MASSING PROCESS

The first step in this apartment mass study is to do zoning vertically. The zone is divided into three main zones. The ground floor will be used as commercial area, 1st floor will be facility area and from 2nd to 14th will be residential area with the core in the middle of the building.

Then, to create an outdoor public space for the facility area on the 1st floor, the residential mass is splitted into two different directions with the core as their connection. This will create two area on 1st floor which can be used as a facility area for different activities.

GROUND FLOOR

This is the original silhoutte of Rumah Tengger from East Java that used as an idea for the facade study.

The is transformed by streching the roof higher than the original to create a modern form but still maintain the original style.

The roof structure also streched to the ground floor to make it as a main structure. Then, the facade is also added with East Java traditional pattern to create strong local expression.

The landscape design try to adapt the existing condition while creating a new atmosphere. The main important thing that needs to protect is the mango’s tree that already exist since the beginning. That leads the idea to create a space where human and nature can coexist in harmony in an environment. To make it more natural, the terrace is added with hanging plants and bush to make people more comfortable while using this space.

EXISTING CONDITION

The existing condition for dormitory information desk were located on the left of the room. This is actually not a strategic area to place the information desk and the logo of Balai Diklat Keuangan because it takes times for people to realize the location of infomation desk and the logo doesn’t really eye catching. So we decided to re-layout the lobby and make this area to be the lounge of this dorm.

EXISTING CONDITION

The information desk will be placed on the other side where previously used to be the lounge of this dorm. This change seems more fresh and make people easier deciding their orientation when they entered this lobby.
