MICHELA BURZIO PRODUCT DESIGNER

I am a young designer, very curious in sectors of furniture, product, history and design. I am also very careful and keen on respecting the environment. I’m taking forward the target of sustainability. My strengths are: the brainstorming phase or focus group, definition of the solving problem, case studies research, creation of exploration new scenarios, the needs analysis of the cheerful environment / requirements / performances that the project must have in order to be able to satisfy potential consumers and the organization of the project, such as team gruop work. I support my project teams with passion because I believe it is important to increase the specific features of each component in order to obtain an excellent final result.

Sono una giovane progettista, molto versatile e curiosa nei settori dell’arredamento, del prodotto, della storia e tradizione del design italiano e straniero. Sono molto attenta al rispetto per l’ambiente, per questo motivo i progetti da me realizzati perseguono l’obiettivo della sostenibilità. I miei punti di forza sono: la fase di brainstorming o focus group, la definizione del problema, la ricerca di casi studio, la creazione di scenari di esplorazione, l’analisi delle esigenze/requisiti/prestazioni che il progetto deve avere per poter soddisfare i potenziali consumatori e l’organizzazione del progetto, anche per un gruppo di lavoro. Sostengo e supporto con passione i team di progetto con i quali collaboro perchè credo sia importante valorizzare le specificità di ogni componente al fine di ottenere un eccellente risultato finale.

RUBBEREVIVE Recovery project of rubber sheets for letterpress printing, at the end of its life. #recycle #lamp #creativereuse

Rubberevive is a project for the recovery of rubber, as a special refusal, from national typographies. Each product, made from this material, is unique and unrepeatable for the appearance created by its use. At a first phase of the natural and synthetic rubber research, the production chain analysis was done. During the eight months of work, the possible forms and uses of the material have been extensively tested in order to define different product families.

Rubberevive è un progetto per il recupero del caucciù dismesso, in qualità di rifiuto speciale, dalle tipografie nazionali. Ogni prodotto, realizzato a partire da questo materiale, è unico ed irripetibile, in quanto il suo aspetto è condizionato dal grado di usura del foglio utilizzato. Ad una prima fase di ricerca sulla gomma naturale e sintetica, è seguita l’analisi della filiera della tela gommata. Durante gli otto mesi di lavoro si sono sperimentate le possibili forme e i presunti impieghi del materiale dopo i quali si è giunti alla definizione di alcune famiglie di prodotti.

The products are easily assembled and removable in an intuitive way thanks to buttons that facilitate the closing action. Other products, on the other hand, are designed to be mounted by the user, but ultimately in the kit. These proposals play on manual consumer intuition, it needs no specific manipulating knowledge due to the constraints of the object that are sufficient for assembly and use. I prodotti realizzati sono facilmente montabili e smontabili in modo intuitivo, grazie a dei bottoni che facilitano l’azione di chiusura. Altri articoli, invece, sono pensati per essere montati in modo definitivo all’interno di kit dall’utente. Tali proposte giocano sull’intuizione manuale dei consumatori, ai quali non è richiesta una conoscenza specifica per manipolare l’oggetto, in quanto i vincoli della forma e delle pieghe indicano in modo sufficientemente chiaro le operazioni utili per il montaggio e l’utilizzo.

/ROSE Rose is a double function container with soft and polymorphic profile that recalls a nature rose form. In the closed configuration, pockets are created, this is designed to contain organic material, as plants or flowers. Thanks to some buttons, it is possible changing the basic shape creating a more capacious multi-purpose container. Rose is intended for a private home or an office area. Rose è un contenitore con doppia funzione che richiama le forme della natura ed ha un profilo morbido e polimorfo. Nella conformazione chiusa si creano delle tasche, che possono contenere materiale organico, come piante o fiori. Grazie ad alcuni bottoni, è possibile cambiare forma e realizzare un contenitore polivalente più capiente. Rose è destinato ad un ambiente domestico privato oppure ad una zona ufficio.

/neb Neb is a simple container, with a shape suited to office environment inside or outside home. Closed in the two extremities reminds the profile of a beak, hence the name Neb. Available in three sizes, it can be stored in one in the other taking advantage of the space. The reduced dimensions allow the product to be washed comfortably, as the composition of the material can accommodate all kinds Neb è un contenitore dalle linee e dalla lavorativo e/o domestico. Chiuso alle due estremità, richiama il profilo di un becco, da qui il nome Neb. E’ disponibile in tre dimensioni; le tre misure possono essere riposte una dentro l’altra per sfruttare al meglio lo spazio. Le ridotte dimensioni finali permettono al prodotto di essere lavato comodamente in casa, in quanto la composizione del materiale può accogliere sostanze di ogni genere.

/SEAMLINES Seamlines is a lamps family that exploits the electric cable in order to close the lampshades shape. Three suspension lamps, Conic, Teepee and Arrow, are made from various basic shapes such as square or ellipse, closed to different cones, creating three types of light beams based on changing as needed. The cable is made of fabric and matches the different sheet colors as the first one in its origins. Seamlines Ă¨ una famiglia di lampade che sfruttano il cavo elettrico per chiudere le forme dei paralumi. Sono tre diverse lampade a sospensione, Conic, Teepee e Arrow, realizzate a partire da sagome diverse, quadrate o ellittiche, che si uniscono a formare dei coni con diverso raggio di apertura, per creare dei fasci di luce diversi, a seconda delle necessitĂ . Il cavo Ă¨ in tessuto e si abbina ai diversi colori del foglio di partenza.

/BERET Beret is a suspension lamp in exaggerated shapes. It has three different configurations made from a single form - a circle. The open configuration defines a sort of hat, allowing the sheet to freely occupy the space asymmetrically. If the sheet is semi wrapped, with the special button, it creates a particular shade directing the light sideways. Wrapping the sheet tightly, it creates a long cylinder narrowbeam. Beret Ă¨ una lampada a sospensione dalle ampie forme. Presenta tre diverse conformazioni a partire da una sagoma unica, un cerchio. La sagoma appesa aperta definisce una sorta di cappello, permettendo al foglio la libertĂ di occupare lo spazio in modo asimmetrico. Se si avvolge il foglio, chiudendo lâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;apposito bottone, si crea un paralume inusuale che indirizza la luce lateralmente. Se si chiude maggiormente il cono si crea un lungo cilindro a fascio stretto.

overlock Modular sofa for the Unico series, a line of home furnishings. #sofa #forniture #seams

Realization of a sofa of the Unico line, home furnishings with the signature F: L Architetti, a prestigious architecture firm in Turin. This series is distinguished by the chosen materials (such as the type of fabrics and backs, as coordinated accessories), the color and shade folder, for the search of maximum comfort and maximum adaptability to an exclusive environments. There was a search for the most suitable seam, a very important detail for the type of sofa in particular. Divano della linea Unico, arredi domestici dalla firma F:L Architetti. Questa serie si distingue per i materiali prescelti (quali la tipologia di tessuti e schienali, gli accessori coordinati), per la cartella dei colori e delle tonalità, per la ricerca del massimo confort e l’adattabilità ad ambienti esclusivi. Vi è stata una ricerca del tipo di cucitura più adatta, particolare molto importante per la tipologia di divano in oggetto.

light & shade Design of products: the protagonist is the interaction between light and matter. #lamp #brighteffects # light&matter

“Light (and) Shade” was created as a light shielding, i nspired by the kirigami techniques, interchangeable to different gradient of opacity, with the purpose of innovating light sources already present in the domestic environment. The material that has been chosen, polypropylene, emphasizes the potential of the light due to the characteristics of transparency and opacity. Through the assembly it is possible to stimulate the user’s creativity in order to make a modular system. The selection between Tairu, Dansa, Himawari e Beru prepared as “DIY kit”, available in five different colors and gradient of opacity fitted to different contexts. Japanese and kirigami culture are transposed in different shapes and patterns for each model, to create paticular lighting effects.

“Light (and) Shade” nasce come sistema di schermatura della luce ispirata alle tecniche del kirigami, intercambiabile a diversi gradi di opacità, con lo scopo di rinnovare sorgenti luminose già presenti nell’ambiente domestico. Il materiale scelto, il polipropilene, enfatizza le potenzialità della luce grazie alle caratteristiche di trasparenza e opacità, allo stesso tempo, è possibile renderlo componibile e modulare, stimolando la creatività dell’utente tramite il montaggio. E’ possibile scegliere fra i modelli Tairu, Dansa e Himawari predisposti in kit “DIY”, disponibili in varianti cromatiche e gradi di opacità affini a diversi contesti. La cultura giapponese e dei kirigami viene trasposta nelle forme e nei tagli, diversi in ogni modello, i quali donano effetti luminosi ricercati.

/DANSA This suspension lamp takes inspiration from tulle skirts of the dancers. It is composed of four different layers of polypropylene of increasing opacity, which create an evocative effect of light diffusion in the surrounding environment; the last level is completely opaque. Questa lampada a sospensione prende ispirazione dalle gonne in tulle delle ballerine. É composta da quattro diversi strati di polipropilene di opacità crescente, che creano un suggestivo effetto di diffusione della luce nell’ambiente circostante; l’ultimo livello è completamente opaco.

/BERU Beru takes inspiration from the shape of a bell with the elongated ends and Japanese lanterns in rice paper used for the holidays. Its verticalism is broken by horizontal carvings, which create a striking optical effect near its corners. Beru prende ispirazione dalla forma di una campana con le estremità allungate e dalle lanterne giapponesei in carta di riso usate per l e festività. Il suo verticalismo viene spezzato dagli intagli orizzontali, che creano un suggestivo effetto ottico in prossimità dei suoi angoli.

/Himawari Himawari welcomes the light bulb inside it, fencing excess light rays, and returns them to the environment in the form of bright petals thanks to the carvings in the rear part. This model takes inspiration from flower buds and the shape of sunflower petals (hence the name in Japanese). Himawari accoglie la lampadina al suo interno, scherma i raggi luminosi in eccesso, e li restituisce all’ambiente sotto forma di petali luminosi grazie agli intagli nella parte posteriore. Questo modello prende ispirazione dai boccioli dei fiori e dalla forma dei petali di girasole (da cui deriva il nome in giapponese).

/tairu Skirt, umbrella, tile, you may decide what it looks like. Its shape takes inspiration from the classic lampshades cloth used until the middle of the last century.The exaggerated silhouette brings with it a fresh and lively air, recalled also by the light effects projected on the ceiling. Gonna, ombrello, tegola, decidi tu a cosa assomiglia di piĂš. La sua forma prende ispirazione dai classici paralumi in stoffa utilizzati fino alla prima metĂ del secolo scorso.La silhouette esagerata porta con se unâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;aria fresca e vivace, richiamata anche dagli effetti luminosi proiettati sul soffitto.

STICK Design of a vehicle with low environmental impact as a means of city transport #lmv #bamboo #vehicle

Stick is a Last Mile Vehicle -LMV-, it is an electric and folding vehicle. The shapes are inspired by the Richard Sapper’ bicycle realized in 1988, the first designer that tried to solve the problem of the traffic in the city.

Stick è un Last Mile Vehicle elettrico e pieghevole. Le forme sono ispirate alla bicicletta pieghevole di Richard Sapper Del 1988, che tentò per primo di risolvere il problema del traffico in città.

Stick is an intraveicular means of transport, used together with other transport systems: cars, buses, trains. Easy to open, when it was closed it occupies a minimum space. The structure allows the closure in a few simple movements: first the adjustable dimensions of the saddle and handlebar are lowered, eventually, thanks to a handle, the mechanism is rotated and compacted. Stick is intended for all those who want to help the planet by cutting emissions, to move easily in city traffic.

Stick si pone come mezzo intraveicolare, usato insieme ad altri sistemi di trasporto: auto, pullman, treno. Facile da aprire, una volta chiuso occupa uno spazio minimo. La struttura permette la chiusura in pochi e semplici movimenti: prima si abbattono le dimensioni regolabili del sellino e manubrio, poi, grazie ad una maniglia, si fa ruotare il meccanismo compattandolo. Stick è destinato a tutti coloro intendono aiutare il pianeta abbattendo le emissioni, per muoversi agilmente nel traffico cittadino.

24HOURS OF SPORT Design of a sports bag through the creative re-use of TNT advertising banners. #bag #re-use #recycle

24 Hours of Sport is a sports work bag. Bag with a wrapping function to protect, to camouflage and to transform the classic office briefcase into comfortable handy bag to commute. The concept is to make what is classic more sporty. The purpose of this project is to enhance the manual work and the different experiences of disabled people in sports. The project wants to connect two Turin realities: Turin - European capital of sport (2015), which requires the re-use of large-sized advertising banners around town, and InGenio, a shop that was created as a place to support the craft and artistic activities carried out by people with intellectual disabilities. This project won the ADI Index award and was published in the Social Design section. The project was developed during the Design course and entered production process.

24 ore di sport è una borsa da lavoro sportiva con funzione di avvolgente, proteggere e trasformare la classica valigetta da ufficio in una comoda borsa per il trasporto. Il concept prevede di rendere più sportivo ciò che è classico. Lo scopo del progetto è quello di valorizzare e sottolineare il lavoro manuale. Il progetto cerca di mettere in relazione due realtà torinesi: Torino capitale europea dello sport (2015), che richiede il riutilizzo di striscioni pubblicitari di grandi dimensioni, e InGenio, una bottega nata come luogo per sostenere l’artigianato e le attività artistiche svolte da persone con disabilità intellettuali. Questo progetto ha vinto il premio ADI Index e pubblicato nella sezione di Design per il Sociale nel mese di Maggio 2016. Il progetto è stato sviluppato durante il corso di Design di Scenario (2016) ed è entrato in produzione.

MEETING ROOM Renovation project of a meeting room in the Rai building of Milan. #render #renovation #rai

Design of a new RAI meeting room in the Milan offices. The focus is the research for maximum comfort in a very limited space. The background walls are covered with sound-absorbing panels, which embed the monitors, the lettering and the lighting system inside them. Design and 3D modeling of a conference call table, with the characteristics required by the customer: a drop at the center of the table to hide the electrical sockets, large size and oval shape. Progettazione di una nuova sala riunioni RAI negli uffici di Milano. Il focus Ă¨ la ricerca del massimo comfort in uno spazio molto limitato, destinato al personale interno. Progettazione e modellazione 3d di un tavolo per conference call, con le caratteristiche richieste dal cliente: una ribaltina a centro tavolo per nascondere le prese elettriche, grandi dimensioni e forma ovale. Le pareti di sfondo sono rivestite di pannelli fonoassorbenti, che incassano i monitor, le scritte in rilievo e integrano al loro interno il sistema illuminazione.

simple living Renovation project of an apartment in the center of Turin. #render #renovtion #living

This project is about the renovation and trasformation of a former convent into an apartament. The building is located in Via delle Orfane 20 in Turin and has a surface of 50sqm. All the rooms will benefit from natural light and some of the original features of the building, such as the herringbone parquet and the vaulted celling. These have been reserved, in order to bring a touch of “history” into the users’ everyday life. Il progetto riguarda la ristrutturazione e la trasformazione di un ex convento in un appartamento. L’edificio si trova in Via delle Orfane 20 a Torino e ha una superficie di 50mq, così come il parquet a spina di pesce e il soffitto a volta, sono stati riservati, per portare un tocco di “storia” nella vita quotidiana degli utenti.

The online rental house market is booming; more and more people, like me, decides to rent an unused property to tourists.

Il mercato delle case in affitto online è in forte espansione; sempre più spesso è una scelta fatta da chi, come me, dispone di un immobile libero.

I took care the renovation of an apartment in the center of Turin, then I using the Airbnb rental platform. The budget that I invested in this project was limited, but I could make lamps, I introduce self-produced products into the environment and above I have fun in the graphic sector to create posters that I have made the house more welcome.

Mi sono occupata della ristrutturazione di un appartamento in centro a Torino, affidandomi poi alla piattaforma Airbnb per l’affitto. Il budget che ho investito su questo immobile è stato limitato, ma ho potuto realizzare delle lampade, introdurre nell’ambiente dei prodotti auto-prodotti e soprattutto sbizzarrirmi nel settore grafico per realizzare dei poster che hanno reso più accogliente l’ambiente.

Painting is a hazard in today’s society, but there are still people interested in owning a painting and exhibiting it in their homes. I am very connected to pop art and I use strong colors and defined figures in my works. This approaching painting brings me very close to visual communication, which today is in the hands of digital advertising, photography and cinema. La pittura è un’azzardo nella società odierna ma vi sono ancora persone interessate a possedere un quadro, realizzato su commissione, ed esporlo nelle loro abitazioni. Sono molto legata all’arte pop e per questo utilizzo colori forti e figuere ben definite nei miei lavori. Questo modo di affrontare la pittura mi avvicina molto alla comunicazione visiva, oggi nelle mani della pubblicità digitale, della fotografia e del cinema.
