SARATHI - SWISSCONTACT Sarathi is funded by MetLife Foundation and Swisscontact. Sarathi - Progress through Financial Inclusion aims to build an ecosystem where wage digitization promotes financial inclusion of Ready-Made Garments (RMG) workers, while also benefitting RMG factories and building a commercially-viable business model for the commercial banks that participate in the process. The project has a target to open bank accounts of 60,000 RMG workers through 3 commercial banks and reach 200,000 people through financial literacy training and awareness programs by 2020. Sarathi facilitates its partner commercial banks in developing ADCs (agent outlets, ATM booths, biometric devices, RMG Digital Banking Booth, etc.) in strategic locations in and around RMG factories to ensure sustainable access to financial services for RMG workers.

Truck Lagbe is the largest online truck booking platform in Bangladesh to hire pickup, Truck, Covered Van or Lorry for business or personal use through app. Truck Lagbe started with only 25 vehicles back in July 2017, with a vision to create an open and transparent platform for shippers and owners/operators where they can find each other without the interference of anyone else. Considering his professionalism, efficiency, integrity and wisdom achieved at service, the Government appointed him as the Senior Secretary on 30 July 2018. Mr. Haque served in Bangladesh Missions at London, Bangkok and Geneva as well as in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh in various capacities. He represented Bangladesh in numerous international forums and platforms. He also served at the International Organization for Migration (IOM) from 2001 to 2012 in several senior positions. Mr. Haque was the Chair of the 9th Global Forum on Migration and Development (GFMD). He has been serving as an Independent Expert to the UN Committee on the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of their Families (CMW) since 2014. Mr. Shahidul Haque obtained his MA in International Relations from Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy (USA). He completed his BSS Honours and MSS in Social Welfare from University of Dhaka. He was awarded ‘The Honourable Mention for Robert B. Stewart Prize’ of Fletcher School and Chancellor’s Award, the Grants Commission Award and the Chancellor’s Gold Medal of Dhaka University for his outstanding academic accomplishments. R E N SJ E T E E R INK Ambassador & The Head of Delegation Delegation of European Union to Bangladesh Rensje Teerink, of Dutch nationality, was born in Luxembourg and studied Cultural Anthropology/Non-Western Sociology at the University of Amsterdam. Specialising in Asian studies she conducted extensive field research in western India (Gujarat and Maharashtra). In 1985, she joined the Centre for Asian Studies Amsterdam (CASA) as a researcher and, among other consultancy posts, contributed to a project funded by IDPAD (the Indo-Dutch Project for Alternatives in Development) on gender and labour migration in rural India. She joined the European Commission in 1995 as administrator for South Asia. In 2006 she was appointed Deputy Head of Unit for India, Nepal, Bhutan and SAARC. In 2011 she joined the newly created European External Action Service as Deputy Head of Division for the same countries. She was nominated by EU HR/ VP Catherine Ashton as EU Ambassador/Head of Delegation to Nepal and EU Representative to SAARC in April 2013. In May 2017 EU HR/VP Federica Mogherini nominated her Ambassador Designate/Head of Delegation to Bangladesh. Ms Teerink is married with two children and, apart from her Dutch mother tongue, is fluent in English, French, German and Italian and has a working knowledge of Spanish, Hindi and Nepali.

HARRY VERWEIJ Ambassador The Kingdom of the Netherlands Embassy, Bangladesh Harry Verweij joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1984 as a legal officer in the General Affairs Department. In the following years he worked in multiple positions within the Ministry. One of his key roles has been as legal counsel to the Permanent Representation of the Netherlands at the United Nations in New York. He was charged with legal matters relating to human rights, treaties relating to international organizations and international humanitarian law. MR. JONATHAN ZORNOW Inventor SEWBO Jonathan Zornow is the 30-year-old inventor behind Sewbo. He came up with the solution to automating garment manufacturing while reading about temporary support materials for 3D printers, which are water-soluble plastics that could be melted and molded. These materials let 3D printers build things that would otherwise be impossible, and he thought that the same concept could be applied to the garment industry. This would ultimately prove to be a successful approach - but not before many long nights of tinkering, including a crowded stretch where he shared his tiny NYC studio apartment/workshop with a rented industrial robot. The experience, knowledge and network Sofie has, through working with factories, global brands, buying offices and NGOs in Asia, becomes key in assessing the needs of QuizRR’s partners, stakeholders, and the market.

Nazma Akter, President of Sommilito Garments Shamik Federation, Substitute Executive member of IndustriALL Global Union, Cochair of Asia Pacific Women’s Committee of IndustriALL Global Union, board member of Fair Labor association (FLA) and General Secretary and Executive Director of Awaj Foundation has been fighting to improve workers’ rights especially for women workers for the last 34 years. Her main mandate is to increase women participation in decision making position at home, workplace and to promote women empowerment. Also help them improve their negotiation skills and build a better relationship between workers, managers and the garment industry of Bangladesh as a whole. She started her journey in a garments factory when she was 11 years old alongside her mother. Her first work as a helper and then later as an operator. Witnessing continual problems and abuses within her work place she decided to stand up and fight for their rights. Her first work was with numbers of existing trade unions, joining them in a number of worker rallies and protests throughout the 1990s. After that, she established her own trade union, the Sommilito Garments Sramik Federation which now has membership of over 70 thousand women garment workers. Sommilito Garments Sramik Federation has signed 10 CBA with factory management and Under SGSF’s Banner there are 50 affiliated Trade Union. But not only has SGSF got a wide membership, it actively works with its members to ensure their rights in the work place, government and wider society.

His academic background is within Textile Technology. He joined H&M in 2003 in India Production Office. Worked in different roles between 2003 to 2017 driving the CSR agenda in India and Sri Lanka. In March 2017 he moved to Bangladesh Regional Office and now holds the position of Regional Sustainability Manager and drives the Sustainability agenda for H&M group in Bangladesh and Pakistan.

MR. ANIR CHOWDURY Policy Advisor a2i - Access to Information Anir Chowdhury is the Policy Advisor of UNDP and USAID supported Access to Information Program. In this capacity, he leads the formation of an innovation ecosystem in Bangladesh Civil Service through massive capacity development, policy formulation, institutional reform and a Service Innovation Fund. His work on innovation in public service has developed interesting and replicable models of service delivery decentralization, public-private partnerships and transformation of a traditional bureaucracy into a forward-looking, citizen-centric service provider. Anir is a member of the Prime Minister’s National Digital Task Force, Education Minister’s National ICT in Education Task Force, and Planning Minister’s National Information Management Committee. In his twenty-two-year career, he co-founded several software and service companies in the US and Bangladesh focused on enterprise management and IT strategy for Fortune 500 corporations. He also co-founded a number of non-profit organizations focused on ICT4D, e-learning and open source technologies.

Dr. Jürgen Bischoff is currently Senior Advisor to Adelphi in the areas of environment, climate change, energy, technology, finance and innovation management and Team Leader of a project financed by the Deutsche Gesellschaft for Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) in Bangladesh promoting safety-related and environmental adaptation investments in the textile sector. He has been the Director of ASEM, the Indo–German Environment Programme, jointly implemented by the Indian Ministry for Environment and Forests (MoEF) and the Deutsche Gesellschaft for Technische Zusammenarbeit (GTZ) till September 2010. With several bilateral projects under its umbrella, the programme focuses on climate change, sustainable development, resources management and environmental protection in urban and industrial areas, inclusive of capacity building. Prior to this appointment he was until 2002 Director of the United Nations Asian and Pacific Centre for Transfer of Technology which office he assumed in 1994. The Centre was set up in 1977 to assist the Members and Associate Members of the Economic and Social Commission of Asia and the Pacific through strengthening their capabilities to develop, transfer, adapt and apply technology. Dr. Bischoff has also held responsible positions with private sector companies and has served as advisor to several government institutions. He has taught at universities in Europe and South America.
USAID, Bangladesh Derrick S. Brown became U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Mission Director for Bangladesh in July 2018. A Senior Foreign Service Officer, Mr. Brown has more than 28 years of development experience, having been Mission Director in Angola and Deputy and Acting Mission Director in Indonesia. He also served in Botswana, Tanzania, Mozambique, Ghana, the Dominican Republic and Afghanistan. Mr. Brown earned a bachelor of science from Alabama State University and a master of science from the University of Maryland.
