Student Org Spotlight: Michigan Tech H4H NICOLE IUTZI Lode Writer What to join a community service organization on campus? Michigan Tech’s student organization Habitat for Humanity works with the local chapter to build homes locally and across the United States. Currently, the organization has 10 active members. The Michigan Tech chapter of Habitat for Humanity, or H4H, works with the local chapters across the US to plan an alternative spring break. Students travel to areas such as Florida, Louisiana, Texas and New Mexico to lend their muscles for a good cause; building a house for a family in need. “Everybody has fun on the trips,” said Michael D’Angelo, a fourth year Chemical Engineering student. Students work over break, but have a day off to explore the area. Not all the houses students help to build are miles away, some are constructed in the local area. Recently, a house was built in L’Anse and, around the time classes started this year, Michigan Tech students would travel the 30 minutes to the site and help wherever it was needed. Michigan Tech H4H also helps with the local chapter’s furniture drive that is held every year. Depending on the building pace, students are able to help with almost every aspect of the house’s construction. In the past, students have helped with “putting up siding for the
