EURHYTHMICS Unlock your child’s inner musician with eurhythmics study. Weekly eurhythmics classes develop musical behaviors through movement, singing, drumming and more, before learning to read music on the page. Youth eurhythmics (ages 3-10) is recommended for children before (or concurrently) learning to play an instrument. Older students (ages 11+) benefit from eurhythmics as a complement to band, orchestra, choir and private study. Classes focus on exploring and enhancing rhythm and pulse – critical components to growth as a musician.

SATO CENTER FOR SUZUKI STUDIES Introduce your child to violin, viola, cello, double bass or piano with the Suzuki method, where children learn music the way they learned to talk – through listening, imitation, repetition and encouragement. Students across all levels embrace the philosophy of lifelong learning, engaging in private lessons, group and theory classes, recitals and workshops. Visit cim.edu/suzuki for information about CIM’s Sato Center for Suzuki Studies.

ENSEMBLES Youth Choirs Children’s Choirs develop healthy vocal technique in an inspiring and fun environment. At the earliest level, children build pitch matching, breathing and listening skills while older students begin to develop advanced expression and harmonic elements. No audition is necessary. Multiple ensembles for grades K-9; students sing with others of similar age and experience. Advanced Chamber Choir assembles advanced choral musicians in a small ensemble to develop independent musicianship through advanced repertoire of varied genres and periods. Singers build strong vocal technique and advanced musicianship that lead to expressive and meaningful performances. Advanced Chamber Choir meets weekly at CIM’s University Circle Campus. For grades 8-12 by audition only. Percussion Ensemble Students collaborate to explore nearly a century of percussion ensemble repertoire. Learn different styles and techniques while collaborating with others. For grades 8-12 by audition only. Offered at CIM’s University Circle campus. Cleveland Youth Wind Symphonies The most talented woodwind, brass and percussion students in Northeast Ohio perform as members of the Cleveland Youth Wind Symphonies (CYWS) each year. Members rehearse weekly on Saturdays at CIM and Case Western Reserve University, both in University Circle. CYWS is available to students entering grades 7-12. Auditions are required. Visit cim.edu/cyws for details.

Chamber Music Grounded in the belief that participation in chamber music develops excellent musicians, CIM offers options for string, piano, woodwind and brass players ages 10-18. Youth learn teamwork and collaboration skills alongside fundamental chamber music techniques and repertoire through weekly coaching with experienced faculty. Enrollment includes access to chamber music master classes and conservatory student mentors. Auditions are required. Chamber music is offered at CIM’s University Circle campus. String Orchestras String Sinfonia: An engaging introduction to ensemble playing for young string players. Students learn musical independence, develop listening and blending skills, as well as how to follow a conductor. Participants are expected to have experience on their instrument, should know how to read basic rhythms and play in major keys up to three sharps and one flat, and minor keys to one sharp and one flat. String Sinfonia members are typically 7-13 years old, depending on experience level. Preparatory Orchestra: Designed for advancing string players who likely play in their school orchestra. Students enhance their skills as ensemble musicians, including collaboration, communication and group expressiveness. Participants are usually ages 8-16, depending on experience level; they should read music in major and minor keys up to four sharps and flats and be adept at beat subdivisions. Auditions are required for both orchestras, which rehearse on Saturdays at CIM’s University Circle campus.

Pre-College students receive weekly hour-long private lessons; attend weekly classes such as piano, music theory and eurhythmics; and participate in one of CIM’s advanced ensembles. Students develop advanced performance experience through a variety of recitals, concerts and performance juries each semester. In addition, each Pre-College student receives individual guidance through semester advisement meetings and college preparation guidance from experienced admissions staff. They also receive complimentary tickets to almost every Cleveland Orchestra performance at Severance Hall, full privileges at CIM’s Robinson Music Library, seminars on relevant topics and access to all conservatory master classes and performances.
