A SUCCESSFUL THIRD EDITION ! For two inspiring days, the latest Bangladesh Denim Expo in Dhaka proved its growing importance as one of the leading denim shows on the global denim agenda.

W

ith the last edition of the Bangladesh Denim Expo, held from November 11 to 12 at the new location of the INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION CITY BASHUNDHARA in Dhaka, Bangladesh, the show impressed with a wide

variety of exhibitors and a multitude of events. 2.280 visitors from 44 countries visited the international sourcing and business platform, which once again was accompanied by an extensive seminar program focusing on sustainability in the denim supply chain. Many officials from politics and textile institutions joined the show and thereby supported its focus on social and ecological issues in denim production. Both, visitors and exhibitors praised the straightforward concept of the show alongside with its new location and design and its unique trade show identity. As a result, the Bangladesh Denim Expo has most certainly become a fixture on the international denim calendar !

More visitors The number of international visitors coming to the Bangladesh Denim Expo has once again increased.

ith its premiere in the light-flooded new

INTERNATIONAL

CONVENTION

CITY

BASHUNDHARA in Dhaka, the trade show

opened the next chapter in its international success story. Being just the third edition, the show attracted 2.280 international visitors from 44 countries and 851 companies. In comparison to the last show in May 2015, the number of visitors grew by 9 %. Most foreign visitors came from France, Spain, Germany and Turkey. With 33 %, the majority of all visitors were buyers, followed by denim garments manufacturers (22 %) and brands and retailers (17 %). They all praised the selection of exhibitors as well as the inspiring working atmosphere.

INTERNATIONAL DENIM EXHIBITORS The variety of exhibitors at the BANGLADESH DENIM EXPO represented the entire denim supply chain.

F

or buyers looking for cutting-edge products, a selection of 39 exhibitors from the whole supply chain of denim production presented their wares - from garment manufacturers to denim mills and laundries over

accessory suppliers to the machinery and fiber industry. Thus new denim trends

were showcased alongside new textile applications and innovative technologies. Many of them originated in Bangladesh, but there were also exhibitors from countries like Pakistan, Turkey, India, Japan, USA and Germany. Furthermore the Japanese premium denim manufacturer Kuroki debuted at the show. All exhibitors signalled a very positive development in terms of visitor profiles.

NEW INTERIOR AND BOOTH DESIGN

W

The new location at the INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION CITY BASHUNDHARA in Dhaka also channeled a completely new show design ith its debut in the new location at the INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION CITY BASHUNDHARA in Dhaka, the BANGLADESH DENIM EXPO took advantage of the light-flooded, spacious atmosphere of the new hall. The new booth

concept with its focus on an open and stimulating design and the clear structure of the hall was praised by exhibitors and visitors alike. Additionally, trend zones offered a comprehensive overview of new developments and latest trends in denim design. The highlights also included the new business lounge with its handmade roof out of bamboo plants.

SEMINAR PROGRAM As part of the trade show, a comprehensive seminar program focused on sustainability in the denim supply chain.

D

uring the 2 days of the event, a wide range of top-class seminars on sustainability issues was staged. Recognized speakers from different areas of the denim supply chain presented new ideas, fabrics, products and

technologies. How to include sustainability in denim design was the topic of denim

designer Tilmann Wröbel from the Paris design agency Monsieur-T. Additionally, officials from politics and textile institutions from Bangladesh, France, Spain and Germany shared their thoughts about new methods for a sustainable denim production. Mostafiz Uddin, founder of the BANGLADESH DENIM EXPO, also raised questions like : “How can we reach a sustainable growth? And what is a sustainable trend?”
