SATURDAY 12 MAY 7.30PM Swansea City Opera presents
Swansea City Opera return with a revival of their hugely successful production of Rossini’s most famous opera - razor-sharp and full of twists and turns. A young Spanish nobleman, Count Almaviva, is in love with the beautiful and rich Rosina, ward of the lecherous Doctor Bartolo, who plans his own marriage to her. Along comes the meddling Figaro, the town barber, and suddenly we have all the ingredients for confusion and mayhem. From Figaro’s famous entrance aria ‘Largo al factotum’ to the frenzy of the Act I finale, The Barber of Seville makes for a rollicking evening’s entertainment. Swansea City Opera is known across the UK for its high quality and engaging performances of comic opera and this sparkling performance will be no exception. Sung in English, and accompanied by the Swansea City Opera orchestra, the production is set in period Seville, with outrageous 18th century costumes that complement the fizz and flare of Rossini’s musical genius. It is perfect both for the established operagoer, and for those who have never seen opera before. Don’t miss this ultimate feel-good opera that is always cheerful and fun. As with previous visits by Swansea City Opera, chorus will again be provided by members of Tees Valley Gilbert and Sullivan Society.

One pub. Fourteen characters. Two actors. From the award-winning writer of Little Voice and Road comes this acclaimed two-hander, a gritty yet heart-warming look at life in a Northern local in the 1980s, filled with pathos and humour. Let the Landlord and Landlady introduce you to all the punters and regulars from early doors until closing time as well as uncovering their own tragic secret. Their cheery greeting and friendly banter barely disguise their contempt for each other. They met outside the pub when they were kids, had their first drink there, courted there, had their Twenty Firsts there, Wedding Reception there, and now they own the place. All life is present in this pub, where people celebrate and mourn in an unflinching mixture of tragedy and comedy. During the course of the evening assorted customers pass through the doors, including a little boy left by his father, an event that triggers a move towards a fragile reconciliation between the pub couple as their secret tragedy, swallowed back for seven years, comes to a head after drinking - up time. £15.50.
