OT CANCELLED! Hosting the 2020 Excellence in Construction ( EIC ) Awards took on a sense of urgency as committee members were determined to keep the 44th annual event alive. Recognizing member accomplishments and preserving traditions are important. I am incredibly grateful for the effort and creativity of ABC members and staff who serve on the 2020 Excellence in Construction Awards Committee. From virtual judging to social distancing at the Getty Drive-In movie theatre – the committee has done an incredible job! My sincere thanks to the committee for their outstanding effort in what promises to be an unforgettable event. I am humbled by the service of our 60+ volunteers who work year-round to make the Excellence in Construction Awards happen. The Excellence in Construction Awards recognizes and celebrates outstanding projects built by ABC-Western Michigan Chapter (ABC/WMC) members. By focusing on the highest quality and innovation in merit shop construction, ABC/WMC calls attention to those outstanding projects and continues to raise standards throughout the construction industry. The EIC Awards also raise public awareness of the exceptional work our members perform as we directly impact the structure, design, and look of our communities where we live, work, and play. We have always understood that construction workers are essential. Special recognition will be given to the men and women behind these outstanding projects. The doers, problem solvers, and collaborators who brought these projects to life. Covid-19 has highlighted the fact that the industry is filled with men and women who step up and help each other and their communities in time of need. We salute the craft professionals who get up every day and make it happen - safely. In addition to the 90+ outstanding project entries this year, ABC Western Michigan will present two Safety Awards of Excellence to one trade contractor and one general contractor. The Safety Award of Excellence is sought after year over year and is difficult to win. ABC/WMC includes member surveys of safety performance, job site visits, peer review, and interviews with entrant’s senior leadership teams. Winners in these two categories will be announced live at the Excellence in Construction Awards. Safety is one of the highest priorities of ABC/WMC member companies and we’re delighted to recognize the accomplishments of member companies who go above and beyond to keep their teams safe. Wave to your friends and honk your horn! The 2020 Excellence in Construction Awards are coming to the Getty Drive-In Theatre in Muskegon, and we hope you will help us celebrate the people, projects and safety performance that make West Michigan commercial construction the best of the best!

to the 2020 ABC award nominees
Located in the heart of the West Side, Stockbridge Apartments offers a mix of 64 market-rate and affordable housing units, in addition to 11,000 SF of ground-floor commercial space. Exterior masonry was performed on the ground floor through the fourth floor, with siding installed on the fifth. Faced with a tax credit deadline, Rockford completed the 71,522 SF new build within a 13-month accelerated schedule. To ensure units were occupied by the end of the year, project teams endured low temperatures and winter conditions to complete concrete, masonry, and exterior work.
