Site Analysis
Project Urban Design in Weimar.
Date & Location
Summer 2012, Weimar, Germany.
Concept Connecting the social nodes of the city.
Project Description
The project was conducted in a team work for the first part which is the site analysis and the urban design, while the second part which is the design of the Weimar Public Library is individual work. The site is located in an area that is not very popular for the people because of its historical meaning (Hitler’s complex). Thus over the years this location has become a dead zone in the heart of the city. Therefore, the urban design project aims to connect the different social nodes of the city through this dead zone, transforming it to a large stepped urban park that houses functions within to keep it socially sustainable and attractive to different users.
The Model above is showing the site with its buildings and spaces that are out of proportions compared to the rest of the city. It is also a conceptual representation of the conclusion of the site analysis. 41
