Meyer Gallery is pleased to announce the upcoming solo exhibition of renowned artist Robert LaDuke, titled News of the Day, showcasing an exquisite collection of all new acrylic paintings. The exhibition will run from September 22nd to October 5th, 2023, at Meyer Gallery on Canyon Rd.

News of the Day presents an engaging blend of memories, dreams, and everyday life, beautifully translated onto canvas through LaDuke’s unique artistic vision. At the heart of his narrative paintings lies a fascination with the transportation of the 1930s and 1940s, a time when steel toys and classic automobiles roamed the American landscapes. Inspired by his childhood memories and dreams, LaDuke weaves together his recollections of cross-country journeys with family, vintage steel toys inherited from his grandfather, and a passion for the aesthetics of the era.

LaDuke’s art radiates with the nostalgic charm of a bygone era. His paintings come alive with images of trains, ships, cars, trailers, and even rockets, all set against idyllic American backdrops that evoke a sense of both wonder and whimsy. His works invite viewers to embark on a journey through time, where vivid colors and playful imagery fuse with open-ended narratives, allowing each viewer to become part of the story.

LaDuke’s paintings compel us to ponder the untold tales and adventures captured within each frame.

Drawing inspiration from the 1940s aesthetics, Robert LaDuke employs a vibrant color palette reminiscent of the candy-like hues that once adorned classic cars and advertisements. This choice not only reflects his love for the “happy” colors of that era but also lends a sense of humor to his artwork, sometimes taking a darkly comic twist. LaDuke’s artistic influences are varied, with a nod to Norman Rockwell’s depiction of American life, although LaDuke’s exploration delves into the depths of human experience. His creations go beyond surface imagery, inviting viewers to find their own meaning within his compositions.

An accomplished artist with a BFA from the Art Institute of Chicago, Robert LaDuke resides in Huntington Beach, CA, where he continues to captivate audiences with his thought-provoking and visually stunning artwork. His distinctive sense of humor, combined with his skillful storytelling and masterful use of color, have earned him a prominent place in the art world.
