Floor marking for facility safety Floor markings are a great option for improving the safety of a facility. When planning to use floor markings, however, it is important to think things through in order to get the best results. There are a number of questions that need to be asked and answered before any action is taken, or these efforts may actually cause more harm than good. What type of floor marking should be used? When considering floor markings for floor safety, there are two main options to consider. The first, and most popular option for most types of facilities, is going to be floor marking tape. There are many different types available depending on the specific needs of a facility. Anti-slip tape, glow-in-the-dark tape, reflective tape, and others are all available for use. You can even get precut shapes made from floor marking tape to help make the whole process easier. The other option is floor marking paint. Paint can be applied easily in most environments, though it does need time to dry completely. Paint can be applied using simple roller tool, stencils, or a machine depending on the environment. What are the OSHA requirements? Anytime you are attempting to improve facility safety, it is necessary to consider what governmental regulations are going to apply. In most cases, this means looking at the standards put forth by OSHA. Floor markings are addressed by OSHA in their standard on materials and storage, which falls under 29 CFR 1910.176. In this set of standards, you'll learn that OSHA specifies that floor markings lines have to be a minimum of 2" wide, which is essential for visibility. They can be wider, and OSHA even states that 2-6'' in width is ideal. The OSHA standards are typically going to be quite easy to follow, but if they aren't understood ahead of time, it could become necessary to remove and replace the markings in order to comply. Can floor markings identify hazards? In addition to using floor markings to help guide people through a facility safely, it is also possible to use markings to identify specific hazards that should be avoided. larly dangerous machine, near places where falling objects may occur, or any other hazard, is a great form of visual communication. The tape around these areas should be colored or patterned in a unique way so that everyone can immediately recognize what the markings mean. We’ve used black and yellow patterned markings are used to identify a gap in the floor where a moving machine works. Those working in the area will be able to identify the risk as they approach, and make sure to stay away from the danger. Are you planning for consistency? One of the most important things that you can do when planning floor markings for facility safety is ensure that the same standards are used throughout the company. This is most important when applying floor markings within one facility since employees will often have to work in many areas in the building. It will also apply for companies that have multiple facilities in different areas. Some businesses, for example, have a manufacturing building and then a warehouse. Making sure the same strategies are used in both locations will help to avoid confusion and ensure the best results for improved safety. Stock is crucial In today’s world it is expected that when an order is placed, stock is at hand for immediate shipment. The two-day delivery has become the norm for many parts orders in the USA. And, if the parts warehouse is on the east coast shipping to the west coast, then, many times a two-day delivery service is called upon. But remember, this was not always the case. In my almost 45 years of service, I can recall when there were two ways orders could be placed with a parts company. The most popular was to mail purchase orders to the parts company and the other was to call-in an order to the parts company by telephone. When you received an order by phone it was a rush order. Rush orders still took usually one week to 10 days for delivery. Can you imagine one week to 10 days was a normal delivery for parts? There were many reasons for this one since there were no easy ways to ship parts fast. If the order was a rush, I remember taking parts to the airport and shipping via Delta Airlines Air Cargo. This was extremely expensive. One of my cost effective ways to ship rush orders were by Greyhound Bus. I used to be over at the bus station at least once a day shipping a “rush” parts order. Keep in mind, this whole process is when the customer knew the part numbers and what he needed. Can you now imagine, if the customer didn’t have a parts manual. Now you had to make copies on the copier and send him/her hard copies via the mail or mail the whole book. Remember, this is even before the fax machine. Remember, we had the mail and the telephone. Back then, it was a challenge just to communicate and customers would test you every day. In those days, it was very stressful to listen to the problems without a quick response because there were no quick responses. My delivery of parts were typically 5-7 days after receipt of the order and at that time in history it was very competitive. Back then, orders had to be more exact, because of the time it took, there was no time for error. If wrong parts were ordered or delivered, then that would create a big problem. It wasn’t unusual to see equipment down for a month. And the OEM’s were the worst offenders for parts delivery. Many were so complacent and arrogant, the aftermarket parts sold themselves. It was normal for many of the OEM’s to ship your order in 7-10 days. Can you imagine if that 14

happened toda ? The industrial business some 35 years was so massive in the United States, the OEM’s didn’t seemed to care if you bought parts from them or not. They figured that there was plenty of business out there with other companies if you didn’t want to buy. And they charged outrageous prices too. I saw some dealers charging 20 or 25% over list for the parts at that time. In the late 1980’s something changed the ordering process forever. That was the fax machine. The fax machine overnight changed how communications were conducted. Not long after, UPS started offering a NDA service and our lives were forever changed. Customers could now place orders via fax and order it UPS/NDA. Also, you could send parts pages to your customer via fax if he/she didn’t have a parts manual for their equipment which cut a week off ordering parts. The fax changed everything. With that being said, today we have many, many ways to communicate. But one thing hasn’t changed, stock is still crucial to the fundamental way of doing business. Normal down time for equipment has been cut from 1-2 weeks some 35 years ago to just one to two days. If you really need it up and running, then there is same day delivery offered by UPS in some areas. With me still involved supplying replacement parts, we can ship same day and pull parts from some eight warehouses. We can cover 92% of the US market with one day ground service so things have changed quite a bit. Meal prep step #1: Start with a plan Before you ever step foot in the kitchen to start the process of cooking and packing your meals, it is important to get an overview plan of your needs. Ask yourself what are your dietary needs and how many meals will you eat each day? Meal prep step #2: Find pre-made options It’s not practical to expect that you will make every component of your meal prep meals from scratch. Utilize a local supermarket to pick up some of the items on your meal prep list, which may include: Roasted Chicken, Turkey or Pork and fresh fruit and veggies. Meal prep step #3: Create a list of recipes Start prepping with recipes you already know. When you feel comfortable, add more. You can find simple, wholesome recipes on-line. Bookmark websites or create and keep a recipe file. Keep staple ingredients on hand and note ingredients needed to make the recipes. Try incorporating your favorite slow cooker recipes into your meal plan. Meal prep step #4: Go shopping Take your list of ingredients and your list of pre-made foods and get shopping! Don’t forget to stock up on storage containers that are freezer safe, dishwasher safe, microwaveable, stackable, reusable and preferably clear. Clear containers allow you to quickly see what’s inside. Meal prep step #5: Start cooking Pick a day that is convenient for you to prepare all your meals. Meal prepping takes time. Make sure to dedicate a couple of hours out of your day to cook the recipes on your list. Meal prep step #6: Measure and pack your meals It’s time to create your daily meals assembly line! Line up your containers and fill them accordingly. Be sure to keep portion sizes in mind by using food scales and measuring cups. Meal prep step #7: Grab-n-go Simply grab your meals at the start of your day and pack with plenty of cold packs. Meal prepping is the new fast food. Prep once. Eat healthy all week. Hygienic, practical, corrosion resistant, flexible - these are just some of the features of the stainless Logitilt from Logitrans. The stainless Logitilt is a corrosion-resistant solution for the lifting and tilting of boxes on pallets to an ergonomically correct working position. It is suitable for the food industry and other lines of businesses having a need for equipment being able to withstand moist environments. The Logitilt has an IP value of 44. The Logitilt is compact and has a low own weight and can therefore operate between machines and production lines where space is often restricted. The lifting capacity is 1000 kg, the forks can be tilted up to 90°, and the lifting height can be adjusted from 750 to 950 mm.
Gaynes Labs completed testing on the new hybrid wood-corrugated NextPallet supporting 2400 lbs. At just 26.5 lbs., the heavyweight version of the NextPallet hauls and racks like much heavier wood pallets (see test results). New OnRobot aims to become world leader
Enrico Krog Iversen, former CEO of the collaborative robot pioneer, Universal Robots, along with the Danish Growth Fund, is addressing the next challenge in automation with the merger of three innovative end-ofarm tooling companies to facilitate the ongoing growth of collaborative robotics, an industry expected to reach $8.5 billion by 2025. The new company combines U.S.based Perception Robotics, Hungary-based OptoForce, and Denmark-based On Robot to become OnRobot, which will drive innovation and ease-of-use for robotic end-of-arm tooling.
