LETTER FROM THE GOVERNOR esmeralda hernández: about me I am a fifth-year student at Western Washington University pursuing two bachelor degrees in Spanish and Mathematics. After I accomplish this goal, I will be applying for the Master’s in Teaching program for Secondary Education. My hope is to one day go back home and work at the local high schools, to not only teach, but also want to expand, implement, or develop programs for migrant, ELL, and/or undocumented students. As of now, in addition to being your District Governor, I work for Secondary Education and Extended Education departments at Western. I am also a mentor for Western students whom are interested in Education. In my free time, I enjoy hanging out with my family and friends. If I am not with them or Circle K, I love watching novelas, cartoons, and movies. I also absolutely love Pokémon!

Hello my fellow CKIer, I am both honored and humbled to assume my role as District Governor for the Pacific Northwest District of Circle K International. As your District Governor, I am committed to leading our board and district as a collective towards achievements in service, leadership, and fellowship! I begin my journey with the Kiwanis Family my second year of high school in Key Club. I was part of Grandview High School’s Key Club, Division 50, and alongside my friends, some of my most cherished memories are with Key Club. On September 2013, I became part of PNW Circle K and PNW Circle K became part of me. I first started as a member, I remember being very shy and quiet, I was not a good public speaker, much less a leader. As time went on and met some of the most influential people in my life, I decided to run for Treasurer for WWU Circle K and my leadership journey began there. I was a club leader for three years and then decided that I wanted to be part of PNW Circle K even more. In 2016, I applied for the position of District Convention Chair and was given the opportunity to work with Kathy Le. Since then I have been part of the PNW Circle K’s District Board.

What I am the most excited about? I am the most excited to be able to travel and attend your events! I want to see you and your club having fun and doing service! I am excited to meet you! So, please, visit our website and invite me to your events! I really want to be there. I want to be able to have one-on-ones with you and be a resource alongside with your District Board. We want to see you grow and accomplish your goals of service, leadership, and fellowship. I look forward to meeting you! Live to Serve, Love to Serve. Thank you, Esmeralda Hernández District Governor Pacific Northwest Circle K International Hernane5@wwu.edu http://www.pnw-cki.org/

WESTERN WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY: Relay for Life Chances are, you probably have known or encountered someone who had, or has cancer. Maybe it’s someone you know, or maybe even close friends. To help fund cancer research, the Circle K Club in Western Washington University, participated in Relay for Life on May 19. Relay for Life is a 24 hour fundraising event, our group walked along Western’s track for 24 hours. Walking for 24 hours is meant to symbolize that cancer never sleeps. This year we had such a great turn out with many members of our club participating in the walk to raise money. I’m proud to say that our club raised $1,067 for cancer research! Walking around the tracks with all my club members was really special and it’s so amazing that we were able to raise $1,000 for cancer research. I look forward to the day where cancer is eliminated but until then, we will keep fighting to end it. - JULIANNA SMITH, VP OF SERVICE, WWU
