Welcome to the August edition of the Get Up and Go and another month of great events with 100 FSS! We’ve got things to do every week culminating with the Hardstand Fitness Center’s annual Half Marathon on 26 August. A chance to put your training to the test! We up the ante with the Mega Bingo at the Galaxy Club on Friday 12 August with a record $2000 in cash prizes! Don’t miss out on the chance to win! Looking for a new career? Attend the 100 FSS recruitment fair on 19 August at the Galaxy Club parking lot. We’ll have the food truck rally in attendance too. Bring your CV, buy a burger and leave with a new job! To mark National Dog Day on 26 August, 100 FSS is holding the Cutest Dog Photo Contest (see page 13) – simply submit your dog’s picture to the Bob Hope Community Center’s Facebook page from 22-25 August and the cutest dog wins a ‘pawsome’ $15 gift card! There’s great events for kids – fend off the zombie apocalypse at Youth Programs’ Zombie Escape on 19 August. Teams of 9 to 13 year olds seek to survive the zombie horde and blast them with Nerf guns at the Heritage Park (page 36). The Library has a full program of events to keep your little ones entertained during the summer break. And don’t forget the Library’s Summer Reading Program closing party on 12 August 1 pm - 3 pm (see pages 28 - 29). Challenge yourself to reach your personal best with 100 FSS.

RAFM Fire Dept shows off new crash truck capabilities to 100th CES honorary commander

uring a visit to the 100th Civil Engineer Squadron Fire Department, Henry Griffin, Suffolk Fire and Rescue area manager, and 100th CES honorary commander, sees first-hand the station’s new P-19 Panther aircraft rescue and firefighting crash truck capabilities during a live fire demonstration at Royal Air Force Mildenhall, England, July 13, 2022. Christmas In July Toy Drive
The First Sergeant Council from Royal Air Force Mildenhall, England, visit Beck Row Pre-School for a “Christmas in July” toy drive, July 6, 2022. The First Sergeant Council fundraises and donates through the Angel Tree Project to the local community twice a year, providing toys, clothes and books to children in need.

Tale of courage as enemy attack causes 100th BG pilot to become POW at Stalag Luft III
This is the second in a two-part series on retired Capt. Robert "Bob" Wolff, veteran of the 100th Bomb Group and World War II survivor. In case you missed it, look out for Part One, which tells the story of Wolff joining the U.S. Army Air Forces, and his journey to Thorpe Abbotts, England, from where he flew bombing missions over Germany from 1942 to 1943. During a video interview May 23, 2022, he shared more of his story about life as a prisoner-of-war at Stalag Luft III.
