tips and tricks for corporate

Zoom is one of the most popular videoconferencing tools but many people still aren’t making the most of all of its features. If you are a regular Zoom user, keep reading for some useful tips and tricks to help personalise and professionalise your calls.

Integrate Zoom into Slack

Streamline your comms by connecting Zoom to Slack. Slack allows you to kickstart videos, whether starting a meeting or calling someone directly. To easily begin a call via Zoom, type ‘/zoom’ into your Slack channel or group message. This will prompt Zoom, notifying all the participants of a new meeting.

Display participant names on video

It happens to us all, but it can be embarrassing if you don’t recognise someone or forget their name! Especially when you’re on an important call such as a job interview or when talking to a client. It can also take a while to familiarise yourself with big teams, especially in the age of remote working where you don’t see faces on a daily basis.

Zoom offers the solution by always displaying the name of call participants, helping to match a face to a name so that there’s no risk of making a mistake. This feature might come already pre-set on your Zoom account but to make sure it’s there, go to Settings > Video > Meetings > tick ‘Always display participant name on their videos’.

Adding your pronouns to Zoom

Respect, inclusivity and diversity are core values that most companies are working towards globally. Sometimes, these values can be demonstrated in the simplest of ways, such as adding and sharing pronouns. This feature has been available on LinkedIn for the past few years: it was noted that 70% of job seekers believe it’s important that recruiters and hiring managers know their gender pronouns, and 72% of hiring managers agree. Zoom now supports this shift, allowing users to share pronouns on their profile card. People can choose when this information is shared with others.

To add your pronouns, follow the path on Zoom: Profile > Edit > Pronouns. Once added, your pronouns will always be visible on the profile card, but it is possible to adjust when to share your pronouns, (Options: ‘Always share in meetings and webinars’; ‘Ask me every time after joining meetings and webinars’; ‘Do not share in meetings and webinars’).

Simplify your working day with Zoom. Using these features lets you and your team and enjoy seamless collaboration and communication both at the office and remotely.
