision to use arts as a unique weapon to stand up for worthy causes like women's rights, world peace and environment conservation. We have produced fashion shows in Morocco and Asia, advocating diversified beauties, as well as art exhibits. Recently, we covered the Miss Universe pageant in Brazil.”
“The first fashion show I produced under AsiaTV was at my second home after the Philippines, which was Morocco. We brought indigenous fabrics from the post-conflict area of Bangsa Moro Philippines to a private viewing at the Royal Mansour, in collaboration with the Philippine Embassy in Morocco and Duty Free. We were aiming to create a space for rising designers to network at the global market. It was a pledge that elegant design goes beyond mainstream fashion weeks, and can break the silos in often-forgotten spaces where real stories of color, fabric and design are found,” she said. Guevara, who was a former runway model herself who has walked for Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week, Istanbul Fashion Week, as well as high-end fashion shows in Manila at age 16, has always seen fashion as another form of expression and art. At the early age of 20, through her mentorship from the annual Marketplace of Creative Arts, which later transitioned to UNESCO, Regine has worked with over a hundred artists from fashion, art to music. She produced her first fashion show at the King of Morocco's Royal Mansour Mansion in Marrakesh, featuring the works of award-winning social entrepreneur and Saudi-Filipino designer HersLaha. Self-expression, creativity and art have always been the pulse of her own media company AsiaTV. Under AsiaTV, she has produced runways shows, art exhibits, and most recently, music videos

in different international locations featuring the work of Pan-African artist Xander Pratt. Guevara’s ruthless creative execution of the music video production of Pratt’s music has not only featured the musician’s artistry, but also gorgeous tourist attractions across the Philippines, Malaysia and Singapore. “We are fortunate to be managing the tour of international artist Xander Pratt, whose album ‘Fireflies’ was dedicated to my late father. It is an album of light, with 17 original songs he wrote that were meant to capture real life stories of love, identity, success, failure, hope, and faith. With Pratt awarded as Ambassador of Tourism Culture and Peace in the Philippines, the music production aspect AsiaTV has done for Pratt is a journey that has built capacities
of artist livelihoods and local governments towards natural and cultural heritage around the Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, Russia, Brazil, the UAE and Morocco,” she said. Before all her creative endeavors with AsiaTV, Guevara has always been a peace activist, doing meaningful work with ASEAN and the United Nations in its New York office and across the globe. She has been active in pushing several advocacies such as cultural diplomacy, sustainable peace and development across the Global South regions. “Traveling the world enabled me to build upon my parents' legacies of social work, charity and advocacy at a global platform like the United Nations,” she shared. Before working for the United Nations in New York, Guevara graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Development Studies, with a minor in Feminist Theory, at the Jesuit Ateneo de Manila University, and a Master of Arts in Conflict Resolution from the Jewish secularrun Brandeis University. She also completed the Islamic Gift Economy at the Center for Applied Sciences and Islamic Civilization, and the Programs on Negotiation and Mediation at the Harvard Law School, and worked as a journalist in Jerusalem. She learned to speak Arabic, Hebrew, Spanish, Russian, Japanese and Bahasa Melayu.
Professionally, Regine has worked as a Communications Consultant for the USAIDASEAN Youth Volunteer Programme in Kuala Lumpur, as the Communications Officer. In New York, she served as Special Projects Officer for United Nations Women and United Nations Habitat, as well as project consultancies with different UNESCO-affiliated entities. Currently, she sits as the Secretariat of the UNESCO International Theatre Institute in the Philippines. After her work with the UN and UNESCO, Guevara now intends to push the same causes through creativity and art with her media work under AsiaTV. Recently, AsiaTV studios was awarded by Gawad Pilipino as “Most Trusted Asian Media” in 2023, a powerful feat since the media company’s conception in 2020. Currently in Dubai, she reconnected to her first creative passion: fashion. She has been signed by a modeling agency in Dubai as a model and trainer for personality development and women entrepreneurship. She is also bringing the Xander Pratt Fashion Collection to the first sustainable resort in Siargao Island in the Philippines. “My work with the United Nations has enabled me to see the big picture of global governance, while my life as an artist through AsiaTV has empowered me to see real people as they are. This hybrid world of art and cultural diplomacy is a powerful tool to achieve sustainable peace. Be it strutting the runway as a young Asian woman, or writing human stories of change at refugee camps as a journalist in Jerusalem, or speaking in front of the UN secretary general, I continue to learn that humanity is not just about our similarities, but our differences that pushes growth, and growth that pushes creativity,” she said. Her diverse social and creative work across the globe have exposed her to the many tribulations of the human race from different parts of the world– motivating her to push worthwhile campaigns and fundraisers for and beyond the UN, all championing the power of art and creativity in addressing such human ills.

IN SEARCH OF THE NEXT SECRETARIAT:
LEGENDARY HORSE TRAINER
NICK ZITO
OPENS UP ABOUT ZD HORSE RACING & MANAGEMENT By Adam Kluger
"He looks like a Roll Royce in a field of Volkswagens." --Chick Lang, Pimilico Park Manager, on Secretariat ur publisher and gentleman farmer Chase Backer loves all animals but he has a special affinity for horses. So, Chase has been especially excited about our latest cover story on horses and the elite horse experts who train and race them. Before I knew it the race had begun and I was on the phone with Chase's long-time business associate Robert DiPippo and Robert's world famous business partner, the mild-natured horse whisperer and legendary Hall of Fame Horse trainer, Nick Zito, talking about arguably the greatest horse of all time, Secretariat, who won the Triple Crown in 1973 at Belmont Stakes by obliterating the previous track record and pulling away from the field by thirty lengths. "A machine," Zito mused wistfully in remembering Big Red. "It's a majestic sport. There's quite a bit of romance to racing." It's not so much what Mr. Zito told us in our initial chat about Secretariat and other horses, it's more about the way he spoke. Calm. Knowing. Wise. Kind-spirited. It's clear that horses like Nick Zito almost as much as he relates to them. For all those thrilling minutes at a racetrack where thoroughbred horses with jockeys atop run so powerfully and wildly that they take our collective breath away, Nick Zito truly enjoys the peaceful hours, days, weeks, months, years, a lifetime, really, being around horses, studying them. Getting to know them. Connecting with them. Protecting all the horses in his care while taking into account all the available clues, science and
information, like a NASA scientist, to lead him to that next Secretariat.
"My typical day is all day long being around the horse business being around the horse game," says Zito," As a young guy I just fell in love with horses. I always liked horses no matter what it was in my blood and when I went to the racetrack as a little pup it just got in my blood and it's something I had to do and I was lucky I found something to love and something to do." Zito's business partner DiPippo credits Zito with being one of the world's top evaluators of horses, "Nick has the instinct for identifying a horse because he has been doing it for so long. You can have all the analytics you want but you have to have the eyes to look at that horse and examine that horse and see the way that horse walks." Zito adds, "If you ask any coach or trainer to look for the next Michael Jordan, Patrick Mahomes, Tiger Woods, or Shohei Ohtani, you just look for it and hope that you get it." Nick Zito's resume is the stuff of legends. Zito is a Hall of Fame trainer whose accolades are plentiful, including winning all three legs of the Triple Crown. Zito broke into the business with a claiming stable in the 1970s, working his way from the bottom up. His first winner was Palais at Liberty Bell Park in Philadelphia in December 1972. However, through years of hard work and dedication, Zito became a twotime Kentucky Derby-winning trainer and January 2024

a trainer of many top horses. The key horse in building Zito's reputation as a top stakes trainer was the colt ThirtySix Red. He selected Thirty-Six Red for $92,000 at the Keeneland September yearling sale in 1988 for owner Giles Brophy. In 1990, the colt won the Wood Memorial Stakes, ran second in the Belmont Stakes, and was third in the Breeders' Cup Classic. He captured the Run for the Roses in 1991 with Strike the Gold and in 1994 with Go for Gin, sent out Louis Quatorze to take the 1996 Preakness, stopping Wayne Lukas' streak of six straight Triple Crowns wins, and his two improbable victories in the Belmont Stakes prevented Triple Crown sweeps. Each of his horses went off at odds of 36-1 or more. Birdstone ($74) ended Smarty Jones' Triple Crown bid in 2004, while Da'Tara ($79) scored a 38-1 upset in the 2008 Belmont when Kentucky Derby/Preakness winner Big Brown did not finish the race. Nick Zito says he paid his dues. He started from
the bottom and he worked his way up. He was fortunate to meet three Presidents of the United States and says he was fortunate to get into the Hall of Fame. A humble guy who is arguably Saratoga's top celebrity, Nick Zito still feels like he is living a dream. "Strike the Gold was our first Derby winner," says Zito,"and that was quite an amazing scenario for me. General Schwarzkopf had just come back from the war. We had Desert Storm I believe. That was in '91...I got to meet him. Talk to him. I was very excited about that. He saluted me when we won it and I was up at the podium with him so that was pretty special for me. When you meet a General of that magnitude that was special." The latest whisperings by horse industry insiders are that New Yorkbased businessman Adam Weitsman
and Barstool Sports Owner David Portnoy have purchased a promising 1-year-old Racehorse at the 102nd Saratoga Sale. To hedge their bets, Weitsman and Portnoy are relying on top talent to ready the thoroughbred for racing in 2024. The 1-year-old yearling was vetted and procured by ZD Horse Racing and Management, owned by legendary, Hall of Fame horse trainer Nick Zito and Vice President Robert DiPippo. According to Zito, "we've had years of experience and my background training triple crown horses, training horses that won a Kentucky Derby, won the Preakness, won the Belmont, won all the big races, so that experience is vital in the horse business. Robert DiPippo brings business. Period. From the world of finance and just business sense he's a very good person when it comes to that. So, this combination is very good." January 2024

Their business mission? "ZD horseracing and management will make your experience in purchasing a horse a fun one. Travel with Hall of Famer Nick Zito and business executive Robert DiPippo to some of the most beautiful places in the U.S. and Europe to purchase your horse. Your horse will be trained by some of the most experienced horse trainers in the country. You could be part of racing history forever," says Dipippo with the enthusiasm of someone who loves what he does and loves working with educated horse lovers and investors. For Dipippo, his love of horses also started early on,"when I was a kid we used to have a summer home out in the Hamptons and my father and mother would take us to the horseback riding stables and we would go horseback riding, and to me, it was just beautiful and I've ridden all over the country. The majestic nature of horses is just incredible." When you listen to Dipippo and Zito talk horses there is the unbridled enthusiasm of the younger partner and the kind encouragement of the wise elder. a winning team ready to make another run for the roses in 2024. "We're trying to do something different in the game," says the horse training legend Nick Zito, and with that, he's off the phone to speak with a veteranarian, and go check on one of his horses.

COWBOYS
TRAILERS AND RANCHES
Jimmy, tell us a little bit about yourself. I was pretty much born a cowboy. I showed cattle growing up, rodeo’d while serving in the Air Force, worked on ranches, modeled western fashion, and couldn’t be happier than in the saddle working cattle. What was the inspiration for your new show, Cowboys, Trailers, and Ranches? I wanted to celebrate and showcase the real Western industry and culture. There are so many stories that go untold and I wanted to change that. Everyone loves Yellowstone and I wanted to highlight the real-life version of that.
What is the perfect Saturday night for you? Two-stepping with my wife, Vanessa, a nice fire in the fire pit, and a bottle of Orin Swift wine (yes, cowboys drink wine!) or Pendleton Whisky. What are you most proud of when it comes to business? My wife, Vanessa Nunez, and I are building a legacy. With our real estate company, Ranch Texas, this show and more projects in the works, we are scaling our business with integrity and grit. We walk and talk the western lifestyle in everything we do and we aren’t stopping anytime soon!
What's one thing we'd never guess about you? My passion is preserving the western culture but I also love the island vibe...that's why they call me the island cowboy! Watch Cowboys, Trailers, and Ranches on YourHomeTV.com, follow along at @cowboystrailersandranches and @ranchtexas, and get in touch at www.RanchTexas.com and Keep It Western, y’all! January 2024

Berkshire HorseWorks Horses Facilitating Change Berkshire HorseWorks, Inc., a 501c 3 founded in 2013 and located in Richmond, MA, is a mission-driven nonprofit, offering experiential Eagala Model and Eagala-based Equine Assisted educational and therapeutic activities, workshops in team building and skills development for organizations of all kinds, trail ride lessons, and life skills curriculum for children, families and those at risk with mental health and behavioral challenges. Our Mission To transform lives through the powerful interaction with horses. Our Vision Berkshire HorseWorks cultivates the tools to cope, heal, compete, challenge, communicate, lead, empathize and thrive in today’s world. Horses facilitate change. Though ground-
based metaphorical activities, BHW hopes to help augment, in a new way, the wellness and vitality of one’s own heart, the heart and soul of others, and the heart of our vibrant community. Our Impact Through your generous donations, grants, and participation in recreational activities - Berkshire HorseWorks is able to provide programs to those in need at greatly reduced or no cost. BHW believes that every individual, regardless of economic status, should have access to health and wellness activities that increase their ability to manage and excel in an ever-changing world. Community programs are offered on a sliding scale so everyone can cultivate skills and relationships that last a lifetime. How We Work Berkshire HorseWorks was founded in 2013 with a focus on providing highly effective, evidence-based Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) and Equine Assisted Learning (EAL) programs with Eagala Certified professionals. Over the past decade, BHW has evolved to meet up with the changing needs of the community and now offers a range of programs including traditional EAP & EAL, as well as Eagala-informed activities such as Equine Assisted Team building (EAT) for corporations, youth summer programs, and family experiences, among others.
64 Metropolitan Magazine | metmagny.com
Eagala programming is not a riding or horsemanship program: all legs are on the ground, human and horse side by side, ready to learn. The emphasis is on non-mounted activities which incorporate horses and require individuals or groups to discover and apply certain skills. Participants learn about themselves and others by connecting with the horses and then observing and discussing the team dynamics, behaviors, and patterns that arise. What happens in the arena is often a metaphor for one’s life, family or group interaction. With the goal of taking a holistic approach to mental health – addressing not only the symptoms of mental illness but also the underlying causes and contributing factors – our vision is to create a community where mental health is a top priority and individuals can access the resources they need to achieve optimal well-being.

JARED TURNER social impact entrepreneur
J
ared Turner is a CEO and social impact entrepreneur interested in delivering high impact results that positively affect people, communities and animals around the globe. Throughout his career, he has been an urban farmer, international attorney, conservationist, and C-suite executive of billion-dollar brands. He is currently CEO of Amare Global, a Mental Wellness Company, and founded Zulu Piri Piri Chicken Grill, an Africa-inspired fast casual restaurant that provides meals to orphans in Johannesburg. Formerly president and chief operating officer at Young Living Essential Oils, Turner grew the company from $200 million to $2+ billion along with a fantastic team of corporate and direct-selling field leaders. In 2021, he founded Voice of the Vanishing to directly benefit critically endangered species with 100% sustainable activewear. Voice of the Vanishing is Turner’s passion project. It blends designer ‘fits with effortless fashion made from sustainably sourced, American-made materials. It has a low carbon footprint and a high impact on saving animals from extinction. Voice of the Vanishing donates 51% of each purchase to support a conservation organization around the world. Jared has already grown Voice of the Vanishing with a caring community of people to help endangered animals and give back. Now, Jared is looking to 2024, building upon that
success, expanding the Voice of the Vanishing line through zoo and aquarium partnerships, aligning with their conservation efforts to work together to bring greater awareness and education to these endangered animals, while providing funds for their protection
VOICE OF THE VANISHING The Earth-first fashion brand, Voice of the Vanishing, donates 51% of its profits to animals on the critically endangered species list There’s a lot of buzz about brands that help make the Earth a better place for the people, but what about for the animals that keep this wild world, well and thriving. Social Impact Entrepreneur Jared Turner wanted to attach a greater purpose to green fashion as it pertains to supporting critically endangered species. What if there could be an elevated clothing company that provided the activewear vibe of Supreme with the drive of a conservation organization? What if there was a way to empower customers seeking cool styles to speak out against extinction? What if there could be a Voice of the Vanishing? Voice of the Vanishing is Turner’s passion project. It blends designer ‘fits with effortless fashion made from sustainably sourced, American-made materials. It has a low carbon footprint and a high impact on saving animals from extinction. Voice of the Vanishing donates 51% of each purchase to support a conservation organization around the world.
One of the most unique aspects of outfitting one’s closet with Voice of the Vanishing, is it also amplifies people’s voices with the personal choice to help an animal when they make a Voice of the Vanishing purchase. It’s not just one sweeping donation at the end of the day, but a designated donation to each customer’s animal of choice. To focus its efforts and have a greater influence, Voice of the Vanishing created Ark 15. Ark 15 is a Voice of the Vanishing initiative that steers the brand’s resources to save 15 species found on the critically endangered species list. Critical endangerment classifies animals that will be completely wiped out in the next few years if nothing is done. Customers can choose which animal from the list they want their new clothes to support: the BlueThroated Macaw, Malayan Tiger, Black Rhino, Forest Elephant, Cross-River Gorilla, Brown Spider Monkey, Bornean Orangutan, Hawksbill Turtle, Kakapo, North Atlantic Right Whale, Northern White-Cheeked Gibbon, Panama Golden Frog, Philippines Eagle, Pygmy ThreeToed Sloth or the Sunda Pangolin. The money Voice of the Vanishing donates to conservation organizations can help develop nature reserves, combat poaching, spread awareness and much more.

Interview with
KATHY IRELAND By Adam Kluger
hat do you do to celebrate the season? Any long-standing family traditions? What’s it like in the Ireland household this time of year? K: Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas! In our family, we are blessed to have some wonderful annual traditions. Of course, we love decorating the Christmas tree and having our cherished family dinner where everyone makes something special. Sometimes we host at our home and other times we go to Mom’s, who will always be our angel and matriarch. One very special tradition in our family is that we love watching the sunrise on the beach … one of the benefits of living in sunny Santa Barbara, California! For us, Christmas is a time of great J-O-Y (an acronym we use for Jesus, Others, You) … and celebrating the greatest tradition of all - gratitude.
A: What projects and/or charities have you been especially involved with in 2023? K: 28 years ago, our company began hosting an annual event called kathy ireland Children’s Christmas Celebration with Elise Kim-Nelson, leader and cofounder of Athletes and Entertainers for Kids and 911 for Kids. Elise began these Christmas parties for children in need 37 years ago and continues celebrating with us today! These are wonderful events where we honor precious children who won’t have the privilege of experiencing a traditional Christmas due to home life circumstances or a lack of resources. The joy this program brings to these incredible children is truly a special gift for our team of volunteers each year. As International Youth Chair for the National Pediatric Cancer Foundation, raising awareness to the need for funding is always top of mind. Tragically, less than 4% of the billions of dollars raised
annually go toward treating childhood cancer, with less than 10 drugs having been developed for use in children with cancer since 1980. As a way to contribute funds to nonprofit initiatives, our team has developed a credit card processing company called ireland Pay, where 51% of our proceeds go directly toward supporting organizations such as the National Pediatric Cancer Foundation, to help fund their research and bring an end to childhood cancer. A: How pleased are you to see the amazing growth of YourHomeTV.com in 2023? Why do you think family-friendly streaming content is so popular these days? Why are you excited about the YourHomeTV.com platform and the amazing executive team and content creators? It really feels like a family or special community of show hosts dedicated to helping folks and making the world a better place. What’s your thought on that? January 2024

As a non-subscription based OTT channel, we are thrilled to see Your Home TV programs, content, sponsors and viewership grow at such an alarming rate. This platform provides an affordable opportunity for influencers, storytellers, film producers and podcasters to receive a higher streaming compensation, while retaining full ownership of their content. Our goal with this platform is to provide a space for family friendly content to be enjoyed. Now more than ever families are in need of positive, educational and uplifting content from a platform they can trust and that’s what we are providing at Your Home TV through the growing relationships we are building around that initiative. A: What’s the secret to your phenomenal business/branding successes? - you are one of the top brands in the world! 72 Metropolitan Magazine | metmagny.com
K: You are so kind … we still feel like a baby brand! There is so much we have yet to accomplish, however, in growth we have been exposed to needs so much greater than our own. Everyday we seek to “Teach, Inspire, Empower, Make Our World Better”, in business you must be bold and unwilling to fold to failure, yet you must also have boundaries in place, because they will be tested. Be intentional. If you don’t hear ‘no’ every day, you’re not trying hard enough! Always be ready and willing to pivot, diversify your ventures. Invest in people. Our team has won awards for inclusivity over the years. Every unique individual contributes in a powerful way. A: Any maxims or advice you can offer on additional best business practices? K: People over profits. How people are treated has always been at the forefront of our business. We have spent more money on our human rights contracts than any other company we are aware of. Consider others
as more important than yourself, this is key to building strong relationships. Keep integrity and your work ethics intact. So what if that means working a little harder? Honorable character is your best calling card and that’s something anyone can have! A: How do you stay in such amazing shape, look so beautiful and maintain such an active life and demanding career? K: Don’t see this shape as beautiful, though if you mean in the way that every human is, can accept that! Like many of us, there are times when weight gets out of control, which can have a great impact on heart health. Heart disease disproportionately affects women after the onset of menopause. There are many theories about that, including a belief that once menstruation ceases, there can be a greater buildup of iron in the body. Women die of heart disease less than men, until we reach a certain age … then we catch up. We may disagree on many points, though one thing am truly grateful
for is Barbra Streisand’s commitment to this initiative through her Women’s Heart Center at Cedars-Sinai, as well as her work for the Dream Foundation, which we helped develop from its inception. A: Any health/diet/exercise tips you could share? K: Hiking, cycling, swimming, surfing … can’t stand the word diet! Am a firm believer in portion control and fitness through activities you love! As a certified fitness instructor, there is a natural passion to advocate for healthy lifestyles for women and families, which is attainable for everyone through proper education. A: Any New resolutions?
Year’s
goals
or
K: Every year there are new challenges to battle and new dreams to realize. The current daily goal is to become closer in a growing relationship with Jesus Christ. Faith, family and then the business … everything else falls into place when those priorities are in order. It is with Him that each year begins and ends! A: What do you do for fun to relax or unwind?
K: There are too many to choose from, however, here are four favorite quotes from scripture that guide each day. Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him and He will make your paths straight ” Joel 2:25 “And I will restore the years that the locust have eaten”
K: Love going to the beach with our children when they visit, surfing with Greg and friends, chasing after our four-legged loved ones in the sand! Spending time with those you love most is the best way to relax and unwind!
Luke 7:47 “The one who is forgiven much, loves much”
A: Favorite mantra, saying/words of advice?
“All that you give is all that you get, so give it all you’ve got!”
2 Timothy 1:7 “For God gave us a spirit not of fear, but of power and love and self control”

en Sams is a NYC based ‘Live Radio & TV’ personality currently hosting the top rated iHeartRadio show “A Moment of Xen” Saturday nights from 9 to 10 PM EST on 710 WOR/The Voice of New York/ iHeartRadio. This show is a quad hybrid model covering everything from film, Fashion, pop culture, crypto currency, health, cannabis, and fintech from the millennial mom’s perspective. The actress, model mentor, and supermom Xen Sams brings live entertainment weekly. The show gets repurposed over several OTT and OTA platforms including Your Home TV with Kathy Ireland, TraverseTV., Fintech.TV, The New York Stock Exchange, and worldwide streaming reaching over 2 million people per week.
Who is Xen Sams? I am a live iHeartRadio and TV personality in the tri-state area. My show "A Moment Of Xen " is on iHeartRadio and goes live Saturday nights from 9 to 10 PM on 710 WOR, a 100-yearold radio station known as the voice of New York. I cover everything from film, fashion, pop, culture, cryptocurrency, cannabis, and health from the millennial moms perspective. I have been on air at iHeart for 4 years. We are considered 'experts on the mic' and interview experts, celebrities, VIPs, and Alpha level management across major corporations. How do you balance everything as a mom, wife, IHEART radio host, actress, philanthropist, and business visionary? Finding the balance is the hardest part. It’s all about time management, discipline, and consistency. Setting priorities straight is key.
My priority is balancing family and work and making sure everyone is happy. I do everything with passion and give the best version of myself to every situation. I always focus on maintaining a balance between my work, kids, and husband. I find that weekends are a great opportunity to catch up on quality family time. You not only have brought your show A Moment of Xen to the iHeart platform but to Your Home TV as well. Why is Your Home TV such a special community? Why do you think tens of millions of viewers are loving the platform and its family-friendly content? Your home TV is an incredible platform. It's free programming and available 24 /7. Kathy Ireland is the world's #14th most powerful brand. This is one of her latest endeavors, with nearly 40 channel partners on the platform. The main reason they've been successful in such a short January 2024

time is because of Your Home TV's proprietary business model. It's filled with family friendly content that streams 24/7 and services many households internationally. Our show is one of the top-rated shows on the platform; we trend extremely well in the 'Endutainment' format. Any health/beauty tips you can share with out readers? Due to a trip and fall accident in 2012, I now have metal in my face. I have a metal plate under my orbital and screws down my nasal passage due to a maxillofacial fracture. Even though I did not need plastic surgery, I did have surgery done internally through my pallet. I suffered for one year and it took me a while to bounce back. I resort to cannabis therapy for facial twitches, and am extremely passionate about medicinal cannabis as it has anti-inflammatory properties and incredible mental health benefits. I'm also completely obsessed with a new beauty product called CO2 lift. It's non-invasive and the most incredible aesthetic monotherapy you will ever treat your face with. It's carbon dioxide
therapy for the skin, noninvasive, and totally rejuvenating. That's my secret. What’s going on with your acting career? My acting career is still very much active. The latest film I am starring in is called ‘Tin Soldier’, featuring Jamie Foxx, Rita Ora, Scott Eastwood and Robert De Niro. It will be out in six months. Any new sponsors or advertisers you are excited about - how do you select which brands you want to work with? I work with so many sponsors and brands. Currently, we have "Hydration with Hart" segment by onceuponacoconut.com, the "Going Deep" segment by co2lift.com, "America's Favorite Pharmacist" with Phil Cowley (@philsmypharmacist), and "Discover Your Potential" with Anna Devere and Dan Gilman. We also have seasonal sponsors and advertisers we work directly with. Any future goals or projects in 2024? We will be nationally syndicated by Q3 of 2024! Very exciting stuff.

Why is NYC so magical around the holidays? There's no better place to be than New York City during the holidays. Fifth Avenue is decorated with the most incredible visual displays of the Christmas season. Bloomingdale's, Saks Fifth Avenue, Macy's, and Rockefeller Center have beautiful window displays that are all worth seeing. The hustle and bustle of the Christmas traffic is exhilarating. Radio city is always spectacular and the observation deck at 30 Roc is phenomenal.
My yearly tradition is always partaking in the Rockefeller Center tree lighting . My birthday happens to be November 29th making it a very special time of year. We always participate in the tree lighting festivities and celebrations surrounding Rockefeller Center. Xen Sams iHeart Radio & Tv Host www.aMoMentOfXen.com January 2024

CHART-TOPPER
PETER CINCOTTI
IS A KILLER ON THE KEYS AT CAFE CARLYLE By Adam Kluger beautiful day in Manhattan got even better when I was invited for espressos by my dear friend and NYC's best barber, Enrique Peralta, who is a neighborhood celebrity in his own right and the only place to go if you are anybody, for the best haircut in town. Enrique wanted to introduce me to his old friend, Peter Cincotti who will soon be tickling the ivories in October at the famed Cafe Carlyle. Peter, a piano prodigy, who turned the music world on fire with his first album that shot straight up to #1 on the Billboard Jazz charts, is probably the nicest and coolest music star you could ever meet. A: Enrique, how long have you known Peter? E: Has to be thirty years P: He's the neighborhood legend. There's no place like York Barber anymore or Enrique A: Enrique loves to play Tony Bennett and Sinatra while cutting hair and I bet he plays a lot of your music as well. E: So much P: Enrique keeps my music on rotation. A: Are you excited about performing at Cafe Carlyle from October 3rd through the 7th? P: I'm very excited I love playing the Carlyle, there is no place like it! The hotel has so much history and the Cafe is one of my favorite places to play. I grew up in the city playing clubs, one of which was the old Oak Room at
the Algonquin Hotel, known for Dorothy Parker and the Round Table. And now the Carlyle is the last man standing for that intimate, New York type of night, where you can actually put on a show, have a martini, eat, and be in a very special universe that you can't find anymore. A: Do you know the setlist yet? P: I'll do a bunch of songs from all my albums and focus on my new album which is called "Killer on the Keys" which honors piano players from all different generations from Nat King Cole to Billy Joel to Scott Joplin to Lady Gaga. I can take all these different musical artists and put them in a blender, along with some of my original songs. A: I love that you shot your "Killer on the Keys" music video in Washington Square Park. Why are your devoted fans going to be excited about your latest album? P: I've never really taken all those piano players that have influenced me and kind of honored them in this way before. You don't normally hear Oscar Peterson and Elton John in a sentence or Erroll Garner and John Lennon. My past records have been pretty diverse but this album kind of ties it all together. This also marks the 20th anniversary of my first record, so it's kind of full circle. A: What was it like to chart a #1 Billboard jazz album right out of the gate? P: I spent my whole life practicing hours and
hours at clubs and clubs but at the same time it did feel somewhat overnight. The attention that it got felt sudden although it wasn't as sudden as it was in the making for 20 years. I have been working on my music since I was three years old. I was at Columbia University at the time when I began touring, so, I had to shift to a music career and go on the road and travel and that's what I did. Music connects everybody and music is the universal language and you learn so much from touring and seeing the world. I remember in Japan on my first tour right around that time, I thought the audience hated the show because the way they received music in Japan was very different. It was very even-keel applause until the end... then they never seemed to stop applauding ... so they got three encores that night (laugh). That exposure to different cultures had a huge effect on my music and me. A: Enrique, when you get a celebrity in your barber chair like Peter Cincotti, is there a lot of pressure to deliver the perfect haircut every time? E: No pressure at all. (laugh) P: For the first album, 20 years ago, I got so many amazing comments about my hair, and Enrique is in the booklet if you look in the booklet. He was a big part of my visual look on that first album. Enrique and York Barbershop has been a pillar of this neighborhood for over 40 years. It has a familial feel of old New York, timeless, classic New York that is hard to find now.

CITIES WITHOUT PEOPLE
E
veryone’s a photographer now. Beguiled by landscapes, cityscapes, and the inadvertently abstract or minimalistic, we scurry about trying to achieve our daily quota of captures. But of course everything these days is tinged with the elegiac. Hence the pull of so-called liminal spaces: our photos of them seem like a form of predictive programming in that they present a world already devoid of people. Aesthetically that world has something going for it, even apart from the elements of the uncanny and the oneiric. I mean this world right in front of us, the one that already feels uninhabited. Filled with ruins that don’t yet look like ruins. People, even ghostly ones, just interfere with that kind of majestic bleakness. And this includes the
artist’s signature. If I could, I’d crop my own perspective, my own personality, out of every composition, but I haven’t figured out how to do that. Perhaps that’s why drone photography is so popular: the photographer isn’t even present at the site of conception. Occasionally there are human figures in these empty places. They’re good for scale. Or to add a fleck of color. If that sounds harsh, my only defense is that it represents a counterforce: the human is too overwhelmingly centered everywhere else—not only in art, but in our consciousness. Maybe one day I’ll be inspired to learn to shoot decent portraits, but then I’d still hope that the rest of reality— impartial, abiding, and slightly sinister in its indifference— can be sensed lurking heavily in the background.”

Festive cocktails and libations were accompanied by delicious appetizers such as beef filet crostini, mini crab cakes and mushroom and goat cheese tarts; all served by the Inn’s experienced and friendly team in the award-winning Claude’s restaurant. Following remarks by Gotthelf, Mayor Manger and Peter Michalos, two lucky guests won brunches for two at the restaurant. On departure, all guests were given Holiday Stockings with information and a reminder of the next meeting date in January.
