andrea tracogna Dean, MIB Trieste School of ManagementTo drive growth in an increasingly fast-changing and interconnected world, leaders must leverage innovation, speaking the language of both management and technology. With this in mind, we designed EMBAIN as a part-time MBA program focused on providing the skills and agile mindset needed to integrate technology and management practices for business transformation.
Executive MBA in Business Innovation
More than an MBA: touch and practice the transformation
MIB is one of the only four Italian business schools offering MBA programs that are internationally accredited by AMBA - Association of MBAs. We have been offering MBA programs since 1988 and, building on this solid experience, we have developed Executive MBA in Business Innovation to help managers and entrepreneurs foster business innovation from idea to market.
EMBAIN takes a hands-on approach that integrates the general management skills of the MBA with technology and innovation skills. This integration is reinforced by the creation of real new businesses that participants must develop during the MBA program and that is evaluated at the end of the program by a committee of faculty and real potential investors.
The power of the partnership
An ambitious program like EMBAIN is the joint result of a partnership that combines the rigor of a business school (MIB), and the pragmatism of a venture capital advisor (Venture Factory) focused on developing high-tech startups. Thanks to this partnership, the faculty includes academic scholars and leading industry experts who bring their extensive practical knowledge to the courses. In addition, EMBAIN brings its students to three centers of excellence to experience innovation directly at the source: McKinsey Digital Competence Center Venice to experience Industry 4.0, Galileo Visionary District Padua to practice Design Thinking, and Scuola Superiore S.Anna and the University of Pisa at the frontier of Robotics, AI and Open Innovation.
"We have developed Executive MBA in Business Innovation with the mission to help managers of companies in transition and innovative entrepreneurs design, lead and develop the business of tomorrow. It is an experiential learning journey designed to fill the demand for a new breed of business leaders with both, the digital acumen and the managerial hard and soft skills required to unlock the transformation.”

Program Structure
The program is based on two learning streams. The "General Management Core," the solid foundation of an MBA program, and the "Business Innovation Edge," which directly exposes students to entrepreneurial skills and cuttingedge technologies in some of Italy's most prestigious innovation centers.
THE GENERAL MANAGEMENT CORE (BLENDED LEARNING FORMAT)
EMBAIN is designed on the solid Executive MBA pedagogic model: 2 years, 2 days sessions monthly, and three residential weeks. Its backbone is the 40 credits of the “General Management Core” taught by MIB core Faculty.
Leadership and Dynamic Capabilities Course
This is the glue of the “General Management Core”. Being a manager today means leveraging teams the intelligence, visions, and motivations and leading them by sharing a vision and recognizing the
value of each member. Inclusion, diversity, and creativity are all characteristics that a leader aiming for innovation must be able to build.
THE BUSINESS INNOVATION EDGE (IN CLASS)
The Business Innovation edge is worth 20 credits. This fundamental component of EMBAIN program is based on a rigorous but at the same time pragmatic approach that puts the participants in direct touch with the partner institutions, their experience in their specific fields, and their ability to deliver practical results in terms of business creation out of fresh ideas.
Entrepreneurial Management Course
It is the pillar of the “Innovation Edge” and a central element of the EMBAIN program. It is coordinated by Venture Factory and designed as a longitudinal personal growth process that starts the first week and ends on the last day of your learning experience, with the project discussion in front of the
final graduation commission, composed of a mix of professors and real investors.
In this course, the whole EMBAIN experience is focused on three final learning outcomes:
— Defining and Developing a new Business Model
— Resourcing a new Business Model
— Operating a new Business Model.
During the Entrepreneurial management course, the participant will spend one residential week between Galileo Visionary District and the LEFMcKinsey Digital Capability Centre Venice.
Designing and planning your business
A key element is developing an impact project consisting of a real business startup by teams aiming to create brand new ventures or new business lines within existing enterprises.

Participants' profile
The hybrid nature of the EMBAIN program has been designed to accommodate not only the sometimes hectic working schedules of busy managers and professionals but also to encourage participation from cities far away from Milan, given the diminished necessity to be present in person. The program's pedagogic framework deeply stimulates business model innovation by mixing 66% of managers and entrepreneurs of established companies that aim to evolve their businesses, with deep tech start-
uppers that want to develop a new business from a fresh idea. By means of connecting managers with entrepreneurs/intrapreneurs and providing courses and experiences tailored to new businesses ideas development, EMBAIN aims at creating the best safe space for its participants to build up experiences and competencies they will forever value during their careers. The first batch of EMBAIN students had been characterized by a high percentage of hard sciences and engineering backgrounds.
The start-uppers were mostly former university researchers who developed a promising patent during their studies, in which their universities or seed funding institutions saw market potential. Mixing them with experienced managers, EMBAIN1 gave these talented innovators the managerial tools to evaluate and discuss opportunities with venture capital funds and potential clients that brought some of them to achieve an extremely successful round of investment or a profitable exit by selling their startup.

Blockchain authenticates your MBA
What would you do if you were asked one day to prove the authenticity of your diploma?
MIB Trieste School of Management has adopted a tool to guarantee the originality and truthfulness of the Executive MBA in Business Innovation diploma to its Alumni. In addition to the traditional paper format, all EMBAIN diplomas are also registered in Blockchain: an enormous shared and immutable database, protected by cryptographic technology.
What is Blockchain?
Blockchain is a centralized database, a chain of blocks that allows you to archive and move data by distributing them among thousands of nodes. The participants of the chain can therefore control the pathway, but they cannot exercise a hierarchic control over the entire network,
that is guaranteed in turn by its own complex cryptographic systems. Blockchains are either public or private, but in the latter case, in the face of different degrees of authorization and participation, some might simply speak of a decentralized database. Blockchain also represents a technology linked to the cryptocurrency bitcoin and is its master book.
