2015 Auxiliary Programs Annual Report

Miami Country Day School’s Auxiliary Programs fulfill the school’s mission of educating the whole child and facilitating lifelong learning. Year-round and summer offerings are geared toward enriching the lives of students and the community at large. These programs facilitate the development of the intellectual, physical, aesthetic, social, emotional, and spiritual potentials of every student, every day.

Welcome to the 2014-2015 Auxiliary Programs Annual Report! This document showcases Miami Country Day School’s various auxiliary programs and their many accomplishments during the 2014-2015 fiscal year. As you peruse the pages of this report, I hope you appreciate how each program reflects the school’s mission of providing a holistic education and inspiring lifelong learners. From enrichment and academic opportunities for our students and campers to ways of interacting with our local community, our year-round and summer programs positively contribute to the fabric of the school each day. In reflecting on my first year as Director of Auxiliary Programs and Corporate Operations, I am grateful for the incredible and resourceful program directors and staff, whose efforts are represented in this report. I would also like to thank Kim Arredondo, Alice Florin, Jacquie Niang, and Chris Polite for raising the quality of service provided to our families and students in each of their respective areas. Of course, our work would not be possible without the encouragement and guidance of the Auxiliary Programs Committee of the Board of Trustees, Dr. John Davies, and Gary Butts, as well as the support provided by the following departments: admissions, business office, development, divisional offices, data and web services, food services, HR, IT, maintenance, and security. I hope you enjoy reading about the myriad of program offerings and ways of engaging with Country Day. The children and community members we serve are at the heart of what we do, and I look forward to continuing our commitment to them in the coming year. Christian Ashley Martell

THANK YOU COLUMBIA CLANCY ’11 In August of 2011, the administration and faculty of Miami Country Day School undertook the challenge of creating a “Portrait of a Graduate,” a document listing the qualities our graduates would possess at the end of their Country Day experience. While Columbia Clancy may have graduated a few months prior to the drafting of the Portrait of a Graduate, anyone who knows her can attest to this: she embodies the ideal Country Day graduate wholeheartedly. In her role as the school’s Corporate Operations Associate this summer, Columbia assisted various offices on campus, but was truly instrumental in moving the school’s Auxiliary Programs forward. As a thank you for all that she accomplished for the school in such a short time, those of us involved with Auxiliary Programs would like to use the Portrait of a Graduate to highlight her many accomplishments this summer. Be intellectually curious and an independent thinker For your first summer project, you dove into the school’s archives and rich history and pored through campus dedication videos to make the Garner Campus Commemorative Book a very memorable piece. Demonstrate confidence in their abilities and resilience in the face of challenges and disappointments Your ability to synthesize large amounts of information to highlight the best of each program is evident in the pages of this Auxiliary Programs Annual Report. Your resilience undergoing the design and printing process for the first time was admirable, especially with only a few days of graphic design experience under your belt. Evidence a commitment to lifelong learning and reading in their personal and professional lives As if picking up graphic design over the course of a few weeks wasn’t enough of a testament of this characteristic, you were also a constant source for book recommendations. Some of us are still trying to finish The Boys in the Boat. Demonstrate good character and make good choices The afternoon Fun Bus to Aventura was not only fun for our campers, but also safe with you as a chaperone. Practice honor, respect, wisdom, compassion and mindfulness Columbia you consistently exhibited the school’s core values and mindfulness, but perhaps the most striking exemplification of these core values wasa whenever you were around your brother and work colleague Cole. With you around, it’s easy for us to see miracles happening every day too. Possess a strong work ethic in all aspects of their lives We here at Miami Country Day School were very impressed by your strong work ethic this summer and wish you the best of luck in New York as you embark on the next segment of your professional journey.
