Army ROTC Cadets put to the test Cadets participate in strenuous training exercises out in the Baraga Plains KATELYN WAARA Lode Writer Twice each year, Michigan Tech’s Army ROTC cadets are thrust onto the Baraga Plains to participate in a series of field exercises known as FTX. FTX (field training exercises) took place Friday, Saturday and Sunday, March 31-April 2. Over the course of the weekend, cadets got to experience a number of scenarios, each different from the next. Dressed in full field gear, including LBVs (load bearing vests) and carrying weapons and rucks on their backs, FTX is designed to test not only the cadet’s leadership qualities and their training, but also their mental endurance. Everything the cadets did that weekend, (sleeping, eating and completing the exercises) was outside in the cold winds of the Baraga Plains. Cadets were divided evenly into squads, each containing approximately 10 cadets. From
