Week 5 Starting the designDefining my ownpersonal space Emotional Level The sense of privacy or not wanting to be looked at also defines my type of personal space. There are times where I would want to have some time alone rather than being surrounded or having the presence of another person. My mood also determines how my personal space would be like. For instance, if I am sad or angry,I would like to be further away or rather not be seen by anyone. If I am in a more better mood, I would want to mix around with the crowd.

Physical Level From my perspective of personal space,, there are tines where I feel that there is a certain distance that I am conforatable with others. However the distance changes vary on the type of person.

Design progressSketches of ideas

Incorporating both emotion and physical The first part during the designing stage, we decided to incorparate how inflatables can be use as a barrier as well as how it can show the physical distsance.

Happy = closer distance Neutral= moderate distance Sad/Angry= further distance

Cuboid or rectangular shape resembles a neutral feeling.

To incorporate the users emotion as well as creating a personal space for them, we decided to use shapes to show them and create the appropriate distance.

The round or bubblelike shaped infaltable ressembles happiness Spikes/ cone resembles anger or sadness

Chosen Design

Sketch model

When in a nuetral mood, the inflatable will slightly inflate. This creates a normal distance between the users with others

When angry or sad., the inflatable will displlay a coour such as red to show others that they are unset/angry. The inflatable will fully inflate by increasing hte air speed hence creating a larger personal distance. A sketch model was initially made to fully understand how we could constuct the foundation of our design which is the poncho and how it would function.

When in a happy mood, the colour such as yellow can display the emotions. The inflatable will be deflated so that others can move closer to the user

Conclusion

In conclusion with this week’s module completed we now have a deeper understanding of our concept and design. From here on we will look at finalizing the design concept that most suits our idea and what the material choices that will help us achieve that. Due to the restrain that will be caused from the wirings of the fans we might choose a more staitionaty design. The focus was to develop the prototype. We started by creating sketches to illustrait our ideas. Furthermore, while creating it, inflating the prorotype was highly prioritise. My group managed to buy the primary materials for inflating the model. With a few errors and mistakes we finaly came up with a prototype, and although it wasn’t created using the materials we initialy wanted to use, the prototype served it purpose by functioning and looking like the final design we had in mind.
