Project Zizinia Competition (1st place prize)

Date & Location

Downtown Cairo - Egypt, 2014. - 6th of October bridge and Abd El Moneim Reyad.

Scope

Studying the behavioural patterns of the users and the passers by of the area, we came up with several needs and possible activities. Therefore, our intervention included a hanging pedestrian bridge on the side of the existing bridge using an extended structure from it, allowing the pedestrians to have a safe area for walking and enjoying the Nile vista. We complemented it with several activities on the Nile shore, making it wider and more user friendly while adjusting the traffic in that area as well. Moreover, we studied the project from a financial point of view, and we decided to take the CSR approach, while creating small vendor points to make it self sustainable.

Site Analysis

Project Urban Design in Weimar.

Date & Location

Summer 2012, Weimar, Germany.

Concept Connecting the social nodes of the city.

Project Description

The project was conducted in a team work for the first part which is the site analysis and the urban design, while the second part which is the design of the Weimar Public Library is individual work. The site is located in an area that is not very popular for the people because of its historical meaning (Hitler’s complex). Thus over the years this location has become a dead zone in the heart of the city. Therefore, the urban design project aims to connect the different social nodes of the city through this dead zone, transforming it to a large stepped urban park that houses functions within to keep it socially sustainable and attractive to different users.

The Model above is showing the site with its buildings and spaces that are out of proportions compared to the rest of the city. It is also a conceptual representation of the conclusion of the site analysis. 41
