Concept The editorial is built on an interpretation in Hitchcock’s piece Vertigo from 1958. The concept developed and explored in this editorial is an extension of CWK1 where the theme of split identity was investigated. Therefore, the core of this editorial is to highlight the theme of diverse personalities while maintaining the same appearance. This is clearly linked to the movie where the main character Madeleine and Judy is facing a personality crisis attempting to decide whether to be the ideal woman that is desired by the other protagonist Scottie or to be herself or to stay true to herself. The multifaced identity in this editorial visualised by the casting of the models that are twins. These identical twins at the first sight appear aesthetically identical but on a close

look, it is discovered that the twins are individual that is not necessarily the same person. It is desired to communicate that the girls are interlinked and the ideal beauty that is innocent, girly and pure while having a mystical unexplainable glimpse in the eye that enables the audience to connect the dots and leave the questions of the story unanswered by leaving it to the fantasy. Flowers are a key symbol in Vertigo as mentioned in CWK2 which is why this component is the main focus in the editorial. The concept is further based on the use of flowers that symbolizes the ideal beauty that comes in different formats and colours. Each flower is beautiful in its own way but is aesthetically not similar only in the monochromatic

colour scheme of red with a hint of Rosa. The flower types range from traditional red roses that stand for love, passion and desire mixed with unconventional flowers being unique in its own way as the chilis in bright orange, the white Dianthus, baby’s breaths, the pink Gerberas all having different “personalities” and meanings , but all come together as a beautiful sight and a perfect symbol of that beauty comes in different formats and have different personalities, not just one. Furthermore, fake roses are mixed into the background as it is desired to the contrasting reality against illusions as a main theme in the original movie Vertigo. The girls are portrayed in a mystical way and catching the audience’s attention by the look unpredictable look in the eyes. It is desired to create a plot that is open to interpretation and give the audience a feeling of uncertainty and illusion that leaves the editorial up to the imagination and personal interpretation. The colour scheme of the setting is kept in a strong red colours with hints of green from the leaves in order to link the colour palette to the characteristic colours in Vertigo and to emphasize on the strong colour of red that also symbolizes love, passion and mystery opposed to the girls dressed as pure ”angels” dressed in contrasting the background of flowers to the girls. Furthermore, On the cover, one of the twins is selected to be portrayed with a white rose. The white roses between all this red ocean of emotion symbolize innocence and purity where the look in the eye symbolizes the mystery and unexplainable behind the picture leaving it up to the imagination. The title is ”Una Su Un Milione di Fiori” which means ”One in a million flowers” the essence of the editorial, to highlight the uniqueness and beauty of individuality.

Vogue Italia The editorial is alethically suited for Vogue with the rather elegant and yet feminine styling and a concept where the traditional beauty is shown. The target audience of Vogue Italia is a traditional woman with a passion for fashion, style and beauty ranging and targeting broadly various age groups from the early teens to the late 50s. Therefore, it is key to respect the visual language of the magazine, which this editorial does by using two commercial models and the aesthetics around the editorial. However, as it is Vogue Italy Vogue Italia has previously been famous for playing with controversial and boundary-pushing images, which is why the touch of mystery and leaving the reader to imagine the story is added to the editorial. (Bauck, 2017) Furthermore, it can be argued that the reader is identifying with them and desires to be persuaded as a unique individual, whereas the title works as attracting people to the magazine. Vogue Italia is known for its play with colours and fonts, which is why the cover plays with fonts in different colours. (Armstrong, 2017) Furthermore, Vogue Italia is known for having a simple cover with only the title on the cover without further promotions.

Setting & Photography The concept is constructed in a home studio where flowers were brought in and made into a wall. The photography focuses on combining Close-ups (CU) and Medium shot (MS) in order to focus on the identical facial features. The images are highly focused on the composition of the two girls to create balance, peace and harmony in the pictures while leaving the mysterious in the expression rather than in the photographing techniques. The shooting plan is attached in the annex without the personal visual references used for the shoot.

Styling

Figure 24: Girls holding, L’Officiel Brasil, 2015

The styling was decided to be focused on monochromatic white and rose colours that contrast the flower wall. On the wall several flowers branch out in white or rosa colours, therefore the styling is matched to fit with this background and create harmony in the pictures. The idea behind the editorial was to create two different personalities as mentioned above, which is underlined through the clothing. The twins are wearing the same colours in order to link them together, however, the twins are wearing different styles to show the different personalities. Mainly texture and colour are what are the main components of this styling. The styling is aimed to subtly indicate the differences between the models The styling is however matched to the selected publication Vogue and is therefore focused on elegance, sophistication and feminine by the use of lace, ruffles, ribbons and accessories. Furthermore, jewellery is subtly used to give an edge to the feminine and elegant outfits. However, accessories are excluded from this editorial as it is desired to maintain a minimal and elegant styling in order to highlight the facial features. All clothing for this editorial is selected from stylists own and acquaintances wardrobe.
