Canis lupus familiaris All domestic dogs are descended from wolves, specifically the gray wolf (Canis lupus). This connection was established through genetic studies, which show that modern domestic dogs share a common ancestor with gray wolves from around 20,000 to 40,000 years ago.

Daniel Glanz brings a depth of experience and a global perspective to his bronze sculptures. With a background in illustration and fine art photography for the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute, his career has been shaped by a commitment to observing and understanding the natural world. Though his work spans a wide range of species, this collection focuses on his celebrated canine sculptures, which capture the profound connection between humans and their canine companions.

Working from his studio in Loveland, Colorado, Glanz applies a classical approach to sculpture that emphasizes movement, energy, and fine detail. His ability to render the physicality and character of each dog reflects years of study and observation. These limitededition bronzes are charged with a sense of vitality, offering timeless tributes to the spirit of man’s best friend.

Glanz’s work is informed by extensive travel to places such as Africa, Central and South America, the Galapagos Islands, and Antarctica. These experiences, combined with his artistic rigor, allow him to create sculptures that resonate with authenticity and grace. His pieces range from table-top to monumental scale, and they are featured in private collections and public art programs across the globe.

An Elected Member of the National Sculpture Society and a Signature Member of the Society of Animal Artists, Glanz is widely recognized for his contributions to the field. This collection of canine sculptures showcases his ability to transform bronze into a celebration of the loyalty, beauty, and spirit of animals.

The Company of Canines

“I try to bring out a certain unique aspect of the animal. Even with dogs, some are high energy, some are big and lumbering and the sweetest things in the world.” French Bulldog was commissioned by a doctor whose canine companion accompanies him everywhere. Whenever the doctor is in conversation, the dog is by his side looking up with an inquisitive expression as if he understands every word. “I realize I might be anthropomorphizing to a certain extent,” the sculptor acknowledges, “but I think that even wild animals have more personality traits than people give them credit for.”
