Looking Back

As I write the August Chairman’s notes, the weather has just topped 30 degrees centigrade and I have just watched Lewis Hamilton (on TV) win the British Grand Prix at Silverstone with a thrilling last few laps.

It always amazes me seeing the Silverstone circuit with the F1 and its entourage, with a totally different layout to what we usually see at MGLive! I always look for the area where we have our camping site, to the side of the Wellington Straight and the view down to Brooklands and Luffield corners.

As a club we have a very well supported motor racing scene, with a two-day event completed in June at Silverstone (which would have been our MGLive! weekend), and then another successful weekend at Donington in July.

Motorsport has been a part of the Club since it began, with road runs, hill climbs and motor racing. This will continue into 2022 albeit in a slightly different format.

Hopefully I will have attended the MGF Register event MGF25 (+ 1) at the British Motor Museum Gaydon on July 24, I say hopefully because as I write I’m not sure if I will have managed to MOT either my 2001 MGF or 2005 TF!

The next major event on our calendar is the Triumph & MG show at the Malvern Showground on August 13-15 2021. The event will host a Concours and Pride of Ownership event, the ever-popular California Cup autotest along with Midget 60 and MG Zed 20

Further details on both events available via www.mgcc.com

Whilst browsing the internet the other day, my wife spotted a Rose Gold plated SEKONDA ladies watch with the MG logo on it for £60, which just happened to be on our Club Shop. The watch was duly purchased and looks great. You can find the watch and more at shop.mgcc.co.uk.

As we now know the Government set the date for the COVID restrictions to be lifted in England on July 19. There is still an amount of uncertainty how this will affect our daily lives and therefore Club events, but clarity will no doubt follow in the coming weeks.

Until then stay safe, and I look forward to seeing you at an MGCC event soon.

KIMBER HOUSE NEWS

With the easing of lockdown, lots of us are starting to venture out and about more in our MGs. The Kimber House team are also keeping busy with a whole host of forthcoming events in our calendar. Do check out the events calendar on www. mgcc.com We’re all very much looking forward to going to the Triumph & MG Weekend later this month – it should be a great event and it will be good to share the weekend with the TR Register and TSSC.

We were recently honoured to welcome to Kimber House Sunil Gavaskar, the Indian cricket commentator and former legendary cricketer. Sunil was greeted by a collection of classic and modern MGs in the Kimber House car park, with the earliest being a 1934 MG PA and the newest being a 2020 MG ZS EV. This was for a very special video that features the MG Car Club. All will be revealed very soon! So, please do keep an eye out on our social media channels and a forthcoming issue of Safety Fast!
