Equestrian Industry Statistics & Information

Recently, the American Horse Council Federation commissioned a study entitled “The Economic Impact of the Horse Industry on the United States” highlighting financial information and trends that are shaping the equestrian industry. According to the study, the horse industry contributes almost $40 billion to the US’s Gross Domestic Product. That number is amplified north of the $100 billion mark when indirect spending is taken into consideration. Horse Industry Snapshot Activities within the horse industry are vast and the cash flow is distributed amongst the different elements quite evenly: $32 billion – recreation segment $29 billion – showing segment $26 billion – racing segment $15 billion – other industry segments Horse Owner Demographics The delight of horse ownership touches all walks of life. While misconceptions associate horse ownership as an activity predominantly enjoyed by the wealthy, the socioeconomic deck is actually quite shuffled. Of the nearly 2 million horse owners in the US, only 28% earn annual incomes exceeding $100,000 while 35% have an annual household income below $50,000. Almost half of horse owners are from the middle class, earning incomes between $25,000 - $75,000. Horse owners live in small towns and large cities and the numbers vary state-by-state. The equestrian industry creates many opportunities within itself and is estimated to employ 1.4 million full-time jobs across the US.

The Impact Of Breeding Over 425,000 horses are involved in the breeding process every year. This segment within the horse industry alone creates and economic impact of $2.2 billion and stimulates the creation of almost 40,000 full-time equivalent jobs. Breeding is also a vital element in the showing segment. The 700,000+ horses involved produce a direct economic impact of $2.3 billion and create 34,000 full-time equivalent jobs. Facts – Straight from the Horse’s Mouth Enjoy some facts about our four-legged friends below: There are horses in every US state. California, Texas, and Florida lead the pack in both horse ownership and economic impact Texas leads the nation with the most horses with 978,822 California comes in second with 698,345 California has significantly more racetracks than the Lone Star state which puts California in the lead when considering horse-related job creation and economic impact.

LAKE LIFE IS LIFE Sunrise Lake is the perfect place from Sunrise to Sunset and all the hours in between. It is a place where Mother Nature coexists with People. This is not a lake that is crammed with speeding boats and crowds of people making it the perfect environment for the residence to enjoy the natural beauty while also having the ability to enjoy all that lake life brings. Enjoy fishing, swimming, casual boating, paddle boarding, kayaking, as well as the excitement of being on a jet ski or water skiing. There are a few islands on the lake and residents occasionally gather at one sandbar with their boats to catch up with each other’s stories. Because this property is surrounded by acres of forest it would not be unusual to see all the animals who make home in the woods. Fox, deer and even an occasional moose may appear. Turkeys are plentiful. Here you will see Eagles dive into the water for a fresh meal. On the lake are loon nesting areas. You are also in the center of the Lakes Region of New Hampshire Lake Winnipesaukee, a 44,000 acre lake just 25 minutes away. Surrounded by mountains, miles of hiking trails including Mt Major where you can see all of the region from an easy hike. Under 40 minutes away is Gunstock, one of 19 NH ski resorts featuring an 8000’ zip line in summer and tubing and night skiing in winter. With 86% trees, over 1300 lakes, and over 18,000 miles of rivers New Hampshire is a healthy choice to live the good life. It all begins at 55-60 Fox Road in Middleton, NH.

New Hampshire State of Mine

Bringing Real Life Experience to Real Estate Experience in NH

A former New Yorker’s View. In a ZOOM World The Price to Pay for the Good Life on a Lake in New Hampshire is Far Gooder. Many would agree that the last few years might be a years to forget. However some of the most amazing things happened. The world was forced to reevaluate how and where to live and work. So many people rushed to Home Depot and Lowes to improve their surroundings even with the cost of wood and supplies skyrocketing. Everyone found that everything can be delivered. For many the best that could be found was further East and a bit North to New Hampshire. Our towns saw a surge of new families making NH a new home. Real estate in New Hampshire has defied any imagination. The now daily use of ZOOM for life and business has made it possible to live and work anywhere. Why not do it surrounded by 86% trees, 1300 lakes and The White Mountains. New Hampster Having lived in NYC, Connecticut and Boston, I had a different vision of New Hampshire People I knew called it New Hampster or Cow Hampshire. Then I discovered the real wealth of New Hampshire. Rich in History. Rich in Natural Beauty and some of the most beautiful waterfront estates for about 20% of what would be fetched in the Hamptons in NY or the North Shore of Boston and the Connecticut seacoast--and without the traffic. Within the Rich Beauty of New Hampshire it turns out to be the Wealthiest State in the country per capita. I lived in NYC when apartment buildings were being “warehoused” to be converted into condos. A hall close sold for $10,000 35 years ago. Life was expensive, working to pay the bills vs working to live a life. In New Hampshire, there are more miles of snowmobile trails than roads here. Over 1100 mile of ATV/UTV trails. 48 mountain peaks over 4,000 ft. Over 1300 lakes and over 19,000 miles of rivers. Who wouldn’t want to be here.

Property Shark.com shows homes in the first quarter of 2022 in Manhattan had a median sold price of $1,200,000 and a price per square foot of $1,412. There were only 4,332 transactions for in Manhattan. That is a high price for a small space and no land. Twenty eight years ago my family thought I was nuts to buy a 700sf 1 bedroom 1 bath “Co-op” for $110,000 in Gramercy Park. Recently the same size unit sold for $1,269,000 no garage, no land, no waterfront.

than good. This is a place for the good life on water and on horseback For more info visit www.LakeAndBarn.com Contact Michael Travis, REALTOR ® Berkshire Hathaway HomeServicesVerani Realty 603-569-6060 or Direct at 603-303-2599

The Big Apples vs Little State of NH Now lets compare what you get in New Hampshire vs Manhattan. At 1 Irving Place a 3BR 1800sf unit you can fetch for $3,950,000. For a $1,000,000 LESS, you can buy a lot of house in New Hampshire and be on lake and room for cars, toys and horses. One such waterfront home which also has an equine property is 55-60 Fox Road in Middleton, NH. Included are 17 acres of lush manicured grounds, a waterfront with 233 ft of shoreline, magnificent 3+ bedroom 3 bath Adirondack main house with a great room with a dramatic 25 foot high ceiling with finished pine trusses and decorative truss plates. plus a 3 floor, 2 stall horse barn with a finished space on the second floor with kitchen, bath and room with a closet, Even a windowed cupola to view your entire estate. It is a place where waterfront meets horse property. You are within 90 minutes from Boston Logan, Manchester-Boston Regional Airport, and Portland International Jetport. Perhaps fly your private plane or NetJet to Laconia minutes away. You don’t have to leave here since you are a ZOOM meeting away from your life. Or maybe a place to ZOOM up to for the weekends with all your friends and business clients. There are so many surprises about New Hampshire. It is by no surprise it is a mecca of great places to call home without breaking the bank. Gooder
