Tracy Anderson SHAPES NEW YORK

BY CAR R IE B UCKLE P HOTOGR APHY BY ZE V STAR R -TAMB OR

“O

n Saturday, we had a bunch of people over for dinner and I baked two cakes,” says Tracy Anderson of her weekend at home in Sag Harbor. “One was a vanilla caramel cake and one was chocolate. I really like to bake.” Then she laughs and says, “They were gluten-free, but they were definitely not sugarfree!” This is not what you might expect from fitness guru Tracy, who has built a global wellness empire and is known for sculpting the bodies of everyone from Gwyneth Paltrow to Jennifer Lopez. But once you get to know Tracy, you discover that not only does she have a sweet tooth (she always carries a stash of organic chocolate with her), she firmly believes that wellness is all about balance.

Living in Sag Harbor is integral to this balance. Tracy’s busy schedule takes her around the world, but she always returns to her happy place. When we sit down for our interview on a gray, balmy Monday morning, the mother of two has just spent the weekend with her five-year-old daughter, Penny, along with Panda, their long-haired Chihuahua puppy, at her Hampton’s home. The workout expert cherishes her weekends here because her weekdays are often jam-packed. Straight after our interview, she’s heading to Philadelphia, then New York City the following day, and Los Angeles on Friday. “Spending time with my family is the most relaxing thing to me,” says Tracy, 42, who also has a son, Sam, 18. “I probably filmed Penny dancing for a straight hour and a half on my phone yesterday. That was like meditation for me.” She continues, “We like to paddle board and do things outside,

“Penny actually brought into my life the one lesson that I was never able to learn: she taught me to stand up for myself ”

like go on little hikes, but mostly we pretty much stay home and just have fun.” The summers are especially busy for Tracy because she has two studios in the Hamptons – one in Water Mill, which she’s had for many years, and a second in East Hampton, which opened two years ago. “It’s off to a very busy start,” says the entrepreneur, who is most famous for developing the Tracy Anderson Method. “A lot of people who come to the Hamptons in the summer, they really take off from work. That’s not my reality because I work all summer, but it’s nice that my team and I can actually work outside on our computers.” The big news in Tracy’s world is her new East 59th Street flagship in Manhattan – housed in a former movie theater; it debuted in March this year. “What we’ve accomplished is really stunning,” she enthuses, frequently crediting her team who developed the studio. “It’s like an amazing ‘wellness haven’ where you get everything in a really authentic way. It’s my favorite studio that I’ve ever opened.” This will be the model for many more studios opening over the next few years. “We’re really setting the stage,” says Tracy. As well as offering classes and private training, the space has TA Café, which serves up organic coffee and smoothies as well as salads, soups, sandwiches and pasta. “The café is really exciting for us because we have the fitness perfected, and how you eat and how you move go hand in hand,” says Tracy, who recently launched two new flavors of her organic TA

Ultimate Clear Bars in Target. For the TA Café menu, she teamed up with her long-time friend and business partner Gwyneth Paltrow, who helped develop the menu. “The nice thing about Gwyneth and I, it’s like when you’ve been married to someone for a decade – you know if they don’t like mayonnaise,” she laughs, explaining that she can often predict what Gwyneth does or doesn’t like. Another significant woman in Tracy’s life is Jennifer Lopez, who is her only celebrity private client these days. They train together as often as possible, and Tracy always has one of her trainers travel with the 47-year-old singer. Just last week, Tracy trained with Jennifer in New York City, and she also works with her in Los Angeles and Las Vegas. “I train her all over the place, and she comes to the Hamptons in the summer,” explains Tracy. “She’s a sweetheart, and she’s so giving and smart. She’s such a good mom and really nurturing; she’s kind of just the ultimate woman.” Don’t be surprised if there are some big names on Tracy’s new radio show on SiriusXM, launching June 19. “I really don’t ever pimp out my clients on Instagram or anything like that. It’s just not my style,” she says. “But we are booking a lot of people that I have worked with over the years who are pretty influential.” The Tracy Anderson Show will air on Mondays at noon with a different guest and topic for discussion each week. It’s the first time that Tracy has hosted a show, and she’s excited about having a new voice. “I hate elevators more than anything because I’ve had very June 2017 | 35

bad experiences with them. And they were like, ‘Listen, we want to offer you this show, but you’re going to have to take an elevator.’ When I agreed, I realized that I wanted to do it pretty badly,” she says. What has made Tracy a stronger person is having her daughter, Penny, who recently celebrated her fifth birthday with “a massive kids’ dance party” at Tracy’s Water Mill studio. “Penny actually brought into my life the one lesson that I was never able to learn for myself: she taught me to stand up for myself,” says Tracy. “I’d always been bad at it; I’m not a confrontational person – up until having Penny. But there’s nothing like bringing a little daughter into this world… She really made my voice get strong.” Penny is well versed in Tracy’s Hamptons morning routine and often asks, “Mommy, are you going to go dance with the ladies?” For the past couple of summers, Tracy has changed up her workout gear. This began when her teenage son, Sam, who is graduating high school and preparing for college in New York City in the fall, asked her, “Mom, do you think you can not wear bikinis around my friends, please? Because it really bothers me when they say you look hot.” Tracy went and bought several one-piece bathing suits and started wearing them to classes with sweatpants over them so she could run home and jump straight into the pool with her kids. During the summer, Tracy enjoys hosting close friends at her home. “It’s kind of like a day of swimming turns into a barbecue,” she says. “Or we love to go out to eat. We have a few local spots that we like.” Her favorite place in Sag Harbor is Italian restaurant Dopo La Spiaggia, where her go-to dish is the poached Branzino. Back in New York City, Tracy’s new favorite place to eat is Cosme, world-famous chef Enrique Olvera’s contemporary Mexican restaurant. “I ate everything, I think! Their guacamole is beyond, and every single glutenfree dish is so good,” says Tracy, whose only two diet rules are gluten-free and organic when possible. Looking forward, Tracy is taking her first vacation for as long as she can remember at the end of July. “I am taking a total check-out vacation for the first time in so long,” she says of the eight-day trip to an undisclosed destination. “I cannot tell you my last proper vacation. Everything is work-cation for me, for many years. It was a big deal for me to take three days at Easter and go see my brother. I legitimately have been out of balance in the vacation department for a really long time.” While Tracy is certainly in need of some downtime, don’t expect her to be slowing down anytime soon. Her growing brand encompasses six studios in New York and Los Angeles (with more in the pipeline), dozens of fitness DVDs, sportswear and exercise equipment, a line of nutritional bars, the new radio show, and, of course, her global real-time video-streaming service, which reaches subscribers in more than 50 countries worldwide. However, her aim during her 18-year career has never been to take over the world. “If anything, I would like to be connecting the world through health, being a supporter and a leader,” she says passionately. “To really help people let their own light shine. My mission is not to take over anything, but to take it on.” tracyanderson.com

50 | MetMagNY.com | 25AMagazine.com

as a young chef living in Spain. During his time there, he had observed this style of cooking to which ultimately became his muse at Ortzi. The menu is a representation of this, including assorted dishes cooked in a cazuela, a Spanish terracotta cooking pot, a staple element to the menu allowing for traditional flavors with a modern take. To start your meal, the tapas menu offers a variety of inviting appetizers, especially the tapas a la planxa. For dinner, the Zarzula, or seafood stew, makes for a savory meal. Served with rice (similar to paella) topped with red prawns, mussels, calamari and thinly sliced Marcona almonds, it is the perfect twist on delicacy with elegance. Pair this with the perfect wine, one in which originates in the regions stretching from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pyrenees Mountains. Afterward, indulge in a heavenly Pastel Vasco for dessert, a mouthwatering Basque-style custard tart, with a taste of apricot, a hint of olive oil and crowned with a pistachio cream. Ortzi is ideal for any time of the day, offering not only

a delicious dinner, but the finest breakfast and lunch menus as well. ACME

A QUINTESSENTIAL NEW YORK EXPERIENCE BY WILLIAM NICHT E R

L

ocated on Lafayette Street in New York City, ACME combines Italian and French cuisine in order to create a dining experience that is uniquely New York. Under the guidance of Executive Chef Brian Loiacono, the restaurant offers options from pastas to steaks and fish and of course a large array of side dishes. By fusing two culinary traditions, Loiacono has developed a rich and elegant menu to suit any palate. ACME is run like a finely-oiled machine under Loiacono’s watch, who brings his years of culinary experience to bear in developing the new bistro-style menu. Trained in the Italian cooking tradition by birth and in the French by schooling, Loiacono has been working in restaurants since the age of 19, and his experience and skill is the essence of the restaurant. The menu covers a wide variety of items in different culinary styles. You can start your meal with an appetizer of Carrots roasted in three different spices, a wonderful Oysters Rockefeller, or even a Smoked

Trout Tabbouleh with beets and farrow. From there, you can move on to a Baked Rigatoni Pasta or a Risotto prepared with Ricotta Salada. You could also begin your meal with one of the house specialties, small plates that the restaurant takes special pride in. These include Pâtés of Pork and Foie Gras, or Beef Tartare with Aleppo Chili and Gem Lettuce. For your entrée, you have the option to choose between two different fish, or help yourself to a NY Strip Steak or Duck Breast with a piquant sauce. And for dessert, feel free to help yourself to Uncle Pete’s Ricotta Cheesecake with golden raisins, rum and Ritz crackers. As for beverages, ACME is well-served on that front as well. Dev Johnson has been brought on to handle the cocktails, and his creations are a blend of the classics, such as Negronis and Manhattans, and his own personal creations, such as the Cognac, ginger, lemon, and egg-white fusion known as the French Breakfast. If you are more in the mood for a more traditional drink, wine director Nicole Hakli has ensured that ACME

has a robust inventory of Old World-style wines for affordable prices, along with other wines brought in by consignment. There is no shortage of fine wine at this establishment. ACME even offers a downstairs bar, where patrons in the mood for a more relaxed and simpler affair can sample cocktails, wines and various small plates both from the restaurant and exclusively for the bar. The restaurant also offers brunch options, including a French omelet and coalcrusted burger that are utterly amazing. Whether you want a sit-down affair at an elegant restaurant or a quick stop at the bar before you head home, ACME is a bistro perfectly suited for whatever your dining needs may be. Stop by soon, and see what rich delights an Italian-American-born French-trained chef can provide for your palate that evening. 9 Great Jones St New York, NY 212.203.2121 acmenyc.com

Machiavelli

AUTHENTIC NORTHERN ITALIAN ON THE UPPER WEST SIDE BY MEGAN MANDR ACHIO

M

achiavelli is a restaurant that transports you from the bustling streets of New York City to Florence, Italy. It is the vision of owner Nathalie De La Fontaine, whose passion and inspiration derive from the extensive time she spent in Northern Italy, and her combined experience as manager and owner of popular Italian eatery La Focaccia in the West Village for 20 years. To make Machiavelli a reality, she commissioned the work of talented artisans, woodworkers, ceramicists, sculptors and blacksmiths for the art and décor of the restaurant. This includes everything from hand-carved chairs and wrought-iron candelabras to marble-topped tables and a vibrant painted rendering of “The Battle of San Romano,” by Renaissance artist Paolo Uccello. De La Fontaine is joined by Chef Gian Pietro Ferro, who reimagines classic Northern Italian cuisine and creates seasonal, market-driven dishes for the rotating menu with daily specials from various Italian regions. Ferro served as executive chef at Osteria al Doge and head chef of Fiorello’s, where he was praised for bringing revitalized energy into the established restaurant.

60 | MetMagNY.com | 25AMagazine.com

To begin this journey, choose from aperitivo, such as fresh, made-to-order Crescentines, traditional lightly fried flatbread, and a selection of Italian cheeses and meats. For antipasti, consider Sformato di Spinaci, a creamy and flavorful spinach and ricotta flan nestled beneath a truffle-scented fonduta cheese sauce, and elegantly dressed with swizzles of balsamic vinegar. The highlight of the Machiavelli menu is the showstopping handmade pasta dishes, such as Gnocchi Tricolore, made with pillowy gnocchi in spinach, potato and beet renditions, tossed in a golden heirloom tomato sauce that is equal parts zesty and flavorful. The Farfalle Nere al Salmone features farfalle pasta, creatively dyed with squid ink for an eye-catching appearance, tossed with tender Canadian salmon in a creamy pink sauce. The Casunzei “Ampezzani” is a dish taken straight from De La Fontaine’s memory of visiting the Dolomite region of the Alps, made with mezzaluna pasta filled with red beets and ricotta and coated in a light butter and poppy seed sauce. For entrees, choose from Pollo alla Chichi, breaded free-range chicken breast served Milanese style with baby arugula, onions and grape tomatoes, or the Petto d’Anatra con Fichi al Moscato, sautéed duck breast prepared with dried figs and a Moscato wine

sauce and served with roasted potatoes. The Zuppa di Pesce is a traditional Italian fish stew with mussels, clams, squid, shrimpsand scallops in a tomato wine broth. Various traditional vegetable side dishes are also offered, such as Funghi Trifolati, mushrooms sautéed with fresh herbs, garlic and truffle oil. The menu also includes pizza, prepared with a whole-wheat or traditional crust and extra-virgin olive oil, San Marzano tomatoes and fresh mozzarella. Add various toppings and combinations to create special versions, such as the Machiavelli, with a black truffle cream sauce, mozzarella and wild mushrooms, or the Macellaio, with caramelized red onion and Italian sweet sausage. The setting and cuisine are enhanced by a resplendent entertainment experience that features musicians and students from nearby Juilliard and Lincoln Center performing live music nightly and during brunch, and occasional opera.

Amaranth

MEDITERRANEAN EXCELLENCE ON MADISON AVENUE BY E LIZAB E T H DARWE N

I

conic Upper East Side restaurant Amaranth continues to thrive – even after 18 years in the business. Owners Paola Pedrignani and Francois Marchand, who recently marked the Mediterranean Bistro’s Anniversary with a glamorous celebration for over 500 of their most loyal customers, attribute its long-running success to “staying true to their Mediterranean roots and never compromising on quality.” Located just off Madison Avenue on 62nd Street, between Fifth Avenue and Madison Avenue, Amaranth offers a fusion of original Italian food and French food, with a large portion of specialty items imported directly from Italy and France. “We’re renowned for our classics, like our famous Focaccia Robiola, baked in our brick oven and served with Robiola cheese – there would be an outcry if we took this off the menu! But we also constantly evolve,” says owner Francois Marchand. Other fixtures on the menu include the Steak Tartare, which is prepared in front of customers to ensure freshness and the right balance of spices, and the Octopus Carpaccio – fresh, quality seafood from the Mediterranean served on a bed of greens.

62 | MetMagNY.com | 25AMagazine.com

There are also a number of healthy, light choices served with the highest quality ingredients – like the Whole Maine Lobster Salad, served with radicchio, endive, arugula, cremini mushrooms and citrus vinaigrette. The Pan Seared Nantucket Sea Scallops with mushrooms, braised leeks and lemon white wine sauce always impresses. Amaranth’s pastas are homemade and are available whole wheat and gluten free. The dessert menu is hard to resist – from the Mille Feuille Napolean with mixed berries and crème anglaise to the Cantucci al Vin Santo – a homemade biscotti served with Vin Santo Wine for dipping. Amaranth is named after the deep red-rose colored flowers of the Amaranth plant, owner Paola Pedrignani says. “The deep, wine red color is warm and welcoming – we thought it represents the way our restaurant feels brilliantly.” Customers come to Amaranth for the full dining experience – excellent service, elegant décor, and the casual, home-away-from-home feel. The restaurant’s charm has attracted a dedicated fan base of New Yorkers, Europeans, and celebrity clientele including the late Joan Rivers, Miranda Kerr, Orlando Bloom, former president of France Nicolas

Sarkozy, and many more. Regular visitors, Kevin O’Sullivan and partner Jim, who held the first New York State same-sex marriage at Amaranth on October 6, 2011, say they hold Amaranth in very high regard for “terrific service and wonderful food”. “It holds a very special place in our hearts – our wedding was one of the happiest days of our lives and the restaurant always reminds of that day,” says O’Sullivan. Amaranth is the perfect place to hold private parties and special celebrations. The team can organize private sit-down dinners and cocktail parties, with a special menu personalized by the chef. Amaranth staff love celebrating birthdays with customers. With sparkler candles and delicious Valhona Chocolate Cake, a birthday celebration at Amaranth will always be an unforgettable one.

New York Prime Beef THE BEST OF THE CITY BY RODNE Y SPAR ROW

N

ew York Prime Beef says they sell the best steak on the planet. “It’s not a humble statement; I’m aware of that, but I believe it,” says founder Vinny Pacifico. “If you can’t tell me that’s the best steak on the planet we didn’t do our job. If somebody is going to put down a $200, $400, $600 dollar bottle of wine for dinner, don’t you think they want the best steak? It just goes hand in hand. That’s who we’re going after.” The company dry-ages their steaks in a new stateof-the-art facility in the Bronx. Their butchers, the best in the country, custom cut each order, which they ship via Federal Express anywhere in the world.

Japanese Kobe One customer recently ordered $8,000 worth of Japanese Kobe - that’s six to eight steaks, depending upon how thick they are cut - to be delivered locally, to Westchester, New York. The delivery address turned

64 | MetMagNY.com | 25AMagazine.com

out to be the client’s Gulfstream Jet. “I don’t know where that went in the world, but I was pretty happy,” Pacifico says. “ Isn’t that cool? Wherever they were going they were taking the steaks with them.”

Chef Josh Tanner “It’s expensive and worth it,” says chef Josh Tanner, Pacifico’s partner, who is in charge of sourcing, selecting and aging New York Prime Beef’s products. “You’re spending more money, but you really are getting the crème de la crème. It’s the one percent of the one percent.” In their first year, they turned to the Hamptons to get their name out, partnering on luxury events with Rolls Royce, Maserati, Ferrari and other brands. “The Hamptons is where these people are in the summer that can afford this kind of product,” says Tanner. It worked well, and they will again have a presence around the Hamptons this summer, offering their wares at events where people can actually taste the

steaks. They’ve partnered with a local rum brand for a tasting at Shagwong Tavern in Montauk in May. That’s the easiest way for us to sell them,” Tanner says. “It’s one of those things where I literally have people say, ‘You call it the greatest steak on the planet,’ and they laugh and they say, ha! And then, they eat the steak and they say, ‘Wow, that’s literally the best steak I’ve ever had in my life’” he says. “They go to Peter Luger’s once a week and this is the best steak they’ve had in their life. I’m fairly happy with a response like that.”

New York Yankees They’ve also done events with renowned chefs, including Ricardo Cardona, who in addition to running restaurants privately cooks for everyone from Latin American presidents to entertainers, and is also the chef for the New York Yankees. “Ricardo uses New York Prime all the time,” Tanner says, adding, “He’s the guy who Marc Anthony has cook him dinner every night.” Newyorkprimebeef.com

BBQ Season

MAKING THE SIDE DISH A STAR

S

ummer is approaching, and everyone is thinking about outdoor entertaining. As people break out their grills and cook up proteins like chicken, burgers, hot dogs, or steaks, I want to inspire you to make the side dish just as important and exciting; specifically, different types of salads. It’s time to introduce some fun, healthy salads to your barbeque to delight your guests. Radishes tend to be a “sleeper” vegetable – no one gives them much thought, but they are actually amazing. You can create a salad with radishes alone by chopping them up with your favorite dressing, or try something unexpected like a watermelon radish carpaccio. To do so, thinly slice the radishes with a mandolin and serve them with a quality extra virgin olive oil, vinegar, sea salt, and black pepper. You can also serve radishes with herbed goat cheese and citrus to offset the bitterness of the vegetables. I recommend Watermelon, Daikon, French Breakfast, Cherry Bell, or Easter Egg radishes – they’re all fantastic and are beautiful in color. People are used to seeing basic green beans as a BBQ side, but there are so many varieties of green beans to choose from, such as edamame or sugar snap peas. Dress them in different ways, such as Dijon mustard, sherry vinegar, and sliced raw almonds, or sesame oil, apple cider vinegar, soy sauce, and toasted sesame seeds. Carrots are another fabulous veggie that can take center stage at a barbeque. You can shred them, use baby carrots, or try some more exotic breeds like purple, red, yellow, and white carrots. These vegetables can be grilled on the barbeque and served with a light

66 | MetMagNY.com | 25AMagazine.com

BY ANDREA CORREALE yogurt dressing. Try using some Moroccan spices in your dressing for extra flavor. Another fun take on pasta salads is not using pasta at all. Zucchini noodles are extremely trendy right now as a carb-free substitute. You can also make “noodles” with other vegetables, such as sweet potatoes or squash. Make that the base for your dish – serve them warm as an accompaniment for your protein, or serve it cold with fresh herbs, salt, pepper, olive oil, and a bit of vinegar. Tomatoes are always a favorite, and there are so many varieties to choose from. You can go the traditional route and do a Caprese salad with sliced beefsteak tomatoes, or try something a bit more colorful. Visit a local farm stand and pick up some heirloom tomatoes – they’re visually more interesting as they come in different colors, shapes, and sizes. I love adding a cheese element to tomato-based salads, such as ricotta, gorgonzola, or fresh mozzarella, and serving them with onion, olive oil, vinegar and fresh herbs. This is a great alternative to a green salad as it holds its integrity for hours with no wilting. Kale is still a favorite alternative to the typical mixed green salad but it can be a bit too hearty for some, I have a trick to make this healthy green at hit! Next time marinate fresh chopped kale overnight in your favorite vinaigrette and toss with salad toppings when you are ready to serve. The dressing will help breakdown the rough texture of the kale while infusing it with flavor your guests will want to know your secret! Finally, cauliflower makes a delicious side. You can actually slice the whole head of cauliflower into “steaks.” Marinate them with Asian or Indian flavors, or do your own take on a peppercorn-crusted steak. You can grill

them right on the barbeque and they make fabulous side dishes. Remember that you can keep most of these salads at room temperature. If you make them ahead of time, even better – they’ll take on more flavor that way. With fresh, beautiful vegetables, your salads will no longer be swept aside, they’ll be crowd favorites at your next barbeque!

Summer Skin

HOW TO LOOK GREAT THIS SEASON BY B RIT TANY MADRID

Exfoliate The combination of sun, sweat, and sunscreen can wreak havoc on skin. To defeat dullness and keep your skin looking and feeling baby smooth exfoliation from head to toe is your best transformation tool. I recommend performing the process 2-3 times per week depending on your skin type and sensitivity level. For the face Ole Henriksen Truth Sugar Glow Polishing Mask is my top choice because of it’s vitamin rich formulation and natural ingredients like yummy pomegranate, honey, and sugar. For a beautiful body I use Josie Maran Argan Sugar Balm Body Scrub made from 100% pure argan Oil and sugar crystals. This scrub not only buffs away dead skin, but the formulation is an ultra hydrating balm that feels super luxurious, which I much prefer to the dry scratchy

84 | MetMagNY.com | 25AMagazine.com

feeling of other popular scrubs I’ve tried in the past.

Moisturize With all of the exfoliation you’ll be doing, it’s important to use a super hydrating moisturizer to baby your freshly scrubbed skin. It’s best to choose a skin cream with hyaluronic acid as an active ingredient to plump and smooth your skin. This moisturizing secret weapon’s plumping powers come from it’s ability to hold 1,000 times it’s weight in water making it a powerful humectant. I’m a big fan of Peter Thomas Roth Water Drench Hyaluronic Cloud Cream for it’s delivery of the ultimate moisture infusion in a refreshingly lightweight gel formula.

*PRO-TIP: Pop your face cream in the refrigerator for the perfect pick me up at the end of a long hot day. For all over moisturizing my top pick is Murad

Collagen Support Body Cream, an intensely hydrating cream that leaves skin feeling super silky with the benefits lasting up to 24 hours. To maintain softness and sandal worthy toes all season sleep in socks and heavy foot cream 1-2 times per week. I love L’OCCITANE Shea Butter Foot Cream for it’s ultra rich moisturizing texture.

Protect Use Sunscreen daily on your face, body, and hands. We all know about the damaging effects of the sun. And finding the right products can make protecting your precious skin simple. Most of us forget to apply sunscreen to the backs of our hands even though they receive a lot of sun exposure and can be the biggest indicator of age when neglected. To keep your hands looking their best reach for Forever Young Hand Cream with Sea Buckthorn Broad Spectrum Sunscreen, SPF 40 from Supergoop! Apply this cream in the morning and then re-apply throughout the day for long lasting protection. To protect my face from sun damage I stick with City Skin Broad Spectrum Skin Defense SPF 50+ from Murad. This sunscreen goes beyond protecting against UVA/UVB rays to also shield skin from cellular damage

uring the summer months our skin is more exposed than at any other time of year. So when it comes to taking care of summer skin, pampering from head to toe is paramount. Here is my transformational skin regimen that will keep you glowing and gorgeous all season long:

caused by blue light, pollution, and infrared radiation. The Honest Company’s Mineral Sunscreen Spray SPF 30 is great for quick drying all over application. This product protects skin from the sun with the help of the mineral Zinc Oxide. Utilizing minerals as the active ingredient rather than harsh chemicals makes this product one of the better choices for regular use all over the body.

Glow A good self-tanner can boost skin radiance and act as a figure-flattering tool, both enhancing the look of existing muscle tone and creating a tighter appearance. My go-to self-tanner that I can’t live without is St. Tropez Self Tan Classic Bronzing Mousse. The formula is easy to apply and dries quickly. To prevent stained hands St. Tropez also has a Tan Applicator Mitt that makes even color distribution super simple. For the finishing touch on exfoliated, moisturized, bronzed to perfection skin, I layer a subtle bronze sheen all over. My favorite product to use is Gleam by makeup artist Melanie Mills, who invented the product while serving as head makeup artist on ABC’s Dancing With The Stars. Simply add a few drops of Gleam to your foundation and body moisturizer, then use your hands to blend and bronze to perfection.

*PRO-TIP: For smoother looking legs use a Fascia Blaster before applying Murad Body Cream.

Look and Feel Your Best This Summer TRY THESE HOT TIPS

BY LIFE ST YLE CONSULTANT ANAT FRIT Z

B

egin your day with your very own morning ritual. Don’t just jump out of bed and rush to the coffee machine— even if that requires you to set the alarm a bit earlier. Recently, I have found great pleasure in just “hanging out” in bed, listening to my breath, looking out the window and not at my phone. Listening to my thoughts and making a conscious effort to change them into positive if I detect negativity. That REALLY sets a different tone for the rest of the day. I subscribe to the Japanese theory of drinking cold water in the morning to kick-start the metabolism. As recommended, I drink four glasses of water immediately after waking up on an empty stomach, before anything else. Then I wait for about half an hour before I drink an extra glass of water with Apple

86 | MetMagNY.com | 25AMagazine.com

Cider Vinegar and colloidal Silica that my healer friend from Germany recommended for healthy bones, good skin and body elasticity. I wash my Fish oil, Biotin and milk thistle supplements down with it. Finally, I drink a 16-ounce Green Juice that I have prepared the night before with Cayenne Pepper and a pinch of Cinnamon. If I have a little extra time, I will drink a cup of homemade bone broth, that I have frozen in portions and heated up, as is, on the stove. That is where I get my daily dose of collagen and minerals. I know it is a lot of liquid in the morning, but your cells will thank you —hydration is key!

De-stress Daily Stop to take a few conscious deep breaths throughout your day. First thing that gets messed when you are stressed is your breath. Check your posture too. We tend to hold a lot of tension in the

shoulders! Conscious effort helps eventually create a new habit. Raw Food Tips One of my favorite ways to elicit expressions of appreciation when friends visit is to offer them my homemade Matcha Latte with Almond Milk. It is so simple to make.

Sugar Alternatives The typical natural alternative, Stevia, has a very distinct taste and rarely blends into the rest of a dish or drink. It always leaves a slight trace. I prefer Monk fruit; it has a neutral, solid sugar taste. Or Lucuma, which is also great tasting as well —it is good in caramel-type dessert dishes.

Stop to take a few conscious deep breaths throughout your day. First thing that gets messed when you are stressed is your breath.

Getting Rid of Unwanted “Baggage” I always leave the house early and return late. I’m seeing clients, running errands, jumping from A to B to Z. Schlepping around heavy bags is one way to feel drained and overwhelmed. Always plan your day thoroughly and adapt your accessories, wardrobe and skincare that you carry along.

accentuate my waist with high-waisted pants or skirts, and that works. Always look at the proportions of your body and work with that instead of trying to make it fit. Color-wise I know that navy works best with my skin tone, black appears a bit too harsh. Hold the colors next to your skin and see for yourself what is the most complimentary.

Style Tips

Anti-Aging Tips

No. 1 rule: Do not wear anything that will make you feel uncomfortable. Do NOT squeeze yourself into a one-size-too-small pair of jeans or skirt. It will make you feel miserable and restrain free movement, which will leave you frustrated. Find the body part that you like the most and emphasize it with your clothing. For me, it is my small waist. Everything else I often consider “too big” from my breasts to my hips and thighs, but I

In addition to your morning and night skincarerituals, moisturize and hydrate your face a few times throughout the day as well. I spray antioxidant toner or rose water first, and then I apply cream or oil and pat it into the skin for better absorption. Eat skinnourishing foods containing healthy fats, like Avocado, good Olive Oil or Berries for their antioxidant content which boosts your skin’s beauty.

Bloat Busters BUST BLOAT NATURALLY

I

t’s officially summertime. That means more time spent outside in the sun with family and friends. That also means less clothing. Whether you are in the best shape of your life, or looking to drop a few pounds, there is nothing more uncomfortable or frustrating than being bloated. Even those who work out regularly and eat a well-balanced diet may struggle from bloating. However, by ingesting the right foods and avoiding those that induce bloat, you will be feeling better and appearing lighter in no time!

My top 4 tips for avoiding bloat: Don’t eat too quickly. Eating too quickly and not thoroughly chewing your food can cause you to swallow air, which leads to bloating. Your meals should last at least 20 minutes. Because digestion begins in the mouth, you can decrease bloating just by simply chewing your food more.

BY L I NDSAY B R UST E IN ROSE N, MS, R D, CDN may be individualized as well. Recording your daily intake and noting how bloated you feel is a great way to pinpoint whether certain foods or beverages are triggers for you individually. It is always best to consult with a physician or registered dietitian for more guidance as well.

6 foods to introduce into your diet: Kefir

This food is rich in potassium, a mineral that plays a role in regulating fluid balance. Potassium-rich foods help counteract the effects of sodium, therefore reducing bloat.

Asparagus Asparagus is often referred to as the “anti-bloating superfood.” Ultimately, it helps you urinate, flushing out excess water and in turn relieving any discomfort and bloat. It also contains prebiotics, which help support the growth of “good” bacteria in the gut. This helps to maintain a healthy balance in your digestive system to prevent and/or reduce flatulence.

Keep a food journal. Although there are some common culprits, bloating

Papain, the enzyme contained in papaya, helps break down proteins in your gastrointestinal system, easing up the digestive process. Also, this tropical fruit has anti-inflammatory properties along with a high fiber content that support a strong digestive tract.

Avocados

The fizz in carbonated drinks can cause gas to get trapped in your belly. Opt for water with lemon, lime, mint, or cucumber to amp up the flavor without added calories or sugar. Eating high-sodium foods can trigger water retention, which can make you appear more “puffy.” Avoiding sodium isn’t as easy as steering clear of the saltshaker, however. Sodium sneaks its way into most processed and packaged foods (think soups, breads, crackers, and the like), making it very difficult to avoid. When and if you do succumb to salt, increase your water intake to help flush it out.

Papaya

Probiotic bacteria found in kefir or yogurt help with the digestive process and fight off inflammation. Kefir is easy to tolerate by those sensitive to dairy. Opt for plain or unsweetened versions and sweeten it naturally with fruit.

Limit carbonated beverages.

Avoid salty foods.

gastrointestinal muscles, therefore dissipating the gas that causes your stomach to bloat. Chamomile has also been said to soothe and relax, which can help ease any sort of stomach discomfort.

Fennel Fennel is rich in potassium, helping to reduce post-meal digestive spasms. The seeds found in this plant contain compounds (anethole, fenchone and estragole) that relax the GI tract, allowing gas to pass and ultimately relieving bloating.

Peppermint or chamomile tea Both of these teas have been found to relax

Another is looking at the character himself; it relates to psychoanalysis, like Jacques Lacan's idea of the divided self. Combining those ideas with cinematic production and experience gave birth to the work.

What are you working on now? Tell us about you. Why did you get into art? Since I was a child, I have found I have a passionate interest in images, such as those on embroidery, china and other objects used in daily life. Images are powerful, not only visually but also because of the beliefs, traditions and ideologies that inspired their creation. I studied residential design at China Central Academy of Fine Arts; I am intrigued by the delicacy and intricacy of human inhabitation and inspired to probe into the living circumstances of the Chinese rural and urban areas that have witnessed much growth. Studying at Yale, expanded the body of my work and offered me a platform to develop my research interests. It encouraged me to explore areas I have never stepped in and practice in diverse and interdisciplinary projects.

What have been the last few works you've done? The latest piece (flat, flat, flat) was inspired by the idea of scope regime and a Chinese idiom. The idiom means to draw a circle on the ground like a house of detention, and now it also refers to restricting someone or something to a designated sphere. The work uses this idiom as a metaphor to look at how individualism, cybernetics, neoliberalism and techno-utopianism draw the circle to flatten contemporary society. I'm the Mirror also draws inspiration from a Chinese text called "Zhuang Zhou Dreams a Butterfly," which tells the story of the ancient philosopher Zhuang Zhou who once dreamt of himself turning into a butterfly. In his dream, he was amused and exhilarated, without noticing that this butterfly was only in his dream. When he woke up and found that he was still himself, not a butterfly, he was surprised 90 | MetMagNY.com | 25AMagazine.com

I'm working on multiple projects now, and trying to develop a body of work that focuses on ideas about images, screen space, ocular centrism and scopic regime. At the same time, I will pick up the works I have done to develop them into this larger topic. So it will not only be videos, I still like to make installations, sculptures and other tangible objects. Currently I'm making a new series of drawings and paintings on mirror film, a 4K film about the information eyes can consume, a 4K video discovering the relations of body and screen space, a 3-channel video made by found footage and transforming them into a flashing emoji form, and a performance with interaction of cameras, screens and projectors.

Where do you see your working evolving in the next few years? My work attempts to navigate and model the use of endlessly proliferative information and images in contemporary life. And investigate hybrid and shifting uses of images as they relate to complex relationships between observation and exploitation, seduction and repulsion. Moving beyond the limits of images and starting to investigate the architecture and ideology of information interfaces.

What exhibitions have you been involved with? The piece (flat, flat, flat) was included in the exhibition “Americans 2017” at the LUMA Westbau exhibition space within Löwenbräukunst in Zurich, Switzerland. The exhibition is co-curated by Simon Castets and Hans Ulrich Obrist for 89plus.

“No One Will Rip-off the Taxpayers On My Watch”

Steve Labriola

NASSAU’S NEXT COMPTROLLER BY WILLIAM NICHT E R

T

axes are one of the biggest concerns for the average American citizen. They worry about overpaying, about what their money is being used for, and whether or not the people handling this money are trustworthy. It is these worries that make a good comptroller such an important asset of the local government. And Steve Labriola is prepared to show just how effective a comptroller can be. Labriola, 54, was born in Massapequa Park, NY, the son of an army paratrooper in World War II. He credits his father with instilling him with not only a set of values, including love of family and of country, but also with inspiring him to seek public office.

94 | MetMagNY.com | 25AMagazine.com

“My father was a big reader,” said Labriola. “He would give me books on great leaders in our country and in Western civilization. I’d come home from school and I’d find another book and then another book, and that really got my interest in public service.” Labriola’s career as a public servant began when he was 32 years old and received a nomination for the New York State Assembly, serving for four terms. He then sought and achieved a local position as the town clerk in Oyster Bay, NY, an office he held for nine years. Throughout his tenure as Town Clerk, Labriola worked to help protect the taxpayers, instituting effective financial controls and modernizing transactions through technology, modern municipal clerk software and computers, and over-the-counter

credit card transactions to reduce cash transactions. “After accomplishing a lot of the goals I set out to reform and improve that office, I basically term-limited myself, took myself out of office,” he said. “I accepted an appointment with County Comptroller George Maragos, Chief Deputy Comptroller for Nassau County.” He stayed with that job for four years, and grew to appreciate its effectiveness and the opportunities it offered. “The comptroller is the fiscal watchdog of Nassau County,” he said. “It’s the first check and balance against waste, fraud and corruption.” Now, with Maragos vacating the position in order to run for County Executive, switching parties in the process, Labriola sees an opportunity to take the office and use the power it provides and his experience as

Pictured from left to right: Gina Labriola, daughter; Cindy Labriola, wife; Steve Labriola; Lisa Labriola, daughter and Bocce, family dog.

Chief Deputy Comptroller to accomplish major reforms. Labriola’s plan is simple and involves three main points, which are clearly laid out on his website. First, he wants to create a “Whistle-Blower Hotline,” allowing employees and citizens to anonymously report instances of potential fraud that they notice. Second, he wants to form a skilled Anti-Fraud Unit in order to prevent “shady companies” from taking up residency in the county. And third, he wants to double the number of annual audits to ensure accountability on the part of tax-funded organizations. Additionally, he wants to use social media and the County’s website to show where and how the taxpayers’ money is being spent, in order to restore faith in the local government. As he says on his website, “No one will rip

off the taxpayers on my watch.” Furthermore, Labriola plans to eliminate NIFA, Nassau County’s fiscal monitor, as he no longer sees the need for its oversight. While initially he was part of the group that approved of NIFA, he had not anticipated that it would still be in existence years after its implementation. “One of our goals is to release Nassau County from NIFA,” he said. “It would be a wonderful accomplishment to have NIFA no longer necessary, and the way to do that is to permanently remove the deficit condition which triggers the control period.” He also plans to revise the “County Guarantee,” which provides that should an individual challenge their taxes and win, then the county will return the

money at their own expense, while the municipality that initially received the funds keep them. “That’s a basic unfairness,” he said. Overall, Labriola has big plans, and wants to work alongside the state government in Albany and Nassau County itself in order to complete them. “I want this role in particular because I believe, in this role, I could restore the public’s trust,” he said. “My job will be to create accountability, strengthen transparency, and root out corruption wherever it may exist.” The General Election will be November 7, 2017.

Westminster Nursery & Garden Center BRINGS BEAUTY TO LONG ISLAND BY MEGAN MANDRACHIO

F

rom simple seasonal Christmas tree sales to one of the most respected full-service nurseries on Long Island, Westminster Nursery & Garden Center began more than a quarter of a century ago providing annuals, perennials, trees, shrubs, ornamentation and garden supplies. Richard Hanna, the sole proprietor of the nursery, developed what is now known today as a premier nursery & garden center. Richard started this journey almost accidentally. He was a music major when his father bought a piece of property. Someone suggested selling Christmas trees on it, since there was a significant demand for them. Once he was out of college, Richard decided to take advantage of this opportunity and give it a try and began selling Christmas trees to passersby. He achieved much success in just his first few years, and decided to make a go of it. From then on the nursery flourished, growing into the garden center it is today—offering everything from trees to fresh-cut flowers. The nursery has since added a full-service landscape design, building and maintenance division. The staff is well-trained and knowledgeable, and they can answer

96 | MetMagNY.com | 25AMagazine.com

any questions you may have about gardening or landscaping. They can also help you solve any issues regarding things such as annual planting, how to construct a pool, a patio, walk, deck or even a driveway. Though the nursery has grown and the business has expanded, the store has still remained familyrun to keep consistency. Landscaping trends seem to lean toward more elegant, clean-cut sophisticated projects, with a focus on outdoor spaces. The lead landscape designer involved, Patrick Duffe, spoke of the decisions one must make in creating ideal outdoor spaces. With gardens from simple to ornate, there must always be the question of maintaining it. Patrick insisted that if you don’t have access to landscape experts like him or his team coming to check up on your beautiful gardens fairly regularly, they may be harder to manage, and may not keep their beauty intact; especially with perennial gardens. Mr. Duffe makes it a point to say that he personally prefers keeping it relatively simple, regardless if others would rather have more-complicated designs. He feels that simplicity offers an easier, as well as more manageable result that will last; keeping his customers happy without too much hassle or stress.

As with any business, there often comes competition, but Richard seems serenely confident. The Westminster Nursery & Garden Center never seems to run out of stock (because it is well maintained under Richard's guiding eye), and the quality is unparalleled. Mr. Hanna prides himself on bringing in stock that is top notch and that will provide customers with a one-stop shopping experience. The nursery is much bigger today than it had been at the beginning, but that doesn’t make Richard forget where he came from. Whenever the holidays come around, the Christmas trees are stocked and ready to go, just as it was when that original piece of property was purchased. The Westminster Nursery & Garden Center is open seven days a week, making it easier than ever to to gather whatever help or supplies you need for your project or your garden. Whether you stop by to grab some gardening tools, or are ready to tackle a new deck for your home, The Westminster Nursery & Garden Center will make sure you get what you need to complete your next project! westminsternursery.com

Dr. Victoria Veytsman COSMETIC DENTISTRY EXPLAINED BY WILLIAM NICHT E R

C

osmetic dentistry, is a union of science, aesthetics and artistry, involving minimal pain, and is practiced by cosmetic dentist Dr. Victoria Veytsman. “A cosmetic dentist is someone that approaches every case with an aesthetic eye and an eye for detail,” said Dr. Veytsman, a New York native. She is the youngest person ever to graduate from the New York University College of Dentistry, doing so at the age of 22. From there, she went on complete her residency at a Colombia College Hospital, and spent years practicing and acquiring the necessary knowledge to become a cosmetic dentist. “The way I chose cosmetic dentistry,” she said, “was because I always wanted to be a doctor my entire life, but I always had this creative part of me, and it just seemed like the perfect combination of both. Now I get to practice both the science part and the art part.” Dr. Veytsman practices both cosmetic and general dentistry, and also applies her cosmetic techniques to her general practice. “General dentistry can be cosmetic as well,” she said. Her patients consist of “image-conscious” men and women, along with some celebrity clientele. Her patients come for a variety of services, and one of the most popular is Invisalign. “Invisalign is a way to move teeth using clear

100 | MetMagNY.com | 25AMagazine.com

aligners without using brackets and wires,” she said. Referring to previous methods of teeth alignment as “uncomfortable” and “unsightly,” she feels that Invisalign is a more comfortable and better solution for the appearance-conscious individual. Dr. Veytsman is incredibly knowledgeable about the process behind Invisalign, which involves taking impressions of the teeth and then using them to determine the necessary structures needed to optimize the process. “I would say it’s in our top three procedures,” she said. Another popular procedure she offers is her smile makeover, a process by which she transforms and improves a person’s smile. She has many different methods of doing so, including porcelain veneers. “Porcelain veneers are thin shells of porcelain that are bonded to the surface of teeth,” she said. This procedure also involves impressions, which are used to create a “wax-up” or “mockup” of what the person’s smile will look like once the veneers are added. They can even create a digital mockup, allowing the person to view and approve the changes, and to make adjustments easily. Dr. Veytsman sees this mockup as one of the most important elements of the process, as it allows for what she calls a “trial smile.” This allows the patient to see a version of the end result, utilizing temporary veneers,

which allows the patient to clearly see how their teeth and smile will look in their mouth. “This is a big change. It’s obviously something that the world sees right away, so we never want to start a case without the patient getting to ‘test-drive’ the smile first,” she said. The changes that can be made with veneers include widening or broadening the smile, changing the length of the teeth, or changing the shape of the smile altogether. “There’s so many things we can do with veneers,” she said. “Invisalign just moves teeth, but veneers actually change the color, the size, the shape….You can really do a lot.” Dr. Veytsman is also well aware of the potential fears surrounding dentistry and its associated practices. “When patients come in, there’s always a fear of pain, fear of the unknown,” she said. “It’s really just a matter of getting comfortable.” In regards to what makes her different, she prides herself on her close relationship with her patients and her in-depth knowledge of cosmetic dentistry. “The most humbling part and the biggest privilege of all of this,” she said, “are really the patients that come through the door and the relationships we’re able to establish.”

ANTIQUE AMERICAN FLAGS BY B E NNE T T MARCUS

J

eff Bridgman, the country’s foremost seller of antique American flags, political textiles, folk-art and memorabilia, is out to preserve history and draw attention to the beauty and importance of Old Glory. He has been a passionate collector since his early childhood, when he became enamored with American history. As a youngster, Bridgman went on countless trips to national landmarks and battlefields and was always on the lookout for hidden treasures. He hunted and hoarded bottle caps and beer cans, always keeping a watchful eye out for the “good ones.” It was only natural that Bridgman would combine his passion for accumulating collectibles and his encyclopedic knowledge of our nation’s history and make it his life-long career! Now 49-years-old and headquartered in historic York County, Pennsylvania, Bridgman is the largest collector and dealer of antique American flags and textiles in the nation, most dating back to the 19th century. Always on the lookout for rare, unique and one-of-a-kind items, Bridgman recently paid a record-breaking $275,000 for an 1856 James Buchanan portrait campaign flag.

102 | MetMagNY.com | 25AMagazine.com

President Bill Clinton & Ralf Lauren The popularity of the Stars & Stripes continues to grow, and in addition to flying on the flagpole, it is often the centerpiece of salons and drawing rooms. Bridgman’s clients include many bold-faced names, including Michael Bloomberg and Jon Bon Jovi, as well as Barbra Streisand, who purchased two flags as gifts for her friends’ Bill Clinton and Bill Gates. Ralph Lauren has been a client for more than twenty years and has purchased items for his Colorado ranch, as well as for his stores and corporate offices. Some of the Ralph Lauren’s boutiques even carry and sell Bridgman’s rare collectibles. Historical Flags “I consider myself to be an American folk-art dealer, and flags are included in that,” Bridgman explained. “During the 19th century, there were no official proportions for the flag, or official shades of red and blue. There was no official number of points that the stars had to have.” It was even possible to advertise directly on the flag, as exampled by a LincolnJohnson campaign flag Bridgman recently sold. “In those days, people did all kinds of interesting things

with the flag design. People would add eagles, reverse colors, and even drop the number of stars like when the South seceded. There were all sorts of whimsical and interesting things that people did that make 19th century examples some of the best American folk art there is.” He added, “Only time will tell how valuable the campaign buttons and banners of President Trump may one day become! However, in the meantime, there are many esteemed politicians whose memorabilia is highly collectible, such as Abraham Lincoln.” Bridgman sold the most well-known parade flags from the LincolnJohnson’s 1864 campaign for six figures. How to Collect Flags Bridgman was always encouraged by his mother, an avid collector, to become an antiques dealer. Starting with $1,000 borrowed from his parents, Jeff hunted yard sales, buying items and refinishing them to sell. Twentyfive years later, Bridgman has exhibited at almost 1,000 antique shows with a stock of more than 2,000 flags. You can find Bridgman’s merchandise on his website: jeffbridgman.com, at antiquescouncil.com and on 1stDibs.com.

MOTHERHOOD IS A B#TCH BY B E NNE T T MARCUS

Odd Mom Out Jill Kargman, who writes and stars in the hit TV show Odd Mom Out, was delighted to write the forward for her friend Lyss Stern’s new book, “Motherhood Is A B#TCH: 10 Steps to Regaining Your Sanity, Sexiness, and Inner Diva,” which just hit bookstores in the Hamptons and is also available on Amazon. “It was so heartfelt and real about how she felt as a mom, as a first time mom and how she reclaimed herself back,” Stern says, clearly touched.

Reclaiming Your Life. The message behind the book, says Stern, is that once you become a mom, you don’t have to lose sight of who you are. “For me and for so many other moms out there, between working and taking care of the kids, and whether or not you’re a stay at home mom, so much of it becomes about the kids. And you forget about you as the woman and you forget about you

104 | MetMagNY.com | 25AMagazine.com

as the wife.” It’s about reclaiming your life. It offers tips about nutrition, date nights, shopping for lingerie, and letting yourself breathe. It’s also, Stern says, hilarious, with chapters like “Get Your Sh-t Together” and “You’ve Got a Mouth, Use It.” She emphasizes that most of the tips are things you can do on your own that don’t cost any money. “That’s the whole beauty of the book. We’re not telling you to go to Chanel and drop X amount, we’re really giving you tidbits that you could put into your real life each and every day, for moms everywhere.”

Divalysscious Moms Thirteen years ago Stern founded Divalysscious Moms, a networking company specifically for moms, with cool, chic, kid-friendly activities like a grand opening of the Fendi Kids boutique on Fifth Avenue. There is usually swag in the form of gift bags, but most importantly, you get to have fun, and to meet

other moms. At that time, there were only a handful of Mommy blogs, so she was something of a pioneer. Divalysscious Moms has launched everything from UPPAbaby Strollers to Stokke Strollers, which is part of an “influencer program.”

Super Saturday Her entrepreneurial endeavors include giving back; for ten years, she has run the children’s area at Super Saturday, the annual Hamptons ovarian cancer research fundraiser. It’s called Camp Divalysscious and features face painting, magic shows and more, plus activities for parents as well. Stern is also working with her husband to create a comedy television show called #NanaDoll about her widowed mother, who she says is a real character.

They're in favor of it, fourteen to three." • An old couple's sitting on the porch when all of a sudden Grandma gets up and smacks! Grandpa. He says, "What was that for?" She says, "That's for fifty years of terrible sex." Ten minutes later, Grandpa gets up and smacks! Grandma. She says, "What was that for?" He says, "That's for knowing the difference." • A blind guy's walking his dog when they stop at a light. The dog lifts his leg and pees on the blind guy's leg. The blind guy reaches down and pats the dog on the head. • A guy standing next to him says, "Hey, that dog just peed on you. Why would you pat him on the head?" The blind guy says, "First I have to find his head, then I can kick him in his ass." • Three Baby Boomers are bragging about their memories. The first one says "I can remember breastfeeding." The second one says, "Yeah? Well, I can remember being in my mother's womb." The third one says "That's nothing. I can remember going to a party with my father and coming home with my mother." • There's an accident at the lumber camp and Stukowski's ear gets cut off. Everybody's looking through the sawdust when one of the guys picks up an ear and says, "Stukowski, is this it?" Stukowski says, "It can't be. Mine had a pencil behind it." • "Last year for our anniversary I took my wife to Alaska." "What're you going to do this year?" "I'm thinking I might go back and get her."
