SERVING THE HEALTH CARE COMMUNITY The Michener Institute for Applied Health Sciences incorporates a variety of facilities and services to effectively meet the education needs of the health care community. Located in the heart of Toronto’s hospital district, Michener can facilitate any event from large symposia to focused simulation sessions. On the 3rd and 4th floors, the CAE/Michener Centre for the Advancement of Simulation and Education (CASE) is a state-of-the-art, multi-modality simulation centre. With 20,000 square feet of simulation space and integrated AV, CASE is ideally situated to address your simulation needs, ranging from complex team training to high-stakes assessment of clinical skills. In addition, Michener is able to offer a number of fully equipped discipline specific laboratories that can be utilized to simulate a wide variety of medical procedures. Along with an auditorium that can host up to 300 people, full catering on-site and close proximity to the St. Patrick Subway, Michener is an all-in-one solution for training and assessment.

CASE OBJECTIVE STRUCTURED CLINICAL EXAMINATION (OSCE) SUITES CASE features 24 OSCE suites for testing and assessment. Highlights

OSCE suites located on the 3rd floor, have front hallway access for candidates and rear hallway access for examiners

Several rooms offer built in recording equipment configured to the CAE LearningSpace® recording and debriefing system, as well as portable AV equipment available for custom scenarios

Examiner corridors behind OSCE suites have one-way glass and control panels for viewing and monitoring

FLEXIBLE SIMULATION STUDIOS The 4th floor provides a variety of simulation facilities and environments to enable the education and assessment of health professions using collaborative patient-centered practice scenarios. Highlights

Simulation studios: flexible spaces that can be set up to simulate patient rooms, triage units, operating rooms, etc.

Fully integrated recording equipment configured to the CAE LearningSpace® recording and debriefing system
•
Staging studio: rooms with sliding partitions to double, triple or quadruple size and allow for multiple scenarios
•
Control rooms > Elevated and features one-way glass for scenario monitoring > Two-way communication between control rooms and simulation rooms > Infrastructure available to control mannequins and AV recording

Debrief, multi-purpose and breakout rooms with infrastructure to support viewing and debriefing with previously recorded AV via CAE LearningSpace®

MEETING SPACES Both the 3rd and 4th floors of CASE have a multifunctional reception area. Select rooms on the 4th floor may also serve as meeting spaces for various functions and conveniently set-up to accomodate your AV requirements.

Treatment Delivery Simulaton > 2 Elekta Synergy linear accelerators > Custom designed linacs with a computer simulated MV treatment beam and a live kV arm for real 2D and CBCT imaging (one unit is also equipped with Elekta’s Clarity™ soft tissue visualization ultrasound device) > Both units are equipped with MLCs and can simulate both conventional and IMRT/VMAT techniques > Accessory items include a range of Elekta positioning and immobilization devices, as well as two custom designed radiography anthropomorphic phantoms with embedded lymphatic chains > MOSIAQ® (Elekta’s Oncology Information System) is available on both units and may also be accessed on any workstation throughout Michener
