A DENSIFICATION STRATEGY FOR ROTTERDAM INNER CITY
Blijdorp Gateway
Hoboken Junction
Overview : A study about densification method, based on Economic Driven Development strategies. This project extensively deals with finding the relation within building density (FSI/GSI/OSR) and building form (urban design).
Kop van Maas
The final product of the project is the envelope design guidelines for the line along the ‘s Gravendijkwal of Rotterdam. Three main spots (Blijdorp Gateway, Hoboken Junction, and Kop van de Maas) will be the stimulation development points of the so-called “Knowledge Economy” line of Rotterdam inner city.

THE COMPARISONS
The inner city of Rotterdam has a vision to add 10,000 new dwellings within the area. This proposal address the questions of how to achive this vision and how to maximise the potentiality of the site to strengthen the inner city network. MUNICIPALITY STUDY 10,000 new dwellings?

Blijdorp Gateway Blijdorp Gateway is the entrance point of the knowledge economy line. The proximity to the Central Station is the main feature of the spot, creates the value to increase the density and host the vocational schools (HBO/MBO) next to the CBD district. LANDPORT 2040 - PERSPECTIVE MAP
The strategy proposes the new network of Landport in the cooperation with the Randstad. Taking the potential of Lelystad, the new economic corridor Amsterdam-Almere-Lelystad is intorduced as the motor of the G, GREY RED/GREEN BELT, BLUE BELT newLINES, network. Economic ring and infrastructure enhancement is plotted as the first phase of the strategy, and later on the high quality living with the recreational landscape areas will fill in the so-called the “Residential Heart”.

role : urban designer in the urban design team responsibilities: - Visualization: the masterplan and a set of urban design guidelines diagrams - Arranging a project report Project Overview: Nha Bhe New Town is a water city project in a swampy area of Nha Bhe, Vietnam. EDAW|AECOM consults the planning of a new town development, in range of economic, environment, and urban design principles. The development concept was lead by the river: it naturally divides the site into four main parts, which were given distinct concepts: canal, leisure, commercial, and new town districts. The result was a set of urban design guidelines with extensive landscape design intervention.

role : urban designer in the urban design team responsibilities: - Research on case studies and the context of the historical city center - Visualization: build up the 3D image in Sketchup - Arranging a project report
Project Overview: This is a short-listed competition of the urban revitalization in the capital of Vietnam. EDAW|AECOM ranked the 4th of the final result. The scheme counts the waterfront as the main point of the revitalization, connecting the North(maritime leisure center)-South(media center), West(old center)-East(the emerging new town, Tu Thiem district).

role : urban designer in the urban design team responsibilities: - Research on case studies and the context of the historical city center - Arranging a project report Project Overview: Revitalization project in the heart of the historical center of Georgetown, Malaysia. The proposal is based on the improvement of the public spaces. The waterfront revitalization was the starting point of the development scheme, and by the landscape design and urban program, the waterfront connector lines intrudes the center and make the old center regeneration possible to the next phase.

STRATEGY The intervention is based on the existing fact there’s a fear of water from the flooding in 1941. The main idea of intervention is to ease the fear by bringing the people to use the water. Water bus/taxi is introduced in cooperation with the city’s main transfer point of Mercado, using the iconic and transparent station as the means of attraction. The second opportunity to grasp is the green boulevard of Sepulveda Avenue. The iconic green avenue of the historical center could be elongated to the water to make the blue avenue with more playful characteristic yet preserve the historical value of the axis.

Overview : The project was within 14 days of workshop in collaboration of TU Delft and University of Buenos Aires. It is a waterfront revitalization project in the historical district of La Boca and low income settlements of Avellaneda. The strategy based on the globalization theory of European Sustainable Development Perspective (ESDP) which is adapted to local context. Careful intervention was done in order to empower local economic activities, promote the cultural cohesion, and refine the environment condition.
