INTERACTION an interactive museum by : mikinna mcgerr

intention and trends

The design intention is to provide a space that is both interactive and focused on the user experience, experience because current museum culture is lacking individual input and noninclusive to a majority of users. The idea is to increase opportunities for personal preference from users, providing moments of feedback and collaboration. In other words, the user becomes an integral part of the museum itself, itself enhancing the space through their actions. Strategies to achieve this include blurring the lines between the interior and exterior and integrating design at a human scale throughout the user’s interaction with the art, the museum, and themselves in order to further and encourage their experience.

project statement and trends

user-experience. The target audience is unknown, as the experience is based on the individual The project is intended to be a museum that is created and based on enhanced user-experience that comes through the museum. By addressing the typical tensions within a museum, it can become a space that is informed by the users themselves rather than designed and intended for a specific group or for specific works of art. Interior design is poised to address this problem because it is inherently user driven and human based. Flexibility and variety have become important parts of designing in the current time period, however, this space will be incorporating interaction with the user as well as these terms. The focus is on the experience and how that can be emphasized using flexibility and variety. The project concept thus becomes: interaction throughout every part of the experience. This will allow for an individual journey for each user in the museum.

current issues

TECHNOLOGY INTEGRATION “Mass Mass personalization requires lots of data, which is a challenge for museums individually and collectively... Many museums are just beginning to collect even basic data on how individual users interact with the organization.” “Thus our focus is not on the technology per se, but on the way the technology may enhance the user experience.” experience

DIVERSIFICATION OF USERS “They’ve begun catering less to the already artistically-inclined and more to the masses of people eager to learn about art and cultures they’ve never encountered.”

DIVERSIFACTION OF EXHIBITS “But as communities surrounding or visiting museums become more divers in culture, experiemce and interests, museums need to offer a range (in type and depth) of experiences to fit the interests of those most likely to visit.” innovation “Environments that provide opportunities for direct creation or production, take-away experiences, interactive experiences, and innovation.”
