BANGLADESH DENIM EXPO • THE INTERNATIONAL DENIM EXHIBITION

BANGLADESH HAS ACHIEVED NOTABLE PROGRESS IN ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT ••• The micro-economics figures of Bangladesh are very impressive. The readymade garment (RMG) industry contributes significantly to trade, employment and economic growth of Bangladesh currently employing 4.4 million people, making up 81% of total exports and contributing to around 16% of the country’s GDP. Bangladesh is one of the few countries that was able to met almost all of its UN’s Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). The total export of the country stands US$ 31.21 billion in 2015. In 2015, GDP of the country grew to $205.3 billion taking Bangladesh to the 44th position in the world economy. The per capita income of Bangladeshi people becomes US$ 1314 in 2015 marking the escalation of the country from a status of low income to a lower-middle income country. BANGLADESH’S DENIM INDUSTRY New Opportunities ! The unfractured demand of denim by fashion connoisseurs globally has created new opportunities for Bangladesh. The industry

in Bangladesh presently boasts 26 denim Fabric producing factories with a total investment of over USD 834 million. The monthly production of denim stands at 30 million yards per month while the actual demand nearly reaches 60 million yards. To cover this gap, the country imports 30 to 35 million yards per month from countries like China, India and Pakistan averaging a value of USD 75 million. According to BTMA data, the total investment in the denim sub-sector stands at USD 900 million. Bangladesh holds 22.88% market share in EU and 11.35% in USA denim market especially in jeans in 2015. Currently, about 1.8 billion pairs of denim trousers, amounting to US$ 51 billion, are annually sold worldwide. Bangladesh has obtained the third position in the US denim market for the last couple of years and exported denim products worth US$ 418.42 million in 2014.

BANGLADESH DENIM EXPO • THE INTERNATIONAL DENIM EXHIBITION

••• The country as the second largest contributor to the EU denim market shipped denim products, especially jeans, to the region worth euro 932.86 million in 2014 marking a growth of 15.53 percent. The global market for denim is forecasted to reach USD 64.1 billion by 2020. In 2013-2014, the export of denim products to the USA and EU markets rose by roughly 25 percent and presently increases every day. The total denim production of the whole world adds up to approximately 7 billion meters of which 70% is being produced in Asia. Thus, the future of Bangladesh's denim industry is bright. To meet the growing international demand of denim fabric, local mills are investing in imported state-of-the-art machinery especially when it comes to weave and process. Large plants are being setup throughout the country.

ECOLOGICAL BOOTH DESIGN

Ecological & biodegradable Made by Jute Sustainability is important to us; therefore, the Bangladesh Denim Expo is proud to present for their next issue a completely new, ecological booth design. The new concept is based on the use of jute, the second most important vegetable fiber after cotton. It is 100 percent biodegradable and recyclable and thus environment friendly. In addition, the versatile fiber plays an important role in Bangladesh, and is called the "Golden fiber of Bangladesh" because of its golden, silky gloss. But above all, the warm, natural look fits very well with denim!
