industry professionals came to Dhaka from across the world, and exhibitors were thrilled with the quality of visitors and the show’s fine organisation. The Expo attracted trade visitors from 38 countries, their ranks swelled by major retail groups and brands. The specialist event targeted the entire denim value chain and gave buyers the option to order fabrics, finishes, washes and accessories. By allowing only professional guests into the show, the organizers created an environment exclusively for denim specialists.

Mapping denim: all the pieces come together

The Bangladesh Denim Expo is a non-profit enterprise and operates from a platform of responsibility. The show’s aim is not only to grow the denim trade in Bangladesh, but also to encourage better business practise: to raise the living standards of the people in this country. Any surplus funds from the show will be donated to a seed fund for a Denim University in Bangladesh. Already the organisers are building links with educators and experts around the world to make these seeds bear fruit. Ultimately this benefits everyone who trades in this country. We hope you will support this endeavour and spread the word.

Opening Ceremony An important focal point of the first day, the inauguration ceremony featured speeches from gathered dignitaries who extolled the virtues of the Bangladesh garment business. Later, Mr. Tofail Ahmed, MP, Honourable Commerce Minister of the Peoples Republic of Bangladesh, toured the showground accompanied by Mr. Mostafiz Uddin, Managing Director of Denim Expert Ltd & founder of the Bangladesh Denim Expo. Business Matching Service Premium buyers with specific needs were introduced to exhibitors who could fulfil their requirements. The result was realtime business opportunities, orchestrated by the show organizers.

Internationalal buyers: researching new denim at the Expo

Trend Zone This special area of the Expo was continuously busy and presented a showcase for upcoming trends in denim. The space was dressed with curiosities including two historic motorcycles. Exhibitors supplied their outstanding garments, which were grouped into categories such as special finishes and original vintage. Seminar Visitors and exhibitors flocked to a variety of Seminars, presented by expert industry speakers from the UK, USA, Germany, Italy, Spain, Turkey and Hong Kong. The seminars began with a fascinating discussion on Bangladesh’s opportunities in the global textile arena. Other topics introduced new production techniques that offered sustainable solutions in washing and other treatments. The seminars concluded with a presentation on upcoming denim trends by the global forecaster WGSN.

Bangladesh Denim Expo is more than a gathering of professional people. The event attracted an impressive audience of buyers, key personnel and decision-makers as well as important media, trendmakers and international fashion researchers. In total some 2601 visitors from 37 countries came to the show, among them 359 foreign delegates and 2242 local guests – all accredited members of the apparel industry. The top five overseas visitor countries were: UK, Turkey, Italy, Germany and Hong Kong.

The result was an inspiring and diverse array of products that represented the entire denim sector.

On the booths: happy buyers means good business

Response from exhibitors was extremely positive. Many companies commented on the supreme professionalism, the strong marketing effort and the high grade of visitors during the event. Exhibitors also appreciated the sustainable materials used for the uniform booths, the exciting Trend Zone and the Expo’s efforts to position Bangladesh denim as a strong player on the international stage.

Bangladesh Denim Expo will become a regular event in the denim calendar! The show will be held twice every year.
