Grants Programs and Technical Assistance Workshops The Department directly serves artists and cultural organizations through its competitive grants programs. Each of these programs is designed to address specific areas of cultural development ranging from the renovation of neighborhood cultural facilities to the support of exemplary programs by the community’s largest non-profit cultural organizations. Each of the Department’s grants programs involves a public review process with a peer panel evaluating grant requests. The panels’ grant recommendations are subsequently reviewed and approved by the Miami-Dade Cultural Affairs Council, the Miami-Dade County Board of County Commissioners and the Mayor of Miami-Dade County. All potential applicants are required to meet with a grants program administrator prior to submission of an application. All applicants must attend a workshop to become familiar with the Culture Grants Online – Miami system. Some grant programs require potential applicants to attend the program-specific workshops. Department of Cultural Affairs grant guidelines are available on our website www.miamidadearts.org.

2011-12 Workshops The Department of Cultural Affairs’ services also include technical assistance workshops on a wide array of topics including: grantswriting for private, local, state and federal resources; arts accessibility; computer technology; marketing; and non-profit organization management. The Department offers a variety of grant-specific workshops, including the CGO Basics workshop, which introduces organizations to the Culture Grants Online – Miami system and first-time applicants are required to attend. The new CGO Enhanced workshop provides applicants who are familiar with the CGO system with updates and techniques to maximize their use. In addition, grant administrators hold consultations with grantees to ensure the specifics of each grant program are adequately addressed. Space is limited for all of the workshop sessions. You must make a reservation by calling (305) 375-4634 or registering online. Click here to register for one of the workshops. All meetings, workshops and panel review meetings will be held at the Department’s offices, unless otherwise noted.

Miami-Dade County Art in Public Places is a program of the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs and is responsible for the commission and purchase of artworks by contemporary artists in all media. One of the first public art programs in the country, Miami-Dade Art in Public Places was established in 1973 with the passage of an ordinance allocating 1.5% of construction cost of new county buildings for the purchase or commission of artworks, educational programs and collection maintenance. The Art Trust Fund is administered by a County Commission-appointed citizens’ board, the Art in Public Places Trust, in consultation with its Professional Advisory Committee.
