about us Miami-Dade County’s Board of County Commissioners and Mayor are committed to making our community’s arts and cultural activities available to all citizens. This edition of the Golden Ticket Arts Guide lists hundreds of free offerings to great cultural activities throughout our community. Miami-Dade County is dedicated to bringing senior residents, ages 62 and over, exciting arts events at no charge, every day from now until the end of December 31, 2011. Miami-Dade County has one of the most effective and innovative Departments of Cultural Affairs in the nation. The Department and the Cultural Affairs Council, its 15-member volunteer advisory board, develop cultural excellence, diversity and participation throughout Miami-Dade County by strategically creating and promoting opportunities for artists and cultural organizations, and our residents and visitors who are their audiences. Through staff, board and programmatic resources, the Department and the Council promote, coordinate and support Miami-Dade County’s more than 1,100 not-for-profit cultural organizations as well as thousands of resident artists through grants, technical assistance, public information and interactive community planning. The Department directs the Art in Public Places program and its board, the Art in Public Places Trust, commisioning, curating, maintaining and promoting the county's art collection. The Department receives funding through the Miami-Dade County Mayor and Board of County Commissioners, the National Endowment for the Arts, the State of Florida through the Florida Department of State, Division of Cultural Affairs and the Florida Arts Council, The Children’s Trust, and the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation. Other support and services are provided by TicketWeb for the Culture Shock Miami program, the Greater Miami Convention and Visitors Bureau, the South Florida Cultural Consortium and the Tourist Development Council. 8/

south miami-dade cultural arts center Miami-Dade County’s cultural landscape continues to grow and develop rapidly. The new South Miami-Dade Cultural Arts Center is a world-class, multi-disciplinary performing arts center in the heart of the Town of Cutler Bay. Designed by worldrenowned Arquitectonica International, Inc., the Center is not only a cultural campus, but also an architectural attraction and destination that can be appreciated for its innovative style and presence. Less than 25 miles from Downtown Miami, the South MiamiDade Cultural Arts Center is the only major theater facility in the South Miami-Dade area and features two buildings housing a 966-seat state-of-the-art theater, a multipurpose Black Box theater, lab theater, classrooms and rehearsal spaces. The buildings are joined by an outdoor promenade and concert lawn. The spacious main lobby features an innovative public art installation by Miami artist Robert Chambers which illuminates the entire inner lobby wall with changing designs by computer controlled LED lighting. H.O.T. – Half-Off Tickets For Seniors If you’re 65 or over, you can get Half-Off Tickets (H.O.T) to same-day performances for select “Adrienne Arsht Center Presents” shows. To participate, you must present a current photo ID at the Adrienne Arsht Center’s Box Office Window (1300 Biscayne Blvd., Downtown Miami) to purchase tickets on the same day of the performance. The H.O.T. offer is available for select “Adrienne Arsht Center Presents” performances only and is subject to availability of seats at time of purchase. Limit one H.O.T. offer per person.
