ACO LightShaft ACCESSORIES - FOR ALL ACO LIGHTSHAFTS

ACO LightShaft Raincovers

Stainless Steel Trim

ACO LightShafts raincovers are made from tempered safety glass and include a full fitting kit. The wall-facing edge has a flexible seal to ensure watertightness.

The aesthetic appeal of the ACO LightShaft can be further enhanced with a stainless steel trim, available for all sizes of LightShaft. The simple clip on edging also protects the top edges from vehicle tyre marks.

Protects against dirt, leaves and rain

Ensures the LightShaft stays clean for maximum light transmission

Does not reduce light transmission or airflow

A grating must be fitted to raincoverequipped LightShafts for safety

ACO LightShaft

INSTALLATION - NON-WATERTIGHT

ACO LightShaft installation for pedestrian and light vehicle traffic 1. Insert the grating into the LightShaft body and secure using the chain and clip assembly. Secure the grating fastener in the lateral slots when using an expanded metal grating, and in the mesh when using a mesh grating.

6. Backfill in layers with excavated material and compact down.

7. Ensure heavy plant is kept at a safe distance from the LightShaft installation to prevent damage.

a a

2. Mark the level of the upper edge of the light shaft at ground level. If using the ACO Spirit Level, the upper edge of the assembly aid represents the upper edge of the LightShaft. The distance from the lower edge of the window to the base of the light shaft should be at least 150mm.

5. Position the plugs, then install and tighten screws.

4. Drill out and clean fixing holes.

Extension Piece Installation 1. First install LightShaft main body.

2. Insert the LightShaft grating into the extension piece.

90-300mm installed height

3. Mark the 4 holes against the wall. The upper holes will lie 60mm below the upper edge of the light shaft.

3. Place the required number of extension pieces onto the LightShaft.

4. Drill out attachment holes.

5. Insert securing screws and tighten.

6. Backfill in layers with excavated material and compact down.

10

7. Ensure heavy plant is kept at a distance from the LightShaft installation to prevent damage.

ACO LightShaft INSTALLATION - WATERTIGHT, WHITE WALLS

Overview Thanks to its extremely strong design, regularly spaced securing points, robust polypropylene body and integral sealant groove, it is simple to have a watertight connection to externally tanked basement walls.

In addition, a heavy-duty stainless steel clamping set is available to spread the bolting pressure across the entire facing edge of the LightShaft, making it essential for watertight installations. ACO also supplies Profix, the ideal sealant for this type of installation, guaranteeing the watertightness of

your LightShaft installation.

ACO Profix: Single-pack sealant This should be applied to the sealant groove in the LightShaft edges to give a watertight seal on externally tanked walls. Approximately 2 tubes will be required for an average LightShaft.

Bitumen-sealed wall installations Where an ACO LightShaft is installed on an externally bituminous-sealed wall, a compatible sealing compound must be used, as ACO Profix is not suitable. For an installation to this kind of wall, please refer to the instructions on page 14.

Ensure the outer wall surface is clean and dry

Ensure all traces of grease or oil are removed from the LightShaft mating face

Only install ACO LightShafts between +5 and +40째C to eliminate thermal stresses

Ensure the LightShaft is located centrally in relation to the basement window

Clean loose debris from the wall with a stiff brush

Remove traces of oil with a steam cleaner or solvent

If the wall surface is porous, apply an epoxy primer to the area where the LightShaft mating surface will touch

Remove any loose pieces of wall surface, and repair defects or pitting with an epoxy repair kit and allow to cure.

ACO LightShaft INSTALLATION - WATERTIGHT, WHITE WALLS

Procedure 1. Attach the grating to the LightShaft body using the clips and chains provided. 2. Mark the two upper securing holes of the light shaft at ground level. If using the ACO Spirit Level, the upper edge of the assembly aid represents the upper edge of the light shaft. The distance from the lower edge of the window to the base of the light shaft should be at least 150 mm. 3. Drill out the top two holes to a depth of 70mm. Take care not to drill further. 4. Blow out dust from holes. 5. Knock in the top two expanding anchor bolt. 6. Temporarily hang the LightShaft from the top two anchor bolts and mark out the other drilling points. Remove the LightShaft and drill out the marked holes to a depth of 70mm, as close to 90째 to the wall as possible. Clean the holes out and knock in the expanding anchor bolts. Clean the wall with a stiff brush. 7. Key the mating surface of the LightShaft flange with a sanding block or wire brush. 8. Clean the mating surface of the LightShaft flange with a cloth and acetone or similar solvent.

11. Fit the two lower clamping rails and screw securing nuts on finger-tight. Then evenly tighten down all nuts so that the sealant is forced out of the joint. If possible, use a torque wrench and tighten to 30Nm (23 lb.ft.). 12. Leave the sealant to cure for 72 hours. ACO Profix cures on contact with oxygen and is accelerated by high humidity. If required, attach the drainage pipework to the water outlet. Backfill the pit around the LightShaft and compact down in stages.

Auxiliary Clamping System (Optional) If bolting through preformed holes in the LightShaft body is not possible, due to weak masonry or to avoid cabling, you can use an auxiliary clamp up to 55mm from the original hole. Fill the failed hole with ACO Profix to prevent seepage, and drill a new hole alongside the LightShaft body to attach the auxiliary clamp, ideally at the same height. Ensure that bolts are used at every bolting point, whether through a fixing hole or alongside. NB: Extension pieces are not watertight, so where possible, use a taller LightShaft assembly.

9. Apply a thick bead of ACO Profix to the flange groove, ensuring it adheres cleanly. 10. Lower the LightShaft assembly onto the bottom right anchor bolt, and then press into the wall ensuring all bolts pass through the holes. Attach the two vertical clamping rails and hold in place by screwing the nuts down finger-tight.

13

ACO LightShaft INSTALLATION - WATERTIGHT BITUMINOUS WALLS

Procedure Installation is similar to that for white walls, but with the following differences: 1. Ensure the black coating on the basement wall is sufficiently thick and in good order, and sufficiently flat. 2. Do not use ACO Profix for sealing the LightShaft body to the wall. Choose a sealant compatible with the wall coating and coat the mating surface of the LightShaft thickly. NB: When attaching ACO Allround 400mm LightShafts to externally-tanked bituminous walls, use fixing kit 35599.

Drainage connection - black or white walls If using a drain in this application, use part number 00331, as this is fitted with a watertight seal to prevent leakage into the LightShaft from surrounding groundwater. This should be hand tightened (1Nm). If drainage is not necessary, two types of stainless steel stopper are available: 1. First-Fit stopper (35583), which can be fitted before or during installation.

2. Retrofit stopper (35665), suitable for fitting after installation or to replace an existing outlet.

NB. Plugs or Drains for watertight installations must be tightened from the inside of the LightShaft to eliminate the risk of damage to the seal.
