Spring Fling brings sun and fun KATELYN WAARA News Editor Each year, students across campus celebrate Spring Fling as a way to wind down before finals and to finish up their busy school year. Planned for the Friday of the thirteenth week of every spring semester, this year’s Spring Fling was Luau-themed, complete with an authentic pig roast! Sponsored by Michigan Tech Student Activities and the MUB Board, Spring Fling offered a menagerie of events for students to experience right on campus. A motorcycle show, live music and games with cool prizes were only some of the events within Spring Fling that students were able to take part in last Friday. Fraternities gave away tacos, sorority sisters painted faces and many tables offered candy to the supporters. Counseling and Wellness Services gave away t-shirts if you answered one of their trivia questions about ways of keeping healthy at Michigan Tech

and MUB Board members provided students with the proper Luau attire: colorful, complimentary leis! Student and community organizations were invited to set up tables to represent themselves during the festivities. Saagar Vijay, President of the Indian Student Association (ISA), and his fellow members brought Indian culture to Spring Fling by serving two traditional Indian dishes as well as demonstrating the skills required to play the game of cricket, a bat-andball game. Students were able to step up and take a crack at the sport outside of the MUB near the MEEM. Overall, Vijay said the day went well; ISA was even at risk of running out of food long before Spring Fling was scheduled to end! Near the cricket game and spicy Indian food was Michigan Tech’s new Co-Ed Competitive Cheer team. The 10 women and four men demonstrated their stunts and back handspring skills to the campus community. Last month, the team competed in their
