Kick off the fun February 28 with Winter Party Festival, a weeklong LGBTQ+ celebration of music, dance and community. Don’t miss the marquee event: a seven-hour beach bash and massive dance party featuring DJs from around the globe. In April, mix and mingle at Miami Beach Pride, one of the largest Pride festivals in the country. The 10-day-long celebration culminates in a 50-float Pride parade. Later in April, tap into your artsy side at the OUTshine Film Festival, featuring viewings of films by established and emerging LGBTQ+ filmmakers as well as panel discussions, happy hours and after-parties.

In mid-May, check out SweetHeat Miami, with events created by women for women throughout Greater Miami & Miami Beach. June brings the always-amazing Wynwood Pride music festival, No Fear, We’re Queer Comedy, Arsht Center’s CommuniTea Dance plus dozens of events in celebration of Pride Month.

As a community that has welcomed LGBTQ+ visitors for decades, Miami offers a gorgeous backdrop of sea, sky, sand and sun to frame the meaningful “I will,” “I do” or the first “I love you.” Let’s take a quick tour of some of the most memory-making locations for these love-affirming moments.

Proving that the best things in life are free, Miami’s beaches, such as South Pointe Park in Miami Beach and Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park’s historic lighthouse in Key Biscayne, offer opportunities for a priceless (yet priceconscious) setting to create and capture the moment in a unique environment. Does your idea of a celebration include food and friends? Bring your favorite people together at South Pointe Park’s waterfront Smith & Wollensky restaurant. If you time your celebration just right, you can watch the skyscraper-high, mega-cruise ships sailing right by when they set sail from PortMiami as the sun sets over the skyline.

If you are enamored with the ocean, envision a wedding where the rhythmic embrace of the waves becomes the backdrop to your special celebration on a yacht charter from Water Fantaseas, Island Queen Cruises and Tours or Celebration Yacht at Coconut Grove Marina.

BLING! GETTING READY IS HALF THE FUN

Shopping for your wedding outfit, invitation or ring in Mami is far easier than finding “THE one,” especially when nearly everything you need for your special day is concentrated in one place: Miracle Mile in Coral Gables. Known as “the City Beautiful,” this is one of the most historic neighborhoods in Greater Miami & Miami Beach. It was developed in the 1920s, inspired by Mediterranean, Spanish and Italian villages. The Miracle Mile promenade has been the destination for all the accoutrements of a love celebration since the mid-1940s. With its charming and very walkable street-level stores and restaurants, the actual half-mile “Mile” is wedding prep central.

THE FINE (LEGAL) PRINT

Like anywhere else, if you’re getting married in Miami, you’ll have to make time to dot the i’s in your “I do’s” by registering for a marriage license and making time for either a four-hour premarital course or a three-day waiting period. You can even register at the Miami Beach District Court, which is located in the same beautiful, Art Deco-style building as the LGBT Visitor Center. Piece of wedding cake, right? Greater Miami & Miami Beach is home to a thriving LGBTQ+ community that celebrates diversity and inclusivity. In recent years, the destination has become a hub for queer performance artists who are breaking down barriers and challenging societal norms through their art. From drag queens and singers to choreographers and dancers, Miami is teeming with talented performers who are pushing the boundaries of what is considered mainstream entertainment.

1. SUZI ANALOGUE (SHE/THEY)

Suzi Analogue is a producer, composer and songwriter who is an innovator in the electronic music genre. As the founder of Miami’s Never Normal Records and a member of the Recording Academy, she has established herself as a leader in the new wave of women producers. “I’m really inspired by the opportunity to liberate myself and others through creativity,” she says. “My identity influences me to challenge what people perceive as masculine or feminine, and just do whatever my spirit leads me to do.” With a unique blend of cutting-edge music technology and electronic experimentation they have gained worldwide recognition, with their music being featured on Billboard charts and New York Fashion Week runways. Dubbed a “badass producer” by Teen Vogue, Suzi Analogue is a true creative force who is paving the way for the next generation of electronic musicians. “I’m grateful for the support of my community who sees me push the limits and the boundaries of what people expect, and do exactly what I want to do, how I want to do it, which is the beauty of being queer.”

2. CULTURA (SHE/HER)

Cultura is a choreographer, creative director and musician who has made a name for herself in the Latin dance industry. She has blended her Cuban heritage with a clubstyle foundation to create her distinctive style of choreography and movement. “In my storytelling, I find inspiration in things going on around and within me, especially as a Cuban woman in the LGBTQ+ community living in Florida,” says Cultura. “Being an artist within the LGBTQ+ community means I have a responsibility to be a voice for the voiceless and to shed light on the realities of our dayto-day in a conscious and respectful way.” Cultura has worked with a long list of famous artists and choreographed several awards shows, including the VMAs and Latin Billboard. In April 2021, she opened her own studio in the Wynwood Arts District called Cambio Studio, which aims to raise the standard and

push dancers to train with love for the craft. “My style is a mixture of my experiences as a dance educator and choreographer traveling the world and experiencing different cultures and communities,” she says.

3. FRANCIA (HE/HIM)

Francia is a singer-songwriter whose music is a reflection of his unique background. With roots in both Venezuela and Africa, his work is a creative fusion of cultures that blends different genres and languages. From soulful ballads to high-energy tracks, Francia’s music is a testament to his versatility as an artist. “Influenced by my Venezuelan heritage, I playfully combine multilingual storytelling with the sounds of my ancestors, displaying my chameleon-like talent of blending genres,” he says. “I’m inspired by nature, traveling to new places and the opportunity to be an artist and storyteller in a period of unprecedented resources to create.” Beyond simply entertaining, his music also serves a healing purpose, inspired by his deep connection to yoga and meditation. In addition, Francia is a co-host on LATV Network/LATV Root’s show, “Blacktinidad,” covering Afro-Latinx issues, as well as an anchor on HappeningOut TV Network’s “Queer News Tonight,” covering LGBTQ+ stories. “As an LGBTQ+ creator, I take full advantage of the freedom and liberation that my queer heroes fought for,” he says. “I often blur that gender binary by dressing across gender lines and showing the world that one does not need to change anything at all to be able to wear any item one finds beautiful or appealing.” His first album, “Infinita,” is streaming on all music platforms.

4. RANDOLPH WARD (HE/HIM)

Randolph Ward, the renowned choreographer behind RTWDANCE, has made a name for himself in the dance world with an impressive 15-year career that has taken him across the United States and through Europe and Asia. Born and raised in Miami, his love for dance and teaching began in his hometown. “Dance

allows me the power, privilege and license to create safe spaces that encourage audience members to engage in respectful yet conscious conversation about humanity while critically thinking about current-day societal issues,” says Ward. He has presented works across Greater Miami & Miami Beach, including at the Little Haiti Cultural Arts Complex in Little Haiti, the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts in Downtown Miami and the historic Colony Theatre in Miami Beach. “As an artist, my queerness is a part of me but not all of me,” he says. “I am most interested in using this man-made social construct of ‘queer identity’ to examine ideas of community, love, desire, tenacity and identity to bridge multiple lenses of human understanding and experience.” Ward is the creator, producer and choreographer of “Boys Will Be Boys” and has received numerous awards for his work.

5. PIONEER WINTER (HE/THEY)

Pioneer Winter is a choreographer and the artistic director of Pioneer Winter Collective, a local dance-theater company. Their work is rooted in social practice and community, focusing on queer visibility and beauty beyond the mainstream. “The work I do is inherently queer,” says Winter. “My work is intergenerational and physically integrated. I am inspired to create dance theater performances as a way of making sense of the world.” Winter is known for democratizing performance in public spaces, museums and galleries, stage and film. Their objective is to expand the definition of dance to include all bodies, regardless of race, body type, age and ability, and to ensure that they are seen and appreciated by audiences. “I like to say, ‘I make dances out of necessity,’ so in that way, the movement, vocabulary, themes and motifs shift according to every project I experience,” he says. Winter’s work has been commissioned by several respected organizations, including the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts, and has received support from several foundations.

The vibrant restaurant scene in Greater Miami & Miami Beach is famous for its fusion of cultures, bold flavors and innovative dining experiences. Beyond its delectable offerings, this thriving dining landscape also celebrates diversity and inclusivity through the presence of LGBTQ-owned-andoperated restaurants. From cozy cafes to upscale eateries and lively drag brunches, these Miami hot spots are more than just places to dine – they’re symbols of pride and progress for the LGBTQ+ community. Check out some of the best LGBTQ-owned restaurants in neighborhoods across Miami.

MARION

This dynamic LGBTQ-owned restaurant and cocktail lounge melds New American and Asian-inspired flavors seamlessly, igniting the heart of Brickell with its hip and sophisticated vibe. Signature Marion dishes include the green papaya salad, Australian lamb chops, Nebraska prime rib eye and the tuna pizzetta. A favorite on the sushi menu is the Kobe roll, torched tableside with asparagus, shrimp tempura, truffle yuzu ponzu and snow crab. Finish your meal with the Marion Imperial Experience, a decadent chef’s assortment of desserts, ice cream and fruit. The ambience at Marion is a crescendo of excitement, gradually building as the night unfolds – lights dimming, music building and the atmosphere transforming into an all-encompassing party scene.

Special Happenings: Every week, Marion presents Lobster Tuesdays, a lavish affair offering lobster specials, such as the lobster sushi roll and lobster mac and cheese.

PHUC YEA

In 2011, Phuc Yea burst onto Miami’s culinary scene, paying homage to owners Chef Cesar Zapata and Ani Meinhold’s Colombian and Vietnamese heritage. Its queer influence is reflected in its cocktail menu, which features the popular Say Gay cocktail – a spicy spin on a mezcal margarita with passion fruit, red bell, Thai bird chili and lime. Its eclectic menu includes classics like the seafood ceviche and watermelon salad along with creative bao buns, such as the sweet and sour Vietnamese fried chicken bao, made with pineapple sweet and sour sauce, sriracha and jalapeño. Save room for the classic coconut croissant bread pudding, which is served hot with coconut rum custard, condensed milk and chocolate chunks.

Foodie Tip: Don’t miss the incredible P.Y. Noodles, a signature dish with fresh egg noodles, garlic butter, oyster sauce and parmesan cheese. (Trust us, the mix of flavors works… and you might find yourself ordering more than one.)

CASABLANCA SEAFOOD BAR & GRILL

Casablanca Seafood Bar & Grill, an LGBTQowned seafood gem, is situated along the historic and picturesque Miami River and offers incredible sunset views of the

Downtown Miami skyline. An upscale yet relaxed waterfront establishment that exudes laid-back charm, Casablanca provides an idyllic backdrop for romantic evenings or family outings. Boasting more than three decades of mastery in the seafood industry and a menu that features locally and globally inspired seafood delicacies, Casablanca also includes a popular fish market. Some menu highlights include the sizzling grilled octopus, tuna tartare and sea bass. If you prefer a truly unique seafood experience, opt for the Casablanca Parrillada – a mix of pan-seared snapper, lobster tail, prawns, calamari, shrimp, oysters, mussels, ragout of vegetables and roasted potatoes.

Foodie Tip: Locals flock to Casablanca for the lobster thermidor, a French dish featuring a creamy Dijon mustard sauce with lobster chunks flambéed with a touch of cognac and topped with broiled mozzarella cheese.

KLAW MIAMI

Nestled in Miami’s Edgewater neighborhood, Klaw Miami is an LGBTQ-owned surf and turf haven of culinary creativity. The significance of its location, inside the historic Miami Women’s Club building in Margaret Pace Park, echoes the rich fabric of Miami’s heritage. In honor of this legacy, Klaw Miami donates a portion of the proceeds from select cocktails to local charities. The star dish at Klaw is the Norwegian king crab harvested straight from the fishing village

of Bugøynes in Northern Norway and served simply with lemon and garlic butter. Splurge for the caviar service, served with deviled eggs, toasted sare (sourdough) wheat bread, whipped whey butter and crème fraîche. The restaurant is also known for its Kobe beef and steaks, which are dry-aged in-house and cooked over a live fire fueled by a mix of local Florida hardwoods.

Special Happening: Mondays through Saturdays, the restaurant offers a rooftop happy hour, with snacks for $12 and classic cocktails for $10.

SOFIA DESIGN DISTRICT

Located in the upscale shopping mecca of the Miami Design District, the Sofia Design District restaurant is a beacon of culinary artistry and LGBTQ+ pride. Sofia’s everchanging seasonal menu presents a balance of authentic Italian flavors and innovative twists, and its ambience flaunts a chic and inviting feminine essence. For over 30 years, Palace has dazzled patrons with drag performances and drag brunches and treated guests to unparalleled views of iconic Ocean Drive on its rooftop bar. Although this hot spot is set right in the middle of the Miami Beach action, Palace is not just a place to see and be seen; it’s a cultural landmark that embodies the vibrant LGBTQ+ spirit of its destination. Led by Colombian Executive Chef Jose Saavedra, the menu at Palace is as eclectic as its performers. Appetizers include the “quesadiva” (or quesadilla), Thai gyoza, cauliflower bites and tuna tartare. Mains include an assortment of salads, tacos, sandwiches, pastas and burgers, and entrees like the fresh catch of the day and the St. Louis ribs. The signature cocktails here are a must. PEZ LOCO

Located in vibrant Wynwood, Pez Loco is an emblem of culinary ingenuity and LGBTQ+ pride. Spearheaded by the accomplished Ari Taymor, a James Beard Award nominee, the restaurant surely transcends boundaries and traditions. Drawing inspiration from his experiences in Los Angeles and Mexico, Chef Taymor infuses Pez Loco with a fusion of flavors that pays homage to these regions with bold, coastal flavors. The menu is separated by “Mar” (sea), “Tierra” (ground) and “Carne” (meats). Dishes include the guava ceviche tostada, octopus ragu pasta, seared scallops, sweet potato tamale and the shitake tinga tostada. Save room for dessert, like the Baked Miami with Key Lime curd, graham cracker crumble, smoked marshmallow and coconut sorbet.

Foodie Tip: After dinner, visit Copal, the rooftop bar at Pez Loco. It offers a selection of dishes along with signature drinks, such as the ¡Ay Mami! with passion fruit, ginger,

R HOUSE

The eclectic R House not only serves up delicious food but also serves as a vibrant community hub for Miami’s LGBTQ+ locals and visitors. Established in 2014 by business partners and husband-and-husband duo Rocco Carulli and Owen Bale, R House emerged as a fusion restaurant-art gallery in Wynwood. Home to the nationally acclaimed weekly drag brunch featuring drag diva Athena Dion, R House has become an epicenter of queer entertainment, creativity and acceptance. The Latin-inspired menu includes an assortment of delicious sharing plates, including arepas, empanadas and croquetas. The tostones topped with shrimp, pork or grilled hearts of palm are a favorite. Large plates include carne asada, short rib ropa vieja and cayenne fried chicken. During drag brunch, be the star of the show and order the La Pina Loca cocktail, a whole pineapple filled with piña colada plus five shots of house liquor and sparklers. R House also supports

LGBTQ+ powerhouse Chef Eileen Andrade stands at the helm of culinary innovation in Miami with her renowned fusion restaurants: Finka Table & Tap in West Kendall and Barbakoa by Finka at The Doral Yard.

An LGBTQ+ advocate, Andrade designed her restaurants to be culinary havens and spaces of acceptance and celebration for all. Finka Table & Tap opened in 2014, blending Cuban, Peruvian and Korean influences to create an eclectic dining experience. Diners quickly discovered Andrade’s culinary skills with favorites like the fried alligator jalea, tostones topped with vaca frita and the arroz con pollo fritters, a creative

spin on chicken with rice. The creativity extends to the pizza menu, including the vaca frita pizza and the signature ham croqueta pizza topped with croquetas from Islas Canarias Restaurant.

Led by Reuben Ruiz, Airport Cafe & Liquors is an LGBTQ-owned restaurant in Miami Springs conveniently located near Miami International Airport. Since its inception in 2007, Airport Cafe has remained a family-

owned-and-operated establishment, while continuously serving top-tier food, spirits and entertainment. The restaurant offers a diverse selection of food – including large, juicy burgers and Latin American favorites –along with an on-site liquor store. The overthe-top burgers include the ham and bacon burger, the Jameson apricot-glazed cheddar burger and the unique Dr. Pepper bourbonglazed pepper jack burger. Delicious sandwiches are also offered, like a Cuban sandwich, a croqueta sandwich and a deep-fried breaded chicken sandwich. mortar location in South Beach, outposts at Hard Rock Stadium and the Miami Beach Convention Center, and a fleet of roving food trucks. Affectionately referred to as “The Queen of South Beach,” Vitori runs an equal-opportunity workplace that fosters the professional growth of women from all walks of life within the community. As a testament to the restaurant’s allure, even LGBTQ+ icon Beyoncé herself once made a memorable stop at Cheese Burger Baby. Diners flock here for the simple and delicious burgers. Order the classic 15th Street frita burger, featuring a handcrafted burger patty topped with pepper jack cheese, potato sticks and the signature 1505 sauce. Fries on the side are a must. For those not in the mood for a burger, the spot also offers cheesesteaks, hot dogs, chicken tenders and chicken wings.

If you’re looking for a night out at one of Miami’s hot gay bars or nightclubs, you have plenty to choose from. Whether it’s a drag show on Ocean Drive, boozie bingo at a lobby bar inside a gay hotel, or a late night on the dance floor of South Beach’s longest-running gay club, Miami’s gay nightlife is always a good time.

AZUCAR NIGHTCLUB

Not to be confused with the beloved Little Havana ice cream shop with a similar name, Azucar Nightclub is a lively Latin LGBTQ+ club just off Coral Way. Hostess Rosario de la Vega, or Oyacito, as she’s known on social media, ensures a lively vibe. From weekly cabaret shows to special events, like the Miss Azucar drag queen pageant, the scene here is always energetic. DJs are sure to draw everyone onto the dance floor. There’s always something wild and fun going down at Azucar Nightclub.

BAR GAYTHERING AT HOTEL GAYTHERING

Situated on Lincoln Road in South Beach inside Hotel Gaythering, which proudly calls itself the “gayest hotel in Miami Beach,” Bar Gaythering is the cheeky, approachable lobby bar that plays host to a variety of theme nights and a daily happy hour from 5 to 8 p.m. The red-and-black décor lends the Gaythering a sexy vibe, and the mood can range from laid-back to anything goes, depending on the time of night. On Monday nights, comedy queen Blamie Forret hosts karaoke. Wednesday nights mean trivia. On Thursday nights, Blamie hosts Boozie Bingo. The hotel is also home to a men’s sauna if you fancy some steam before or after a trip to the bar.

BLACKBIRD ORDINARY

Tuesday evenings at Blackbird Ordinary near Brickell have evolved into the ultimate hangout for many queer women and lesbians during ladies’ night. After all, who can resist a night filled with complimentary drinks for the ladies until 1 a.m.? While Blackbird Ordinary may not be explicitly designated as a gay or lesbian bar and their ladies’ night isn’t exclusively tailored for the queer community, it has somehow transformed into a go-to spot for queer women on Tuesday evenings. The crowd is delightfully mixed and diverse, so expect a vibrant atmosphere.

CLUB BOI

For a wild night out, look no further than Club Boi for pop-up parties on the last Saturday of every month. The event serves up urban and Caribbean vibes with flashing neon lights, bottle service and a high-energy dance floor. DJs Dias and Gavin spin crowd-pleasing mixes, with everything from hip-hop to R&B, reggae, soca and dancehall, to keep the party grooving.

DOUBLE STUBBLE AT GRAMPS

Head to Gramps in Wynwood on Thursday nights for the raucous Double Stubble party with resident DJs Hottpants and Zehno plus a rotating cast of drag queens as well as trans and non-binary performers. The sprawling indoor-outdoor bar with a pizza window is a local favorite, drawing a diverse crowd out for a good time. Drag queen Karla Croqueta hosts the festivities, serving up a free-spirited and irreverent night out.

KILL YOUR IDOL

A beloved South Beach dive bar with a punk spirit, Kill Your Idol has been a mainstay on Española Way since 2012. This spot promises cheap drinks and live music with no cover and no reservations. Although any night of the week at Kill Your Idol is solid, don’t miss the monthly Gender Blender, featuring drag burlesque entertainers, performance artists and queercentric rock bands and DJs.

PALACE BAR & RESTAURANT

Palace is South Beach’s iconic gay bar on Ocean Drive, famous for daily drag shows and a weekend drag brunch featuring queens

sashaying down the sidewalk and entertaining everyone in sight. From Fantasia Royale Gaga to CC Glitzer, Palace is home to some of Miami’s top drag queen talent. With a massive outdoor patio and sidewalk seating, the indoor bar is often a high-energy, DJ-fueled scene. Whether you want drag served with your brunch, lunch or dinner, the time is always right for a visit to Palace. And if you’re looking for a day at the beach, right across the street from the bar is the semi-official 11th/12th Street gay beach, which has a rainbow lifeguard tower and a scene of its own.

NATHAN’S BEACH CLUB

Situated in the heart of Washington Avenue, Nathan’s Beach Club, formerly Nathan’s Video Bar, is one of South Beach’s best known gay bars. Come on weeknights for DJs and dancing, or come on the weekend to check out the speakeasy in the back, perfect for a more-private VIP experience. Watch out for concerts featuring well-known performers, like Robbie Ellis. For those who remember Nathan’s nostalgic videos featuring old-school TV shows, you’ll still be able to watch them in the main room.

LPN! has found its Miami home at El Palenque Nightclub in the heart of Little Havana, a vibrant setting that truly comes alive after dark. The energy of the party intensifies as the clock strikes 5:30 a.m., ushering in a morning filled with pulsating beats and electrifying vibes. Renowned DJs like Alex Lo, Otto + Mark Oz, and Yordy Joe Pacheco take the stage, curating an unforgettable experience. R HOUSE

Over the years, their concept evolved in collaboration with drag queen Athena Dion and DJ Jody McDonald, transforming into a multifaceted cultural hub. The sprawling indoor/ outdoor warehouse-style space continues to captivate with its culinary delights and

vibrant artistic expressions. Today, R House is a gay entertainment mecca with a lively weekend drag brunch. Stop by for happy hour specials Wednesday through Friday. On Friday evenings, come out for Yas Queen, hosted by Athena Dion and starring Miami’s fiercest queens. The Saturday Escandalo! party boasts a Miami-style drag show with a Latin twist, featuring a live salsa band. With Chef Rocco’s creative Latin cuisine and mixology program, a visit to R House is both sophisticated and high-spirited.

SKY BAR AT AXEL BEACH MIAMI

Situated inside a historic Art Deco building (where, fun fact, part of ”Ace Ventura: Pet Detective” was filmed), Axel Beach Miami is a South Beach hotel that caters specifically to gay travelers.
