Keeping track with Husky DINE Dining Services to release nutrition facts, recipes in online wellness program JANE KIRBY Lode Writer Changes across campus will always be seen with a new semester, one of which will affect nearly all students on campus who are interested in keeping track of their eating habits. Dining Services has introduced a new online wellness program called Husky DINE (Dig Into Nutrition Everyday) to help students and staff members keep track of their nutritional intake, as well as their exercise and overall health. Wellness programs like Husky DINE are becoming a trend among universities across the country, said Kathy Wardynski, manager of purchasing and process improvement in Dining Services. and staying healthy, Tech recently acquired it for staff and faculty. Soon, the service will also be available for students. Husky DINE is an online program that allows users to create free accounts through SparkPeople.com (http:// www.sparkpeople.com) in order to keep track of their nutritional intake, physical activity, as well as look up recipes, search for exercise ideas and get general health information based on each users’ gender, age, weight and health goals. Wardynski said it’s a great tool to increase one’s level of knowledge about personal health involving nutrition and exercise. After months of hard work, Dining Services has added all of the recipes and nutritional information for each food item and meal available in the dining halls to Husky DINE’s database. This way, Tech users can

accurately record exactly what they eat on a daily basis while on campus. In addition, it also offers nutritional information for

fast food restaurants like Taco Bell, McDonalds and Culvers, as well as the option to enter your own recipes if you cook for yourself.

This way, students, staff and faculty can use Husky DINE even when they’re off campus. Continued on page 5
