The Hotel Business School of Galicia is an university college for hotel managers, head chefs and tourism professionals in Santiago de Compostela, Spain. It has a 50.000 square meter campus with 2 restaurants, a hotel school, practical classrooms, student residence and sport grounds, all surrounded by large green areas.

Located in the North West corner of Spain, Santiago de Compostela is a World Heritage City, pilgrimage destination, cultural capital and example of historical, urban and environmental regeneration, which attracts thousands of visitors due to its singularity. The city also has a deep-rooted university tradition, which supplies innovative business initiatives with technological and scientific resources.In the summer the city fills up with a huge contingent of international pilgrims and tourists, and during college term reaches a student population of up to 40, 000. There’s a great entertainment and nightlife scene to tap into at the end of a day investigating the city’s history and culture. It has an international airport with direct flights to the major European capitals.

theprogramme The programme runs approximately for 10 days and during this time the student will attend a module for Spanish lessons together with one of his choice related to: tourism, hospitality, gastronomy or cooking. This will take place in the morning till lunch, with free afternoons. Day-trips and half day excursions take place throughout the programme and other outdoor activities. 5

spanishlanguagemodule With this module we aim to increase the confidence of all of our students to communicate comfortably in Spanish with particular emphasis on tourism and hospitality environments and to assist to a quicker development of their ongoing language learning once they return back home. The key areas of development are: speaking, listening and writing, mixing grammar and vocabulary with practical lessons in our language labs. The students will do their practical work in activities related to tourism, such as: producing a tourist brochure, dealing with complaints, job interviews, tourism documentaries among others. 8

Spanish tourism market structure. Hotel team work, how to. Hotel management in a historical city. Marketing for hotels and restaurants. New Technologies applied to Hospitality. Charming hotels: The Spanish case of Paradores. MODULE B tourism

History of tourism in Spain. Rural tourism and its complementary services. Nautical and water sports tourism. Management of Tourism in Spain; internationally and locally. Health Tourism and Spas in Galicia. The Road of Santiago as a tourism product. Wine tourism: Wine routes.

MODULE C gastronomy

A tour of Spanish cuisine, from the Atlantic to the Mediterranean coast. Culture and wine Tasting : Wines of Spain. Cooking workshop: Spanish Tapas. Culture and wine tasting: Wines of Galicia. Cooking workshop: cocktails and appetizers. Chocolate and desserts workshop. Developing a tasting menu. MODULE D hands

Taste and enjoy one of the Spanish culinary specialties: the tapas, throughout a food “safari” in the old quarter of Santiago de Compostela, ending with a magical evening around a firing beverage that will put away all those bad spells.

The student accommodation at the Hotel Business School of Galicia is split across several boarding houses, with separate areas for boys and girls. Each boarding house has a communal area for the students to relax after a busy day in class and taking part in the activities programme. The accommodation has single and double rooms, all with en-suit bathroom. Student´s meals are provided in the fantastic Buffet Restaurant. The hall is spacious and bright, with views across the playing field and tennis courts. At lunch there are always two hot choices, including a vegetarian option, salad bar, fresh bread, fruit and deserts. So there is always something to suit everyone!

Admission and entry requirements

The course is open to all students who can demonstrate an intermediate level of Spanish language with a minimum age of 17 years old and with no specific academic requirements but ideally should have some interest in hospitality, tourism and cooking. The minimum number of students is 10 and the maximum is 25 per programme. The student may do an online Spanish assessment test to determine the most suitable level for attending the programme. There are two levels: E1: Intermediate E2: Upper intermediate Alternatively we can provide a test via email and provide the assessment level.

This includes all fees all tuition, accommodation in double room (half board), teaching materials, use of the school facilities, medical and accident insurance, all day trips and excursions. Duration of the course is 12 days. In case you would like to extend your stay in the residence, a 50 EUR per day charge will apply. Single rooms are available at a 300 EUR supplementary charge. Please check via email for students with special needs.

Transport, transfers and visas

Student travel to and from Spain must be paid and arranged independently; also the students must ensure that they apply in sufficiently good time for the appropriate visa if is required to enter the country. Transfers from and to Santiago de Compostela airport will be provided the arrival and leaving dates.
